Judy Ann VanHorn, 79, of Salina, passed away Thursday, October 19th, 2023.

Judy was born in Abilene, Kansas on November 24, 1943, a daughter of Waunetta C. (Parks) and Edward Hughes Wray.

She was Crew Chief at Beech Aircraft/Raytheon and installed electronics in airplanes.

On February 14, 2003, Judy married Ernie Leroy VanHorn in Salina.

Survivors include her husband, Ernie, of the home; sons, Joe Mark, Gene VanHorn; daughter, Ginger Lemaster (Jeff), all of Salina, Kansas.

She is also survived by 5 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild.

She is preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Donald Heath; brother, Clarence Wray; and daughter, Gayela Cooper.

Visitation will be from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM on Wednesday, October 25th at Carlson - Geisendorf Funeral Home.

Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 AM, Thursday, October 26th at Salina First Nazarene Church with Rev. Jon Fillipi officiating.

Burial will be at 1:30 PM, Thursday, October 26th, at Buckeye Cemetery, Buckeye, Kansas

Sherry Wiedmer, 71, of Salina, passed away Monday, October 23, 2023.&nbsp;&nbsp; She was born in Salina, KS, to Calvary and Neva (Ditto) Miller on March 22, 1952.&nbsp; She retired from Bimbo Banking Company as a retail manager for 30 years.

She is preceded in death by her brother, Steve Miller and her parents.

She is survived by her daughters, Nicole Deatherage and Alexandria Curtis-Bush; sisters, Judy Calfee and Rhonda Vignery; five granddaughters; two grandsons; one great-granddaughter; one great-grandson.

Graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 28, at Roselawn Memorial Park.&nbsp; A Celebration of Life will follow at The Salvation Army building, 1137 N Santa Fe, Salina.

Louis Anthony Marcozzi, 61, of Salina, Kansas, passed away Sunday, October 22nd, 2023.

Louis was born in Monessen, Pennsylvania on November 27th, 1961, a son of Virginia (Masci) Marcozzi and Louis Marcozzi. He was an Engineer for 30 years at Phillips Lighting.

Louis enjoyed golfing, was an avid Steelers and WVU football fan and sports car enthusiast.

He is survived by son, Louis (Madison) Marcozzi II; two grandchildren, Mack and Macon Marcozzi; sister, Lynn Ann Marcozzi and two nieces, Gianna and Sophia Marcozzi and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother and father.

Louis was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A visitation will be held on Friday, October 27th, 2023, from 5:00pm-8:00pm at Ryan Mortuary. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, October 28th, 2023, at 10:00 am at St. Mary Queen of the Universe Catholic Church in Salina, Kansas.

Franklin Kent Russell, 87, passed away on October 17, 2023 in Salina, Kansas. Frank was born on February 12, 1936 to John and Beatrice (Hoshor) Russell in Savannah, Missouri.

Frank was raised on a farm near Savannah Missouri. He graduated from Savannah High School. Frank worked a variety of jobs throughout his life. He sold Lely farm implements. He owned his own business RCR building oil field tanks. He retired from Exide Cooperation. Frank and his wife Betty owned and operated Natural Connections for many years. They loved traveling and selling herbs and vitamins and educating the public on alternative health.

Frank married Rhonda (Ward) in 1953 together they had 4 children Becky, Kathie, Mike, and Jill. Frank married Betty (Boller) in 1969. Frank gained two sons Robert and Dean. Frank and Betty had one child Nicole. Frank and Betty were married for 53 years prior to Betty’s passing October 14, 2023.

Survivors include: his 7 children Becky Fischer,, Kathie (Cary) Burt, Mike, and Jill Utech, Robert (Melissa) Reinke, Dean (Lora) Reinke, and Nicole (Jay) Betz, and&nbsp; sister Bridgett Ash.&nbsp;Frank was blessed with many grandchildren. Brett Green, Tommy Crawley, Timmy Crawley, Brian Slater, Chad Slater, Mitch Slater, Wade Burt, Ashley Ballou, Michael Russell, Christine Grimes, Natasha Sears, Cameron Betz, and Cory Betz. He also has several great grandchildren that love him.

Frank was preceded in death by his wife Betty, both his parents, brothers John, William and Bill&nbsp; and two granddaughters Rhonda and Misty.

