A Fort Hays State University student-athlete was arrested over the weekend on suspicion of sexual battery.

Junior Efe Osaghae, St. Louis, was booked into the Ellis County Jail on Sunday on suspicion of aggravated sexual battery, aggravated burglary and criminal restraint.

He appeared in court on Monday, according to Ellis County Attorney Tom Drees, with bond set at $75,000 and a no contact order with the victim was issued.

Osaghae was subsequently released on bond.

At FHSU Osaghae competes on the wrestling and soccer teams.

Scott Cason, FHSU chief communications officer, responded to a call placed to FHSU law enforcement. Cason issued a statement.

“Fort Hays State University Police made an arrest this past Saturday in the case of a current student's alleged involvement in an act of gender-based violence,” the statement said. “The university is working closely with local law enforcement in the investigation of this case. The university does not comment on specific cases.  The safety of our students, faculty, staff, and visitors is, and will always remain our primary concern.”

It was not immediately clear after reviewing the police report where and the exact time the incident occurred. The Hays Post also was unable to determine if the victim was a student.
