BARTON COUNTY — Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas man after a high speed chase and crash.

Just before 10:30 p.m. Thursday, an Ellinwood Police Department officer conducted a traffic stop in the 500 block of South Main Street and learned the driver had a Barton District Warrant for his arrest. 

The driver later identified as Shawn Aaron Cook, 30, Great Bend, refused to exit the vehicle.&nbsp; Hled in the vehicle to South East 20 Road where he turned westbound and continued at speeds in excess of 120 mph and struck a deer.

After the crash, Cook temporarily lost control of the vehicle, the regained control and intentionally drove directly towards the pursuing officer, nearly striking the officer head-on. 

Cook then drove into a field in the 700 block of SE 20 Road and traveled North bound for a short distance before his vehicle was disabled from the deer collision.

Police took Cook into custody without further incident and transported him the Barton County Jail where he was booked in on the Barton District Warrant for failure to appear, aggravated assault on law enforcement officer along with multiple traffic violations.

HAYS – Garden City will be the first stop in the 2020 edition of Fort Hays State University’s three-state, 12-city student recognition program (SRP) tour.

The annual, month-long series recognizes high school and transfer students who are interested in learning more about FHSU and those who have been awarded scholarships from the university for the next academic year. The event also provides an overview of what makes FHSU a special place, both in and out of the classroom.

The Office of Admissions encourages all juniors and seniors in high school, as well as all prospective transfer students, to attend these free events.

The Garden City event begins at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 26, at Garden City High School.

There is still time for students and their families to sign up, if they haven’t already, by going to&nbsp;<a href="https://www.fhsu.edu/srp" target="_blank">www.fhsu.edu/srp</a>. The SRP schedule, below, includes the core area served at each program site, but students are welcome to attend any SRP program. However, they must RSVP by calling 785-628-5673 or by signing up online through the link.

This year, the tour will feature four&nbsp;new scholarships with award levels ranging from $15,000 to $6,000 over four-years, or $3,750 to $1,500 yearly. They are the $3,750 Tiger Pride Scholarship; the $2,750 Victor E. Scholarship; the $2,000 Black and Gold Scholarship; and the $1,500 Hays City Scholarship.

Scholarships awarded under the revised scholarship program can also be fully renewable, provided students meet renewal criteria. These scholarships are not need-based, and there are no built-in award amount reduction for students who secure additional financial awards from other sources.

Fort Hays State’s enhanced scholarship program will include three levels of transfer scholarship awards, ranging from $500 to $1,500. These awards are based on the student’s GPA and the completion of at least 30 credit hours.

A highlight at each event is when President Tisa Mason individually recognizes students who have already been awarded scholarships to FHSU for the next academic year. Other university officers, administrators and faculty also attend the programs to answer questions and to visit with prospective students and their families and friends.

Another highlight is the dessert or pizza buffet after the recognition portion of the program. Dessert is served at the Garden City SRP. Students and their friends and families have the opportunity to mingle with FHSU faculty, staff and administrators before and after the scholarship presentations.

Since its beginning in the 1987-88 year, Fort Hays State’s SRP program – unique in higher education – has had the mission of recognizing all students interested in college, and their friends and families. the public is welcome to attend.

Students and families in Kansas, Colorado, and Nebraska can sign up now to attend programs in their areas. High school juniors, seniors and transfer students have already been invited to Student Recognition Programs in their areas.

FHSU's student recognition tour coming to Beloit, Salina next year

BARTON COUNTY — Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas teen on drug and weapons charges after a traffic stop.

Just after 11:30p.m. Tuesday, an officer from the Great Bend Police Department stopped a green 1997 Ford F-150 pickup in the 1900 block of 10th Street for a traffic violation, according to a media release from police.

During the course of the traffic stop Great Bend Police Department K9 Menta was deployed to do an exterior sniff of the vehicle. Menta indicated a positive odor of narcotics. Upon completion of the sniff officers searched the vehicle.

During the search of the vehicle methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and a handgun were located.

A passenger inside the vehicle identified as Garrett Sigmund, 18, was arrested for narcotics and weapons violations. Sigmund was transported to the Barton County Jail where he was booked in lieu of bond.&nbsp;

Kansas teen arrested on drug and weapons allegations

ABILENE -- Cooper Holloway personifies the spirit of the season.