The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., Thursday, October 26, at Ryan Mortuary. The funeral service will be Friday, October 27, at 3 p.m. at Ryan Mortuary.

Franklin Kent Russell

Carol I. Williams, 84 years of age of Salina passed away Saturday, October 21, 2023, at home. She was born on May 20, 1939, in Marquette, Kansas, to Don and Ada Peterson.

Carol was a 1957 graduate of Marquette High School. She was then a childcare provider, running a home daycare for 39 years.

On June 23, 1961, Carol married Robert (Bob) Williams in Fairbury, Nebraska. Together they had four children, Rodger Peterson, Terri Peterson, Robert (Bobby) Williams Jr., and Mark Williams.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Don and Ada Peterson; husband, Robert Williams; brothers, Jack Peterson, Bill Peterson, and Dick Peterson; and sisters, Lila Kindt, Barbara Peterson, Phyllis Strifler, and Patricia Peterson.

Survivors include her four children; her sister, Mildred (Millie) Maskil; 16 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Carol loved bowling, bingo, playing cards, dancing, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, November 9th from 4:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. at the Moose Lodge, 1700 Beverly Drive, Salina KS. 67401. This will be a casual, come-and-go get-together, where we would love to hear about your favorite memories with Carol.

P. Russell Miller, 80, peacefully passed away on Thursday, October 26, 2023, surrounded by family at Hospice House, Hutchinson. Pearl Russell Miller was born June 7, 1943, in Independence, Kansas to Rose Alice and Pearl Wilson Miller.

Russell went to school up to the 8th grade at Gypsum, Kansas. He enlisted into the Marines at age 16.

On March 5, 1966, in Marquette, Kansas, he married Doris Ann Swabby.&nbsp;They were blessed with two children, Debra Ann and David Russell.

They lived in Salina, Kansas for seven years where Russell worked at Golf Truck Stop, Sinclair Service Station, and later at Farm Bureau as a truck driver delivering farm supplies throughout Kansas. He moved his family to rural Rice county and continued to assist his father-in-law with farming. He had also worked at S-G Diesel Power in McPherson and at Little River Manufacturing,&nbsp;a firm that made airplane parts. In 1992, he became an owner of his own service station, Miller's Service Station. In 2000, he went to work for Turkey Creek Farm in Moundridge, delivering newly hatched turkeys to places in mid America. He later drove a delivery truck for Stutzmans Greenhouse in Pleasantville, Kansas.

In 2017, Russell and Doris moved from the family farm near Windom to Hutchinson, Kansas where he finally retired.

Russell's hobbies were farming, fishing, hunting, automobile mechanics, and loving his dogs, Mitzy and Brownie. He treasured his time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death are his wife, Doris, mother, father, and brother, Charles Miller.

Survivors are children, Debra and Tim Skalinder, David Miller and Brenda Barber; sister, Carrolyn Henry; grandchildren, Dakota and Rebecca Skalinder, Alie and Andrew Durst, and Josie Miller; and three great-grandchildren, Kenna, Bryson, and Delani.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, Wednesday, November 1, 2023, at Stockham Family Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM, Thursday, November 2, at Excelsior Cemetery, Marquette&nbsp; Kansas.

P. Russell Miller

Charles William Herman, 91, of Concordia passed away Sunday, October 22, 2023, at the NCK Medical Center in Concordia.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was born on December 10, 1931, in rural Lincoln County, Kansas to Wendell Robert and Anna Arminda (Locke) Herman.Charles attended elementary school at Prairie Grove, a one-room school with one teacher for all 8 grades.&nbsp;&nbsp;He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1949 and from Kansas State University in 1953 with a B.S. in geology.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Upon graduation, he received a commission in the U.S. Air Force as a Second Lieutenant and served his country from 1954 to 1956.&nbsp;&nbsp;He then returned to Kansas State and received an M.S. degree in geology and worked for oil companies in Arkansas, Oklahoma and Louisiana for 8 years.&nbsp;&nbsp;After returning to Kansas State for a teaching certificate, he taught 8th-grade science and coached basketball at Concordia Junior-Senior High School for 23 years while also farming in Lincoln County.&nbsp;&nbsp;Charles retired from teaching in 1988 but continued farming full time in Lincoln County until 2010.

