Nicholas “Nick” Henry Von Lintel, 72, of Russell, Kansas, died on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at the Russell Regional Hospital in Russell, Kansas.

Nick was born on April 16, 1951, in Hays, Kansas, the son of Lawrence and Theresa Marie (Rohleder) Von Lintel. He grew up in the Quinter area and graduated from Quinter High School in 1969. He met, fell in love, and was united in marriage to Mary Gayle Meier, on August 23, 1969, in St. Peter, Kansas. From this union they were blessed with 2 daughters Tana and Trina. They moved to Russell, Kansas in 2006, where he worked as a maintenance and repairman for the USD 407 School District. He was a longtime member with St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Russell. He enjoyed reading, working with his hands, remodeling his home himself and working on hotrods. He currently was working on his beloved 1948, Dodge Pickup and was trying to finish it before he became ill. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and being involved with his grandchildren.

Surviving family include his wife Mary of the home; daughters Tana Sells (Roger) of Russell, Kansas and Trina Yauch of Hays, Kansas; brothers Larry Von Lintel (Debi) of Goodland, Kansas and Bruce Von Lintel (Jamie) of Larned, Kansas; sisters Annette Reitmayer (Jerry) of Derby, Kansas and Kathy Blackwill (Jim) of Quinter, Kansas; 4 grandchildren Chelsea Eickhoff (Kenneth), Nick Sells, Brandon and Caden Yauch; 2 great grandchildren Karsen and Ryker Eickhoff. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A celebration of the funeral mass for Nick will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, August 03, 2023, at the St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Russell. A graveside service will be held at 3 P.M. at the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Park, Kansas. Visitation will be from 9 A.M. to 7 P.M. on Wednesday, August 02, 2023, at the mortuary. William “Bill” Bernard Weaver, 90, passed away on July 28, 2023 at Good Samaritan Society in Wamego, KS.

Bill was born on May 21, 1933 in Ellis, KS to parents Edward and Francis Brown Weaver.

He proudly served in the US Navy during the Korean War.

With only an 8th grade education, he owned and operated 2 successful businesses, Putt Putt Golf and Satisfied Flooring, both of Salina.

He was a life member of the VFW Post 1432 and American Legion Post 62 both of Salina.

He was preceded in death by his Wife, Helen (Befort) Weaver on Sept. 8, 2007 after 53 years of marriage; Brother: Raymond Weaver; 2 Grandchildren: Rebekah in 1997 and Daniel in 2005.

Jeffrey Glen Cummings, 56, of McPherson, KS and formerly of Pawhuska, OK and Prineville, OR, passed away on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at McPherson Hospital.&nbsp; He was a cook at McPherson College and previously had cooked at various restaurants and assisted living facilities.

Jeffrey was born on June 9, 1967, in Ogden, UT, the son of Glen W. and Jean R. (Kendell) Cummings.&nbsp; He attended Tooele High School in Tooele, UT.&nbsp; On May 6, 2016, Jeffrey was united in marriage to Shilo Marie La Fon in Prineville, OR.&nbsp;

Survivors include: his loving wife, Shilo La Fon of McPherson, KS; six children, Natasha, Spencer, Lillee, Cheyenne, D.J., and SkylaRae; father, Glen Cummings of Utah; mother, Jean Dunn of Tooele, UT; a brother, Dennis Cummings, and a sister, Shawna, both of Tooele, UT; two grandchildren, Jammie and Jasmine; mother-in-law, Machelle Carter of McPherson, KS; and many extended family members and friends.

SOMERSET, MA -&nbsp;Gladys Marie Macomber, 85, formerly of Fall River, passed away on Sunday, July 16, 2023. Born in Gypsum, Kansas, a daughter of the late Solomon Frank Holcom and the late Nellie Wilma (Hales) Holcom, she moved to Fall River in 2004, having also resided in Florida for a time.

A retail salesclerk for a number of years, in Salina at School Specialty Supply and at a Best Buy in Florida, Gladys had also owned a janitorial business in Salina providing housekeeping services for doctors and Asbury Hospital.

An avid reader, Gladys also enjoyed cooking, canning, quilting, and gardening.

She is survived by her four children, Deborah Viveiros of Fall River, Tonya McConnell of Topeka, Kansas, Russell E. Macomber and husband Kevin Haertling of Orlando, Florida, and Victoria Lynn Macomber of Sanford, Florida; a sister, Jean Stanton of Wichita, Kansas; six grandchildren, Renee, Shawn, Christian, Niko, Anthony, and Michael; eight great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Gladys was also a sister of the late Hannah Grill, Teddie Holcom, and Mildred Tharp.

Kelly Chestnutt&nbsp;was born Oct. 18, 1958, in Hoisington, Kansas. Kelly passed away on July 25, 2023, in her home.

Kelly was married to Jim Chestnutt, her high school sweetheart, and they had just celebrated there 45th year of marriage on June 10th.