The Abilene youngster continues to help comfort children at medical facilities with his Cooper’s Care Cases. Cooper recently donated another 225 cases (draw-string bags) to Memorial Hospital in Abilene. They will be given to children who are patients in the emergency department, laboratory, radiology, inpatient unit, and Heartland Health Care Clinic.

Why is Cooper so dedicated to making the bags? In May of 2013, he was diagnosed with a Common Variable Immune Disease which makes it hard for his body to fight off illness. Cooper, however, is strong and draws part of his strength from helping and encouraging other children.

Once Cooper was diagnosed at approximately age 4, he had to start weekly plasma transfusions with T and B cells, according to information from Memorial Health Systems (MHS). Because of the nature of his disease, Cooper had to take a bag of his own toys and books with him to the hospital in Kansas City. One day while at the hospital, Cooper told his mother, Dawn, that he wished all children in the hospital had their own bag of things.

Thus, the idea for Cooper's Care Cases began. 

Initally, he distributed the hand-made cloth drawstring bags to children in the Kansas City hospital in which he spent so much time. In 2015, he began making and donating bags to Abilene's Memorial Hospital to help local children as well.

Now Cooper has help from family and friends creating and filling the bags, which contain a notebook for writing and coloring, a storybook, small notepads, crayons, a pen, pencils, stickers, a note from Cooper that reads "stay strong like Cooper," and also included now is a small toy and book donated by McDonald's of Abilene.

Abilene boy continues to comfort other children



Tina Marie Howland, 62, of Salina, Kansas, passed away Friday, December 13, 2019 in Salina.

Tina was born in Topeka, Kansas, on March 21, 1957, a daughter of Gerald H. Stormann and the late Mary Rose (Slusser) Stormann.

She loved her family more than anything. She spent her time enjoying her family and country music. She was also writing a book about being a domestic violence survivor.

Survivors include her son, Gerald Howland; daughter, Mary Bishop; and step daughter Trista Ballard.

She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Brandon, Michelle, Marlee, Nathaniel, Phillip, Johanna, George, Crystal, and Joshua; and many brothers, sisters, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Jimmy Ray Ballard.

She was loved by everyone and will be greatly missed by all of her friends and family.

Cremation has been chosen, and the family will hold a memorial service at a later date.

BUTLER COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas felon on new charges after a weekend arrest.

Just before 12:30P.M. Saturday, police were called to a disturbance in the southern part of the city of Augusta, according to the department for public safety.&nbsp;

 Upon arrival, police found two victims identified as Dana Haynes, 59-year old female in critical condition and Jeffrey Carley, a 58-year old male, in serious condition. Butler County EMS transported both to Wesley Medical Center.

Officers were able to find the suspect, Wayne Riggins, 28, who fled the scene. He has been booked in to Butler County Jail on two counts of aggravated battery.

Kansas felon remains jailed for weekend stabbing

MONTGOMERY COUNTY– Law enforcement authorities are investigating a fatal drive-by shooting and have made an arrest, according to a media release from the Kansas Bureau of Investigation.

At approximately 6 p.m. Saturday, the Independence Police Department received a 911 call from a citizen who reported hearing gunshots. When officers responded they found a female victim who had been shot near the intersection of Laurel St. and Main St. She was pronounced dead at the scene and later identified as 19-year-old Kimberly D. Meeks of Coffeyville.

On Sunday afternoon,&nbsp; authorities arrested 18-year-old Benjamin J. Mason at his residence in Coffeyville for first-degree murder. Mason was then booked into the Montgomery County Jail.

Preliminary information indicates that Meeks and a white male were walking on foot in the area when an unknown person in a car fired gunshots at them and fled. The male accompanying Meeks, who is approximately 19-years-old, also ran from the area.&nbsp;

The Montgomery County Attorney is expected to prosecute the case. The investigation is ongoing.

WYANDOTTE COUNTY —A suspect in the October shooting at a Kansas bar that killed four people and injured five others is now back in a Kansas jail after an arrest in Mexico.

Hugo Villanueva-Morales, 29, was booked over the weekend into the Wyandotte County Detention Center, according to online jail records.

