Be aware on the roads as 'Flash Flooding' is likely, according to the US National Weather Service.&nbsp;The highest flooding risk period will occur from late this afternoon through Friday morning.&nbsp;If water begins rising near your location,&nbsp;immediately seek higher ground. 

Saline County Emergency Management states that the main concerns are low water crossings and low-lying areas, where it's difficult to see the shoulder of the road. Drivers should exercise extreme caution, especially in areas known to flood frequently.

Smoky Hill River near New Cambria:&nbsp;Projected crest at 23.59 feet tonight, causing minor flooding. Monitor conditions and be prepared to move to higher ground.

According to the US National Weather Service (Wichita, KS), a round of storms are anticipated for Wednesday evening with the best chances occurring across central Kansas. Reportedly, the strongest storms may produce wind gusts near 60 mph and heavy rainfall.

Salina is depicted to have a 30-60% chance of storms for Wednesday night.

LINCOLN COUNTY &amp; SALINE COUNTY - The US National Weather Service (Wichita, KS) has issued a flash flood warning for northern Lincoln County until late Monday evening.

According to the US National Weather Service (Wichita, KS), north Lincoln County is under a flash flood warning until 11:45 pm. Reportedly, radar is estimating 4 to 6 inches of rainfall across northern Lincoln county between Barnard and Lincoln.&nbsp;The storms are nearly stationary with more heavy rainfall likely.

The US National Weather Service stated this flash flood warning is a "very dangerous flooding situation" and to not drive in flooded areas. They are advising people to report any&nbsp;flooding problems to local officials.

According to the US National Weather Service, northwest Saline County is under a "high risk" of flash flooding,&nbsp;especially near the town of Glendale with slow moving thunderstorms producing 4 to 5 inches of rainfall.

Saline County Emergency Management advises people in the Saline County area to stay home during this flash flood warning. Saline County Emergency Management has stated the following:

Avoid low-lying areas and roads near creeks or ditches.

Keep headlights on and drive slowly if travel is absolutely necessary.&nbsp;

Please do not risk your safety or the safety of emergency responders.

Flash flood warning issued for northern Lincoln County and high risk for northwest Saline County

The US National Weather Service has issued an 'extreme heat warning' for Central Kansas until Wednesday evening.

According to the&nbsp;US National Weather Service, on Saturday, July 19th an 'extreme heat warning' was issued to be in effect from now until Wednesday evening (July 23rd). Heat indices were reported to be as high as 110 degrees, with high's being over 100 degrees. 

It was reported that humidity will also remain in place through this period, which will make it feel even hotter. Chances of showers and storms could occur through the week, with the best chances occurring on Thursday, July 24th.

Work outdoors early or late in the day, and take breaks in the shade as often as possible

Check up on the elderly, sick and those without A/C

According to the US National Weather Service Wichita, KS, the strongest storms will be capable of producing up to '60 mph winds and quarter size hail.

The Saline County Emergency Management team continues to monitor severe weather conditions and the associated flood risks, as the region enters an active weather period today through tonight on Tuesday, June 17th.

According to Saline County Emergency Management, the National Weather Service has placed much of central and south-central Kansas, including Saline County, under a 'moderate risk' for severe storms beginning this afternoon and continuing into early Wednesday morning. 

Residents should expect the potential for:

Wind gusts of 60 to 80 mph, tennis ball-sized hail, a few tornadoes﻿ and heavy rainfall that could result in localized flooding overnight.

Saline County Emergency Management also notes that&nbsp;area rivers and streams are forecast to rise significantly.&nbsp;

Mulberry Creek near Salina: Expected to crest near 26.5 feet, reaching major flood stage.

Smoky Hill River near Mentor: Forecasted crest near 24.2 feet, approaching moderate flood stage.

Smoky Hill River near New Cambria: Projected to crest around 30.3 feet, above moderate flood stage.

River levels are currently well below flood stage but are expected to rise rapidly as rainfall moves through the area. Residents in low-lying areas near rivers, streams and creeks should prepare for possible flooding and monitor conditions closely. Saline County encourages residents to not drive through flooded roadways and to always follow official detours and barricades.

Saline County Emergency Management remains in close coordination with the National Weather Service and regional response partners and will provide additional information as conditions warrant.

Multiple rounds of thunderstorms and heavy rain are expected to take place in southeast Kansas and parts of North Central Kansas.

The National Weather Service has issued a forecast calling for multiple rounds of thunderstorms and heavy rain from Friday, May 23rd through Sunday night, May 25th. Thunderstorms are anticipated to occur periodically throughout Russell, Hutchinson and Salina till 3:00 pm and a second round after 7:00 pm on Friday. Very low chance of thunderstorms to occur for Saturday.

