Salina man with a criminal history flees law enforcement on a moped before arrest.

According to the Salina Police Department (SPD) on Thursday at around 7:45 pm,&nbsp;an officer discovered a man on a moped in the area of 8th and Mulberry commit a traffic infraction.

Subsequently, the officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop and the driver fled.

The driver turned onto Walnut to Santa Fe, but lost control when he attempted to turn onto Santa Fe and tipped the moped over in the intersection. 

The suspect then fled on foot and the officer pursued. He ran to the 100 block of S. Santa Fe, then went towards 5th&nbsp;Street where he stopped. He was taken then into custody without further incident. 

Colten Miller (23) of Salina was arrested and booked into the Saline County Jail in reference to Probation Violation warrants (2), Fleeing and Elude and Interference with LEO.&nbsp; 

SPD stated Miller was also booked for two previous cases that included an Aggravated Battery requested charge, where he placed a known associate into a choke hold back on March. 

The second case was when Miller allegedly accessed&nbsp;a known associate's Chime Card illegally and sent himself approximately $200, back on February.

He was placed with a Criminal Use of a Financial card and Computer Crime requested charge.

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Prosecutors are seeking&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/hub/tiger-woods">Tiger Woods</a>&nbsp;' prescription drug records from a pharmacy, a week after&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/tiger-woods-crash-bodycam-video-president-5d9f2443ef415040a45e7f0a7e4f4baa">his vehicle crashed</a>&nbsp;in Florida and he was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Prosecutors in Florida on Tuesday said they planned to issue a subpoena seeking copies of all prescription medication records for the legendary golfer on file at Lewis Pharmacy in Palm Beach, Florida from the start of the year through the end of last month.

Prosecutors in Martin County, Florida, want the times the prescriptions were filled, the number of pills, the dosage amounts and any instructions that accompanied the pills, such as warnings about driving while taking them, according to documents in an online court docket.

Any objections to the subpoena must be filed with the State Attorney’s Office within 10 days. Neither Lewis Pharmacy nor Woods’ attorney, Doug Duncan, immediately responded to emails seeking comment.

Woods pleaded not guilty in&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/tiger-woods-crash-dui-arrest-masters-9c5ec2a699599289d263d553e309928e">his driving under the influence case</a>&nbsp;in Florida last week, hours after a sheriff’s report said deputies found two pain pills in his pocket and he showed signs of impairment after his SUV clipped a trailer and rolled over on its side.

Woods was traveling at high speeds on a beachside, residential road on Jupiter Island with a 30 mph (nearly 50 kph) speed limit when the accident occurred, authorities said. The truck had $5,000 in damage, according to an incident report. Woods agreed to a Breathalyzer test that showed no signs of alcohol, but he refused a urine test, authorities said.

Woods said last week that he is stepping away to seek treatment.

It’s the second time Woods has taken a leave following a car crash. In 2009, after his SUV plowed into a fire hydrant and tree outside his home near Orlando, he took a leave of absence to work on being a better person. That lasted four months and he returned at the Masters.

He also was in a 2021 car crash in Los Angeles that damaged his right leg so badly he said doctors considered amputation.

Tiger Woods' medication records sought by prosecutors in DUI case

SEDGWICK COUNTY —A man arrested in Missouri for a&nbsp;deadly shooting in Wichita will return to court Thursday.

Donny J. Harris, 27, of Springfield, Missouri, is scheduled for a preliminary hearing in the courtroom of Judge Jeffrey Goering, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office. He is charged with first-degree murder.

Just after 8a.m. Jan. 26., police were dispatched to the&nbsp;the 900 block of East Indianapolis in Wichita&nbsp;for a reported welfare check after receiving information about a man down, according to Officer Kris Gupilan.

Upon arrival, officers located 37-year-old Julio Osborne suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Wichita police officers and detectives conducted a thorough and comprehensive investigation, working through challenging weather conditions and utilizing multiple departmental resources.