He married Leota Nitsch on August 31, 1952, at Bethany Baptist Church, rural Hunter, KS, their home church.&nbsp;&nbsp;Charles’ grandfather, Rev. Charley Herman, a Methodist minister for many years performed the ceremony. God blessed Charles and Leota with 5 children: Douglas Lynn, Sandra Joyce, Anna Irene, Eric Wendell and Kenneth Charles.

Charles accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior at an early age and served Him faithfully his entire life in the many places he lived.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was a long-time member of The Baptist Church in Concordia where he served over the years as a Sunday school teacher, youth sponsor, Finance Board member, and on various committees and ministry teams.

Charles was a quiet person, a deep thinker, had a dry sense of humor and was very witty. He was a devoted and loving husband and father.&nbsp;&nbsp;Charles enjoyed woodworking and made several pieces of furniture for their home, doll houses for the granddaughters and wooden toys for the grandsons.&nbsp;&nbsp;Charles and Leota enjoyed traveling and visited 49 of the 50 states (not Hawaii).&nbsp;&nbsp;They also spent 16 days in Cape Town, South Africa in 1999 visiting their former exchange student and spent 33 days in Alaska in 2008 with an RV group of 45 motor-home enthusiasts from all over the U.S. touring the state of Alaska.&nbsp;&nbsp;Many members of the RV group continued to meet annually for a reunion and have become good friends.

 </figure>Charles William Herman, 91, of Concordia passed away Sunday, October 22, 2023, at the NCK Medical Center in Concordia.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was born on December 10, 1931, in rural Lincoln County, Kansas to Wendell Robert and Anna Arminda (Locke) Herman.Charles attended elementary school at Prairie Grove, a one-room school with one teacher for all 8 grades.&nbsp;&nbsp;He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1949 and from Kansas State University in 1953 with a B.S. in geology.&nbsp;&nbsp;Upon graduation, he received a commission in the U.S. Air Force as a Second Lieutenant and served his country from 1954 to 1956.&nbsp;&nbsp;He then returned to Kansas State and received an M.S. degree in geology and worked for oil companies in Arkansas, Oklahoma and Louisiana for 8 years.&nbsp;&nbsp;After returning to Kansas State for a teaching certificate, he taught 8th-grade science and coached basketball at Concordia Junior-Senior High School for 23 years while also farming in Lincoln County.&nbsp;&nbsp;Charles retired from teaching in 1988 but continued farming full time in Lincoln County until 2010.He married Leota Nitsch on August 31, 1952, at Bethany Baptist Church, rural Hunter, KS, their home church.&nbsp;&nbsp;Charles’ grandfather, Rev. Charley Herman, a Methodist minister for many years performed the ceremony. God blessed Charles and Leota with 5 children: Douglas Lynn, Sandra Joyce, Anna Irene, Eric Wendell and Kenneth Charles.Charles accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior at an early age and served Him faithfully his entire life in the many places he lived.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was a long-time member of The Baptist Church in Concordia where he served over the years as a Sunday school teacher, youth sponsor, Finance Board member, and on various committees and ministry teams.Charles was a quiet person, a deep thinker, had a dry sense of humor and was very witty. Corey Todd Flood, 61, of McPherson, KS, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, at his home on Wednesday, October 25, 2023.&nbsp; Corey was a Quality Control Inspector at Mid Kansas Machine and was a life-long resident of McPherson.

He was born Oct. 2, 1962, in McPherson, the son of Robert E. and Juanita M. “Corky” (Smay) Flood. Corey attended the McPherson Schools and graduated from McPherson High School in 1981.

On November 28, 1992, Corey was united in marriage to Ida Jean Oriet in McPherson.&nbsp; This union was blessed with five children.

Survivors include: his loving wife, Ida of the home; five children, Dillon Flood (Allison) of McPherson, Cassie Schoonover (Colton) of McPherson, Todd Flood of McPherson, Jamie Spaich (Levi) of Windom, KS, and Aerianna Flood of McPherson; two brothers, Mike Flood of Wichita, KS and Scott Flood (Georgia) of Newton, KS; six grandchildren, Katie, Cashton, Grace, Elijah, Rowan, and Timothy; mother-in-law &amp; father-in-law, Nellie &amp; Joseph Oriet of McPherson; and several nieces &amp; nephews.

Luava Marie Hederstedt, 96, longtime resident of Saline County, Kansas, died October 18, 2023, in Texas without major illness or hospitalization. Luava was born in Gove County, Kansas, as the eldest of Will and Marie Fullmer’s six children.