Areas such as Chanute and Coffeyville are on a "flood watch" from Friday till Sunday night. Salina is in the "low rainfall" amount range for this weekend.&nbsp;Although confidence is highest for flooding in southeast Kansas, Saline County residents should still remain alert. The risk of severe storms today and again Sunday night makes early preparation critical.

The National Weather Service recommends people to closely monitor weather alerts and prepare for rapidly changing conditions. Rainfall totals over the next 72 hours could lead to hazardous travel and localized flooding, especially in low-lying areas and intersections with poor drainage.&nbsp;

Severe thunderstorms are expected to occur tomorrow in Salina, according to the National Weather Service.&nbsp;

Throughout the day on Sunday, a 60% chance of showers are likely to occur with a possible thunderstorm, mainly after 4pm. Mostly cloudy skies, with a high near 78 degrees. Furthermore, breezy winds will take place with an east wind of 11 - 20 mph and gusts as high as 29 mph.&nbsp;

Into the night, a 70% of thunderstorms are likely to occur. Mostly cloudy skies with a low of around 64. Southeast wind speeds will kick up to around 15 - 18 mph. Prepare as needed.

SALINA, Kan. — A $500,000 matching gift from the Augustine family is jumpstarting efforts to launch a Boys &amp; Girls Club in Salina, fulfilling a long-awaited vision for expanded youth services in the community.

The donation, made through the Augustine Family Donor Advised Fund at the Greater Salina Community Foundation, honors the legacy of Ted and Almita Augustine and offers a dollar-for-dollar match to support both the new Club’s startup operations and long-term sustainability.

“This matching gift challenge is a game-changer,” said Lance Patterson, CEO of the Boys &amp; Girls Clubs of Hutchinson, which is partnering on the Salina initiative. “It helps us meet the immediate needs to open our doors, while also building the foundation to serve kids for generations to come.”

Every dollar contributed to the endowed “Boys &amp; Girls Club of Salina Fund” by December 31, 2025, will be matched with an equal amount designated for operational support, effectively doubling each donor’s impact. The Club is expected to open by the end of 2025 at Oakdale Elementary School, with plans to offer academic, leadership, wellness, and career-readiness programs. A future facility is planned for the Sunset Park area.

The Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE) announces the participation of sponsoring agencies in the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) for the current program year.

By participating in this program, sponsors will receive federal funds for serving nutritious meals to enrolled participants. The amount of federal reimbursement paid to centers is based on the number of meals served to eligible enrolled participants who qualify for free, reduced-price or paid meals. Day care homes are reimbursed at varying rates, depending on the location of the home and household income of the provider.

KSDE receiving sponsors for Child and Adult Food Care Program

The Kansas Department of Agriculture Division of Animal Health has been notified of two separate events in which horses in Kansas have tested positive for reportable diseases. The agency has responded to both incidents according to the state’s disease response plan.

In mid-July KDA was notified by the National Veterinary Services Laboratory that a horse in Sedgwick County has tested positive for Equine Infectious Anemia (EIA). The facility and all horses on the premises were placed under quarantine until further testing of all exposed horses was completed. Preliminary results indicate that there are additional horses testing positive. EIA is an untreatable disease and response actions are being made accordingly. The remaining horses at the facility that tested negative will be observed and retested in 60 days. The positive symptomatic horse did die from complications associated with EIA.

KDA has identified a prescribed surveillance area within one-quarter mile of the affected premises and is working with local officials and horse owners to identify any other horses that may have been within that surveillance area.

EIA does not affect people, but it can spread to horses, mules and donkeys. The virus can be transmitted from an infected equine to a “clean” equine by biting flies, the use of unsterilized or contaminated medical instruments, or through a blood transfusion. Clinical signs of EIA include fever, anemia and edema; however, affected horses may not show symptoms. EIA can be fatal in horses. All infected horses, including those which are asymptomatic, are carriers of the disease.

There are typically a small number of cases of EIA in the United States every year, although the disease is common in other parts of the world. EIA is controlled in the U.S. by regular testing before traveling across state lines and/or exhibition. The test for EIA is commonly called a Coggins test. This spring, KDA expanded regulations to require a negative Coggins test be completed within the previous 12 months for horses that are changing ownership or are used for exhibition purposes. These regulations are in addition to the previous requirement of a negative Coggins test for horses entering Kansas.

The Kansas Department of Agriculture Division of Animal Health has received notification of a confirmed case of West Nile virus (WNV) in a horse in Harper County.