Officers from multiple WPD sections, Crime Scene Investigators,&nbsp;K-9 Mantra, and&nbsp;Flock technology&nbsp;were utilized to canvass the area, locate evidence, and develop investigative leads.&nbsp;K-9 Mantra located multiple shell casings in the snow during the search.

As a result of this coordinated effort, detectives were able to quickly identify a suspect identified as Harris and establish probable cause. An arrest warrant was issued for first-degree murder.

Working in close coordination with the Springfield Police Department, Harris was located and arrested on the evening of Jan. 26, in Springfield, Missouri.&nbsp;

Harris was booked into the Sedgwick County jail on February 7, according to online jail records.&nbsp;

SEDGWICK COUNTY — Police arrested a ninth person Tuesday as a result of the human trafficking operation Easter weekend in Sedgwick County.  Ruben Allan Nuncio, age 36 of Park City, was arrested and booked on requested charges Electronic Solicitation of a Minor and Promoting Obscenity.

The arrests also included Jose Salaicez, 43, Wichita; Rithesh Vooturi, 24, Wichita; Diego Rubin-Mancha, Maize; Jeremiah Johnson, 43, Goddard; Jason Jaso, 48, Wichita; Mitchell Norris, 31, Milan, Kansas; Troy Langhover, 49, Valley Center and Max Shellburg, 37, Derby.

During the operation, investigators identified 6 women involved in the sale of sexual relations. Among them were potential victims of human trafficking and there are ongoing efforts to provide them with appropriate assistance and resources.

9 men arrested in Kansas prostitution investigation

JACKSON COUNTY, Kan. —Law enforcement are investigating a suspect on drug allegations.

Just after 2a.m. April 5, a Jackson County Sheriff’s K-9 alerted to the presence of illegal narcotics in a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 parked near Mayetta, according to Sheriff Tim Morse.

The alleged driver of the vehicle, Dustin MacAllister Nicol, 45, of Mayetta, was placed under arrest and booked into the Jackson County Jail on requested charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, possession of THC, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

 </figure>JACKSON COUNTY, Kan. —Law enforcement are investigating a suspect on drug allegations.Just after 2a.m. April 5, a Jackson County Sheriff’s K-9 alerted to the presence of illegal narcotics in a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 parked near Mayetta, according to Sheriff Tim Morse.The alleged driver of the vehicle, Dustin MacAllister Nicol, 45, of Mayetta, was placed under arrest and booked into the Jackson County Jail on requested charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, possession of THC, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Just before 9:30a.m., KBI agents with the Child Victims Unit executed an arrest warrant at 703 W. Third St., in Oakley, for Dennis D. Dees, 39, of WaKeeney. Dees was arrested on requested charges that include 21 counts of sexual exploitation of a child.&nbsp;

On April 4, 2025, the WaKeeney Police Department requested the KBI investigate a case involving solicitation of a minor. The WaKeeney Police Department was initially contacted by the St. Croix Sheriff’s Office in Wisconsin about the case. During the investigation, evidence of child sexual abuse material was discovered on Dees’ electronic devices.

Following his arrest, Dees was booked into the Thomas County Sheriff’s Office Jail.&nbsp;

Northwest Kansas EMT accused of child sex crimes

Top speeds of over 80 mph were reached, after law enforcement arrested a teenager for allegedly stealing a vehicle.

According to the Salina Police Department (SPD) on Tuesday at about 11:30 pm, officers were dispatched to a central Salina home for the report of a stolen vehicle.

Reportedly, a 64-year old male told police just prior to calling, his silver 2005 Mercury Mountaineer was stolen from his driveway.&nbsp;

As officers were on the scene with the victim, about three minutes later, another officer on patrol located the stolen vehicle driving in the 200 block of N. 9th.

The officer attempted a traffic stop, but the driver did not comply and a pursuit ensued.

The driver continued east onto Elm, then north on Ohio, west on Pacific and then turned right heading north onto 9th, getting onto the Old 81 Highway.&nbsp;

Throughout the pursuit, the Kansas Highway Patrol assisted as the driver entered into Ottawa County. 