When Luava was 10, her family moved to central California during the Dust Bowl of the 1930’s, and soon after she trusted Christ as her Savior. Returning to Kansas in her twenties, Luava met and married Paul Hederstedt, who passed away in 2013 after 60 years of marriage. They farmed east of Salina for 20 years, and Luava spent countless hours driving gravel roads into town to give her children various opportunities—music and swim lessons, rollerskating, choir and others. They were longtime members of First Covenant Church, where Luava served as church secretary for many years.

 Before that, she worked as a secretary with two companies and later as an ALFAC insurance agent.Luava is remembered for her faith in God, for deeply loving her family, and for volunteering and serving others in countless ways behind the scenes, including Meals on Wheels. She took great joy in hearing her family make music and sing and play hymns. 

Her greatest regret in the past couple of years was not being able to read even a large-print Bible because of macular degeneration; listening to the YouVersion audio Bible on her iPad became a lifeline for her.Luava is survived by her three children (and their spouses):&nbsp; Randy (Chris, deceased), Kansas; Roger (Julie), South Carolina; and Sharon (John), Texas.&nbsp; Her 11 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren live in Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, South Carolina and Michigan. She also has one brother, three sisters and many neices and nephews in California, along with numerous other cousins and relatives.

Joe&nbsp;F.&nbsp;Dolezal, 80, Hays,&nbsp;passed away&nbsp;Wednesday,&nbsp;October&nbsp;25, 2023 in Hays, Kansas.&nbsp;

He was born&nbsp;September 16, 1943&nbsp;in Belleville, Kansas&nbsp;to Elmer and Marcella (Kalivoda) Dolezal.&nbsp;He attended school at White School,&nbsp;Cubaand Belleville High School.&nbsp;He did not attend kindergarten because White School had eight grades in one room but no kindergarten.&nbsp;Joe's mother told him he was gifted and&nbsp;didn't&nbsp;need it.&nbsp;His wife reminded&nbsp;him that everything he really needed to know, like sharing, neatness,&nbsp;and good manners, he should have learned in kindergarten-hence his adult problems!&nbsp;

When Joe's abundant musical talent took over in high school age, he drove to Belleville because there were two outstanding music teachers there&nbsp;-Mr. Van Gundy and Mr. Nelson King.&nbsp;Following three busy years at Belleville High School, graduating in 1961, Joe eventually went to Fort Hays State University and majored in music education in 1965 (Mr. King's advice).&nbsp;He earned his Masters of Music Education in 1970.

His freshman year he played Charley Dalrymple in&nbsp;Brigadoon&nbsp;at FortHays.&nbsp;In the audience his future wife, Sue Nelson, noticed him singing "Come to Me, Bend to Me" and thought,&nbsp;"Wow, he is talented and cute".&nbsp;A year later, she and Joe finally met when she accompanied him on his voice recital.&nbsp;Then he discovered Sue lived a block from campus with a mother who kept her refrigerator full.&nbsp;Joe enjoyed her food.&nbsp;His sophomore year he had the lead in&nbsp;Kismet.

Joe married Sue Nelson&nbsp;on&nbsp;November&nbsp;1, 1963,&nbsp;in Hays,&nbsp;both completing their music education degrees.&nbsp;Joe taught two years in Plainville, three years in Belleville, and 28 years in Hays, Kansas.&nbsp;He had three choral groups selected to perform at the Kansas Music Educators Association state convention and served as the president of the Kansas American Choral Directors Association.&nbsp;He took four choirs to Europe, three to New York festivals,&nbsp;and five show choirs to Disney World.

Following his retirement in 1998, he and Sue bought a convenience store, laundromat, RV park, and many rental units that kept him busy.

Joe and Sue's union was blessed with three wonderful children.&nbsp;Scott and Darlene (Randa) Dolezal and all three of their sons,&nbsp;Steven&nbsp;and Kate (Koetting) Dolezal&nbsp;with&nbsp;Sofia and Riley, Matt and Meagan (Jennings) Dolezal with Brooks, and Joshua and Alexa (Pacheco) Dolezal with Mark Ryan live in Amarillo, Texas.&nbsp;

Mark Joseph Dolezal, his middle child, died in 2016. He was Joe's right hand managing rental units, etc.