Kelly was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and friend.

She loved to work and had worked for K-mart for 20+ years before going to work for Crestwood, Dillons, and she also bartended at a few bars in Salina.

Kelly is preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Barbara Randolph; uncles; aunts; and cousins.

She is survived by her husband, Jim; son, Dustin Chestnutt; sisters, Nikki Snell and Raynetta Hubbard; brother, Robert Randolph; granddaughter, Kyla Chestnutt; and nieces and nephews.

Dennis Lee Embrey, 60, of McPherson, KS, passed away on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at McPherson Hospital.&nbsp; He worked at Central Plastics and held the title of line setup operator.&nbsp; He was one of few employees on 2nd&nbsp;shift that covered more than one title.&nbsp; He worked as a material handler for several years, as well as a line operator and line prep.&nbsp; He also would be called upon to train new employees for each of these positions.&nbsp;

Dennis was born on August 5, 1962, in Chamberlain, SD, the son of Lewis Lawrance and Janice Louise (Kelley) Embrey.&nbsp; He graduated from McPherson High School in 1980.

Survivors include: his parents, Lewis &amp; Janice Embrey of Lindsborg, KS; a sister, Connie Stark (Claus) of Smithville, MO; a son, Steven Embrey of Schulenburg, TX; a daughter, Megan Valenta (Garrett) of Moundridge, KS; step-children, Brooks Johnson of McPherson, KS, Zach Johnson of McPherson, KS, Chad Richert (Justin Cook) of Kansas City, MO, AshLeigh Brodin of Kansas City, MO, and Sierra Kerbs of Joplin, MO; a niece, Marissa Stark of Lafayette, CO; four grandchildren, Daniel Scott, Gabe Embrey, Nathan Scott, and Zoey Scott; his beloved dogs, Skylar and Riley; and numerous extended family members and friends.

Dennis Lee Embrey

Edyth Rae Deckard - (Edie), age 72 of Emory TX, went to be with Our Lord in Heaven on July 3, 2023 in Tyler TX. &nbsp;

Edie was born on June 9, 1951 in Cuba KS to Edward and Helen Shulda. &nbsp;She was a 1969 graduate of Hillcrest High School in Cuba KS. &nbsp;After graduation, Edie attended nursing school. &nbsp;She worked at St. Joseph Hospital and several other medical clinics in the Concordia KS area.&nbsp;

In 2006 Bernie and Edie moved to Texas to enjoy lake life, and she continued her nursing career at Trinity Mother Frances clinics until retirement. &nbsp;Edie enjoyed dancing, singing, clogging and many pets along with spending time outdoors. &nbsp;She also enjoyed making floral arrangements, camping and fishing. &nbsp;She was an avid birdwatcher and loved nature, including all of the wildlife that would run through the yard.&nbsp;

Blanche Lavone Clark, 97, of Salina, passed away Tuesday, July 25th, 2023. Lavone was born in Wichita, Kansas on March 11, 1926, a daughter of Bessie MayBelle (Milleson) and Carl Vernon Nelson. On October 10, 1944, Lavone married Herbert Clark in Salina.&nbsp; She worked as a Clerk in the Appraisal Office for Saline County and retired in 1986 after 20 years. Lavone was a member of the Belmont Boulevard Christian Church, was President of the Peace Officers Women's Auxiliary, and she was also an avid cross stitcher. Survivors include her daughter, Lorene Burch, (Roger), of Salina; three sons, Dennis Clark, (Jill), of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Bill Clark, (Cathy), of Salina, Bob Clark, (Marian), of Colorado Springs, Colorado. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, 16 great great grandchildren, and her best friend, Kermit. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Herb; and sister, Orise Halford. Helen Irene Zimmerman, age 102, passed away on Thursday, July 20,2023, in Lakewood, Colorado,

She was born in Russell, Kansas May 4,1921 to Adam Fose and Kathrine Schneider. She worked as clerk and bookkeeper for several businesses in Russell and was Worthy Matron of Eastern Star.

Helen married Dean Zimmerman June 6, 1939. They were married for 68 years. Dean and Helen ran the Sky-Vu Drive In theatre in Russell for 32 years.

She was preceded in death by husband, Dean, daughter, Gwen Writer and son, Fred Zimmerman.

Helen is survived by daughter, Mitzi (Leo) Stambaugh of Denver, four grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.

A private family burial will take place at the Russell City Cemetery in Russell, Kansas. Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.

Joyce Moore Rich, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and best friend, departed this world to be united with her beloved husband Donald in eternal rest on the evening of Wednesday, July 19, 2023 surrounded by her family at Salina Regional Health Center. Joyce's life on earth began July 2nd, 1930 at a farm home in Clark County, KS. She was the youngest of 6 children born to Henry and Ellen (Godfrey) Moore and grew up on their farm. Her parents instilled in each of their children the principles of love for family, setting of goals and the hard work required for achievement.