He is a suspect in the shooting at a Tequila KC bar.  Villanueva-Morales and another man, 23-year-old Javier Alatorre, are charged each with four counts of first-degree murder, with bond set at $1 million each. Alatorre was arrested shortly after the shooting.&nbsp;

Bar shooting suspect returned from Mexico to Kansas jail

SHAWNEE COUNTY— Law enforcement authorities are investigating two suspects on numerous felony charges after a traffic stop.

Just before 1:30a.m. Wednesday, a deputy observed a reckless driver operating a Toyota Corolla near SW 12th&nbsp;and Washburn Avenue, according to Sgt. Todd Stallbaumer with the Shawnee County Sheriff's Department.

The deputy attempted a traffic stop but the driver failed to stop.&nbsp; The driver eventually stopped near SW 5th&nbsp;Street and Lane Street, exited the vehicle, and ran from the scene.&nbsp; 

The driver was located a short time later a block away near SW 6th&nbsp;and Lane, according to Stallbaumer.

Deputies located Methamphetamine in the vehicle and made two arrests. The driver identified as Devante Jordan Reed-McElroy, 24, of Topeka was booked on requested charges that include Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Fleeing/Attempting to Elude LEO, Reckless Driving, Driving on Expired License and Other Traffic and Registration Violations.&nbsp;

The passenger identified as&nbsp;Tia L. Blackford, 24, of Topeka&nbsp; is being held for Felony Warrants for Narcotics. The Kansas Highway Patrol and Topeka Police Department assisted with this incident.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Sheriff: 2 felony suspects jailed after Kan. traffic stop

RILEY COUNTY — Law enforcement authorities in Riley County are investigating an alleged sex crime and have a suspect arrested in Texas in custody in Kansas.

On November 14, the Riley County Police Department reported deputies in Texas arrested 41-year-old Sean Morgan in New Braunfels, Texas on a Riley County District Court Warrant for rape, aggravated criminal sodomy, attempted rape, aggravated kidnapping and aggravated sexual battery.&nbsp;

HUTCHINSON – Held to season-lows in both points and field goal percentage, the Cloud County Community College women's basketball team would be unable to overcome their offensive woes in a 101-35 road defeat to number seven nationally-ranked Hutchinson Community College at the Hutchinson Sports Arena Wednesday.

With the first half of the season in the books, Cloud County enters the holiday break with a 6-8 overall record and 1-4 mark in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference. The Blue Dragons are now 12-1 overall and remain atop the KJCCC with a perfect 5-0 conference mark.

It would be a quick 8-0 hole for Cloud County as the Blue Dragons would jump out and connect on two threes along with a transition layup to force a T-Bird timeout 1:38 into the ball game as Hutchinson would score the first 10 points of the game. CCCC would finally get on the board at the 6:10 mark of the first quarter with an&nbsp;<a href="http://cloudtbirds.com/sports/wbkb/2019-20/bios/castilleja_alyssa_cm9q" target="_blank">Alyssa Castilleja</a>&nbsp;triple, but the points would be far and few in between as Cloud County would trail 26-6 following the first quarter of action.

Offensive woes prove costly for T-Bird women

A Fort Hays State University student-athlete was arrested over the weekend on suspicion of sexual battery.

Junior Efe Osaghae, St. Louis, was booked into the Ellis County Jail on Sunday on suspicion of aggravated sexual battery, aggravated burglary and criminal restraint.

He appeared in court on Monday, according to Ellis County Attorney Tom Drees, with bond set at $75,000 and a no contact order with the victim was issued.&nbsp;

Osaghae was subsequently released on bond.

At FHSU Osaghae competes on the wrestling and soccer teams.

Scott Cason, FHSU chief communications officer, responded to a call placed to FHSU law enforcement. Cason issued a statement.

“Fort Hays State University Police made an arrest this past Saturday in the case of a current student's alleged involvement in an act of gender-based violence,” the statement said. “The university is working closely with local law enforcement in the investigation of this case. The university does not comment on specific cases.&nbsp; The safety of our students, faculty, staff, and visitors is, and will always remain our primary concern.”

It was not immediately clear after reviewing the police report where and the exact time the incident occurred. The Hays Post also was unable to determine if the victim was a student.

FHSU athlete arrested for alleged sexual assault

SHAWNEE COUNTY — Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas felon on new charges after barricading himself in a residence following a domestic incident Tuesday.