Jan&nbsp;Staab,&nbsp;the apple of her father's eye, married to Kirk Staab, live in Irving, Texas&nbsp;with two sons Kaden and Callie (Siruta)&nbsp;Staab&nbsp;and Kyler Staab living in Colby, Kansas.

He is also survived by his brother,&nbsp;Loren and Beverly Dolezal,&nbsp;and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Marcella Dolezal, and his son, Mark Joseph Dolezal.

Joe loved traveling to Broadway musicals, Alaska, Hawaii, Cancun, Czechoslovakia, family ski trips,&nbsp;and&nbsp;K- State bowl games.&nbsp;He loved attending Royals, Fort&nbsp;Hays,&nbsp;and K-State games.&nbsp;His later years were all about his Joe Dolezal&nbsp;polka&nbsp;band.&nbsp;He was passionate about his Czechoslovakian folk music and culture and playing his German purchased button accordion.&nbsp;He and Sue enjoyed walking their dogs, playing bridge, golf,&nbsp;and tennis (a long time ago).&nbsp;He played in an over-the-hill basketball league with fellow teachers until his over-enthusiastic defense caused a one-game suspension!

No words can express his family's sincere feelings of loss and sadness at this how proud they are of his contribution to the musical world in Hays America.&nbsp;He influenced many generations of high school choral students for four decades.&nbsp;He passed his love of music onto not just his children and grandchildren, but thousands of his students.&nbsp;He left his footprint wherever he went.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at Hays First United Methodist Church&nbsp;with Rev. Donna Boxberger-Vise, 80, of Johnstown, Colorado, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, October 24, 2023.

Donna was born on September 7, 1943 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.&nbsp; The daughter of Betty Rae (Morgan and Dennis Bluejacket.&nbsp; Dennis was killed in WWII in 1944.&nbsp; Betty married Harlan Boxberger, who later adopted Donna.&nbsp; She graduated from Russell High School in the Class of 1961.

Donna was united in marriage to Kenny Hollinger in 1961.&nbsp; This union was blessed with a daughter, Marcy.&nbsp; Kenny and Donna later got a divorce.&nbsp; Donna was united in marriage to Dale Vise in 1987.

Donna was an avid baker for many years at several businesses around the Johnstown area.&nbsp; Her love of stained glass work would lead her and Dale to own a small business of their own.

Donna had fond memories of the family cabin at Fish Lake, Utah when she was in her teens and as an adult.&nbsp; Her and Dale would spend most of their summers there after they retired.&nbsp; She loved fishing and attending the campground pot luck suppers with all their Fish Lake friends.

Donna Boxberger-Vise

Dolores Marie (Schmitt) Deneault, 94, died peacefully at North Central Kansas Medical Center on October 23, 2023, surrounded by her children. She was born August 11, 1929, to Louis and Mary (Hake) Schmitt in Tipton, Kansas. Eventually, she would become the fifth child of seven.

She lived her life in service to others and that gave her the most joy. This started at an early age when her father asked her to drop out of Tipton High School, before her senior year to take care of her mother who was very ill. Though it was difficult to watch her friends graduate without her, she always did whatever was needed for her family regardless of the sacrifices required.

Dolores loved to dance, especially polka, and one night in Beloit she met her forever dance partner, Levi Deneault. They were married on October 22, 1947, in Tipton and would make their home on a farm southeast of Concordia. In addition to caring for their six children, Dolores worked with her husband on the farm driving wheat to the elevator, taking care of cattle and chickens, and canning produce from the garden. In 1969, they moved to a house in Concordia.

Dolores earned her high school diploma via correspondence in 1972. Over the years, she worked at the Cloud County Sheriff’s Office, Fairmont Foods, and the Blade Empire until her retirement in 1992.

Dolores spent her retirement playing cards, landscaping, volunteering at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church and dancing with Levi until his death in 2013.

For their high school graduation gifts, Dolores made all her granddaughters quilts and crocheted blankets for her grandsons. Hosting and cooking for all her children and grandchildren at the holidays was by far her favorite pastime. With 17 grandchildren, there were times when sardines had more room than a Deneault family gathering, but you could never convince Dolores there was not room for one more at her table and few things disappointed her more than when family members could not attend.

Even in her nineties, she attended as many family gatherings or grandchildren activities as possible, went to mass weekly, and stayed up late on Saturday nights to polka dance in her living room.