Joyce graduated with honors from Englewood High School and earned a two-year scholarship at Southwestern College, Winfield. She later earned third year credits at Kansas State University, Ft Riley and Salina. On June 30, 1962, she was united in marriage with Donald D. Rich in her parents' rose garden at their home in Dodge City. During their married life and in working years, Joyce and her family lived in Dodge City, Wakefield and Salina. After their retirement, Joyce and Donald lived many happy years at Kanopolis Lake, boating, water skiing, and fishing with their family. When Donald's health failed, they returned to Salina in July 1999.

After college, Joyce began her working years in the Dodge City law office of Governor Fred Hall when he launched his political campaign. When he moved to Topeka, Joyce entered U.S. Federal Service, combining over 35 years with the Social Security Administration, Soil Conservation Service, U.S. Army Readiness Group Ft Riley, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Milford Lake, and retired from the U.S. Postal Service and State of Kansas.

Above all, Joyce loved her family and her greatest joy was "grandparenting" -- being loving, active participants in her children's and grand children's lives - celebrating birthdays, church performances, school honors nights, graduations, vocal and band concerts, YMCA soccer, cross country, track, baseball and basketball games. In addition to her love of family, Joyce enjoyed country/western music and shows, dancing, politics, boating, camping, and traveling.

Joyce was a member of Salina First United Methodist Church, Gracefinders Sunday School Class, United Methodist Women, a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Salina Post 1432, and the Salina Chapter of the National Association of Active &amp; Retired Federal Employees (NARFE).

Preceding Joyce in death were her beloved husband Donald of 45 years, her parents and grandparents; sisters Helen (Moore) Hartzfeld, and Irene (Moore) Churning; brothers Wayne, Arnold and Gene; nephew Kenneth Churning ; sisters-in-law Opal (Frank) Moore, Marie (Springer) Moore, LaVera (Vasey) Moore, and Orma (Rich) Courbot; brothers-in-law Melvin Hartzfeld, Carl Churning Sr, Edward Courbot, Ronald Rich and Earl Rich; and her best friend and companion of many years, Dale McClaskey.

Survivors include daughters: Penny Montgomery and husband Jeffrey and Cindy Short and husband Jerry; four grandsons: Dylan Hoffman, Zachary Montgomery and wife Kennedy, Jackson Montgomery and fiancé Kendall Schlesener and Nicholas Montgomery and partner Chip Roberts; two granddaughters; Sivonna Williams and partner Tristen Hale and Emma Bradley and husband Owen; two step-grandsons: D.J. and wife  Brooklyn and Tyler Short; step-granddaughter: Lakyn Short; 2 great-granddaughters: Raelyn Hoffman and Liliana Hale; one great-grandson: Liam Hale; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Larry E. Dossett, 61, of McPherson, KS, passed away on Sunday, July 23, 2023, at his residence.&nbsp; He had been battling cancer for the past three years.&nbsp;

Larry was born on June 9, 1962, in McPherson, KS, the son of Anson William and Eleanor Elaine (Newman) Dossett.&nbsp; He graduated from McPherson High School in 1980 and furthered his education at Kansas State University and Garden City Community College.&nbsp;

He was a bull rider in the rodeo circuit for 25 years.&nbsp; He also worked in fabrication at Moridge Manufacturing for 15 years and was a cook at McDonalds for 30 years.

He attended the McPherson Free Methodist Church.

On July 16, 2005, Larry was united in marriage to Pauline M. Johnson at the McPherson Free Methodist Church.&nbsp;

Survivors include: his loving wife, Pauline of the home; father, Anson (Peggy) Dossett of McPherson, KS; a brother, Keith Dossett of McPherson, KS; two sisters, Darla (Jeff) Jenkins of Las Cruces, NM and Susan Dossett of McPherson, KS; a brother-in-law, John Johnson of McPherson, KS; three nephews; three nieces; one great-nephew; and many more extended family members and friends.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his mother, Eleanor Dossett; parents-in-law, J. Dean and Shirley Johnson; and brother-in-law, Ronald J. Johnson.

Betty Ann (Balloun) Boxberger, 90, of Russell, Kansas, passed peacefully Sunday, July 23, 2023 at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas, with her family by her side.

