SALINE COUNTY—One person was injured and another arrested following an accident that occurred just after 8:30p.m. Sunday in Saline County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2010 Dodge Ram 1500 driven by Sean S.&nbsp;Schuff, 39, Salina, was&nbsp;northbound on College Avenue turning left onto Spruce Street. The driver failed to yield the right of way to Salina Police Department 2024 Ford Explorer driven by Officer Mathew K.&nbsp;Pfannenstiel, 30, Salina. The SUV collided with the pickup.&nbsp;&nbsp;During the collision, a tire came off the pickup and struck a 2017 Ram 4 driven by Paradise K.&nbsp;Roberts, 30,&nbsp;Snellville, Georgia.

EMS transported Pfannenstiel to Salina Regional Medical Center. The other drivers were not injured. Police arrested Schuff and booked him into the Saline County Jail on requested charges of&nbsp;DUI;1st; incapable of safely driving;child present, according to online jail records.

 All three drivers were properly restrained, according to the KHP.&nbsp; Pfannenstiel joined the Salina police department in October 2025, according to the department's social media page.

Named in honor of former Library Director Joe McKenzie, who retired in 2017 after 40 years of dedicated service, the scholarships recognize high school seniors who have volunteered in the library’s Youth Services department and supported the Friends’ used book sales.

Madison Givens, a senior at Southeast of Saline High School, has been awarded a $1,500 scholarship. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Student Council, and serves as Varsity Captain of Scholars Bowl. Madison is the Chapter President of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America and serves as the Chapter President of the Art Club. She participates in Concert Band, Pep Band, Jazz Band, and Science Club. She plans to attend Fort Hays State University to study Biological Chemistry. Madison is the daughter of Kyle and Leslie Givens.

Kristen Kinion, a senior at Salina South High School, has been awarded a $1,500 scholarship. She is active in the Salina South Band, Scholars Bowl, Mathletes, Salina Municipal Band, and Salina Youth Symphony, and was a member of the KMEA NC District Honor Band during her junior and senior years. Kristen plans to attend Wichita State University. She is the daughter of Brian and Elizabeth Kinion.

SHAWNEE COUNTY—Law enforcement are investigating a suspect on multiple drug allegations.

Just after 3a.m.&nbsp;March 24, a sheriff' s deputy conducted a traffic stop on a gold 2000 Buick passenger car near NW Tyler Street and NW Lyman Road, according to Deputy Abigail Chrisstian.

 During the investigation, a K-9 Unit assisted and illegal narcotics were located.

The passenger, Ashley N. Dixon, 31, of Topeka, was arrested and booked into the Shawnee County Jail on requested charges of&nbsp;Possession of an opiate, opium, narcotic or certain stimulant, Use/possess with intent to use drug paraphernalia, Trafficking contraband into a correctional facility and Interference with the judicial process.

Sheriff: Passenger in Kan. traffic stop caught with drugs

JUPITER ISLAND, Fla. (AP) — Tiger Woods showed signs of impairment and was arrested Friday at the scene of a car crash in which he struck another vehicle and rolled his Land Rover, authorities said.

Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek said Woods and the person in the other vehicle were not injured. Woods was able to crawl out of the passenger side of his Land Rover.

The crash occurred just after 2 p.m. not far from where&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/hub/tiger-woods">Woods</a>&nbsp;lives on Jupiter Island. Budensiek said Woods attempted to pass a pressure cleaner truck while driving on a two-land road. He swerved to avoid a collision as he was passing the truck, but clipped the back end of the truck’s trailer. Woods’ vehicle then rolled onto its driver’s side.

Budensiek said investigators at the scene found Woods to be showing signs of impairment. He did a breathalyzer test, which came out negative, but he refused to take a urine test. Authorities charged him with driving under the influence with property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test, Budensiek said. Both charges are misdemeanors.

Woods' manager at Excel Sports did not immediately respond to a text message seeking information.

This was at least the third time&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/photo-gallery/tiger-woods-golf-46cea636624aaf144bd8983a48e7518d">Woods has been involved in a car crash</a>, most recently in February 2021 when his SUV ran off a coastal road in Los Angeles at a high rate of speed, leading to multiple leg and ankle injuries. Woods said later doctors considered amputation.

Woods has played 11 tournaments since that 2021 crash, not finishing closer than within 16 shots of the winner the four times he finished 72 holes.

He also was&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/e2ef6fcbbe2e49c9b65c30f50438d058">arrested on a DUI charge</a>&nbsp;in 2017 when south Florida police found him asleep behind the wheel of his car that was parked awkwardly with damage to the driver's side. Woods said he had taken a bad mix of painkillers. He later pleaded guilty to reckless driving.