She was a member of Our Lady Perpetual Help Church, its Alter Society, Former Aurora Ladies club, marathon card group, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Concordia Moose Club.

In addition to her husband, Dolores was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Brenda Deneault; grandson Jesse Larkins; great granddaughter Karsten Begnoche; granddaughter-in-law Krystal Link, sisters Madalyn Schulte, Catherine Streit, Irene Barton; and brothers Leo and Paul Schmitt.

Dolores is survived by her children Sam (Linda), Dallas, TX; Deanna Link (Jerry), Delphos; Jolene Crotinger (Rod), Concordia; Don (Jeanette) and Galen (Debbie), Concordia. Her 17 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

She also leaves behind her sister Sally Lokey and sisters-in-law Gloria Hoffman Hall and Ella Livengood.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 29, 2023, from 1-6 p.m., at the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia, Kansas.

A Vigil/Rosary Service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, October 29, 2023 at the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home.&nbsp;&nbsp;The family will receive friends after the Vigil/Rosary Service.

Sharon Ann Thelander, 78, of Salina, Kan., passed away Monday, October 23, 2023. She was born November 14, 1944, in Ellsworth, Kan., to Jack and Eula (Wiebke) Taylor.

Sharon married John Everett Thelander on December 30, 1963, in Abilene, Kan. Over the years she was a homemaker, secretary at The Land Institute, clothing store manager, bookkeeper, and she assisted with farm life and harvest. She was a member of First Covenant Church in Salina, and for many years hosted a collector’s club for antique hobbyists and wrote a newsletter for a post-polio survivors’ group.

Survivors include: her son, John R. Thelander (Kellie), of Salina; grandchildren, Kajsa Erickson (Alex), Jacob, Kaitlyn Prickett (Ben), Josiah (Emilee), Klaira and Karley Thelander; great-grandchildren, Jeffrey, Elowyn, Marjorie Erickson, and Adah; sister, Jolene Decker; sister-in-law, Elaine Morse (Paul); and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband of 56 years, John; and siblings, Gary Taylor, Mick Taylor, Ruth Holzhuter, and Jacqueline Copeland.

Visitation will be from 1-5 p.m., Sunday, October 29, at Ryan Mortuary, Salina, with family present from 3-5. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m., Monday, October 30, at First Covenant Church, Salina. Burial will be in Gypsum Hill Cemetery.

Lawrence “Larry” D. Hammerschmidt, 70, passed away October 19, 2023. He was born August 23, 1953 to Elmer M. and Dorothy Ann (Freitag) Hammerschmidt. He was preceded in death by his parents. Surviving Larry’s passing is his wife Cathy, two children Brad and Crystal, his brother David Hammerschmidt and&nbsp;sister, Linda Kendrick.

“Our Mom and Dad have been together for 50 years; they grew up only blocks away from each other. I’m sure it had something to do with a motorcycle, hotrods or dragging cars down Santa Fe that brought them together. They married in 1980 and around the time I was to come around, Dad joined mom as her one and only employee in her upholstery shop. They’ve been working together ever since.”

In his passing we remember the laughs and mischief that followed him everywhere. He loved to sit and chat and seemed to be quiet a charmer everywhere he went. He loved hotrods, working with his hands and always had big projects in the works. His grandest vision was hands down, the “Tower” and it’s where us kids learned so many valuable lessons on how to build your dreams. Thank you, dad! He loved to tinker, had exquisite taste in tools and loved to over engineer everything if he had the chance. With his passing goes an irreplaceable wealth of knowledge and experience. I know there are so many lives, and cars, that my dad has touched in his lifetime. While we hold the deepest love and remembrance for my dad, we thank you all for your kindness.&nbsp;

We will&nbsp;honor and celebrate Dad with a party on November 5th at Lakewood Park, Salina. Between 12-3, in shelter #1. We hope that you come out to enjoy a meal and share some laughs with each other, we would love to see everyone out on the motorcycles and cars Dad worked on or just loved to enjoy. Janet was born on August 12, 1949, in Salina, KS, the daughter of James W. and Beth N. (Cassell) Roe.&nbsp; She graduated from McPherson High School in 1968.&nbsp; On March 31, 1968, Janet was united in marriage to Douglas R. Tuell at the First Christian Church in McPherson.&nbsp; This union was blessed with two sons, Shawn and Tyson.

