Kansas Wesleyan Baseball completed a three-game sweep of the Bethany Swedes on Saturday at Dean Evans Stadium picking up two wins as13-3 in seven innings, and then capping the series with a 15-4 win.
It took until the third inning of the first game for the Coyotes to get the bats going. Fernando Ruvalcaba led off the inning with a double and Carter Allen walked setting up Drew Wardell's 3-run homer.
Bethany got within a run at 3-2 in the fourth, but in the bottom of the inning the Coyotes started to pull away. Homers by Tyler Favretto and Joe Finder in the inning made it 6-2.
The Swedes got their final run of the game in the fifth, meanwhile the Coyotes were just getting going. Walks to Eric Romero and Favretto around a Jacob Williamson double loaded the bases and Garrett Garfield would walk to bring in a run. Ruvalcaba then stepped up and uncorked a grand slam to make it 11-3 Coyotes.
Favretto brought in a run in the sixth reaching on a fielder's choice making it 12-3 and in the seventh the Coyotes ended it as Ruvalcaba singled and then Allen doubled to bring in pinch runner Michael Rago to close it out.
Ruvalcaba had a game, going 3 of 4 with four RBI to pace the KWU offense. Nathan Righi went five innings allowing three runs on three hits with five strikeouts. Riley Gwin allowed two hits in two innings of relief.
The Coyotes wasted no time in getting the bats going in the second game. Favretto and Garfield homered in the first inning and after Ruvalcaba walked, Allen hit a 2-run homer and it was 4-0 after an inning.
Bethany got a run in the second, but in the bottom of the inning, the Coyotes added four more. Romero walked, and Williamson followed with a 2-run homer. Two batters later, Garfield and Ruvalcaba went back-to-back for the Coyotes to make it 8-1.
The Swedes got two runs in the third, but the Coyotes got one back on Favretto's RBI double in the bottom of the inning.
After another Bethany run in the fourth, the Coyotes added two more, the first coming as Allen stole third and then scored on a throwing error by the catcher, and pinch hitter Jackson Harriger followed with an RBI double to make it 11-4.
Wesleyan loaded the bases in the bottom of the sixth on walks to Wardell and Blake Dale. Romero singled to pack the bags and the first run of the inning came on a wild pitch. Favretto drove in a run with an RBI groundout, and later in the inning after loading the bases again, Allen walked in a run and Alex Garcia did as well.
Favretto, Garfield and Allen had two hits each for the Coyotes. Favretto and Allen drove in three each. Nathan Galusha got the win, going four innings, allowing four runs on seven hits with five strikeouts. Ritter Steinmann pitched two innings and Hunter Blea got an inning of work.