Top speeds reached to 83 mph in a 55 mph zone.

At the intersection of Laurel and north 135th road in Ottawa County,&nbsp; Minneapolis Police Department also assisted as well and deployed spike strips. The suspect then ran over them and eventually came to a stop.

Law enforcement then took the suspect driver identified as, Mykayle Sutton (18) of Salina into custody.

Sutton was booked into the Saline County Jail for the requested charges of:

Theft, Fleeing and Elude, Possession of an Opiate, Marijuana and Drug Paraphernalia, DUI.

SPD stated the keys were inside the Mountaineer when it was stolen.

Police: Teen flees law enforcement in stolen vehicle, reaching speeds over 80 mph 

Salina law enforcement arrested a man who repeatedly called, texted and attempted to break into a woman's home.

According to the Salina Police Department (SPD) on Wednesday just after midnight, a 26-year old female reported a known associate was trying to enter into her residence in north Salina.

Reportedly,&nbsp;Christopher Hernandez-Lopez (24) had been harrassing the victim by phone, before he arrived to her home. 

SPD stated he attempted to call her over 60 times and sent 10 text messages.

Hernandez-Lopez then arrived to her home, which there were other residents inside as well. He then broke a screen door and attempted to gain entry.

Officers then arrived and arrested Hernandez-Lopez, after he resisted.

He was booked into the Saline County Jail for the requested charges of:

Aggravated Burglary (7), Stalking, Harassment by Telecommunication Device, Criminal Damage to Property and Obstruction.

The 5th Annual Charlie Walker Pitch Challenge was held on April 1, at the Kansas State University Salina campus, where entrepreneurs competed for $16,000 in prize funding awarded to the top five finalists. 

The event was presented in partnership with the Salina Area Chamber of Commerce, Salina Community Economic Development Organization, Kansas State University Salina, Kansas Wesleyan University, The Temple, Network Kansas / VentureDash, and Start Up Salina.

The annual prize fund—totaling $16,000 each year—is generously donated by Bennington State Bank and JRI Hospitality, Inc.

 This year’s program opened with remarks from Guy Walker, President of Blue Beacon, Inc., who welcomed attendees and shared reflections on his grandfather, Charlie Walker, the event’s namesake. A successful entrepreneur and mentor, Charlie Walker dedicated his life to helping others launch businesses and build careers in the Salina community. He passed away in 2012, leaving a legacy of encouragement and opportunity for future innovators.

Eight contestants advanced to this year’s competition after submitting a comprehensive 12-page business plan and a three-minute elevator-pitch video. 

During the live event, each finalist delivered a seven-minute presentation outlining their business concept, followed by a five-minute Q&amp;A session with a panel of five local judges

Fresh from his 1st place win at the Saline County Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge in early March, HiCo took 1st place at the 2026 Charlie Walker Pitch Challenge. HiCo delivers an all-inclusive service model that equips guests with premium gear, hike-friendly meals, and expert guides to access secluded backcountry trails that don’t appear on mainstream maps. Designed for flexibility and customization, HiCo offers both public expeditions for shared adventure and private bookings for travelers seeking a personalized pace and complete privacy.

Guests can choose their preferred trail and trip length, ranging from two-night treks to five-night expeditions. Every experience includes high-end equipment, professional navigation, and the support needed to explore remote terrain with confidence.

The Maker’s Shop - Rindi &amp; Matt Guldner

Rindi and Matt, the second-place winners, plan to use their award to launch The Maker’s Shop in downtown Lindsborg. Designed as both an art supply boutique and a hands-on creation space, The Maker’s Shop will offer a thoughtfully curated selection of quality art materials alongside an inviting environment where creativity—and a few joyful messes—are encouraged.

With support from their pitch-challenge win, Rindi and Matt aim to create a community hub that inspires connection and imagination. In addition to retail offerings, The Maker’s Shop will feature project kits that promote creativity, emotional well-being, shared experiences, and time spent making something meaningful together.

