SALINA—Salina city officials made it official this week, the animal shelter is going private.
City commissioners voted on Monday to establish a one year contract with Prairie Paws Animal Shelter of Manhattan. The $400,000 agreement is for one year with a renewal option for two years.
According to Prairie Paws, they will take over services in the next 8 weeks. The change was prompted after the Salina Animal Shelter's failed inspections earlier this year. Two Salina Animal Shelter staff are facing charges related to the treatment of animals.