Betty was born on March 1, 1933, in Russell.&nbsp; She was the daughter of Rudolph George and Mabelle (Britt) Balloun.&nbsp; She spent the first year of her life in Gorham, Kansas.&nbsp; Thereafter, her family moved to Russell.&nbsp; Betty was baptized in Trinity United Methodist Church.&nbsp; She grew up and attended schools in Russell; graduating from Russell High School in 1951.&nbsp; Betty then attended and graduated from Central Business College in Denver, Colorado.&nbsp; She went to work for the Bureau of Reclamation in Denver.&nbsp; Betty returned to Russell in December 1953.&nbsp; In March 1954, she met and fell in love with Dean H. Boxberger.&nbsp; After a 7-week courtship, they were united in marriage on May 16, 1954, in St. John Lutheran Church.&nbsp; From this union, they were blessed with five sons; Matthew, Mark, Thomas, Timothy and Scott.&nbsp; Betty joined and was confirmed in St. John Lutheran Church.&nbsp; While their sons were growing up, Betty chose to be a stay-at-home Mom.&nbsp; She enjoyed being the room mother, cub scout den mother, 4-H Leader, and volunteering in any activity that her family was involved with.&nbsp; Throughout her life she did secretarial work for the Bureau of Reclamation; Sohio Oil company; Harold McCombs, Attorney; Ostrum &amp; Balloun, Attorneys; St. John Lutheran Church; Russell High School; State Farm Insurance; and Russell County Extension Office.&nbsp; She also worked many years for USD 407 as a special education paraprofessional.&nbsp; Betty loved music and played the piano during many of her younger years.&nbsp; She loved God and was strong in her faith.&nbsp; She was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church, serving on the Altar Guild, in the Sunday School, Prayer Shawl Ministry, member of Martha Circle, and several other volunteer jobs in her church and community.&nbsp; She was treasurer for the Russell Roughriders and treasurer and board member of the Russell County Food Pantry.&nbsp; She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and VFW Ladies Auxiliary.&nbsp; Her greatest joy was her family.&nbsp; Betty and Dean shared 69 years of marriage.&nbsp; She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and traveling with her family.&nbsp; She enjoyed cooking, knitting, bowling, playing bridge and crafts.

Betty’s surviving family include her husband Dean of the home; sons, Matthew Boxberger (Genevieve) of San Jose, California, Mark Boxberger (Amy) of Noblesville, Indiana, Thomas Boxberger (Sheri) of Lawrence, Kansas, Timothy Boxberger (Dylan Palma) of Russell, Kansas and Scott Boxberger (Desiree) of Overland Park, Kansas; grandchildren, George, Joe, Betsy, Jakob, Elyse, Gretchen, Cassie, Joshua, and Jenna;&nbsp; great grandson, Rami; brother, Gene Balloun (Sheila Wombles) of Lenexa, Kansas; step sister, Joanne Grandstaff (Carl) of Hoisington, Kansas; several nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, George R. Balloun, Lloyd L. Balloun and Robert Balloun; sister-in-laws, Violetta Balloun, Nancy Balloun, Pat Balloun and Patty Balloun.

Boxberger.&nbsp; After a 7-week courtship, they were united in marriage on May 16, 1954, in St. John Lutheran Church.&nbsp; From this union, they were blessed with five sons; Matthew, Mark, Thomas, Timothy and Scott.&nbsp; Betty joined and was confirmed in St. John Lutheran Church.&nbsp; While their sons were growing up, Betty chose to be a stay-at-home Mom.&nbsp; She enjoyed being the room mother, cub scout den mother, 4-H Leader, and volunteering in any activity that her family was involved with.&nbsp; Throughout her life she did secretarial work for the Bureau of Reclamation; Sohio Oil company; Harold McCombs, Attorney; Ostrum &amp; Balloun, Attorneys; St. John Lutheran Church; Russell High School; State Farm Insurance; and Russell County Extension Office.&nbsp; She also worked many years for USD 407 as a special education paraprofessional.&nbsp; Betty loved music and played the piano during many of her younger years.&nbsp; She loved God and was strong in her faith.&nbsp; She was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church, serving on the Altar Guild, in the Sunday School, Prayer Shawl Ministry, member of Martha Circle, and several other volunteer jobs in her church and community.&nbsp; She was treasurer for the Russell Roughriders and treasurer and board member of the Russell County Food Pantry.&nbsp; She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and VFW Ladies Auxiliary.&nbsp; Her greatest joy was her family.&nbsp; Betty and Dean shared 69 years of marriage.&nbsp; She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and traveling with her family.&nbsp; She enjoyed cooking, knitting, bowling, playing bridge and crafts.Betty’s surviving family include her husband Dean of the home; sons, Matthew Boxberger (Genevieve) of San Jose, California, Mark Boxberger (Amy) of Noblesville, Indiana, Thomas Boxberger (Sheri) of Lawrence, Kansas, Timothy Boxberger (Dylan Palma) of Russell, Kansas and Scott Boxberger (Desiree) of Overland Park, Kansas; grandchildren, George, Joe, Betsy, Jakob, Elyse, Gretchen, Cassie, Joshua, and Jenna;&nbsp; great grandson, Rami; brother, Gene Balloun (Sheila Wombles) of Lenexa, Kansas; step sister, Joanne Grandstaff (Carl) of Hoisington, Kansas; several nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends.Betty was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, George R. Balloun, Lloyd L. Betty Ann (Balloun) Boxberger

Warren Leon Otte left this world on Sunday, May 21, 2023 at the age of 76.&nbsp; He will be sadly missed and will always hold a place in our hearts.