While living in McPherson, Janet was the head baker for USD 418 and was the kitchen manager for McPherson Head Start program.

She was a member of the First Christian Church, McPherson.

Survivors include: her loving husband of 55 years, Doug; a son, Tyson Tuell and wife, April, of Moundridge, KS; a brother, Ronald Roe and life partner, Jeanie Fritscher, of Iowa and Arizona; six grandchildren, Gemini Tuell, Anthony Huff, Cody Harter, Joaquin Huff, Julius Huff, and Karina Chapa; three great-grandchildren, Liam Tuell, Teagan Tuell, and Elijah Carrothers; and many extended relatives and friends.

Janet Lynn Tuell

Joseph “Phil” Aumick, 68, of Bennington, passed away on Tuesday, October 17, 2023 after complications from his recent diagnosis of lymphoma. He was born in Little Rock, AR, on April 1, 1955, to Frederick G. and Julia Elizabeth (Roche) Aumick.  He met his wife, Patti L. Bowman, of 46 years at the University of Kansas, where he majored in journalism. Phil and Patti married on May 28, 1977, in Clifton, KS.

Phil remained an active Jayhawk fan the rest of his life, introducing his children to KU basketball and Allen Fieldhouse at a young age.

Phil spent his career in advertising and marketing, working at the Salina Journal, Waters True Value Hardware stores, and as the Ottawa County economic development coordinator, where he combined his marketing skills with his drive to serve his community.

Phil was active in the Bennington and Minneapolis communities for many years, serving on the Twin Valley School Board for twelve years and on the Board of Directors for Rock City Park and Golden Wheel Senior Center. He volunteered for numerous community and school projects over the years, from the Bennington ball fields to the carnival at the Ottawa County Fair. When his children were in school, he coached many of their sports teams for years.

In his spare time, Phil liked to do jigsaw puzzles, fly fish, hike, and travel. After retiring, Phil and Patti traveled extensively in their RV and made frequent trips to see their children and grandchildren. Phil’s creative side came out in his wood working, gardening and landscaping, and the many craft projects he did with his grandkids. He enjoyed the planning and learning involved in his hobbies and travels just as much as he enjoyed the projects and trips themselves. But most of all, he cherished his time spent with his family and grandchildren.

Left to treasure his memory are his wife, Patti, of Bennington; daughter, Dana Berggren, husband Michael, and their children Caleb, Grant, and Madelyn, of Pella, IA; son, Brian Aumick, of Voorheesville, NY and his son Drew; father, Frederick Aumick, of Lawrence, KS; brother, David Aumick, of Troy, OH; sister, Joyce Claterbos, of Lawrence, KS; and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Julia “Liz” Aumick, sister-in-law, Karen Aumick, and brother-in-law, Chris Claterbos.

 </figure>Joseph “Phil” Aumick, 68, of Bennington, passed away on Tuesday, October 17, 2023 after complications from his recent diagnosis of lymphoma. He was born in Little Rock, AR, on April 1, 1955, to Frederick G. and Julia Elizabeth (Roche) Aumick. He met his wife, Patti L. Bowman, of 46 years at the University of Kansas, where he majored in journalism. Phil and Patti married on May 28, 1977, in Clifton, KS.Phil remained an active Jayhawk fan the rest of his life, introducing his children to KU basketball and Allen Fieldhouse at a young age.Phil spent his career in advertising and marketing, working at the Salina Journal, Waters True Value Hardware stores, and as the Ottawa County economic development coordinator, where he combined his marketing skills with his drive to serve his community.Phil was active in the Bennington and Minneapolis communities for many years, serving on the Twin Valley School Board for twelve years and on the Board of Directors for Rock City Park and Golden Wheel Senior Center. He volunteered for numerous community and school projects over the years, from the Bennington ball fields to the carnival at the Ottawa County Fair. When his children were in school, he coached many of their sports teams for years.In his spare time, Phil liked to do jigsaw puzzles, fly fish, hike, and travel. After retiring, Phil and Patti traveled extensively in their RV and made frequent trips to see their children and grandchildren. Phil’s creative side came out in his wood working, gardening and landscaping, and the many craft projects he did with his grandkids. He enjoyed the planning and learning involved in his hobbies and travels just as much as he enjoyed the projects and trips themselves. But most of all, he cherished his time spent with his family and grandchildren.Left to treasure his memory are his wife, Patti, of Bennington; daughter, Dana Berggren, husband Michael, and their children Caleb, Grant, and Madelyn, of Pella, IA; son, Brian Aumick, of Voorheesville, NY and his son Drew; father, Frederick Aumick, of Lawrence, KS; brother, David Aumick, of Troy, OH; sister, Joyce Claterbos, of Lawrence, KS; and several nieces and nephews.He is preceded in death by his mother, Julia “Liz” Aumick, sister-in-law, Karen Aumick, and brother-in-law, Chris Claterbos.A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Monday, October 23, 2023, at Ryan Mortuary. Mark Alan Beardslee, age 61, of Salina, KS, passed away Thursday, October 19, 2023, after a courageous battle with cancer.&nbsp;

