K-State’s Sundell and Sides Named CSC Academic All-District VII

MANHATTAN, Kan. – K-State women’s basketball student-athletes Serena Sundell and Taryn Sides have been named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District VII team. This is the third honor for Sundell and Sides earned her first selection.

As a program, K-State women’s basketball has earned 31 (formerly CoSIDA) CSC Academic All-District VII citations by 18 student-athletes.

In addition to her third CSC Academic All-District VII honor, Sundell is a two-time Academic All-Big 12 selection (2023 and 2024), earned the 2024 Dr. Gerald Lage Academic Achievement Award and was a 2022 Big 12 Academic All-Rookie Team selection.

She graduated in May 2024 with her bachelor’s degree in organizational management and is pursuing her master’s degree in business administration.

On the court this season, Sundell has been named a 2025 Associated Press All-America honorable mention, a 2025 Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) All-America top-50 finalist and a 2025 All-Big 12 First Team selection.

Sundell leads the nation with a career-high and school record for total assists (256) and paces the nation and leads the Big 12 with a career-high for assists per game (7.31 apg) and third in the Big 12 for assist-turnover ratio (2.46). She owns a league-best nine games with 10 or more assists.

The product of Maryville, Missouri, is second on the team in scoring average with 13.9 points per game and leads the Wildcats with 486 points, which is the second-highest total of her career on a .503 field goal percentage. Her 186 made field goals this season is a new career-high.

She has registered a career-high 30 blocked shots (0.86 bpg) and has pulled in 153 rebounds (4.4 rpg), which is the second-highest rebound total in her career.

Sundell is the only player in the nation to register 400 or more points, 200 or more assists, 150 or more rebounds and 30 or more blocks. She has registered a career-high eight double-doubles this season. She was the first Big 12 player since the 2022-23 season and the fifth player in program history to register a triple-double with 26 points, 13 assists and 10 rebounds against USC Upstate on Dec. 5, 2024.

With her point (486) and assist (256) totals this season, Sundell is the first player in Big 12 history to record four seasons with 350 or more points and 150 or more assists.

In her career, Sundell holds the school records for career starts (138) and games played (138). She  holds the school record and ranks fourth in Big 12 history for career assists with 805 and is second in program history for career assists per game (5.83 apg). She ranks sixth on the K-State career scoring list with 1,749 points. She ranks eighth in school history for career blocks (103).

She is the only player in school history with 1,500 or more career points, 800 or more career assists and 100 or more career blocked shots.

Sides, a sophomore from Phillipsburg, Kansas, is a kinesiology major who garnered 2024 Academic Big 12 All-Rookie team honors.

Sides has established career-highs in nearly every statistical category this season including points (323; 9.5 ppg), field goals made and attempted (114-249), field goal percentage (.458), three-point field goals made and attempted (84-192), three-point field goal percentage (.438), rebounds (138; 4.1 rpg), assists (98; 2.88 apg), steals (35; 1.03 spg) and blocks (4).

Her 84 three-point field goals made this season are the second-most in a sophomore season in program history. She ranks 15th in the nation in 3-point field goal percentage and 20th for total 3-point field goals made. She is the only player in the nation this season to make 80 or more 3-point field goals without a start.

K-State (28-7) returns to action on Saturday night at 7 p.m. (CT), in the Spokane Regional 4 regional semifinal of the 2025 NCAA Tournament and will face top seed USC (30-3). The game will be broadcast on ESPN and the ESPN app and nationwide on Westwood One Sports.