Woods won his fifth Masters, and 15th major, in 2019. He has 82 wins on the PGA Tour, tied for the all-time record with Sam Snead.

Woods, 50, had been working his way back to golf from a seventh back surgery in September. He had not decided whether he could play in&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/masters-augusta-national-player-services-building-614ef12f40fbd078abdb8f9bc6dffc5b">the Masters</a>&nbsp;on April 9-12.

His last official tournament was the British Open in 2024. Woods ruptured his Achilles tendon in March 2025 and that kept him off the course all season even before the back surgery. He managed to play in his indoor TGL golf league on Tuesday night.

He has kept deeply involved in PGA Tour affairs as chairman of the Future Competition Committee that is restructuring the model of the tour.

Woods also faced a soft deadline at the end of the month to decide whether to become U.S. Ryder Cup captain for the 2027 matches in Ireland. Woods was offered the job for the last Ryder Cup and did not turn it down until June. The PGA of America wants a decision much sooner this time.

A Wichita man with an outstanding warrant from Salina, kicked and spit on officers before his arrest.

According to the Salina Police Department (SPD) on Thursday evening, officers were dispatched to Salina Regional Health Center for the report of an individual who was being discharged from the hospital, but had an outstanding warrant for their arrest.

The suspect was identified as Joel Driscoll of Wichita (65) and when officers made contact with him, he was reportedly non-compliant during the attempted arrest.

SPD stated Driscoll kicked and spit on two different officers.&nbsp;

He was&nbsp;eventually arrested and transported to the Saline County Jail where he was booked for Battery of Law Enforcement Officer, Interference with&nbsp;Law Enforcement Officer and his outstanding warrant for Failure to Appear.

SEDGWICK COUNTY —A man injured in a fatal fight on July 4, will return to court Friday.

&nbsp;Eduardo Diaz-Yobal, 33, will face a preliminary hearing in Judge Christopher Magana's courtroom, according to the Sedgwick District Attorney's office. His hearing on the charges in September and again in February were postponed.&nbsp; The judge is expected to determine if there is enough evidence to move the case to a trial.

Diaz-Yobal is charged with first-degree murder in&nbsp;the death of 33-year-old Cesar Gonzalez.

Early on July 4, police responded to a report of an assault in the 3000 block of North Fairview in Wichita, according to a media release from Wichita Police. A caller reported witnessing a man attacking another man. The victim was later identified as Gonzalez of Wichita.&nbsp;

Before officers arrived, the suspect fled the scene. Officers found Gonzalez unresponsive in the parking lot. Sedgwick County EMS transported him to an area hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased at 1:54 a.m.

Officers located the suspect identified as<a href="https://ssc.sedgwickcounty.org/inmatesearch/Details.aspx?Id=254855">&nbsp;Diaz-Yobal, 33, of Wichita,</a>&nbsp;in the 300 block of W. 29th Street and took him into custody without incident.

Diaz-Yobal had injuries consistent with the altercation and was admitted to an area hospital for treatment, released and then booked into the Sedgwick County Jail where he is being on bond of over&nbsp;&nbsp;$1,500,000.00, according to online jail records.

On Monday, police confirmed the alleged threat. "We are aware of the threats made against Mayor Lily Wu. Our investigators have been in contact with the Mayor and police are working closely with the mayor and her staff.”

Just before 11:30a.m. March 18, a sheriff's deputy conducted a traffic stop on a red 2004 Jeep near SW 6th Avenue and SW Harrison Street, according to Shawnee County Deputy Abigail Christian.

 During the investigation, illegal narcotics were located. The driver, Karen M. Langston, 38, of Topeka, was arrested and booked into the Shawnee County Dept. of Corrections on requested charges of, Trafficking contraband into a correctional facility, Possession of an opiate, opium, narcotic or certain stimulant, Driving while license suspended; 3rd or subsequent conviction, Violating a traffic control device

Langston also had a suspended driver’s license and three misdemeanor warrants for her arrest.

Sheriff: Kan. woman wanted on warrants was transporting drugs

A Salina man was arrested for stabbing a teenager in the back, needing medical attention.

According to the Salina Police Department (SPD) on Wednesday at around 1:15 am, officers were dispatched to an alleyway between&nbsp;Charles and W. Prescott for the report of a stabbing.

Upon arrival, officers made contact with Damien Anderson (21) who was suspected to have stabbed an 18-year old male in the back, sending him to the hospital.&nbsp;

Reportedly, an argument occurred between Anderson and the victim inside the 18-year old's home. Multiple people were inside the house, when Anderson grabbed a knife and ran towards the victim, attempting the stab him.

