MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) — Arthur Kaluma had a career-high 28 points and 10 rebounds as Kansas State beat No. 25 BYU 84-74 on Saturday.

Kaluma was one of five players to score in double-figure for Kansas State (15-11, 5-8 Big 12), which had lost seven of its last eight games. Tylor Perry scored 16 points, David N'Guessan and Cam Carter each had 12, and Will McNair 11.

Jaxson Robinson scored 15 points to lead BYU (19-7, 7-6), which has gone 3-3 in its last six games. Noah Waterman and Spencer Johnson each scored 12 points, and Foussey Traore added 10.

The Wildcats started the second half with a run to retake a double-digit lead. They built a 61-47 advantage with 12:47 left in the game and extended their lead to as many as 16 points before BYU tried to rally late.

Kansas State scored the first eight points of the game and led 12-2 with 16:44 left in the first half. Kansas State extended its lead to 16-4 before BYU used a 10-0 run to close the gap.

The Cougars managed to tie the game at 28 with 6:35 left in the half, but never took a lead. The Wildcats led 42-38 at the break, helped by Kaluma's 16 points and six rebounds. Perry added 10 points.

BYU was slowed by 40.8% (29 for 71) shooting overall, including 20% (6 for 30) from 3-point distance.

BYU: Like a lot of teams in the Big 12, BYU struggles on the road. The Cougars fell to 2-6 in conference road games.

Kansas State: Even with the victory, the Wildcats need a late-season run to earn a return to the NCAA Tournament.

Kansas State: Host West Virginia on Monday.

(AP) — The bronze Jackie Robinson cleats that were left behind when a statue of the first player to break Major League Baseball’s color barrier was stolen from a Kansas park are being donated to the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum.

Thieves cut the statue off at its ankles&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/jackie-robinson-baseball-statue-stolen-beea370b17079ad30092affe6aaea3c1" target="_blank">last month,</a>&nbsp;leaving only the feet behind at McAdams Park in Wichita. About 600 children play there in a youth baseball league called League 42. It is named after&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/hub/jackie-robinson" target="_blank">Robinson’</a>&nbsp;s uniform number with the Brooklyn Dodgers, with whom he broke the major leagues’ color barrier in 1947.

Bob Lutz, executive director of the Little League nonprofit that commissioned the sculpture, said the museum in Kansas City, Missouri, was “enthusiastic” about incorporating the cleats into its display on Robinson. 

The display also includes a damaged&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/mlb-sports-travel-georgia-baseball-29523970d7e8dfeedd87aa468b614c49" target="_blank">plaque</a>&nbsp;honoring Robinson. The sign was erected in 2001 outside the birthplace of Robinson near Cairo, Georgia. Community members there discovered last year that someone had shot the plaque multiple times.&nbsp;&nbsp;

“It’s kind of sad in its own way, that we’re building this little shrine of Jackie Robinson stuff that has been defaced or damaged,” said Bob Kendrick, the president of the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum. “But it gives us an opportunity to speak to who he was, the characteristics and value of what he represented, even in the face of adversity. And that message really never goes out of style.”

Robinson played for the Kansas City Monarchs of the Negro Leagues before joining the Brooklyn Dodgers, paving the way for generations of Black American ballplayers. He’s considered not only a sports legend but also&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/mlb-entertainment-sports-los-angeles-baseball-d73b75a6965310bfd087c165e93dc0c6" target="_blank">a civil rights icon</a>. Robinson died in 1972.

Fire crews found burned remnants of his statue five days&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/jackie-robinson-baseball-statue-stolen-45c08bbbd29322c05e6136a67f687459" target="_blank">after the theft</a>&nbsp;while responding to a trash can fire at another park about 7 miles (11.27 kilometers) away. One man was charged this month in the theft. Police said there was no evidence it was a hate-motivated crime, but rather the intent was to sell the metal for scrap.

Donations poured in after the theft, totaling around $300,000, Lutz said. The amount includes a $100,000 gift from Major League Baseball.

Lutz, whose friend, the artist John Parsons, made the statue before his death, said the mold is still viable and anticipated that a replacement can be erected within a matter of months. He estimated it would cost around $45,000 to replace the statue itself. While there also will be security and lighting expenses, that leaves lots of extra money that can be used to enhance some of the league’s programming and facilities, Lutz said.