Just before 6a.m. Tuesday, the Shawnee County Emergency Communications Center began receiving reports of a domestic disturbance in the 4100 block of SW Shenandoah Road, according to police spokesperson Gretchen Koenen.

 The suspect identified as 41-year-old Michael Stringfield of Topeka then drove to a residence in the 6200 block of SW 26th Court.

 The Topeka Police Department Response Team and Crisis Negotiators responded to the scene and began speaking with the suspect. After nearly three hours of negotiations, the suspect surrendered himself peacefully to officers.&nbsp;Stringfield was arrested and booked into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections on requested&nbsp;charges that include Domestic Battery and Interference with Law Enforcement. 

He has previous convictions for burglary, criminal threat, battery, domestic battery and obstruction, according to the Kansas Department of Corrections and had been out of prison since November 2015.

MANHATTAN — More than 1,500 students are candidates for degrees from Kansas State University at upcoming commencement ceremonies Friday and Saturday in Manhattan and Salina. To be awarded include more than 1,250 bachelor's degrees, nearly 250 master's degrees and more than 50 doctorates. More than 200 graduation candidates are earning their degrees through distance education. Ceremonies start at 1 p.m. Friday on the Manhattan campus with the Graduate School in Bramlage Coliseum. At the ceremony, retired Army Brig. Gen. Chris King, dean emeritus of the Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, will receive an honorary doctorate and deliver the commencement address. Cheryl Harrison-Lee, Gardner, a member of the Kansas Board of Regents, will represent the board at the ceremony. Commencement for Kansas State University Polytechnic Campus in Salina will be at 7 p.m. in the Student Life Center. The speaker will be Lee Gatton, Overland Park, who worked for more than 40 years in the computer engineering field. Gatton is an alumnus of Polytechnic and served as its 2012 Alumni Fellow. Back in February of 2015, Idaho representative Vito Barbieri was listening to nearly three hours of testimony on a state bill banning doctors from prescribing any abortion-inducing medication through a new telemedicine system. Barbieri gained worldwide infamy for his anatomical ignorance when he asked if a woman could just swallow a small camera so doctors could conduct a remote gynecological exam. But that represented just one male legislator’s ignorance. Ohio has now taken first place in science stupidity by their Legislature considering Ohio HB413, a bill requiring doctors to “re-implant an ectopic pregnancy” into a woman’s uterus. A doctor who fails to do this would face charges of “abortion murder.” Such a procedure does not exist in medical science and for good reason. An ectopic pregnancy occurs when an egg is fertilized and implants outside of the body of the uterus. The Fallopian tubes are open-ended. A sperm usually fertilizes an egg and after 3–4 days of development while drifting down the Fallopian tubes, the embryo usually implants on the inside wall of the uterus. But an embryo can implant earlier alongside the Fallopian tube or even attach to the outside of an intestine. Thus the term “ectopic” refers to any such outside-the-uterine-body implantation. The further from the uterine wall, the more dangerous the pregnancy. And the less chance of survival. The uterus is a marvelous structure that provides the mother’s portion of the placenta. It is lined with blood vessels that clamp off upon childbirth so the mother does not bleed to death. Implantations outside the uterus stimulate blood vessel growth from other tissues that do not have this ability to clamp off.&nbsp;There is little chance of the fetus surviving without the special uterine placenta. And there is a very high risk of the mother bleeding to death if there is any tear.&nbsp; And finally, by the time a mother discovers she is pregnant with an ectopic pregnancy, it is not possible to surgically remove this ectopic complex and get the uterine wall to form a normal placenta. But this Ohio decision was not about science but political extremism, hoping to force a legal showdown in the Supreme Court. Writing laws counter to solid medical science is probably not the best way to win. This widespread ignorance was common in the 1800s. That is what a young nurse named Margaret Sanger faced when she attended poor women who had too many children and not enough food to feed them. Although Sanger (1879–1966) was well off, she had compassion for these women who knew that another baby meant more hunger for their family.&nbsp;There were almost no methods known to prevent pregnancy except abstinence. And Sanger worked under a male-doctor dominated healthcare system that would not allow advising married mothers to “just say no.” When Sanger wrote brochures—describing ways to prevent pregnancy and discussing gonorrhea and syphilis—and mailed them, the U.S. postal censor Anthony Comstock charged her with multiple counts of violating federal statutes for distributing “literature of illegal character.”&nbsp;Her actions changed public opinion and that era of Comstockery and postal censorship soon ended. Sanger was a proponent of birth control and founded what would become Planned Parenthood. She&nbsp;fought for decades to get contraceptives approved. And she was instrumental in getting funding for the research that led to the birth control pill. In spite of being demonized by anti-abortion groups today, Sanger was opposed to abortions. She had seen far too many deaths in her early nursing work that were due to back street abortions. In “Woman and the New Race,” Sanger wrote: “while there are cases where even the law recognizes an abortion as justifiable if recommended by a physician, I assert that the hundreds of thousands of abortions performed in America each year are a disgrace to civilization.” In her book “Family Limitation” Sanger wrote: “no one can doubt that there are times when an abortion is justifiable but they will become unnecessary when care is taken to prevent conception. This is the only cure for abortions.” Simply, with good sex education and available contraception, Sanger believed there would be no unwanted pregnancies and therefore no need for abortion. Sanger succeeded in making contraceptives legal and available. But we have failed to provide sex education, as is clearly seen by our continual production of anatomically-ignorant legislators.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; John Richard Schrock has trained biology teachers for more than 30 years in Kansas. He also has lectured at 27 universities in 20 trips to China. He holds the distinction of “Faculty Emeritus” at Emporia State University.

