Jerry Hillyard, 83, of Salina, passed over to be with his loving parents Kenneth and Sadie Hillyard on Tuesday, June 16, 2020. Jerry was born with Cerebral Palsy, but never let that slow him down. He was a kind and giving soul who reached out to many friends, family and strangers.

He enjoyed being a route driver for Ideal Cleaners, delivering newspapers for the Salina Journal on Highland Street, working for OCCK, and volunteering for First Presbyterian Church, Salina Rescue Mission and Emergency Aid Food Bank.

Jerry was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church, resident at Salina Presbyterian Manor, and an avid Chinese Checker player.

Graveside services were held for Jerry at Roselawn Memorial Park, and he will be missed by the many lives he touched.

Kenneth Eugene Boaz, 92, of Salina, passed away Tuesday, June 16, 2020. He was born September 9, 1927 in Decatur, Illinois.

At seventeen he joined the Navy and served until 1954. While in service in Japan, he met his future wife, Betty Kuwano.&nbsp; They were married 72 years and had nine children.&nbsp;

Dad had many friends, with whom he golfed, fished, hunted, and played cards.&nbsp; He loved to tell stories and be with them, even to the very end of his days.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Boaz, children, Elizabeth Polly, Cathy Boaz (Aloha), Genie Boaz, Karl Boaz (Becky), Rose Davied (Joe), Mitch Boaz (Jewel), Marla Boaz (Jeff), Denise Boaz; 13 grandchildren; and 8 great grandchildren.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rolla and Ethel (Casey) Boaz; son, Curtis Boaz.&nbsp; Because of Covid-19, there will be no services at this time.

The family would like to thank his caregivers and friends at Smoky Hill Rehabilitation for their continual love and care during his time there.

Jimmy Frank Dow received his final promotion to glory on June 16, 2020.

He was born July 1, 1943 to Bill Frank and Naomi Mary (Stephenson) Dow in Belleville Kansas.

Jimmy attended Belleville High School graduating May 1961. Enlisted in the Army in 1961, Company D of the 1st Infantry Division’s 28th Infantry, 1st Battle Group (Big Red 1). Completed combat-in-cities training in Berlin Germany near the East-West Berlin border. Jimmy was a lifetime active member of the VFW.

Jimmy met the love of his life, Sherry Irene while stationed in Riley Kansas. They were married, August 23, 1964. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary August 2014, before she passed February 2015. Jimmy and Sherry have two children, Angie (Wayne) Telford and Jimmy F. Dow, Jr. Two grandchildren, Melissa Telford (Clinton Crawford) and Christopher Telford.

Jimmy’s career after the Army was dedicated to the transportation of petroleum. He first worked for Herman Brother’s as a fuel truck driver out of Superior, NE. Then worked as a “pumper/operations coordinator” monitoring and controlling the flow of fuel through lines in the US from the Midwest to the Southern Coast for Champlin Petroleum. After the closure of Champlin Oil Jimmy then began working for Explorer Pipeline in Greenville TX, Port Arthur TX, and Glenpool OK before retiring from Explorer’s home office in Tulsa, OK.&nbsp;

Celebration of life will be held Saturday June 20, with visitation available from 9:00AM to beginning of service at 2:00PM, Bachelor-Surber Memorial Chapel, Belleville, KS.,&nbsp;with Jacob Rice, Officiating, Central Christian Church. The family then invites friends to join them at Rocky Pond to celebrate Jim’s life with a potluck meal and to pop open a cold one!

Steven Wayne King 65, Webber, Kansas passed away at his home on June 13, 2020.&nbsp; Steven King was born February 4, 1955 at St. Mary's Hospital in Emporia, Kansas , the son of Wayne E. and Wanda (Gardner) King.&nbsp;

Surviving family members include his mother, Wanda and step father, Lowell Chambers, Emporia, KS. step daughter April (Brian) Collicott, grandsons, Michael and Nickolas Collicott, Hastings, NE; sisters, Susan (Daniel) Johnson, Emporia, KS and Linda (Jim) Cunningham, Topeka, KS; nieces and nephews, Jill, Matt, Carla, Randall &amp; Marsha and many other family members and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Wayne Edgar King in 1986 and his grandparents of Burlington, KS.