HILLSBORO - The Kansas Wesleyan men's basketball team must have been tired of hearing about how tired they might be.

Playing their third game in five days the Coyotes quickly brushed aside any concerns about fatigue and did so in impressive fashion.

They shot 61 percent from the field including a sizzling 57 percent from beyond 3-point and reached the century mark for the first time this season in a 100-72 Kansas Conference rout of Tabor on Wednesday night.

It was their third consecutive victory, the 20th&nbsp;this season (20-7) and kept them tied for second with Southwestern in the conference standings at 17-4. A win over York in the regular season finale on Senior Night Saturday inside Mabee Arena would give KWU the No. 2 seed in the KCAC tournament that begins next week.

It also was Wesleyan's third consecutive season of 20-plus victories.

"I think the best part tonight is we got to rest some guys," KWU coach&nbsp;<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/7632acbf-dd2e-4af9-b669-69e5805ea2f5?elinkdata=5831" target="_blank">Anthony Monson</a>&nbsp;said with a laugh on his postgame radio show. "We've been running guys 35-plus minutes.

"We didn't practice (Tuesday). We just watched for about 45 minutes and got them out of there."

The Coyotes were 36 of 59 from the field for the game, 8 of 14 from long distance, 20 of 23 at the foul line and outrebounded the Bluejays 34-23.

"It's nice to be able to play your best basketball at the end of the year. I think we're getting close to that," Monson said.

KWU took control of the game in the first half. Trailing 8-5 the Coyotes embarked on a 20-5 run that gave them a 25-13 advantage with 6:03 left in the half.

Leading 39-30 at the break they opened the second half with a 10-3 surge and later went on a 12-2 run that made it 74-44 with 10:19 left, the rally culminating with five&nbsp;<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/b34744e1-d10d-4dd2-83cc-471121a4dbcc?elinkdata=5831" target="_blank">Caden Hale</a>&nbsp;free throws after three technical fouls were called on the Bluejays, leading to the ejection of head coach Matt Warren.

KWU led by as many as 32 points (80-48) with eight minutes left and reached the 100-point plateau on&nbsp;<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/67e4fe5b-4f39-4403-a275-8e4182cb7bb0?elinkdata=5831" target="_blank">Jaylen Peterson's</a>&nbsp;basket with seven seconds left.

Sixteen Coyotes played in the game with 11 reaching the scoring column - the reserves accounting for 40 points.

"It was a good chance to get everybody involved, get some guys in the game that would never get in," Monson said. "It was a lot of fun."

Monson was pleased with his team performance Wednesday and with the way the season has transpired so far.

"I'm really proud of these guys," he said. "There was a lot of pressure on them to perform this season and I think they've done a great job. Now we've got one more to go (in the regular season) and it's (KCAC) tournament time."

Jack Voth scored 21 and Jaiden Miller 18 for Tabor (11-16, 8-13 KCAC).

Saturday's game tips off at 7 p.m. York (11-16, 9-12 KCAC) defeated Friends 63-59 Wednesday in York, Nebraska. KWU defeated York 85-59 on January 10 in York.

Coyotes dominate Tabor in final regular season road trip 100-72

MANHATTAN, Kan.&nbsp;–&nbsp;Clint Brown, a veteran college football coach who has spent the last two seasons as an offensive quality control coach on the Kansas State staff, has been promoted to the role of Director of Roster Management, while&nbsp;Taylor Wenger, a football operations assistant in 2022 and 2023, has been promoted to assistant director of football operations, head coach&nbsp;Chris Klieman&nbsp;announced Wednesday.

In his role, Brown will oversee the football recruiting staff as he manages the composition of the football roster and, in consultation with Klieman and the assistant coaches, will determine the needs for future teams, as well as develop a strategy to retain current student-athletes and attain prospective student-athletes.

“Clint has been a vital member of our staff since his arrival and has played a big part in the overall success of our program,” Klieman said. “With recruiting, the transfer portal, NIL, and overall roster management becoming more and more of a daily function, we wanted to identify an experienced person who was familiar with our program and culture. Clint fits that perfectly, and I am excited for his new role and continued impact on our football student-athletes.”

