A suspect stole a motorcycle overnight last week in the downtown Cozy Inn Burgers parking lot.

Between 9 p.m. on Dec. 21 and 7:22 a.m. on Dec. 22, an unknown suspect stole a black 2011 Harley Davidson FXDC SuperGlide.

According to Salina Police Department Lt. Kyle Tonniges, the victim parked their motorcycle in the 125 N. Santa Fe Ave. parking lot overnight.

"There's no suspect at this time," Tonniges said. "We're trying to get some video from downtown to see if we can figure out who stole the motorcycle."

The bike's value is $9,000, and SPD has not found any suspects. If a citizen has any information about the case, SPD has a <a href="https://www.salina-ks.gov/crimestoppers">Crimestoppers</a> tip line to provide that information.

Harley Davidson stolen from downtown last week

Early Christmas morning, a heavily-clothed suspect broke into the Rods 5 gas station in Salina and stole $1,500 in merchandise alongside an undisclosed amount of cash.

A passerby reported the burglary to the Salina Police Department at 9:20 a.m. after noticing a broken window at the store at 680 S. Phillips Ave.

"That person was in the store for about three minutes," Tonniges said. "We're trying to identify who that person is... The person was heavily clothed and masked."

According to SPD Lt. Kyle Tonniges, surveillance footage captured the suspect entering the store at 5:45 a.m. and stealing cigarettes, vapes, Swisher Sweets and the cash box.

SPD is currently investigating the burglary. The department provides an online tip submission named <a href="https://www.salina-ks.gov/crimestoppers">Crimestoppers</a> if citizens have information regarding the crime.

Raymond Brown spreads a positive message by actively participating in the betterment of his local community. Many resilient heroes work diligently behind the scenes, shoulder to shoulder with family members, neighbors and friends.&nbsp;

Citizens benefit from the countless hours these community champions spend on tasks like garbage disposal, farming, volunteering and social work.&nbsp;

One wintery morning almost 40 years ago, Raymond Brown woke up to the news that he no longer had a job just before the holiday season.

With a sudden open schedule and Christmas approaching, he decided to use his extra time to volunteer as a Salina Salvation Army Bell Ringer.

Brown grew up in New Cambria, just a few miles east of Salina. He attended Salina schools, and his family lives in the Salina area.

Today, Brown regularly greets guests at the entrance to the Salina Central Mall 37 years later, red bell in hand with a Salvation Army cap and apron.

"Some of them [bell ringers] say, 'Thanks for the donation,' but I like to socialize with them [passersby]," Brown said. "As they leave, I say, 'Thank you very much and have a good one!' that covers the day you're in and the Christmas season."

After signing up, the Salina Salvation Army asked him to volunteer the following day, which Brown said he gladly accepted.

Brown's first station was at a Food for Less store near Atwoods Home and Ranch on Broadway Boulevard, previously the Kmart in town.&nbsp;

"I didn't have any orientation or anything. I just had to use some common sense," Brown said. "There was a 'Survivor' program on TV, so I just went by it."

Every holiday season, Brown would sign back up as a bell ringer, diligently arriving for his shifts and tracking how much cash his donation kettle raised each year.

Not only does Brown's volunteering go toward a community cause, but he said he enjoys socializing and sharing smiles and conversations with everyone who passes by.

"Somebody's gonna have a good Christmas," Brown said.

Salina Salvation Army Lt. Luke Hursh said he enjoys working with Brown for the fundraiser every year and views him as an excellent example for other volunteers for the cause.

"We are the Salvation Army, yes, but we're an extending sort of arm to that facility that has allowed us at that facility," Hursh said. "Raymond is a great example of that because every time you go in, he still has a smile on his face."

Throughout the years, Brown said he has volunteered in all conditions and prioritizes good health before each shift.

Many bell ringers often stand in cold and harsh weather, so Hursh said he encourages volunteers to wear warm coats, gloves and hats during shifts.&nbsp;

Brown said he uses "common sense" when bell ringing to stay safe.

"When it gets cold in that lobby, use common sense and get in there," Brown said. "Take ten and get warmed up."

Hursh said even though Brown reliably donates his time to the fundraiser, he also contributes cash to the significant goal each year.

This year, Salina Salvation Army set its fundraiser goal at $95,000, and on Dec. 7, they were behind.&nbsp;

"Last year at this point, we were at about $35, $40,000. This year, we're about 24,000," Hursh said.