Warren was always interested in how things worked and Grace often shared stories of his interest in her small appliances; taking them apart and only occasionally returning them to their original working condition. This was only the beginning of his love of electronics which led him to a career as a pioneer in the field of computer technology.

After graduating Downs High School in 1964, he attended the Denver Electronic Institute and learned to repair electronic typewriters.&nbsp; In 1970, he studied integrated circuits (microchips) technology and computer wiring at an IBM technical school, which led to relocating to California and a job in Silicon Valley.&nbsp; His career not only took him across the country but internationally, including many trips to Korea, Japan, and Australia.

He retired and returned to Downs after the passing of his mother in 2014.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Grace, and his brother Weldon.

He is survived by his wife, Anne Mather Otte, his children Kristi Gamble (Scott), Janna Frederick, Kate Knight (Darrick) and Melissa Otte and eleven grandchildren: Jacalyn Gamble, Jessica Gamble, Jennifer Schmitt (Dustin), Charles Nathan Frederick (Erin Bandy), Taysja Sevilla, Trennon Sevilla, Tyson Sevilla, Talon Sevilla, Hayden Otte, Tegan Woodall, and Danny Woodall.

Glen R. Gutka, age 75, entered into rest on Monday, July 24, 2023 at the Salina Regional Health Center, Salina, Kansas.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was born on July 7, 1948 to Robert and Mary (Elder) Gutka in Denver, Colorado.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Glen attended grade school in Hedville, Kansas and then going to high school in Brookville, Kansas, until moving to the Aurora community.&nbsp;&nbsp;Glen was a 1965 graduate of Miltonvale High&nbsp;&nbsp;School, Miltonvale, Kansas.

He served in the United States Army in Germany and later he was sent and served in the Vietnam War.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was honorably discharged.

Glen worked in the construction business for BJ Koetting, LLC for 27 years.&nbsp;&nbsp;He also farmed with his brother Gary and owned and operated their own custom swathing and bailing operation.

Glen enjoyed fishing, camping, and mostly working on the farm.

He is survived by his brother, Gary Gutka, Aurora, KS; and several cousins.

He was preceded by his parents and a brother, John.

Visitation will be held from 9-10:30 a.m., Monday morning before service time.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 31, 2023 at the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia, Kansas, with Pastor Dwight Whitead officiating.&nbsp;

Carol J. Norris, 79, of McPherson, KS, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, surrounded by family at Angel Arms, McPherson.&nbsp;

Carol was born on June 25, 1944, in Haddam, KS, the daughter of Kenneth Elvin and Louisa Jane (Nieman) Rhine.&nbsp; She graduated from Haddam High School and attended Emporia State University.&nbsp; On June 20, 1964, Carol was united in marriage to Robert “Bob” Henry Norris in Haddam, KS.&nbsp; This union was blessed with a daughter, Kendra.&nbsp; Bob preceded Carol in death on March 1, 2018.

Carol owned and operated McPherson Answering Service and McPherson Cab Company.&nbsp; She attended Countryside Covenant Church.

Survivors include: her daughter, Kendra Kuchta (Donald) of McPherson, KS; six grandchildren, Preston Diederich (Allie), Misti Unruh (Landon), Kali Graber (Zach), D.J. Hilzer (Lucy), Skyler Hilzer (Amanda), and Nikki Smith (Trevor); 15 great-grandchildren; half-siblings, Susan “Sue” Peltier (David) of Concordia, KS, Linda Friess (J.D.) of Neodesha, KS, Robert “Bobby” Mahurin of Sparks, NV, Janet “DeeDee” Blair of Modesto, CA, and Jean Mahurin of Millbrae, CA; and many extended family members and friends.

Roy Don Wright, 81, of Luray, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, July 18, 2023, at the Russell Regional Hospital in Russell, Kansas.

Don was born August 1, 1941 in Kansas City, Missouri. The son of Henry and Edith (Pasmore) Wright. He grew up in Kansas City until the age of five when his family moved to Shenandoah, Iowa. After five years they returned to the Kansas City area. Then, in high school, his family moved to Santa Ana, California where he graduated from high school. Don served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1959 to 1962. He served on the USS Matthews, a cargo ship. After his tour he returned to Santa Ana.

Don was united in marriage to Lynne Fenton on September 28, 1962 in Costa Mesa, California. This union was blessed with a son, Thomas. They were given over 60 years of marriage together. Most of these years were filled with hard work, but also much love and devotion. They were a team, increasingly aware with the passage of time that the Lord held them in His hands. They lived in Washington state, southern Kansas, eastern Oregon, Arkansas, and then moved to Luray in 2003.

Don was blessed with the ability to do many things during his life. He was a truck driver, a mill man at a feed yard, a cutter-grader at Marvin Wood Products in Oregon, a welder, owner and operator of the “Hob Nob” restaurant in Protection, Kansas. He was a member of the Amherst Church. He enjoyed fishing, outdoor photography, traveling with Lynne and creating originally designed greeting cards. Don was unassuming, usually more at home in the background. He put a high value on friendship and was willing to go the extra mile in any way he could.