Brown came to K-State prior to the 2022 season and has helped the Wildcats earn a combined 19-8 record, a 2022 Big 12 Championship and a 2023 Pop-Tarts Bowl victory.

“I am appreciative of Coach Klieman for giving me an opportunity to join the K-State Football staff two years ago, and during that time my family and I have been heavily invested in the culture of the program and the Manhattan community,” Brown said. “This new role will help facilitate Kansas State recruiting while retaining elite talent. With the evolving and ever-changing landscape of college football, I am excited to meet these new challenges head on and enact Coach Klieman’s vision for the program moving forward.”

Prior to his time in Manhattan, Brown spent the previous three seasons as the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at Abilene Christian where he tutored a pair of defenders to All-America honors in 2019, and, over his three seasons in Abilene, he saw five different defenders pick up all-conference accolades.

Brown went to Abilene Christian following a 10-year run on the staff at South Dakota State, including the final six as the program’s sole defensive coordinator after working the first four years as a co-defensive coordinator. Over his 10 years in Brookings, Brown helped the Jackrabbits earn a combined 83-44 record, including a 54-25 mark in the Missouri Valley Football Conference, while they reached the FCS Playoffs in eight of his 10 years on staff.

A native of Arlington, Nebraska, Brown played football at Nebraska and was a member of the Cornhuskers’ 1994 national championship team. He began his collegiate coaching career as a student assistant for the Cornhuskers during the spring of 1995, and later that year he coached the outside linebackers at Nebraska Wesleyan, then spent the 1996 season as a graduate assistant at Nebraska-Omaha.

Brown spent two more seasons as a graduate assistant at New Mexico State, working with the linebackers in 1997 and the secondary in 1998. While in Las Cruces he completed a master’s of arts degree in curriculum and instruction.

Brown’s time in Manhattan is his second stint in the state of Kansas having served as defensive coordinator and assistant head coach at Bethel College from 2000 to 2003. Following his time at Bethel, Brown returned to New Mexico State in 2004 to coach the Aggies’ safeties and special teams. He also served as academic coordinator.

Brown and his wife, Stephanie, have one daughter, Ava.

Wenger, a native of Glidden, Iowa, has worked closely with Director of Football Operations&nbsp;Kacey Feldkamp&nbsp;the last two seasons after obtaining her undergraduate degree from the University of Iowa in 2020 and graduate degree in 2022. In her role, Wenger assists with team travel, gameday logistics, camps and clinics, team organization and daily player operations.

K-State Football Announces Two Promotions

MANHATTAN, Kansas –&nbsp;K-State women’s basketball head coach Jeff Mittie has been named as one of 15 candidates for the 2024 Werner Ladder Naismith Women’s Coach of the Year Late Season Watch List presented by AXIA Time in an announcement on Wednesday.

Mittie is the second K-State women’s basketball head coach in the program’s 56 seasons of action to earn consideration for Naismith Women’s Coach of the Year honors, as Deb Patterson was a three-time finalist for the honor in 2002, 2003 and 2005.

K-State has achieved an overall record of 22-4 this season, which included a 14-game winning streak from December 1, 2023, to Jan. 31, 2024. Among its 22 victories are four against Associated Press (AP) top-25 foes.

The Wildcats have improved upon its 2022-23 overall win total by three victories and its Big 12 record by six wins with four regular season contests remaining.

With its success on the court this season, the Wildcats achieved the program’s highest ranking in the Mittie era (2014-present), as the team was ranked second in the nation in both the AP and Coaches polls in the same week for the first time in program history. It was the highest ranking for the program in the AP poll since Nov. 25, 2002, when K-State was ranked second.

According to Stats Perform, K-State was the first women’s program since the start of the AP poll in 1976 to go from unranked in the preseason to either No. 1 or No. 2 in the same season.

Since making its poll debut on Nov. 20 this season, K-State has been ranked for 14 consecutive weeks. This is the longest consecutive streak for K-State since being ranked for the entirety of the 2004-05 season.

Aiding the team’s performance this season has been one of the top defenses in the nation. K-State enters Wednesday’s game as the Big 12 leaders in scoring defense (56.0 ppg). The Wildcats lead the league and are seventh in the nation in field goal percentage defense (.350) and 3-point FG percentage defense (.252). K-State has held 19 opponents to 60 points or less this season (19-0).