Education Frontlines: Anatomical ignorance

The victim posted a RING video of the theft onto the RING.com Neighbors Portal, which provided access for officers to view the video. Chaplin and two other individual suspects are seen in the video.&nbsp;On Tuesday, officers were following up on the case and located Chaplin wearing the same clothes and riding the same bicycle as seen in the video of the theft.&nbsp;Officers contacted Chaplin and she was arrested without incident. She remains<a href="https://ssc.sedgwickcounty.org/sheriffinmates/SheriffInmateDetail.aspx?nameId=6126" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"> jailed on requested</a><a href="https://ssc.sedgwickcounty.org/sheriffinmates/SheriffInmateDetail.aspx?nameId=6126" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" style="color: rgb(45, 55, 72);"> </a>charges of theft, unlawful possession of methamphetamine and outstanding warrants, according to Davidson. On Friday, officers located 32-year-old Krista Dreiling at a home in the 5000 block of East Harry.&nbsp;&nbsp;Through their investigation, Dreiling was arrested and booked into jail, and officers recovered the missing laser tag for kids set and returned it to the owner.&nbsp;The case will be presented to the City of Wichita Prosecutor's Office, according to Davidson. Police return toy allegedly taken by Kan. porch pirates

For the second time this month, police arrested Dylan Edward Wayne Upchurch, 18, of Arkansas City after he turned himself in this week, according to a media release. The latest arrest was on suspicion of one felony count each of aggravated interference with parental custody and sexual exploitation of a child. He also was arrested on suspicion of two felony counts of contributing to a child’s misconduct by sheltering or concealing a runaway, as well as one misdemeanor count each of possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana. Upchurch was booked into the Cowley County Jail in Winfield in lieu of $75,000 bond through Cowley County District Court in Arkansas City. On November 4, police arrested Upchurch on suspicion of one misdemeanor count each of contributing to a child’s misconduct, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana after police were dispatched to the 400 block of North Seventh Street for a report of a juvenile runaway. Officers located the 16-year-old girl runaway and her boyfriend, later identified as Upchurch, inside a vehicle at that address. They noted a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. Police found rolled marijuana cigarettes, green vegetation and drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle. The juvenile was taken into police protective custody. Upchurch was arrested and later released. But on Nov. 13, the same 16-year-old Arkansas City girl was reported as a runaway again. Investigators found information linking Upchurch to the most recent runaway report, as well

ABILENE -- The Dickinson County Sheriff's Department announced Friday the arrest of an Abilene teen believed to be connected to a motor vehicle accident in September. "On Thursday afternoon, members of the Dickinson County Sheriff's Department arrested Colby Mohn, 18, of Abilene, following an investigation related to a motor vehicle accident he was involved in on 09/17/2019," the sheriff's department news release stated. Mohn was booked into the Dickinson County Jail on requested charges of aggravated battery (three counts, driving under the influence of alcohol, and failure to remain at the scene of an accident, the news release stated.