Don is with the Lord now, joyful and free of any sorrow or pain. He loved his family from the depths of his heart. He leaves behind his wife Lynne of the home; son, Thomas Wright and wife Heather of Pratt, Kansas; as well as cousins, nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert Wright; and sisters, Ruth Showalter and Betty Smith.

A Graveside service will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, July 21, 2023 at the Amherst Cemetery in rural Russell County. No visitation is being held. A Memorial has been established with Amherst Church. Deryl Dean Marsell, 86, of Salina, Kan., passed away Wednesday, July 12, 2023. He was born on June 25, 1937, in Green, Kan., to George and Edna (Lowry) Marsell.

Deryl graduated high school in Ada, Kan., and attended Fort Hays State University before enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1956. He was a career federal employee and retired from the U.S. Postal Service in Springfield, Mo. In retirement, he volunteered at CoxHealth Medical Center for 22 years. He and his wife, Mary, loved to travel, seeing 48 of the 50 states. His idea of fun consisted of playing all types of games, working on crossword puzzles, playing golf, and dancing and singing with Mary. He was a BIG KU basketball fan and loved the St. Louis Cardinals too. His great sense of humor will be missed the most.

Survivors include his sons, Darren Marsell (Kris), of Lorraine, Kan., Doug Marsell (Karen), of Russell, Kan., and Kent Pack, of Kansas City, Kan.; daughters, Rhonda Carryer (Robert), of Ogden, Kan., and Kim Pack, of California; 16 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary (Skala) Marsell; and sisters, Mildred Russell, Wanda Andrews, and her husband, John.

The visitation will be from 12-8 p.m. on Friday, July 28, with family present from 5-8, at Ryan Mortuary, Salina. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 29, at Ryan Mortuary. Deryl will be laid to rest next to Mary at White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Springfield, Mo.

Dr. Milo “Mike” Goss Sloo, III, 81, of Salina, passed away Tuesday, June 6, 2023 at Presbyterian Manor with his loving wife Carol Ann by his side.

Mike was born July 31, 1941 in Topeka, KS to Milo G. Sloo, Jr. and Betty Margaret (Adams) Sloo. He graduated from Topeka High School in 1959 and received a BA from the University of Kansas in 1963. He went on to pursue a career in medicine, graduating from the University of Kansas Medical school in 1967, interned at St. Luke’s Hospital, Kansas City, MO 1967-68, and completed residency at Dickson-Diveley Clinic, Kansas City, MO 1968-72 (St. Luke’s Hospital, Children’s Mercy Hospital, General Hospital, V.A. Hospital). He received his Orthopaedic Surgery Board Certification in 1973, and served as a Major in the U.S. Army Medical Corps until 1974.

Mike was an orthopaedic surgeon in Salina for 33 years, and performed more than 17,000 major surgeries since the start of practice in 1974. During his career, he served as Asbury Chief of Staff, managing partner of Orthopaedic Clinic of Salina, President of Salina Surgical hospital, President of SSH Real Estate, Rotarian and recognized Paul Harris fellow, Board member of Bank VI, President of Salina Imaging Center, and Kansas State Board member of Healing Arts. He was also part of many professional organizations including the Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation, Kansas Medical Society, Kansas Orthopaedic Society, Saline County Medical Society, American Medical Association, and American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

Outside of his professional life, Mike loved to travel with Carol Ann, spend time with his grandkids, visit an occasional car show, and meet weekly with friends in a retired doctors coffee group he started back in 2007. Mike was a philanthropist at heart and supported many charitable organizations. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and served as a board member of the church’s Foundation, Greater Salina Community Foundation, Salina Presbyterian Manor’s board, and focused on education efforts through the KU endowment Chancellor’s Club and Williams Education Fund. He invested time, energy, and financial backing to KU School of Medicine-Salina since its opening in 2011 and passionately said, “I feel that I should be a good steward of the things God has given me in life. What better way than to help train brilliant, young minds to be physicians?”

Mike will be remembered as kind, compassionate, generous, intelligent, quick witted, and a lifelong learner. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Ann; children, Mark Sloo (Mindy), Suzanne Sloo, Laurie Constable Orosco (Cesar); sister, Martha Kruckemyer (Dr. Alan); brother-in-law, David Claus (Becky); grandchildren, Myranda Sloo, Ayva Sloo, Keefe Bateman, Nicholas Orosco, Matthew Orosco; and nephews/niece, David Kruckemyer, Brian Kruckemyer, Lisa Claus.

Virginia (Garman) Pettit, 84, of Hueytown, AL passed away on Friday, July 14, 2023, at&nbsp;Self Care Health &amp; Rehab, Hueytown, AL.