Mark grew up in Hays, KS, where he attended Hays High School and Fort Hays State University. He lived in Bremerton, WA, Lawrence, KS, eventually settling in Salina. He enjoyed photography, painting, fishing, and billiards.&nbsp;

Mark is survived by his sisters, Kelly Ludlow of Salina, and Nancy Howard of Lawrence; his nieces, Rachel Ludlow of Glenwood, IA, Shirley Howard of Lawrence; and his nephew, Elvis Howard, also of Lawrence.

Mark is preceded in death by his parents, Carroll and Shirley (McElfresh) Beardslee, and his nephew, Ryan Ludlow, all of Hays, KS.&nbsp;

Our family is grateful to know that Mark is finally at peace. He will be dearly missed.&nbsp;

Mark will be laid to rest at Fairport Cemetery in Russell County, KS. A gathering of family and friends to celebrate his life will be announced at a later date.&nbsp;

Mark Alan Beardslee

Ila Holding Johnson, age 98, Lindsborg, KS resident, former Concordia, KS resident, passed away October 9, 2023 at the Bethany Home in Lindsborg, KS. Ila was born in Concordia, KS on October 31, 1924 to Samuel Edwin (Eddie) and Zella (Hogue) Holding. She attended Concordia schools and graduated from Concordia High School in 1942.

She received a teaching certificate from Kansas State University, Manhattan, KS and taught rural school in Cloud County. She taught at Union Starr School which was built by her great-grandfather in 1887 and the building is still standing. She also worked at the Concordia Chamber of Commerce, Pan American Airways, Miami, FL, and retired in 1991 from ERA First Realty, Englewood, FL.

On December 5, 1947, she married Marvin Johnson in Miami, FL. They later came back to Kansas to raise their family. Upon Marvin’s retirement they returned to Florida and enjoyed traveling on their sailboat around Florida and toured the United States in their motor home. She enjoyed working on her genealogy and spent many years doing research on all branches of her family.

She was Past President of American Legion Auxiliary Unit #76, Past President of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Past Worthy Matron of Harmony Chapter #2 Order of Eastern Star, Salina KS, and was a member of Peace Court #60 Order of Amaranth, Punta Gorda, FL, Myakka Chapter Daughters of American Revolution, Venice, FL and Easter Star, Englewood, FL.

She was a member of the Fellowship Christian Church, (First Christian Church) Concordia, KS

Survivors include Sons Quentin Johnson, Ellsworth, KS, Keenan (Cindy) Johnson, Overland Park, KS, Grandchildren Kiel (Amanda) Johnson, Bucyrus, KS, Adrienne (Steve) Oh, Olathe, KS and Corey Johnson, Springfield, MO, Great-Grandchildren Kaylin Johnson, Keira Johnson, Charlie Oh, and Markus Oh.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Marvin, and two children Holly and Vance.

Graveside Services will be Saturday October 21, 2023 at 11:00am at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia, KS.

Mason David Ruble was born November 15, 2002, in Salina, Kansas to David and Angie (Armstrong) Ruble. He LIVED for 20 years mostly around Minneapolis, Kansas.

He graduated from high school in 2021 with an associate degree in Diesel Mechanics from Salina Tech and worked as a mobile technician around Salina. At a young age he made a name for himself as a banjo player. His music took him coast to coast. Mason was a well-loved, authentic, inquisitive, old soul who was passionate outdoorsman.

He went home to Jesus, his Lord and Savior on Saturday, October 21, 2023.

He was preceded in death by his uncle, Jay Armstrong; paternal grandparents, Janie and Larry Ruble; and his maternal grandpa, Martin Armstrong.