On Dec. 21, the Salvation Army fundraised $65,000, $30,000 short of the goal.&nbsp;

Even though the last day to bell ring was Saturday, Dec. 23, Hursh said generous community members can still <a href="https://donate.salarmymokan.org/campaign/love-beyond-salina/c405410">donate to the cause online</a>.

Salina Post's Community Champions Vol. 4 — Raymond Brown

Instead of a 50-degree Christmas like anticipated, Kansas may see a wintery Christmas this year, with snow probabilities for Salina hovering at 64%.

Much cooler air than initially forecasted will arrive behind a cold front on Monday, allowing rain to change to snow across central and northern Kansas.

Christmas Day has an increasing probability of snow accumulating over northern Kansas, likely into Tuesday morning.

Road conditions may become slick, especially along and north of Interstate 70.

Christmas this year will be warmer than most, but not the warmest on record. According to Wichita National Weather Service Meteorologist Kelly Butler, the forecast shows a soggy and breezy holiday.

On Christmas Eve, Salina has a 50% to 60% chance of rain, which will dip to a 20% to 30% chance the next morning and throughout most of the day.

"It'll be in the upper 50s, potentially low 60s, we've got 61 officially in the forecast right now on Christmas Eve," Butler said. "That's going to come down to 52 for the high on Christmas Day. Between Christmas Eve and Christmas, we have a low in the Salina area around 40 to upper 30s."

The temperature record high for Christmas is almost 70 degrees, so this year does not depart drastically from the ordinary. Butler said average temperatures for Kansas on Christmas day hover around 40 degrees.

Butler said there is no snow in the forecast either, but temperatures on the holiday may vary a few degrees from NWS' projections.

UPDATED: NWS Wichita 2023 Christmas Day weather forecast

The Saline County Commission approved multiple line items during its regular meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 19, including a new RON or "Remain Overnight" flight project at the Salina Airport, a new fire truck for Rural Fire District 1 and multiple ARPA fund adjustments for 2024.

All five Saline County Commissioners were present for the final meeting of 2024 and primarily discussed significant matters for 2024. 

Commissioners began the meeting with the consent agenda, which included items like a new beverage license for Don Toros Kitchen, LLC, and three new grant agreements, which commissioners unanimously approved. 

One line item, a Saline County Health Department Development Grant contract with the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, supports local efforts in hiring, recruitment, retention and organizational and infrastructure improvements.

Commissioners approved the $138,434.66 agreement 5-0.

The commission tackled six action items on Tuesday and unanimously agreed to five. Questions arose from commissioners while discussing a new air service incentive at the Salina Regional Airport.

Before the COVID-19 pandemic, SkyWest Airlines operated overnight flights from Salina Regional Airport, but due to decreased demand, SkyWest ended its overnight flight agreement with Salina Regional.

The new incentive would give SkyWest a "jumpstart" for the overnight flight program to return to town. The Salina Airport Authority, Saline County and the City of Salina would provide $900,000 collectively to restart the program.

Tim Rogers, the Salina Airport Authority executive director, proposed the county grant $400,000 to the Authority for this project. The City of Salina agreed to fund $400,000 of the incentive package while the Authority would cover the last $100,000 of the proposal.

"SkyWest has indicated this is acceptable, that Salina initiates the nonstop Salina to Denver RON flight as soon as possible," Rogers said. "That flight will operate for the duration of the airline's three-year Salina-USDOTEAS contract."

Rogers said that through research done by Airport Authority Air Service Consultant Gary Foss, providing overnight flights would bring an additional 8,000 passengers to Salina Regional each year.

Joe Hay, Saline County Commissioner of District Five, commented on the proposal, raising concern for the community about SkyWest's dealings.

"I still don't see why," Hay said. "SkyWest was here — why can't we stand on our own merits and have to give somebody an incentive to return to a place that was profitable for him before?"

Hay referenced other projects that fell through with SkyWest, like a regular flight route to Houston and a SkyWest maintenance hub that the Airport Authority built incentives for, and worried that this would be another "dangling carrot" situation for the county.

The concern doesn't stem from lost faith in the Airport Authority but from SkyWest's business dealings.