Virginia was born on August 9, 1938, on her parent’s farm north of Burr Oak, Kansas, the daughter of Robert and Helen (Miller) Garman.&nbsp; She spent her earlier years playing and working on the farm with her Brother’s and Sister’s (Jean, Robert, Daniel and Sandra).&nbsp;&nbsp;Her cherished memory was getting to go to the wheat fields to ride on the tractor with her dad when she was little.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;A couple of her fondest memories with her siblings growing up was listening to the Grand Ol’ Opery show on a battery-operated radio, playing Andy andy over and on Saturday nights the whole family would load up in the car and drive into Guide Rock NE to the dances.

She attended and graduated from Burr Oak High School in 1956.

Her pride and joy were her three son’s and a daughter (Robert, Douglas, Janet and Steven) she was blessed with through the years. Along with becoming a Grandma of 7 Grandchildren (Lindsey, Lexis, Stephanie, Samantha, Wyatt, and Joshua. 9 Great-grandchildren (Eloise, Jaden, Annalise, Jo, Grayson, ZaRiyah, Cobe, Connor, and Liam).

On October 3rd, 1987 she married her childhood playmate David Pettit, who lived right up the road when they were growing up.

Always an entrepreneur at heart, through the years Virginia owned and operated 4 restaurants and an antique store in Nebraska and Kansas. She often joked that she and Dave retired and moved back to Mankato, Kansas, and retirement only lasted a few months. She saw that Bob’s Inn in Mankato had closed down. She purchased it and came out of retirement to operate it. In 2007 Virginia and Dave sold Bob’s Inn and finally retired for the final time. Never to let the grass grow under her feet, she would take order and bake kolache’s from her home during retirement. She also wrote and published her own cookbook during retirement.

Virginia loved her dog Twiggy and she also enjoyed having people come over and play cards, fishing, reading, cooking, and word puzzle books.&nbsp;&nbsp;

&nbsp;Virginia loved Jesus and attended various churches through the years. As a little girl of 8, her Aunt &amp; Uncle who were Missionaries came to visit. They took her to a tent revival meeting. A day that changed her life forever, as she walked down the aisle to the Old Rugged Cross being sung. She asked Jesus to be her Lord and Savior.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Patricia A. Youngdahl passed away at her home July 5, 2023. She was born July 3, 1952 in Salina, KS to Darrell and Dorcas (Smith) Nelson.

Living all her life in the New Cambria and Salina area, she attended school in Solomon, KS. She was united in marriage June 3, 1994 to Dale L. Youngdahl who preceded her in death in 1997.&nbsp; Pat attended Salina Vo-Tech obtaining her certification as a nurse's aide after which she worked in several local nursing homes.&nbsp; She also worked at Rema Bakeware and Salina Regional Health Center in the laundry.&nbsp; She was a member of Emmanuel Church, Salina. Her focus in life was caring for others and her family, especially her nieces and nephews.

Pat was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and one brother, Steve Nelson. She is survived by her brothers, Larry (Claudia) Nelson, Ron (Deb) Nelson, Randy (Cindy) Nelson, all of New Cambria and many loving nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

Barbara E. Wallace, 80, of McPherson, KS, passed away on Friday, July 7, 2023, at her vacation home in Dubois, WY.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Barbara was born on February 14, 1943, at the Menorah Hospital in Kansas City, MO, the daughter of James and Ruth (Gordon) Benson.&nbsp; She spent her earlier years in Russellville, MO, attending school and enjoying summers with her grandparents, aunts, and uncles.&nbsp; She either attended the &nbsp;Church of Christ there in Russellville or in Kansas City, KS.&nbsp; Following graduation from Wyandotte High School (Kansas City, KS) in 1961, she began working as a secretary for a local business.&nbsp;

On July 26, 1968, Barbara married Larry Roland Wallace in Kansas City, MO.&nbsp; Larry had a daughter, Kimberly, and Barbara welcomed her with open arms.&nbsp; At this time, Larry was the general manager for Gene Cable Chevrolet.&nbsp; On March 3, 1974, Larry and Barbara were blessed with the birth of their son, Chris.&nbsp; The family lived in the Kansas City area until April 1978, when they moved to McPherson, KS and purchased Turner Chevrolet, which would later become Wallace Chevrolet-Oldsmobile, Inc.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Larry and Barbara enjoyed traveling together.&nbsp; They visited many places in the United States including Alaska and Hawaii.&nbsp; They also traveled to Canada, Asia, Europe, Africa, and the Caribbean.&nbsp; They also made many trips to Kansas City, Nevada, Missouri, and Colorado Springs to visit family.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Barbara enjoyed fishing with Larry, working puzzles, and bird watching, having marked many pages in her bird book.&nbsp; Barbara and Larry purchased their vacation home in Dubois, WY, and soon, the mountains became her favorite place to be.&nbsp; She had numerous hummingbird feeders out and enjoyed watching deer in their yard.