K-State’s Mittie Named to Naismith Women’s Coach of the Year Late Season List

KANSAS CITY (AP0 —Eric Hosmer announced his retirement from baseball Wednesday following a 13-year career that included winning four Gold Gloves and helping lead Kansas City to victory in the 2015 World Series.

Hosmer, 34, was released by the Chicago Cubs on May 25 after hitting .234 with two home runs in 31 games. The first baseman decided not to pursue any other playing opportunities.

“You have to be 110% committed and doing what is necessary both physically and mentally to play at the major league level and I reached a point where I wasn’t there anymore,” Hosmer said. “I’m very satisfied with my career. I feel like I accomplished a lot, was around a lot of great people and have a lot of good stories to tell.”

Hosmer will begin telling those stories on air after partnering with former minor league teammate Anthony Seratelli to form MoonBall Media, which is launching a podcast called “Diggin’ Deep.” Hosmer will be one of the show’s hosts.

“Now that the playing days are over, I feel like I have so many fun stories that I want to give back,” Hosmer said.

Kansas City selected Hosmer third overall in the 2008 amateur draft and he made his major league debut three years later. He spent seven seasons with the Royals before signing an eight-year, $144 million contract with San Diego before the 2018 season.

Hosmer played five seasons for the Padres before being traded to Boston in 2022, then finishing up with the Cubs last year. He had a .276 career batting average and 198 home runs.

Hosmer was named the MVP in his lone All-Star Game appearance in 2016.

Sacred Heart played its final regular season games on Tuesday and came away with a doubleheader sweep of Ellsworth heading into substate.

Sacred Heart girls 58, Ellsworth 42

In the opener of the doubleheader, Sacred Heart took its biggest lead in the first quarter at 10-6, but an 8-0 run by Ellsworth put the Bearcats on top heading into the second period. The Lady Knights answered with a 13-2 run of their own and led 27-19 at halftime. 

Ellsworth would play from behind for the remainder of the game&nbsp;as the lead was increased to 45-28 after three quarters and the Lady Knights got the win on Senior Night by a 58-42 score.

Skylar Douglas led the Lady Knights with 16 points. Katie Weiss and Adelyn Lee added 14 points apiece.&nbsp;

Sacred Heart ends the regular season with a 13-7 overall record and 5-5 in the NCAA league.

Sacred Heart boys 41, Ellsworth 38

Sacred Heart held a slim 3-2 lead early in the game, but once they reclaimed the advantage later in the game, they wouldn't trail again. 

Much like the first meeting between the two teams, Ellsworth was hot from the field right off the bat and led 20-11 after the opening eight minutes. 

The Bearcats and Knights combined for just six second-quarter points as Ellsworth was held without a field goal for over eight minutes of game time going back to late in the opening quarter. However, Sacred Heart only mustered two field goals in response as the score was 22-15 at halftime.

A 15-5 third quarter Sacred Heart run finally put the Knights back on top 30-27 heading into the final period. Ellsworth tied the score twice in the fourth quarter but wasn't able to get over the hump and reclaim the lead. 

The Bearcats had a chance to tie the score at the end of regulation, but couldn't convert on their final possession as the Knights held on for a 41-38 Senior Night win.

Max Erlich led the Knights with 14 points. Will Tuttle added eight off the bench.&nbsp;Sacred Heart finishes the regular season 17-3 overall and 7-3 in the NCAA league.

Both Sacred Heart teams will host opening round games as part of the eight-team field of the 2A substate hosted by Wabaunsee. 

The Lady Knights drew the 2nd-seed in their bracket and will face 7th-seeded Lincoln on Monday night. 

The Sacred Heart boys won a coin flip with Bennington to claim the top-seed in their eight-team field. The Knights will face the 8th-seeded Republic County Buffaloes for the third time this season on Tuesday night.

The Trojans and Lady Trojans made short work of Republic County to close out their season on a high note and secure some hardware in the process.

Girls Game: SE of Saline 52, Republic County 27

For a fourth consecutive season, the Lady Trojans have secured at least a share of the NCAA title, evening their league record with Beloit at 8-2.