This Moment Mobile Events LLC - Kellen &amp; Yessenia Womochil

Kellen and Yessenia, the third-place winners, are poised to expand their growing event business, This Moment Mobile Events LLC. The company currently offers a digital photo booth, a vintage photo-booth camper, and an audio guest-book experience—unique services designed to help guests capture greetings, memories, and meaningful moments at special events.

Rooted in the belief that every celebration deserves a personal touch, This Moment Mobile Events focuses on creating opportunities for people to connect and leave with a keepsake that reflects the spirit of the occasion.

With support from their pitch-challenge award, Kellen and Yessenia plan to add a mobile bar built from a renovated Cushman truck. This new feature will enhance their ability to deliver memorable, customizable event experiences and marks an exciting next step in the company’s growth.

Casa Dolores Café - Angelica Carrillo-Hernandez

Angelica, the fourth-place winner, is preparing to bring Casa Dolores Café to life as a mobile coffee business inspired by her belief that “where there is coffee, there is love.” With her award, she plans to launch a high-quality, mobile coffee trailer featuring creative, culturally inspired beverages that reflect her heritage and passion for community.

Angelica aims to have the mobile café operating within the next six months, offering a space where customers can enjoy coffee made with heart, celebrate culture and tradition, and connect with one another. Her vision is to create a welcoming gathering place—one cup at a time.

Bobby’s Bees, a small but growing honey producer based in Salina, began its journey in 2025 with just a few hives and a first-year harvest of 48 pounds of honey. With their fifth-place finish, the team behind Bobby’s Bees is ready to expand their operation and increase production.

The award will help Bobby’s Bees add more hives and explore new varieties of honey and honey-based products. Their goal is to bring more locally produced, high-quality honey to the community while continuing to grow a business rooted in sustainability, craftsmanship, and Kansas pride.

Also participating in this year’s competition were Bonnie Alvarado of Forever Florals by Bonnie LLC; Sade Wright of Organized Chaos Consulting LLC; and Drew White of White Buffalo Meat Co. Each brought forward a unique business concept, contributing to a strong and diverse field of entrepreneurs.

Kansas Wesleyan is proud to host the second annual Regional First Responder Wellness Conference on April 16.

The day-long event is designed to bring awareness and growth to the mental health challenges faced by first responders on an everyday basis.

Featured speakers will include Annie Boswell, speaking on spirituality; Dr. Kelly Moore, chair of the KWU Department of Social Work and event organizer, talking about moral injury and trauma-informed supervision; Karen Blanton of the KBI, discussing peer support; and David Lanning, KWU assistant professor of Criminal Justice and event organizer, with managing secondary trauma in families.

The day will be appropriate for people such as medical first responders, law enforcement officers and firefighters, nurses and social workers.

“What began as my doctoral dissertation has grown into a mission to provide meaningful support for our first responders,” Moore said. “We are committed to creating a space where these professionals can address the unique challenges of their work and find a path toward long-term resilience.”

The sessions will begin at 9 a.m. and run through 4 p.m. at Church of the Cross in Salina (1600 Rush St).

The $20 suggested donation will include lunch and books.

KWU hosting event to bring awareness of mental health challenges faced by first responders

SEDGWICK COUNTY —Law enforcement investigating a shooting that critically injured a woman have arrested the suspect.

On Monday afternoon,&nbsp;Wichita Police Department issued an attempting to locate for 28-year-old Jeremiah Cardenas of Wichita, in connection with&nbsp; shooting in Wichita.&nbsp; Police arrested him a short time later.

Just before 4a.m. Monday,&nbsp;police responded to a shooting call in the 1500 block of South Seneca, according to Officer Bradley Wright.

Once officers arrived, they found a 40-year-old Wichita woman with multiple gunshot wounds. She was taken to a local hospital by EMS in critical but stable condition. Wright confirmed that the shooting did not happen at the location in the 1500 block of South Seneca. Investigators are working to identify the actual scene of the shooting.