The victim exited the home and ran towards his friend's vehicle, but Anderson caught up and stabbed him in the back, according to SPD.

Anderson was arrested in the area and booked into the Saline County Jail for the requested charge of Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon.

The victim's friend transported him to&nbsp;Salina Regional Health Center and is being treated for the stab wound on his back.

Prescott for the report of a stabbing.Upon arrival, officers made contact with Damien Anderson (21) who was suspected to have stabbed an 18-year old male in the back, sending him to the hospital.&nbsp;Reportedly, an argument occurred between Anderson and the victim inside the 18-year old's home. Multiple people were inside the house, when Anderson grabbed a knife and ran towards the victim, attempting the stab him.The victim exited the home and ran towards his friend's vehicle, but Anderson caught up and stabbed him in the back, according to SPD.Anderson was arrested in the area and booked into the Saline County Jail for the requested charge of Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon.The victim's friend transported him to&nbsp;Salina Regional Health Center and is being treated for the stab wound on his back.

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — Afghanistan’s Taliban authorities on Tuesday released&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/afghanistan-us-wrongful-detention-taliban-9dbca837b09f51f06aeb776bb24d1982">American academic Dennis Coyle</a>&nbsp;after holding him for over a year, with the Foreign Ministry saying the release came on the occasion of&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/islam-eid-al-fitr-celebration-ramadan-ce78168c35b35af56ef5ee1ff8b3fef1">Eid al-Fitr</a>, the Muslim holiday that marks the end of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.

A statement from the ministry said the academic researcher had been released in Kabul, the country’s capital, following an appeal from his family and after Afghanistan’s Supreme Court “considered his previous imprisonment sufficient.”

Coyle was detained in January 2025. Afghan authorities accused him of violating laws, but never specified which ones.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio welcomed the release.

“President (Donald) Trump is committed to ending unjust detentions overseas – Dennis joins over 100 Americans who have been freed in the past 15 months under his second term in office,” Rubio said in a statement. “While this is a positive step by the Taliban, more work needs to be done,” he added.

Earlier this month, the U.S. State Department announced the&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/afghanistan-state-department-hostages-un-13ca1e3fb7b54a6c3fa912ae0a6084bb">designation of Afghanistan</a>&nbsp;as a sponsor of wrongful detention, accusing it of engaging in “hostage diplomacy.” Afghanistan joined Iran as countries singled out by the United States for detaining Americans in hopes of extracting policy concessions.

Afghanistan rejected U.S. allegations that it detains foreigners to obtain leverage over other countries, saying Afghan authorities arrest people for violating laws not to make a deal.

The State Department said earlier this month that the Taliban was believed to hold at least four U.S. nationals, including Coyle and Mahmood Habibi, an Afghan American businessman who worked as a contractor for a Kabul-based telecommunications company.

The FBI and Habibi’s family have said they believe he was taken by Taliban forces in 2022, but Afghan authorities have denied holding him.

Habibi’s brother, Ahmad Habibi, welcomed Coyle’s release but said in a statement that “we hope that our family will soon have the same feeling of relief, when Mahmood is returned home to us.”

Rubio also mentioned another American, Paul Overby, who is listed on the FBI’s missing persons website as having disappeared in eastern Afghanistan’s Khost province in mid-2014 while conducting research for a book he was writing.

“We are still seeking the immediate return of Mahmood Habibi, Paul Overby, and all other unjustly detained Americans,” Rubio said. “The Taliban must end their practice of hostage diplomacy.”

Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi said his country “has not arrested citizens of any country to achieve political goals,” according to a statement released by the ministry. Coyle, he said, had been released “after going through the judicial process as a result of violating the laws.”

Both Rubio and Muttaqi thanked the United Arab Emirates for helping mediate the release, and mentioned Qatar had also played a role. The foreign ministry said Muttaqi had met in Kabul with former U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad ahead of the release.

Afghanistan released Coyle “based on humanitarian sympathy and goodwill, and believes that such steps can further strengthen the atmosphere of trust between countries,” the Foreign Ministry said in its statement, adding that Kabul “also expresses the hope that both countries will find solutions to the remaining problems through understanding and constructive dialogue in the future.”

🎥American held more than a year by Taliban in Afghanistan arrives home

JACKSON COUNTY, Kan.—Law enforcement are investigating two suspects on drug allegations. On March 20,&nbsp; sheriff's deputies arrested Randy Lee Hyatt Jr., 34 and Lisa Colleen Graffius, 39, both of Topeka, and booked them into the Jackson County Jail.