"This is the third time that we've they come back," Hay said. "Now we're back trying to get it for another, so I'm sorry, I just can't support this."

Renee Duxler, the president/CEO of the Salina Area Chamber of Commerce, expressed that the chamber supported the incentive.

After a few more comments from commissioners, they raised a vote, which Hay cast the only dissenting vote, and the incentive passed 4-1.

The commission passed five more action items, including a new freezer for the Senior Center, a new fire truck for Rural Fire District 1, 2024 Rural Fire District Board appointments, the county's Natural Gas agreement for 2024 and the movement of ARPA allocations for projects in the new year.

The Saline County Health Department provided an update at the end of the meeting, providing information covering the last quarter of the year from September to December.

The Saline County Commission will not meet next Tuesday due to the holiday, but it will meet again for the first time next year on Tuesday, Jan. 2.

"Merry Christmas, and I wish everyone a joyous and happy and prosperous and healthy New Year," said Saline County Commission Chairman Robert Vidrickson.

Saline County Commission prepares for 2024 during final meeting of the year

A Salina woman sought help by running through the streets of town after receiving multiple injuries from 26-year-old resident Deshawn Gosha.

According to Salina Police Department Capt. James Feldman, officers reported to the 1000 block of Johnstown Avenue at around 6 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 2, where they located a 31-year-old Salina woman yelling for help.

A Salina woman sought help by running through the streets of town after experiencing domestic abuse from 26-year-old resident Deshawn Gosha.

"During the investigation, she did have some minor injuries and would later be transported to the hospital for evaluation," Feldman said.&nbsp;

The woman reported that between 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 19, and just before 6 a.m. on Dec. 20, a known subject battered her throughout the evening.&nbsp;

Feldman said the suspect, Gosha, forcefully took the victim's cellphone and bag while battering her. The victim also reported that Gosha threatened her with a weapon and choked her.

SPD officers located Gosha later that day and arrested him for aggravated robbery, criminal threat, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and two counts of aggravated battery.

At around 6 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 20, a 19-year-old Salina woman reported her 2013 Ford Focus stolen from the Kwik Shop at 2003 S. Ohio St. after leaving it running and unlocked outside the business.

"[She] went into the store, and then a white male exited the store and ended up stealing the vehicle," said SPD Capt. James Feldman. "An officer located it in the area of 657 Fairdale at the Kwik Shop and attempted to stop the vehicle. A pursuit occurred that led out into the county."

Feldman said due to the danger of pursuing someone on a dirt road, the officer decided to terminate the chase. The estimated cost of the vehicle is $7,000.

SPD lost track of the stolen vehicle after terminating the chase, but yesterday, law enforcement authorities in Dickinson and Ottawa counties contacted SPD with news of the car thief's arrest. Feldman said the Kansas Highway Patrol was also involved.

On Wednesday, Dec. 20, at an undisclosed time, law enforcement in Junction City spotted the stolen car and pursued the vehicle into rural Dickinson County.

Feldman said the law enforcement authorities involved in the chase did not provide much information on the pursuit. KHP troopers arrested 31-year-old Salina resident Bradley Jameson for multiple traffic violations, flee and elude and two counts of felony theft.

Feldman said the status of the stolen vehicle is unknown to SPD since KHP is handling the car.

After a nearly unanimous decision, Salina City Commissioners voted to make the city’s newly updated website the official “newspaper” of Salina, with additional notices to be published in Salina311. 

Monday’s vote to move legal notices online was widely anticipated by the public following the commission's decision to “charter out” of the Kansas Statute back in Aug. By chartering out, the city is able to list its own city website as the official city “newspaper.” 

Salina Assistant City Manager Shawn Henessee said although Kansas statutes require a designated newspaper, the criteria are inconsistent.  

“There are certain criteria that have to be met for an official city newspaper. However, those statutes are not uniform, and therefore the city had the option of adopting a charter ordinance,” Henessee said. “That charter ordinance was adopted, and because the 60-day protest period has expired. The city has the option of designating its website to be the official city newspaper.”

City Manager Mike Schrage said because of the lack of uniformity, commissioners would have the option to designate a print publication for certain notices.&nbsp;

“If it is required to be published in the official city newspaper that will be published on the website and if it's required to be published in either newspaper of general circulation or just generally published, the city would pay to publish that in a print media of your choosing,” Schrage said. 