He attended Butcher Children's School, Roosevelt Jr. High and graduated Emporia High School in 1973.&nbsp; Sports was a big part of his life, participating in sports in school, and Catcher in&nbsp; Little League Baseball and Legion Baseball Teams in Emporia.&nbsp;

Steve was baptized in Emporia Grace United Methodist Church in 1955 and active&nbsp; through the years in Sunday School, Youth Group and a member of&nbsp; Boy Scout Troop 165, reaching the rank of Life Scout.&nbsp; His Scout Master was Lowell Chambers.&nbsp; Steve loved the out-of-doors and God's creation of nature; fishing and hunting whenever time and weather permitted.&nbsp;

Steve moved to Superior, NE and began his truck driving career where he worked for Paul Utecht Trucking, Dahlsten Trucking Company and most recently &nbsp;Werner Construction Co. He retired from Werner Construction Company in 2019.

Steve also enjoyed being a professional "Santa Claus" at 'Six Flags Mall' in Dallas, Texas for several years, and continued when requested for family Christmas's which was always memorable.

After retirement he loved going Goose hunting in the area with friends from far and near, and fishing with grandsons and&nbsp; others on the&nbsp; Republican River and Lovewell Lake, sharing his catch and game with family, neighbors and friends.&nbsp;

It was Steven’s wishes to be cremated.&nbsp; Memorial services will be held at 10:30 am, Wed., June 24, 2020 at The Limestone Church at Lovewell State Park, Webber, KS. &nbsp; Peggy Lynne Wickstrom, 66, of McPherson, KS, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 17, 2020, surrounded by her family at McPherson Hospital. She was retired from Pfizer. Peggy was born on July 6, 1953, in Spencer, Iowa, the daughter of Dale Rex and Velda “Tootie” Anne (Carpenter) Norton. She graduated from Chariton (Iowa) High School in 1971 and from Northwest Missouri State University in 1980. On September 21, 1985, Peggy was united in marriage to Bertis “David” Wickstrom at the Freemount Lutheran Church. He preceded her in death on December 31, 2013. Peggy was a member of Elim Lutheran Church, Marquette. Survivors include: her son, Matt Wickstrom and wife, Diane, of Marquette, KS; two sisters, Kandie Hardie and husband, Bill, of Chariton, IA and Kathy Batterson and fiancé, Gary Bingham, of Newton, IA; sister-in-law, Cynthia Hulse and husband, Mike, of Marquette, KS; and many extended family and friends. Stephen Dean Johnson, 70, died at his home in Clay Center, Kansas on June 5, 2020. He endured his entire life with a mental illness.

Stephen was born April 10, 1950 in Wichita, Kansas. His parents, Richard D. and Elizabeth (Hart) Johnson moved to Lawrence when he was 4.&nbsp; He attended schools there, graduating from Lawrence High School in 1968. He played the trumpet and was chosen as an All State Football player in High School.&nbsp; The Junior and Senior year teams record was 19-1.&nbsp; Golfing was another sport Stephen enjoyed.&nbsp; He worked as a caddie at Alvamore Golf Course.

Boy Scouts of America was a special time in his youth. &nbsp;Working together with family and troops, he achieved his Eagle Scout Award.&nbsp; This achievement qualified him to spend two weeks at the BSA Camp Philmont in New Mexico.&nbsp; He often shared about the wilderness experiences there.

Stephen played football at Kansas University under Coach Pepper Rogers, for two years.&nbsp; After his Sophomore year he went to work with friends on a construction crew.&nbsp; He worked 15 years as a framer on the East Coast from Florida up through Ohio.&nbsp; He enjoyed the Lake Erie area.&nbsp; There, he married Diane.&nbsp; They later divorced.