WNV is a virus that can infect humans, horses, birds and other species. Horses infected with WNV can have symptoms that range from depression, loss of appetite and fever to severe neurologic signs such as incoordination, weakness, inability to rise, and hypersensitivity to touch or sound. WNV can be fatal in horses. If you see symptoms of WNV in your horse, contact your veterinarian immediately.

WNV is a preventable disease, with annual vaccinations that have proven highly effective. The infected animal was not current with its vaccinations, but is responding favorably to treatment. All horse owners should consult with their local veterinarians and make a vaccination plan for their horses.

The virus is carried and transmitted by mosquitoes; although both horses and humans are susceptible, it is not directly contagious from horse to horse or from horse to human. Horse owners should work diligently to reduce the mosquito populations and their possible breeding areas, including removing stagnant water sources and using mosquito repellents. WNV is a reportable disease in Kansas, which means the law requires any confirmed case must be reported to the KDA Division of Animal Health.

BARTON COUNTY —A father and son are facing multiple allegations after a tip led to a traffic stop in Barton County.

On Tuesday, the Barton County Sheriff’s office received information from the Kansas Department of Corrections EAI unit, that a quantity of drugs would be entering Barton County on K-156 Highway sometime during the day, according to Sheriff Brian Bellendir.

The Department of Corrections was able to provide suspect information as well as a vehicle description and tag number. Deputies and detectives were positioned in a number of locations in northeastern Barton County to intercept the vehicle. 

Just after 4 p.m., sheriff’s deputies observed the vehicle enter Barton County. It was known to the Barton County Sheriff's Office that the occupants were wanted for parole violations on a warrant.

A felony traffic stop was conducted and the subjects were removed from the vehicle and taken into custody without incident. The Sheriff’s Office K9 indicated the presence of controlled substances inside the 2008 Ford Taurus. Further investigation revealed a quantity of cocaine, methamphetamine and synthetic cannabinoids. Two handguns were also located in the vehicle.

The occupants of the vehicle were identified as Jerry Wayne Smith, Jr., 43, of Salina, and Christopher Lee Smith, 21,&nbsp; of Abilene. Jerry is Christopher's father, according to Bellendir.

Both were transported to the Barton County Jail where they were booked on requested charges of possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, possession of cocaine, criminal use of a firearm as well as possession of drug paraphernalia. Both had outstanding warrants from the Kansas Department of Corrections for parole violation. The drug charges carry a $100,000 bond. The warrants for parole violation have no bond. The Sheriff’s office was assisted in this operation by detectives from the Great Bend Police Department.

"What's been great working them is that they do not make us feel like we have small marketing budget and they are so great in explaining exactly where we need to place our ads on social media," said Bishop. "They give wonderfully detailed reports about where our market is at and the other nice thing is that they do not ever make me feel like I need to be expert in digital marketing. They are always open to things that we may want to change and they never have an issue with that."

Bishop stated that the Downtown Salina social media presence has grown since they have worked with Cohort.Digital.

"Our statistics have been way above average ever since we started working with them and I think now people are more engaged on social media," said Bishop. "What they do, impacts what we do and everything that we are spending with Cohort just gets enhanced. Kansas based all-women company helping businesses across the nation with digital marketing

The Salina Police Department (SPD) has given Salina Post a full report on the two-vehicle crash that occurred on Friday, July 18th at the intersection of E. Crawford and S. Ohio.

According to SPD, on Friday morning a 2014 Ford pickup driven by 67-year old Stacy Boyd was going southbound on Ohio, and a 2000 Plymouth Voyager driven by 72-year old Dennis Leis was going northbound on Ohio. 

Reportedly, Boyd crashed into Leis after he 'turned left onto Crawford' when Leis was traveling northbound on Ohio. Boyd was cited for a "Failure to Yield" and both vehicles were towed from the scene. 

Both drivers reported of minor complaints of pain, but were not medically transported.

OPENING STATEMENT:&nbsp;“Listen, before we get rolling here, I’ll just share something with you, so the first meeting we had with the defense the other night, I just felt compelled to tell them,&nbsp;‘Don’t ever take this for granted’, it gets hard out here and all of that and I told them, ‘Look, at my age I’m happy to be in the first meeting at training camp, have a job (and) be healthy enough to do it, right?’ But these guys don’t realize how fast it goes by, (and) I’m realizing it now.&nbsp; I could see them all when I was talking to them all night.&nbsp; So, I think they get it. But we’re happy to be here and having some fun out there going against the offense. Not every play was fun but most of them, we did some good things. So, with that, I’ll just open (it) up and let you roll.”

Q: On George Karlaftis and what he has meant to the defense and the team.