Historically, print notices from the city were published in the Salina Journal. For cost-saving reasons, the city decided to explore switching from print to digital publishing. 

According to Henessee, The Salina Journal charged the City of Salina $14.38 per inch as of Aug. 1. Salina311 charges only $6 per inch. Henessee said the city paid $37,258 in 2023, $42,000 in 2022 and $53,600 in 2021 for notices.  

The resolution ultimately passed 4-1 with Commissioner Karl Ryan voting against the resolution.  

“I agree with making the official city newspaper, the city's website, but when it comes to the choice of the two [Salina311 vs Journal], I prefer the traditional paper,” Ryan said.  “The Journal is published six days a week and I feel like the content of The Salina Journal is in a more traditional journalistic style where both sides of an issue are examined.”  

Commissioner Greg Lenkiewicz, who voted in favor of the resolution, said he had nothing against the Salina Journal. 

“What we're publishing would be available free to the public on Salina311. It’s locally owned, and it has a lot more local news that resonates with me a bit more,” Lenkiewicz said. “I grew up with The Salina Journal. I mean, I have nothing against the publication. It just is not the publication that it used to be.”

Salina City Commissioners name its own website as official 'newspaper'

During the early morning hours on Tuesday, a Salina man drove through a residential fence and into a house after experiencing a medical emergency behind the wheel.

According to Salina Police Department Sgt. Chad McCary, the driver lost control of his maroon 2012 Ford Fusion around 6:45 a.m. at the 300 Block of South Ohio Street while traveling southbound. 

The driver then struck an Evergy power pole, partially destroyed a fence and struck a residence at 1101 Stack Ave. When the driver hit the power pole, it ripped electrical lines from the house and a neighboring home.

"He just had a minor injury to his ankle," McCary said. "It looks like he was transported to the hospital, but it was probably related to the medical problem versus the actual injury."

The crash caused significant damage to the vehicle and partially destroyed the residence's fence, but the house did not receive much damage. 

McCary said officers were unsure if anyone was home at the time of the wreck with the house, but officers did not report any injuries from the home.

For a community with more than 150 years of history, many see Brookville as not an old, dusty town but a piece of the Kansas timeline and home to generations of families.

In 2021, about a dozen community members teamed up and began the Brookville Community Foundation, or BCF, to continue the tiny town's legacy.

"A few of the community members got together and saw a need for the community to start doing things for itself and making some improvements," said BCF Board President Jessica Kindlesparger. "I think, honestly, the community is so devoted to staying."

The community-led coalition also organized with the Greater Salina Community Foundation, utilizing many of their resources to start the group.

BCF has already spent almost $250,000 through new welcome signs, community clean-ups and the Ell-Saline Football Scoreboard.&nbsp;

The next project's first phase would more than double the foundation's impact on the community.

Situated on West Old Highway 40, also known as Noble Street, the Rose Walter Park greets many Brookville visitors on their way into town.&nbsp;

According to Kindlesparger, BCF worked with the City of Brookville to require the property from Union Pacific Railroad last year, and preparations for the project immediately began.

Due to the project's large scale, Kindlesparger said the board decided to split the project into three phases, with phase one starting with swathing improvements to the restrooms and current park equipment.

BCF Vice President Jenni Jones said the board did not want to start the project without input from the community first.

"We formed a small park committee where several moms that have children of all ages — college, high school, middle age, and then very young — gave us their input, and we took that back and decided exactly what we wanted," Jones said.

The committee first reviewed the park's current furnishings and quickly identified the absence of critical aspects for a community space.&nbsp;

Kindlesparger said most of these issues stem from a lack of upgrades for nearly a decade and the ownership of the park grounds.

"That park is just in dire need of an update. We have some real safety and accessibility issues," Kindlesparger said. "There was some equipment donated probably 10 years ago, which is wonderful, and we want to continue to use that equipment, but we really need to update."

After identifying the upgrades for the park, the cost climbed to $255,000 to include the new construction and equipment.

Phase one of the Brookville Park Project includes new ADA-compliant restrooms, inclusive preschool play equipment, new swings, improvements for the basketball court, sidewalks, street lights and a safety fence between the park and the highway.

The second phase plans a future splash pad in the park, and the third would construct a large community center for residents to use. BCF will determine the cost of these subsequent phases after completing the first.