With this win, Southeast closes out its regular season on a five-game winning streak at 15-5 while the book closes on Republic County’s campaign at 0-20.

“We got out and pressed them which isn’t something that we typically do but it’s something we wanted to work on,” SES head coach Shauna Smith said. “I thought we did a good job of adjusting to the way they attacked it.”

Republic County got off to a solid start but Southeast went on a big early run and never looked back, completely blanking the Buffaloes in the third quarter.

Lexi Jacobson led the Lady Trojans, tying her season high with 19 points in the win, aided by seven other teammates who chipped in at least a bucket.

Despite their pristine record, Southeast will be the 5-seed in this year’s sub-state bracket, and will open postseason play at Osage City next Tuesday.

Boys Game: SE of Saline 77, Republic County 25

On the boy’s side the Trojans routed Republic County in their widest margin of victory by far, leading by 38 at the half of an eventual 52-point win.

With this result, Southeast closes out their regular season at 11-9 overall while the Buffaloes wrap up their year at 1-19.

SES won the turnover battle in style, forcing Republic County to cough up the ball 20 times while surrendering it just three times themselves.

The Trojans were led in scoring by a trio of double-digit contributors in Owen Bailey (14), Gannon Jacobson (12), and Connor Caselman (12), who were among the ten different players to score for Southeast on the night.

On the other side, Republic County got 12 of their 25 points from Levi White, but were held to just a single bucket in both the second and third quarters as the Trojans ran away with the game.

Southeast will open sub-state play next Monday with a home game against either 8-12 Council Grove or 7-13 Halstead.

Sacred Heart vs Ellsworth

The Southeast of Saline basketball teams will close out their regular seasons on Tuesday night when they make the long trip to Republic County to battle the Buffaloes.

Girls Game: SE of Saline (14-5, 7-2) vs. Republic County (0-19, 0-9)

Tonight will be a big one for the Lady Trojans, who have the opportunity to clinch a share of another league title, as well as an outside shot at securing the 4-seed at this year’s sub-state tournament with a win in Belleville.

“We’ve talked about the situation with league and this is a chance for a fourth straight league title which is a big deal to us,” SES head coach Shauna Smith said. “We need to take care of business and this is a big game for sub-state as well and for a chance to possibly host in the opening round.”

Southeast handled their business the first time these two got together back in early February in a 56-34 win, and will need a similar performance tonight to cap off the regular season on a high note.

“Republic County is a hard place to play but we have to have full concentration tonight,” Smith said. “They’ve made big improvements and they’ve been close to beating a few teams even if they haven’t done it yet. We have to convert our buckets around the rim&nbsp;

Tip-off between the Lady Trojans and Buffaloes is scheduled for 6:00.

Southeast of Saline has something big to play for on the boy’s side as well as with a win and an Osage City loss, the Trojans could still steal the 3-seed at this year’s sub-state tournament.

This game will also be the only contest in a span of twelve days before sub-state begins, giving Southeast one last chance to fine-tune things ahead of elimination basketball.

“We’re really looking for guys to get to quality spots for themselves,” SES head coach Bryson Flax said. “Sometimes that’s by getting set up by a teammate, sometimes it’s concept design but we haven’t been putting ourselves in positions to be successful recently. Our lack of offense has overshadowed our pretty solid defense in this stretch but at the end of the day you have to score points.”

The first time these two teams met on the hardwood the Trojans dominated, bashing the Buffs 74-33 in a Gypsum rout.

“I thought we did a pretty good job of earning extra opportunities and creating turnovers in that first game,” Flax said. “We dominated on the glass and that was a big help to our effort.”

The boy’s game is set to follow the girl’s at approximately 7:30 in Belleville.

Southeast Caps off Regular Season in Belleville

Sandoval picked up two saves in both games of the doubleheader, getting the final out of KWU's extra innings win over Ottawa, and pitched the last against Ottawa in the second game to close out the come from behind win over the Braves. He recorded all three outs in the seventh of the last game, as he got two strikeouts and fielded a grounder and went to first unassisted for the out to end the game.