SPAGNUOLO:&nbsp;“Yeah, I mean probably the first thing that sticks out with George (Karlaftis) is his character. The one thing that (General Manager) Brett (Veach) and (Head Coach) Andy (Reid) do a great job of is we bring in a lot of great character guys. That’s huge in my opinion, in today’s pro sports because usually when you’re a high character guy you’re unselfish. George has got all of that, and then his ability and his intelligence. I mean, I can remember when (Defensive Line Coach) Joe (Cullen) and I did the Zoom call with George. Because I think he was (in) the COVID-19 draft – you guys remember better than me, but I just remember that that came out in a Zoom interview. All of that, how much he loved football, high character guy (and) how important it was to him. Brett does a great job keeping those guys here.”

Q: Head Coach Andy Reid spoke about urgency; how do you emphasize urgency to the defense?

SPAGNUOLO:&nbsp;“Yeah, so we normally talk about building a foundation. We’re always saying a rock-solid foundation. And listen, I try to – it gets shorter and shorter every year in my opinion, (it) feels like it – the preparation to get ready. We were hopeful, and I think most of the guys did a good job of it, but when they left after OTAs, that had to still be a work time for them. Because when you get here you can’t – in 1983 I was an intern with the Washington [Commanders]. We went to training camp on July 6th&nbsp;(and) we had – it was like 120 rookies for two weeks; there were six preseason games, because there were 14 games then, right? So, you had all this time at training camp to kind of get your body ready. That’s what the vets did. It’s different now. So, the sense of urgency to be ready when we come in and then build it as we’re here is really important, but to us right now it’s all about building the foundational pieces that we need during the season.”

Q: Your thoughts on Tyrann Mathieu retiring?

SPAGNUOLO:&nbsp;“I’m glad you brought that up. You know these young guys with the phones and stuff, it was like they immediately knew, I didn’t know. I just had a – I love – you know how I feel about (Former NFL S) Tyrann (Mathieu). I’m waiting right now to send a text or a phone call because I know he is getting inundated. But I want to probably get him on a day off. Special, special guy, I mean we came here in 2019, Tyrann and I together and he was a key piece to what we were doing, started off a little rough but got better and better. But I love Tyrann Mathieu, I’m really excited for what he – he’ll do something great moving forward. He might end up being the president, who knows? I mean he’s a dynamic guy, but I think he’ll stay somehow in athletics or football, that’s my guess.”

Q:&nbsp;What has Nick Bolton meant to this defense?

SPAGNUOLO:&nbsp;“Yeah, he’s (Nick Bolton) just about everything. He’s Patrick Mahomes for us (the defense), I’ve said this before and were pretty multiple defensively, so if we don’t have that guy it gets really challenging. You know back when we didn’t know we were getting Nick – I had to in my mind, I was preparing, if we don’t have Nick what do we do. It’s just not the same. So, thank God he’s here.”

Q: What did Tyrann Mathieu and Frank Clark bring to the team, and what they brought to defense and how did they help with the championship?

JONES:&nbsp;“You know me and Spags (Defense Coordinator Steve Spagnuolo) had the conversation about T5 (Former NFL S Tyrann Mathieu) yesterday. T5 is like one of his favorite players, and I told Spags ‘You know, you know, I think I’m next in line.’ But he brought a sense of leadership; him and Frank Clark (Former Chiefs DE Frank Clark), a sense of tenacity, that this team was missing to get over that hump to win a ring, and we created a lot of special moments for those guys.”

Q: Kingsley Suamataia and Josh Simmons have a lot of youth and a lot of talent, what are you seeing from them on the offensive line?

JONES:&nbsp;“Great competition, you know? We got a lot of moving parts, the offensive line; a lot of new faces and it is a good competitive battle. Good for us also as D-Line that we can get after. And we (have) got to enjoy this competition. And I think we’ve reiterated this over the years; we have one of the hardest training camps. And I think after this training camp, they’ll be able to evaluate and see who (Kinglsey Suamataia and Josh Simmons) is the best fit for us. But I actually like it because, you know, the change up of the offensive line, you (have) got so many guys that can play (in) so many different places- guard, tackle, that it makes us better on the offensive line. Also challenges us as a defensive line.”

Q: You were joking a little bit with George Karlaftis yesterday, what did it mean for you that the team is taking care of him long term?

JONES:&nbsp;“I mean George (Karlaftis), you watch over the years how he progressed and how his game has grown, and I’m so proud to have my boy back for the next five to six years. And he worked his butt off for it; he didn’t take any shortcuts, didn’t cut any corners, and he’s been all in and the Chiefs did right by him.”