Tim Myers. Responding deputies noticed a gunshot to the Hernandez body and he was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. Authorities asked for assistance and were able to locate the white vehicle in the case. On Wednesday, authorities reported 40-year-old Dustyn Joe Brown was in custody in connection with the case. He is being held on a $150,000 bond on requested charges of aggravated robbery, aggravated kidnapping and and criminal possession of a fire, according <a href="https://ssc.sedgwickcounty.org/sheriffinmates/SheriffInmateDetail.aspx?nameId=18715857" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" style="color: rgb(45, 55, 72);">to the Sedgwick County booking report.</a> Whitney Dukes, 28, arrested in connection with the case Tuesday is set for release, <a href="https://ssc.sedgwickcounty.org/sheriffinmates/SheriffInmateDetail.aspx?nameId=70924" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" style="color: rgb(45, 55, 72);">according to online jail records.</a><img src="https://media.eaglewebservices.com/public/2019/12/1575316892512.png">Armstrong -photo Sedgwick CountyOn Monday, authorities reported the arrest of Thomas Ray Armstrong, 33, and Efrain Daniel Arroyo II, both of Wichita for Aggravated Kidnapping Aggravated Robbery, and Murder in the First Degree, according to Myers. 5th suspect jailed in connection with murder, kidnapping robbery

Just before 5.a.m. Thursday, the Great Bend Police Department received a report of a stolen vehicle in the city, according to Barton County Sheriff Brian Bellendir. A Great Bend police officer located the vehicle on 10th St. and attempted to stop the Chevrolet Traverse. The vehicle fled from the police department eastbound on 10th St. reaching speeds of approximately 112 MPH. The vehicle fled east from the City of Great Bend where Barton County Sheriff’s deputies became involved in the chase. The stolen vehicle went north on Kansas 156 Highway at speeds in excess of 100 miles an hour, at times shutting off its lights and driving left of center on the roadway. The chase continued into the northeast part of Barton County crossing Kansas 4, at one point entering a field and then coming back onto the roadway. At about 5:30 AM the suspect vehicle reached Northeast 180 Road near NE. 100th Ave. where the driver lost control. As a Sheriff’s patrol car approached the vehicle, the patrol unit was intentionally rammed by the suspect vehicle. Deputies were able to block the vehicle in and take the driver into custody approximately ½ mile west of Hitschmann, Kansas, according to Bellendir. The driver identified as Stephen Lee Contrerez 32, Great Bend, was arrested and transported to the Barton County Jail where he was booked on charges of aggravated battery of a law enforcement officer, felony flee and elude of a law enforcement officer, driving with no lights when required, driving while suspended and multiple other traffic violations. The suspect was also charged by the Great Bend Police Department with the stolen vehicle case. Contrerez is being held in lieu of a $100,000 bond. The Sheriff’s office was assisted by the Great Bend Police Department, the Claflin Police Department and the Kansas Highway Patrol.

Kan. man jailed after chase at speeds over 100mph

Forrester said 33-year-old Summer Schulenberg had reportedly gone past the point of sale with $362 dollars of items.&nbsp;&nbsp;Officers found 19 while pills believed to be Alprazolam, and a small baggie of meth in the possession of Schulenberg. Schulenberg was booked into the Saline County Jail on requested charges of&nbsp;possession of opiates ,no drug tax stamp for marijuana or controlled substance,&nbsp;&nbsp;possession of drug paraphernalia, and theft.

Shoplifting leads to drug arrest

BARTON COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas felon on new charges after a drug bust in Barton County. Just before 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, police executed a narcotics search warrant at a residence located at 1200 9th Street in Great Bend, according to a media release. Upon arrival, police arrested Tiffany Wedgeworth, age 31, on a warrant for failure to appear through Great Bend Municipal Court. During a thorough search of the residence, police found methamphetamine, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia. Wedgeworth was arrested and transported to the Barton County Detention Center where she was booked in lieu of bond on the arrest warrant and multiple narcotics violations. She has four previous convictions that include drugs and for battery, according to the Kansas Department of Corrections