Cardenas is being held on requested charges that include domestic battery, criminal damage to property, criminal threat, criminal possession of a weapon and aggravated battery.

Their flyby of the moon even included some celestial sightseeing besides yielding rich science — a significant step toward landing boot prints near the moon’s south pole in just two years.

A total solar eclipse greeted the&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/nasa-moon-artemis-crew-3a47786c3757f7d79154d96933aa5bd9">three Americans and one Canadian</a>&nbsp;as the moon temporarily blocked the sun from their perspective. Mercury, Venus, Mars and Saturn nodded at them from the black void. The landing sites of Apollo 12 and 14 also were visible, poignant reminders of NASA’s first age of exploration&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/nasa-moon-apollo-artemis-astronauts-c3bb9888b75e67574a1b66e643b87621">more than half a century ago</a>.

In an especially riveting retro throwback, Artemis II shattered the distance record set by Apollo 13 in 1970. NASA’s Orion capsule reached a maximum distance of 252,756 miles (406,771 kilometers) from Earth before hanging a U-turn behind the moon, 4,101 miles (6,600 kilometers) farther than Apollo 13.

“It is blowing my mind what you can see with the naked eye from the moon right now. It is just unbelievable,” Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen radioed. He challenged “this generation and the next to make sure this record is not long-lived.”

Artemis II astronauts get an Apollo wake-up message

Apollo 13 commander Jim Lovell wished the crew well in a recording made two months before his death last August. Mission Control beamed up his message to commander Reid Wiseman, pilot Victor Glover, Christina Koch and Hansen, before their fly-around began.

“Welcome to my old neighborhood,” said Lovell, who also flew on Apollo 8, humanity’s first lunar visit. “It’s a historic day and I know how busy you’ll be, but don’t forget to enjoy the view.”

The Artemis II astronauts carried up with them the Apollo 8 silk patch that accompanied Lovell to the moon. “It’s just a real honor to have that on board with us,” Wiseman said.

Artemis II is using the same maneuver that Apollo 13 did after its “Houston, we’ve had a problem” oxygen tank explosion wiped out any hope of a moon landing.

Known as a free-return lunar trajectory, this no-stopping-to-land route takes advantage of Earth and the moon’s gravity, reducing the need for fuel. It’s a celestial figure-eight that put the astronauts on course for home once they emerged from behind the moon Monday evening.

Artemis II’s lunar fly-around and intense observation period lasted seven hours, by far the highlight of the nearly 10-day test flight that will end with a splashdown in the Pacific on Friday.

Venturing as close as 4,067 miles (6,545 kilometers) to the gray dusty surface, the astronauts zipped through a list of more than two dozen targets, using powerful Nikon cameras as well as their iPhones to zoom in on impact craters and other intriguing lunar features.

Before getting started, they requested permission to name two bright, freshly carved craters. They suggested Integrity, the name of their capsule, and Carroll, commander Wiseman’s wife, who died of cancer in 2020.

Wiseman wept as Hansen put in the request to Mission Control, and all four astronauts embraced in tears.

“Such a majestic view out here,” Wiseman radioed once he regained his composure and started picture-taking. The astronauts called down that they managed to capture the moon and Earth in the same shot, and they provided a running commentary to scientists back in Houston on what they were seeing.

At one point, Koch reported an overwhelming sensation of emotion for a second or two while zooming in on the moon. “Something just drew me in suddenly to the lunar landscape and it became real,” she said.

The Artemis II astronauts made their closest approach to the moon and reached their maximum distance from Earth while they were out of contact. Their speed at closest approach: 3,139 mph (5,052 kph). The spacecraft accelerated as it appeared from behind the moon and the planned communications blackout and made tracks for Earth.

An Earthrise came into view showing Asia, Africa and Oceania as Mission Control called out: “We are Earthbound and ready to bring you home.” Flight controllers in Houston flipped their mission patches over to signify the return leg.