On Saturday, as the Coyotes knocked off No. 9-ranked Southwestern in overtime, Littlejohn was again tremendous, scoring 31 points and pulling down 14 rebounds. while shooting 60 percent from the field. This marks the third time this season Littlejohn has been named the KCAC Men's Basketball Offensive Player of the Week.

Against Southwestern, in the last eight minutes of regulation and overtime, Murdock switched to guarding Cevin Clark and held him to 3 of 7 shooting and four turnovers. This is the third KCAC weekly award Murdock has won this season.

Coyotes sweep weekly KCAC men's basketball honors

The Kansas Wesleyan women are playing their best basketball of the season when it matters most.

<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/43b04bcd-8c31-4537-897e-e809cd37d2a7?elinkdata=5571" target="_blank">LaMyah Ricks</a>&nbsp;scored 20 points and&nbsp;<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/2589c022-623b-4360-80db-11fdb74cafb4?elinkdata=5571" target="_blank">Angel Lee</a>&nbsp;17 as the Coyotes defeated Ottawa 72-62 in a Kansas Conference game Monday night inside Mabee Arena. The game was rescheduled from February 10.

The victory was their fifth in the last six games and raised their record to 15-11, 13-7 in the KCAC with two games left in the regular season. KWU is tied for fourth with Evangel in the standings, one game ahead of Bethany (12-8).

Wesleyan led 32-26 at halftime and pulled away in the third quarter, outscoring the Braves 22-11. The Coyotes' largest lead was 70-43 with 4:50 left in the game before Ottawa closed the gap down the stretch.

KWU shot 50 percent (28 of 56) including 9 of 22 from beyond the 3-point arc and won the rebounding battle 35-28. Ottawa shot 46 percent (12 of 26) but was just 3 of 12 from deep and 5 of 10 at the free throw line

"I thought defensively we were really good," KWU coach&nbsp;<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/205d9738-7084-496c-a15c-86efd39a8f34?elinkdata=5571" target="_blank">Ryan Showman</a>&nbsp;said. "Our goal is to allow 14 points or less and we did that each of the first three quarters."

<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/1bfd22f4-7521-4123-877b-8ca2df09d95d?elinkdata=5571" target="_blank">Jill Stephens</a>&nbsp;added 11 points and six rebounds and&nbsp;<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/2895a54f-87ac-49da-9812-16e20e371a29?elinkdata=5571" target="_blank">Alexis Dixon</a>&nbsp;had 10 points and eight rebounds."I didn't think offensively we executed as well, I thought we left some opportunities out there," Showman said. "That was the message at halftime, to go finish plays and I think the challenge was accepted."

Ricks, playing with black and blue bruise around one eye, was 8 of 10 from the field including 4 of 5 from long distance and had three assists. She's on a roll offensively having scored 18 against Southwestern on Saturday and 18 against Saint Mary last Wednesday.

"February LaMyah," Showman said with a smile. "(The black eye) makes her look tough, builds character."

Lee continued her stellar play of late as well. She was 8 of 13 from the field and had four assists Monday. She scored 11 against Southwestern and had 23 against Saint Mary.

"When my teammates tell me that I can do it anything is possible," said Lee who comes off the bench. She said the Coyotes have come together as a team of late.

"Having that chemistry we're finally learning how each other plays," she said. "Our main goals are to have fun, compete and play hard. As long as we do those three things everything seems to work out."

"She's been a really great offensive weapon for us," Showman said of Lee. "She plays well when she's high confident and right now she has every reason to be high confident because she's playing so well and that just feeds from one game to the next."

Kennedy Bankett led Ottawa (14-12, 9-11 KCAC) with 13 points.KWU closes out the regular season with games against Tabor on Wednesday in Hillsboro and York on Saturday inside Mabee Arena. 

The KCAC tournament begins February 28.Tabor leads the KCAC with a 16-1 record. The Bluejays defeated the Coyotes 77-61 January 6 in Mabee Arena.

Ricks, Lee lead surging Coyotes past Ottawa 73-62

Sacred Heart will be recognizing a total of 12 seniors from the boys and girls teams that will be playing their final regular-season home game on Tuesday night. 

Both teams will also be playing with substate bracket seeding in mind as well.