"We're fundraising," Kindlesparger said. "We're applying for grants right now. Plans have been drawn, and we've got architectural renderings."

Currently, BCF has raised $50,000 for the project as a match for the first $50,000 to the project. Community members who want to donate to the project can purchase a memorial brick or make donations to BCF directly by visiting its <a href="https://www.facebook.com/brookvillecommunityfoundationfund">Facebook page online</a>.

Brookville Community Foundation aims to upgrade town park next

Fragments of colorful glass littered the paint-stained tables of the Salina Art Center Warehouse for the last few weeks while students chipped and shaped glass for mosaic designs.

Art Center Director of Education Darren Morawitz led a glass mosaic art class in December, encouraging students to learn from the unique art medium for their own practices.

"I think every medium benefits the next medium," Morawitz said. "If you're a drawer, you can apply drawing skills to the mosaic, and mosaic skills help you break things down into shapes and become a better drawer."

Morawitz said he enjoys practicing multiple mediums as an artist and found that it helped him continue improving his art.

"All those little intricate plays back and forth between mediums help you grow as a creative person," Morawitz said.

The Art Center Warehouse regularly hosts art classes, where local artists can learn or teach any medium from ceramics to collage.

Morawitz usually works with two-dimensional art mediums but enjoys learning and teaching various creative mediums. He began the class by introducing the mosaic design process on Dec. 7.

Glass mosaics are made by placing glass pieces onto another canvas and then using grout or paste medium to lock those pieces in place.

The class met once a week for three weeks, and on the second week, students and Morawitz were cutting out glass shapes and lining them up to the wooden canvas.

A student participating in the class, Kristy Yenkey, is a fabric artist and decided to sign up for the mosaic class to learn some new techniques.

Yenkey decided to make a mosaic piece from leftover scraps of cut glass, challenging herself to use the elements uniquely.

"I'm enjoying the design process the most," Yenkey said. "I had this all laid out last time, and it's a little different because it shifted in flight, so I'm having fun with it now."

Yenkey said she didn't mind that the pieces shifted since it brought a new perspective to her art, which she loves as part of the artistic process.

"When you try different things, it's really a source of happiness," Yenkey said.

Her pieces of glass clattered as she placed them on the board, preparing the final design for the grouting phase the following week. 

She encouraged other artists to try new types of art at any point in their careers and to participate in their local art communities.

"Sometimes, a blank canvas is difficult, but creating is a wonderful process," Yenkey said. "Just expose yourself to all sorts of avenues of art. It's not always an easy step, but maybe just allow yourself the freedom to pursue something different."

 </figure>The class met once a week for three weeks, and on the second week, students and Morawitz were cutting out glass shapes and lining them up to the wooden canvas.A student participating in the class, Kristy Yenkey, is a fabric artist and decided to sign up for the mosaic class to learn some new techniques.Yenkey decided to make a mosaic piece from leftover scraps of cut glass, challenging herself to use the elements uniquely."I'm enjoying the design process the most," Yenkey said. "I had this all laid out last time, and it's a little different because it shifted in flight, so I'm having fun with it now."<figure>

 </figure>Yenkey said she didn't mind that the pieces shifted since it brought a new perspective to her art, which she loves as part of the artistic process."When you try different things, it's really a source of happiness," Yenkey said.Her pieces of glass clattered as she placed them on the board, preparing the final design for the grouting phase the following week. She encouraged other artists to try new types of art at any point in their careers and to participate in their local art communities."Sometimes, a blank canvas is difficult, but creating is a wonderful process," Yenkey said. "Just expose yourself to all sorts of avenues of art. It's not always an easy step, but maybe just allow yourself the freedom to pursue something different."

Trying something new — Salina Art Center hosts glass mosaic class for first time

Every year, parents worldwide aim to fill the base of their family Christmas tree with colorful wrapped gifts for a memorable Christmas morning. 

Many parents stress getting their children gifts for Christmas, and in Salina, hundreds of families found some relief when budgeting for this holiday season.

Over the weekend, Voice of 99KG Shane McClintock hosted the annual Shane McClintock's Toyathon at Walmart in town and camped overnight until the community donated more than 5,000 toys.

"Anybody can donate food, pasta, or toys, too, but what's the focus behind it?" McClintock said. "I think there has to be a genuine intent that people have to believe in... so I think it's just unique."