Wiseman and his crew spent years studying lunar geography to prepare for the big event, adding solar eclipses to their repertoire during the past few weeks. By launching last Wednesday, they ensured themselves of a total solar eclipse from their vantage point behind the moon, courtesy of the cosmos.

Topping their science target list: Orientale Basin, a sprawling impact basin with three concentric rings, the outermost of which stretches nearly 600 miles (950 kilometers) across.

Their moon mentor, NASA geologist Kelsey Young, expects thousands of pictures.

Artemis II is NASA’s first astronaut moonshot since Apollo 17 in 1972. It sets the stage for next year’s Artemis III, which will see another Orion crew practice docking with lunar landers in orbit around Earth. The culminating moon landing by two astronauts near the moon’s south pole will follow on Artemis IV in 2028.

While Artemis II may be taking Apollo 13’s path, it’s most reminiscent of Apollo 8 and humanity’s first lunar visitors who orbited the moon on Christmas Eve 1968 and read from the Book of Genesis.

Glover said flying to the moon during Christianity’s Holy Week brought home for him “the beauty of creation.” Earth is an oasis amid “a whole bunch of nothing, this thing we call the universe” where humanity exists as one, he observed over the weekend.

“This is an opportunity for us to remember where we are, who we are, and that we are the same thing and that we’ve got to get through this together,” Glover said, clasping hands with his crewmates.

SEDGWICK COUNTY—&nbsp;A Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office detention deputy was arrested Saturday, on a misdemeanor charge of buying sexual relations, according to sheriff's department spokesman Branden Stitt.

Diego Rubio-Mancha, 22, of Maize, was arrested by the Park City Police Department and booked into the Sedgwick County Adult Detention Facility on a single count of buying sexual relations.

Rubio-Mancha joined the Sheriff’s Office as a detention deputy in February 2024. The Sheriff’s Office placed him on administrative leave pending the outcome of an internal investigation.&nbsp; He met the requirement for bail and is no longer in custody, according to online jail records.

Kansas jail deputy is jailed for allegedly buying sexual relations

&nbsp;JACKSON COUNTY, Kan. (JASO) – Law enforcement are investigating a suspect on multiple drug allegations.

Just after 6p.m. April 4, Jackson County Sheriff’s deputies conducted a free air sniff with a K-9 around a Chrysler Sebring that was parked in the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office Jail parking lot, according to&nbsp;Sheriff Tim Morse.

The K-9 alerted to the presence of illegal narcotics. Deputies seized illegal drug contraband from the vehicle. The registered owner of the vehicle, Lisa Ann Guffey, 61, of Holton, who came to the jail for visitation purposes, was arrested and booked into the Jackson County Jail on requested charges that include possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

(JASO) – Law enforcement are investigating a suspect on multiple drug allegations.Just after 6p.m. April 4, Jackson County Sheriff’s deputies conducted a free air sniff with a K-9 around a Chrysler Sebring that was parked in the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office Jail parking lot, according to&nbsp;Sheriff Tim Morse.The K-9 alerted to the presence of illegal narcotics. Deputies seized illegal drug contraband from the vehicle. The registered owner of the vehicle, Lisa Ann Guffey, 61, of Holton, who came to the jail for visitation purposes, was arrested and booked into the Jackson County Jail on requested charges that include possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

SEDGWICK COUNTY —The Wichita Police Department is attempting to locate 28-year-old Jeremiah Cardenas of Wichita, in connection with a shooting in the 1500 block of South Seneca.

Cardenas is described as 6-foot-2 inches tall, 200 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. He is&nbsp;potentially armed and dangerous.

 </figure>Just before 4a.m. Monday,&nbsp;police responded to a shooting call in the 1500 block of South Seneca, according to Officer Bradley Wright.Once officers arrived, they found a 40-year-old Wichita woman with multiple gunshot wounds. She was taken to a local hospital by EMS in critical but stable condition. Wright confirmed that the shooting did not happen at the location in the 1500 block of South Seneca.