Girl's game: Sacred Heart (12-7, 4-5) vs. Ellsworth (9-10, 2-7)

The Lady Knights held off the Lady Bearcats in their first meeting at Ellsworth. Despite Sacred Heart leading 20-10 at the end of the opening eight minutes, Ellsworth hung around and trailed 26-22 at halftime and 37-30 after three quarters. The Lady Knights kept just enough distance to go on for a 45-36 win.

Avery Eshleman, Sydney Goetz, Rosie Torres, Maegan Torrey, and Katie Weiss are the five seniors on the Sacred Heart roster.

Tip-off for the girl’s game is set for 6:00 pm from Salina.

Boy's game: Sacred Heart (16-3, 6-3) vs. Ellsworth (16-3, 7-2)

In the first meeting between Ellsworth and Sacred Heart, the Bearcats jumped out to a 17-9 advantage after the opening quarter and led 28-18 at halftime. 

Heading into the final period down 35-24, a 13-1 run by the Knights gave them what turned out to be their only lead in the game at 37-36. However, Ellsworth ended the game on an 8-0 run of its own to go on for the win.

Luca Adami, Evan Bogart, Max Ehrlich, Michael Matteucci, Jason Marrs, Jett Samuelson, and Walker Tuttle are the seven outgoing seniors for the Knights.

Tip-off for the boy’s game is set for 7:30 pm from Salina.

Sacred Heart Welcomes Ellsworth to Salina for Senior Night

Coming off Saturday's big win over No. 9 Southwestern in overtime, the Kansas Wesleyan men's basketball team had to make a quick turnaround to face a tough Ottawa University squad on Monday night at Mabee Arena.

The Coyotes got the job done, using a few big runs and then held on for a 89-83 win over the Braves.

"To come off a big win on Saturday and have to turn around quickly, I thought we were really good for stretches tonight and others we got careless and sloppy with things, and that was tough," Wesleyan head coach&nbsp;<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/2305db4f-08d2-4547-854f-90de9eae10e9?elinkdata=5521" target="_blank">Anthony Monson</a>&nbsp;said.

Wesleyan fell behind early as Ottawa pushed out to a 14-6 lead in the first five minutes of the game."Ottawa's explosive offensively, they can really score it," Monson said.

The Coyotes battled back getting within a point on a 3-pointer by&nbsp;<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/999de077-2bcf-4e94-bec1-0a6d2ea1b9fa?elinkdata=5521" target="_blank">Grant Dye</a>&nbsp;and then took the lead 20-19 with 10:47 left in the first on a steal by&nbsp;<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/427b3e78-6836-49a3-a9a7-2e6230ceb2b7?elinkdata=5521" target="_blank">Caden Hale</a>&nbsp;and outlet to&nbsp;<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/a60b2b4e-d2b5-4eec-a7cb-939533477c94?elinkdata=5521" target="_blank">Jun Murdock</a>&nbsp;for the lay-up.

Ottawa came back to tie it 22-all, but the Coyotes got four straight points from&nbsp;<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/b1b7d57d-0d1e-4184-8926-a665a5fdf170?elinkdata=5521" target="_blank">Alex Littlejohn</a>&nbsp;to lead 26-22 with 8:01 to go.

The Coyotes extended the lead to 10 points for the first time with 6:25 to go on a bucket by&nbsp;<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/10b63fb9-e584-4f2e-9b68-8e190e5e2ed5?elinkdata=5521" target="_blank">Caden Hale</a>.

The Coyotes took a 13 point into intermission at 44-31 when the ball was tipped into the Coyote basket by Jayden Hibbitt for the ultra-rare basketball own goal just before the half.

"I thought we were a little tired and a little off, but at the end of the day we made enough plays to win the game and that's all that matters," Monson said.

Ottawa made a run at the Coyotes to open the second half, making it a 2-point game at 46-44 with 16:51 to go, but the Coyotes scored the next six points to take a 52-44 lead with 15:33 left.

The Braves again cut it to 2 before the Coyotes scored six straight again to take a 58-50 lead with 11:49 left on a free throw by Littlejohn.

Wesleyan never surrendered the lead, but only led by 10 points one more time at 67-57 with 7:36 left.

Ottawa cut it to three down the stretch, but the Coyotes made the plays needed to win the game, sealing the win with Murdock's free throws with 14 seconds left.