The couple was arrested on Jackson County District Court warrants that stemmed from a multi-month drug investigation into the distribution of methamphetamine into Jackson County.&nbsp; The investigation led to a search warrant being served on January 6, 2026, at 12975 222nd&nbsp;Road, near Holton. Hyatt Jr. and Graffius previously lived at the residence.

Hyatt Jr. is in custody on requested charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of a hallucinogenic drug, possession of THC and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Graffius was booked into the Jackson County Jail on requested charges of&nbsp; possession of methamphetamine, possession of a hallucinogenic drug, possession of THC and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Kansas couple jailed after drug sales investigation

MCPHERSON&nbsp;COUNTY&nbsp;–&nbsp;The Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) and the McPherson County Sheriff's Office have made an arrest connected to the January 31, death of Joshua Soden.&nbsp;

KBI agents and investigators determined that attendees of a house party, held southwest of Inman, had a disagreement after consuming alcohol. Two groups of partygoers left in separate pickup trucks, but then met on a rural road approximately two miles from the party, near 4th Avenue and Arapaho Road, according to the KBI.

A physical altercation occurred between two adult males. During the fight, Joshua Soden, 19, of McPherson, was shot and killed. Soden was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The 18-year-old who shot Soden called 911 to report the incident. He then drove to the Inman Police Department where he was questioned by police, but had not been arrested. Several witnesses were also interviewed.

Just after 5p.m. March 23, KBI agents and McPherson County Deputies arrested Daniel T. Hawkinson, 18, of McPherson.&nbsp; Hawkinson was arrested on a warrant for voluntary manslaughter. He was then booked into the McPherson County Jail.&nbsp;

The McPherson County Attorney is expected to prosecute the case.

SEDGWICK COUNTY—Law enforcement are investigating an alleged threat against the Mayor of Wichita and have made an arrest.

According to the Sedgwick County booking report 50-year-old&nbsp;<a href="https://ssc.sedgwickcounty.org/inmatesearch/Details.aspx?Id=763462">Griffin K. Cornejo,</a> was arrested at 1021 West 31st S in Wichita and booked into jail just before 8pm. Monday on requested charges of criminal threat, cause terror, evacuation or disruption, according to booking records.

"Wichita Police in an email said, "As a matter of safety and policy, we do not discuss or disclose security measures, protective details, or tactical responses."

Cornejo,</a> was arrested at 1021 West 31st S in Wichita and booked into jail just before 8pm. Monday on requested charges of criminal threat, cause terror, evacuation or disruption, according to booking records."Wichita Police in an email said, "As a matter of safety and policy, we do not discuss or disclose security measures, protective details, or tactical responses."

RICE COUNTY—Law enforcement are investigating two suspects arrested after a car crash in Rice County.

Just after 8a.m. Monday, sheriff's deputies responded to an injury accident in the 1800 block of Kansas Highway 14, according to a social media report from the Rice County Sheriff.

While on patrol, deputies came upon a vehicle on its side. One occupant was still inside the vehicle and exited through the rear window. Both occupants were evaluated on scene by EMS and were released without transport.

Following further investigation, both occupants were taken into custody on requested charges that included Driving Under the Influence, possession of drugs, drug paraphernalia, firearms violations, and traffic-related offenses.

Both individuals were transported to the Rice County Detention Center for booking and are currently being held on bond. The sheriff's office did not release their names.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A civil jury in California found Monday that&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/hub/bill-cosby">Bill Cosby</a>&nbsp;was liable for drugging and sexually assaulting a woman in 1972 and awarded her $19.25 million.

After a nearly two-week trial in Santa Monica, jurors found the 88-year-old Cosby liable for the sexual battery and assault of Donna Motsinger.

The decision came nearly five years after&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/bill-cosby-conviction-overturned-5c073fb64bc5df4d7b99ee7fadddbe5a">Cosby was freed from prison</a>&nbsp;in Pennsylvania when the state Supreme Court threw out a criminal conviction based on similar allegations.

Motsinger had been a server at a restaurant in Sausalito near San Francisco who said in her lawsuit, filed in 2023, that Cosby had invited her to his stand-up comedy show at a theater in nearby San Carlos. Both were in their 30s at the time. She said Cosby gave her wine and two pills that she believed were aspirin, and that she was going in and out of consciousness as two men put her in a limousine.

“She woke up in her house with all her clothes off, except her underwear on – no top, no bra, and no pants,” the lawsuit said. “She knew she had been drugged and raped by Bill Cosby.”

In court filings, Cosby's lawyers argued that the allegations rested almost entirely on speculation and assumption, saying Motsinger “freely admits that she has no idea what happened.”
