The drill is scheduled for 2-5 p.m. Monday at Blue Beacon, 500 Graves Boulevard.&nbsp; The Blue Beacon facility will be evacuated and there will be heavy vehicle traffic in the area during this time.

The scenario will provide a simulated emergency situation and allow law enforcement and employees to react to the situation. During this training, people acting as victims will be placed strategically around the building with cards stating the nature of their injuries. Emergency responders will be expected to tend to their conditions appropriately.&nbsp;

"Blue Beacon is excited to partner with local law enforcement, the 911 dispatchers, and Salina Regional Health Center to put together a drill for how to handle a dangerous intruder in the workplace," said Pat Sullivan, Blue Beacon vice president of human resources. "Although we hope it will never happen to us, we would rather be prepared, and we believe this drill will do just that for our employees and other participants."

Blue Beacon uses a high-pitched audible alarm for emergency situations that will be tested during the drill. If you live or work in the area of 500 Graves Boulevard, do not be alarmed if you hear this alarm on Monday afternoon. The alarm may sound multiple times on this day during the drill and the public will also see an increased police presence in the area.

ELLSWORTH COUNTY—Seven people were injured in an accident just after noon Sunday in Ellsworth County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2015 Infiniti QX60 driven by Kayla D. Timms, 34, Ellsworth, was southbound on Kansas Highway 141. 

The driver failed to stop at stop sign at the Kansas Highway 4 junction and struck a westbound 2002 GMC Sierra 1500 driven by Tucker T.&nbsp;Loesch, 15, Hoisington.

Commissioners also are scheduled to consider naming the stage at the corner of N. Santa Fe Avenue and W. Ash Street. Salina Arts &amp; Humanities forwarded to the commissioners a proposal to name the stage "City Lights Stage." 

According to Arts &amp; Humanities, the word "city" refers to the stage being a project of the City of Salina rather than an organization or business. The word "lights" is a "literal translation of the LED lighting on the street-facing elements of the stage and the predominance of lighting as a defining element in the downtown redesign. It can also be figurative for the stage highlighting community. The daytime elements of light and shadow created by the stage roof skylights also create interesting patterns when the LEDs are not in use. Finally, the recently completed mural has visual elements that reference day and night perspectives of people interacting with a city map," Arts &amp; Humanities noted in the naming request.

The proposed name also has the blessing of Salina Downtown, Inc. In her letter of support, Leslie Bishop, Salina Downtown, Inc. executive director, wrote "Salina Downtown Inc. also likes this proposed name for the stage because of how nicely it ties with the 'Love Salina' campaign tag line 'Small Town Love ~ Big City Lights.'"

ABILENE - The Dickinson County Register of Deeds office will begin accepting electronic documents before the end of October, according to Register of Deeds Rose Johns.

E-filing will be available to professional document preparers submitting deeds, releases, liens, mortgages and other real estate documents.

E-filing significantly improves efficiency and reduces the length of time needed to physically mail or deliver documents and reduces the amount of paper used for transactions.

“If someone working for a title company or bank in Kansas City wants to send us documents we won’t have to wait several days to get things back and forth in the mail,” Johns explained.

As with all work in the Register’s office, staff still have to examine the documents to ensure signatures are valid, legal descriptions are correct and all other requirements are met.

“We can accept it or reject it and send it back to the company with the reason why it was rejected. Maybe the legal description isn’t correct or they didn’t get the acknowledgement stamped,” Johns said. “We have to be very careful when looking at documents.

“The only difference is we are not typing all this information and running it through the scanner. It skips the manual part of the process,” she added.

Johns said she expects most local title companies will still bring in paper documents, but for people doing transactions who don’t live here it will be a major timesaver.

Professional document preparers using the service are charged various fees based on the service, which they pay using the E-file portal.

Rose said the E-filing system is already offered by the county’s software provider, CIC (Computer Information Concepts), which offers software for nearly every county department, so there’s no startup cost.

McPHERSON –&nbsp;Acclaimed vocalist Vanessa Thomas, known for her seamless span of five octaves, is scheduled to perform at McPherson College as part of the Fern Lingenfelter Artists Series on Nov. 8.

The concert is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in Mingenback Theatre, and is open to the public at no charge.

For more than a decade, Thomas toured nationally with Grammy-award-winning trumpet virtuoso Doc Severinsen. 

She is uniquely versatile with command across several musical genres, including classical, jazz, blues, gospel, and musical theater. 

Recent performances include Robert Ray’s Gospel Mass as the soprano, alto, and tenor soloist at Carnegie Hall and headliner for Lyric Opera and the Lied Center of Kansas in a series of outdoor concerts.

She has performed at the Hollywood Bowl and the Arizona Musicfest; with the Cincinnati Pops, the Florida Orchestra, and part of the Kansas City Symphony’s Christmasfest; and as a soloist with symphony orchestras in Minnesota, Detroit, Dayton, West Virginia, and Utah.

 Thomas appeared in the PBS American Masters documentary “Never Too Late.” Currently, she is producing an album for distribution.

While at McPherson College, Thomas will also teach a masterclass on Nov. 7.

Admission to the Lingenfelter concert is free thanks to a generous commitment to McPherson College honoring Fern Lingenfelter. Her son, Steve Clark, chairman of Clark Investment Group of Wichita, established the fund that supports two annual music performance events with special emphasis on piano. Lingenfelter, an alumna of McPherson College, taught piano in McPherson for many years to both college students on campus and younger students at her studio downtown.

ELLSWORTH - With the arrival of fall,&nbsp; fall themed events are taking place in the Kansas Heartland. 

On Thursday, from 4-7 p.m., the Ellsworth County Economic Development &nbsp;hosts <a href="https://www.facebook.com/events/780739156400189/?active_tab=discussion">"Wild West Fall Fest."</a>&nbsp;

There are more than 15 Ellsworth community organizations and business sponsors who will host fall themed activities and events for the whole family to enjoy.&nbsp;&nbsp;

"We are thrilled to provide an opportunity to showcase our vibrant downtown with so many amazing retailers and activities," said Stacie Schmidt, director of Ellsworth County Economic Development.

Festival attendees are encouraged to park, register, and get a festival map in the lot located at 124 W. Third Street. All registrants will be entered into a drawing for $50.

Festival goers will also be able to meet local artists who created three recently completed murals.

"We are also proud to show off our new community murals and highlight the talented local artists who created them, bringing vitality and excitement to our downtown buildings," said Schmidt.&nbsp;

It's also time to dust off the old cookbook or recipe box and get the pumpkin recipes out, because it's time for a bake-off! Sponsored by the Ellsworth Area Chamber of Commerce, the Fall Fest Pumpkin Bake off will take place at 4 p.m. on Oct. 20.&nbsp;Competition levels include junior level, ages 16 and under, and pro level, ages 17 and up.&nbsp;Businesses can also participate.