Littlejohn paced the Coyotes with 19 points and 15 rebounds, while&nbsp;<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/3e242c09-b4cb-411e-a6ff-f8dcfe35d795?elinkdata=5521" target="_blank">Caden Hale</a>&nbsp;had 15 as did&nbsp;<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/87d7ab72-3b54-41d7-b880-5418b57185d6?elinkdata=5521" target="_blank">Thurbil Bile</a>&nbsp;and Murdock added 13. KWU score 31 of 64 from the field for 48.4 percent.

Wesleyan has another quick turnaround, heading to Tabor on Wednesday before hosting York in Saturday's regular-season finale at 7 p.m. in Mabee Arena.

Coming off Saturday's big win over No. 9 Southwestern in overtime, the Kansas Wesleyan men's basketball team had to make a quick turnaround to face a tough Ottawa University squad on Monday night at Mabee Arena.The Coyotes got the job done, using a few big runs and then held on for a 89-83 win over the Braves."To come off a big win on Saturday and have to turn around quickly, I thought we were really good for stretches tonight and others we got careless and sloppy with things, and that was tough," Wesleyan head coach&nbsp;<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/2305db4f-08d2-4547-854f-90de9eae10e9?elinkdata=5521" target="_blank">Anthony Monson</a>&nbsp;said.Wesleyan fell behind early as Ottawa pushed out to a 14-6 lead in the first five minutes of the game."Ottawa's explosive offensively, they can really score it," Monson said.The Coyotes battled back getting within a point on a 3-pointer by&nbsp;<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/999de077-2bcf-4e94-bec1-0a6d2ea1b9fa?elinkdata=5521" target="_blank">Grant Dye</a>&nbsp;and then took the lead 20-19 with 10:47 left in the first on a steal by&nbsp;<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/427b3e78-6836-49a3-a9a7-2e6230ceb2b7?elinkdata=5521" target="_blank">Caden Hale</a>&nbsp;and outlet to&nbsp;<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/a60b2b4e-d2b5-4eec-a7cb-939533477c94?elinkdata=5521" target="_blank">Jun Murdock</a>&nbsp;for the lay-up.Ottawa came back to tie it 22-all, but the Coyotes got four straight points from&nbsp;<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/b1b7d57d-0d1e-4184-8926-a665a5fdf170?elinkdata=5521" target="_blank">Alex Littlejohn</a>&nbsp;to lead 26-22 with 8:01 to go.The Coyotes extended the lead to 10 points for the first time with 6:25 to go on a bucket by&nbsp;<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/10b63fb9-e584-4f2e-9b68-8e190e5e2ed5?elinkdata=5521" target="_blank">Caden Hale</a>.The Coyotes took a 13 point into intermission at 44-31 when the ball was tipped into the Coyote basket by Jayden Hibbitt for the ultra-rare basketball own goal just before the half."I thought we were a little tired and a little off, but at the end of the day we made enough plays to win the game and that's all that matters," Monson said.Ottawa made a run at the Coyotes to open the second half, making it a 2-point game at 46-44 with 16:51 to go, but the Coyotes scored the next six points to take a 52-44 lead with 15:33 left.The Braves again cut it to 2 before the Coyotes scored six straight again to take a 58-50 lead with 11:49 left on a free throw by Littlejohn.Wesleyan never surrendered the lead, but only led by 10 points one more time at 67-57 with 7:36 left.Ottawa cut it to three down the stretch, but the Coyotes made the plays needed to win the game, sealing the win with Murdock's free throws with 14 seconds left.Littlejohn paced the Coyotes with 19 points and 15 rebounds, while&nbsp;<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/3e242c09-b4cb-411e-a6ff-f8dcfe35d795?elinkdata=5521" target="_blank">Caden Hale</a>&nbsp;had 15 as did&nbsp;<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/87d7ab72-3b54-41d7-b880-5418b57185d6?elinkdata=5521" target="_blank">Thurbil Bile</a>&nbsp;and Murdock added 13. KWU score 31 of 64 from the field for 48.4 percent.Wesleyan has another quick turnaround, heading to Tabor on Wednesday before hosting York in Saturday's regular-season finale at 7 p.m. in Mabee Arena.