The group began at 11 a.m. Saturday, hoisting up the large signs to inform visitors about the Toyathon's progress. 

McClintock, U.S. Marine Sgt. Brandon Uhrich and 910KINA Program Director Chris Cadle, also known as "Beaver" on 99KG, would count the toys and update the signs every hour. By 9 p.m., the group had raised more than half their goal on Saturday with 3,227 toys.

After counting the toys each hour, McClintock said the group would then load the toys into a semi provided by Doug Bradley Trucking to transport to local charity groups.

The Toyathon donates to <a href="https://www.bbbssalina.org/">Big Brothers Big Sisters of Salina</a>, <a href="https://capsofsalina.org/">Child Advocacy Parenting Services</a>, <a href="https://ccnks.org/">Catholic Charities</a>, <a href="http://dvack.org/?page_id=26">Domestic Violence Association of Central Kansas</a>, <a href="https://www.ashbyhouse.org/">The Ashby House</a>, the <a href="https://www.unitedwaysalina.org/">Salina Area United Way</a> and a few other local organizations.

McClintock began the Toyathon a decade ago, bringing the idea from Wichita to Salina when he started as a personality at 99KG. He said one of the most significant impacts for local agencies is the volume of toys the Toyathon provides.

"If agencies put on a toy drive, they'll probably get 30, 40 toys. We'll give them 1,000," McClintock said. "If they do a toy drive, they'll seriously get maybe 50 toys, and we'll give them to truckload — it's just a huge."

One of the agencies that receives toys from the donation event, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Salina, BBBS, can give toys to each of the families they serve in Saline County and often donate more to community members outside the organization.

Amanda Otto, CEO of BBBS, said after each of the 200 children involved with the agency gets a gift or a few, they open up their toy donation to all community members.

"The generous response that the Toyathon gets allows us to open that up to everybody and not have to select and choose which families in our program get to come grab a toy," Otto said. "We open up the Toyathon to where if we have a family that's not in our program that we know is struggling and just doesn't know where to go, we absolutely let them come pick out a toy because that's what it's all about."

Otto said BBBS does not budget each year for toys because the community response to the Toyathon allows the agency to spend the money on other community programs or help for families.

"We don't have any funding or budget line items that we designate for the toy giveaway," Otto said. "It's all based on the toys and the large number of donated toys during this time. Otherwise, we wouldn't be able to do this."

The impact of the Toyathon spreads to not only the children of the community but also the parents, who find some relief during the stressful holiday season thanks to the Toyathon.

Cadle said that the donations impact parents just as much as the children on Christmas morning, with families sharing the season's joy.

"Getting a present is one thing, but giving that present — when your kid opens up a present, and you know you got it for them, and their face lights up, that is amazing," Cadle said. "I think that might be more so why I do it nowadays is not only for the kid but for the parents too because now their parents get to see their kid have that moment."

This week, local agencies will spread the toys across the community, bringing a bit of holiday joy to each family they help. The Toyathon distributed 5,162 toys to local organizations this year.

"I think it's something that we all take for granted," Otto said. "To be able to bring that sense of joy and that smile on the kid's face — I hope everybody that donates one toy really understands that that act did bring a smile to a kid's face."

Shane McClintock's Toyathon donates 5,000 toys to community

On Sunday afternoon between 3 and 4 p.m., a suspect stole a white 2018 Honda Accord from the Club Carwash at 655 S. Broadway Blvd. Later that same day, Salina Police Department officers found and arrested the car thief.

According to the Salina Police Department, the owner left their keys in the $28,000 vehicle and found it missing after 4 p.m.

The car owner reported the incident to SPD, and after reviewing surveillance footage, officers identified the thief as 42-year-old Salina resident Tony Nordahl.

"Just before six o'clock that same night, an officer was working a traffic collision at 1200 East Crawford when the [stolen] vehicle pulled up next to her," said SPD Capt. James Feldman. "The officer went to confront him, he did not follow instructions and ended up taking off running."

Feldman said the officer pursued Nordhal on foot and eventually deployed a stun gun that was ineffective. More SPD officers responded to the incident and eventually arrested the suspect after a short struggle.

Officers arrested Nordhal for felony theft of a vehicle, two counts of battery on a law enforcement officer, obstruction of law enforcement and DUI.