Her pride and joy were her six grandchildren, Megan, Eric, Tiffany, Trisha, Alayna, and Hayden.&nbsp; She loved spending time with them and attending their many activities.&nbsp; She even had a separate grandchildren calendar just to record all their activities, never wanting to miss an event.&nbsp; She enjoyed playing games with them. Some of the favorite games were Pitch, Stinko, and Solitaire.&nbsp; As the grandchildren got older, she would wait by the phone for their calls.

Barbara especially enjoyed Christmas eve, breaking out the Christmas carol books and singing with the family.&nbsp; Watching the grandchildren perform and open presents was a special highlight of hers.&nbsp; Her family would insist on Thanksgiving and Christmas be at her house every year as she was known for her “silver trays” full of various sides to go with the turkey and ham.

Wallace, 80, of McPherson, KS, passed away on Friday, July 7, 2023, at her vacation home in Dubois, WY.&nbsp;&nbsp;Barbara was born on February 14, 1943, at the Menorah Hospital in Kansas City, MO, the daughter of James and Ruth (Gordon) Benson.&nbsp; She spent her earlier years in Russellville, MO, attending school and enjoying summers with her grandparents, aunts, and uncles.&nbsp; She either attended the &nbsp;Church of Christ there in Russellville or in Kansas City, KS.&nbsp; Following graduation from Wyandotte High School (Kansas City, KS) in 1961, she began working as a secretary for a local business.&nbsp;On July 26, 1968, Barbara married Larry Roland Wallace in Kansas City, MO.&nbsp; Larry had a daughter, Kimberly, and Barbara welcomed her with open arms.&nbsp; At this time, Larry was the general manager for Gene Cable Chevrolet.&nbsp; On March 3, 1974, Larry and Barbara were blessed with the birth of their son, Chris.&nbsp; The family lived in the Kansas City area until April 1978, when they moved to McPherson, KS and purchased Turner Chevrolet, which would later become Wallace Chevrolet-Oldsmobile, Inc.&nbsp;&nbsp;Larry and Barbara enjoyed traveling together.&nbsp; They visited many places in the United States including Alaska and Hawaii.&nbsp; They also traveled to Canada, Asia, Europe, Africa, and the Caribbean.&nbsp; They also made many trips to Kansas City, Nevada, Missouri, and Colorado Springs to visit family.&nbsp;&nbsp;Barbara enjoyed fishing with Larry, working puzzles, and bird watching, having marked many pages in her bird book.&nbsp; Barbara and Larry purchased their vacation home in Dubois, WY, and soon, the mountains became her favorite place to be.&nbsp; She had numerous hummingbird feeders out and enjoyed watching deer in their yard.Her pride and joy were her six grandchildren, Megan, Eric, Tiffany, Trisha, Alayna, and Hayden.&nbsp; She loved spending time with them and attending their many activities.&nbsp; She even had a separate grandchildren calendar just to record all their activities, never wanting to miss an event.&nbsp; She enjoyed playing games with them. Some of the favorite games were Pitch, Stinko, and Solitaire.&nbsp; As the grandchildren got older, she would wait by the phone for their calls.Barbara especially enjoyed Christmas eve, breaking out the Christmas carol books and singing with the family.&nbsp; Watching the grandchildren perform and open presents was a special highlight of hers.&nbsp; Her family would insist on Thanksgiving and Christmas be at her house every year as she was known for her “silver trays” full of various sides to go with the turkey and ham.Attending her P.E.O. Chapter HI meetings, swimming with the neighbors, attending McPherson Opera House shows, and getting her hair done were some of her other favorites.&nbsp; A memorable evening at the McPherson Opera House was meeting and visiting with Larry Gatlin and The Gatlin Brothers.&nbsp; She even had her picture taken with them.&nbsp;Barbara loved God and was a member of McPherson Church of Christ.&nbsp;&nbsp;Survivors include: children, Kimberly (Evan) McHugh of Knoxville, TN and Chris (Catrina) Wallace of Moundridge, KS; and six grandchildren, Megan McHugh of the Netherlands, Eric McHugh of Knoxville, TN, Tiffany McChesney of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Trisha McHugh of Indianapolis, IN, Alayna Wallace of Kansas City, MO, and Hayden Wallace of Moundridge, KS.She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and siblings, Linda Maurer and Gordon Benson.The family will receive friends&nbsp;from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Friday, July 28, 2023, at Stockham Family Funeral Home.&nbsp; A private graveside service will be held at McPherson Cemetery.Memorial donations can be made to McPherson County Community Foundation (MCCF) for the Larry Wallace Nursing Scholarship Fund, McPherson church of Christ Scholarship Fund, or the McPherson Opera House in care of Stockham Family Funeral Home,&nbsp;205 North Chestnut, McPherson, KS 67460.Personal condolences may be sent to the family at&nbsp;<a href="http://www.stockhamfamily.com/">www.stockhamfamily.com</a>.