In 1985 he came back to Kansas due to the critical illness of his father.&nbsp; He then lived in Clay Center with his Uncle George.&nbsp; Stephen “Adopted” several families as his own family.

In 1990 he graduated from Kansas State University.&nbsp; He completed his degree in the College of Arts and Sciences.

He enjoyed working with youth in his church.&nbsp; He watched kids competing in sports. Stephen knew their families and kept in touch with them.&nbsp; To be with youth, he worked as a substitute teacher at school districts in the surrounding area.

Because of his strong construction background, Stephen worked with several local carpenters, and a Mason doing remodeling jobs.&nbsp;

One of Stephens hobbies was Radio Controlled Trucks, that he raced in the Junction City area.&nbsp; His latest hobby was drawing.&nbsp; He enjoyed drawing with colored pencils, framing them and gifting them.&nbsp; He designed greeting cards, celebrating friends and family victories.

Stephen was a friendly person.&nbsp; In conversations he had fun bringing attention to his eyes.&nbsp; One eye was blue and the other was brown.&nbsp; He enjoyed teaching about safety with construction equipment.&nbsp; Then he would show where his own finger had been amputated.

Stephen is survived by his sister Diana (Steve) Nelson of Lawrence, Kansas, niece; Donna and a nephew; Christopher.&nbsp; He has 1st&nbsp;cousins in California, Oregon, and Kansas, as well as many friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, June 24, 2020 at the Clay Center Covenant Church.

Sheila Ann Lisman, 77, passed away Thursday, May 28, 2020. She was born July 12, 1942 in Hutchinson to John and Betty (Geabhart) Lisman.

A native of Salina, Sheila graduated from Kansas Wesleyan in 1964. In 1970 she received her master's degree from the University of Oregon.

In 1986 she was in New Zealand on teacher exchange.

Sheila was especially proud of the following awards: Jaycee Young Educator, Davis Educator of the Year and National Endowment for the Humanities Scholar. She taught Secondary English Methods for the ACCK for sixteen years, instructing future teachers.

She taught around 5,000 students, yet retained her sense of humor, her love for kids, as well as pride in her profession.

Survivors include sister, Jerilyn Malone (Mike); niece, Jennifer Danaher; great niece and nephew, Faith and Ben Danaher; AFS daughter, Nicky Whitham-Blackwell and family of New Zealand; cousins, Donna Lisman Wale and family; and Wes and Gwen Bartlett.

Sheila was preceded in death by her parents; nephew, Marc Malone; and nephew by marriage, Doug Danaher.

A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, July 11, 2020 at Ryan Mortuary, Salina.

Eleanor Irene (Graves) Banker, 99, of Salina, passed away Tuesday, June 16, 2020. She was a resident at Pinnacle Park Care Center. She was born in Enterprise, KS to John F. and Lola (Lefferson) Graves, on October 10, 1920, the youngest of six children. Clayton James Edwards was born on April 11, 1990, in Salina, Kansas, the son of Doug and Kitty (Chapman) Edwards. Clayton grew up in Narka, graduating from Republic County High School in 2008. Following high school, he attended Southeast Community College in Beatrice, Nebraska.

Clayton was a proud member of ABATE of Nebraska, and loved to ride his motorcycle, along with attending motorcycle events with his mom and dad. He was a member of the Narka Presbyterian Church. He was a cook for 8 years at several local restaurants. He was very passionate about music, and you would catch him singing along most of the time. He enjoyed playing video games with his twin brother, brother-in-law, and nephews. He also really dug Anime. Clayton had a wonderful sense of witty humor, and really loved making people laugh. His closest friend was his dog Tina, whom he loved more than anything (except for his Momma). He adored his niece and nephews, loved his family fiercely and was always willing to give a helping hand.

Clayton took his final ride on Sunday, June 14th, 2020, at the age of 30 years, 2 months, and 3 days.

Left to cherish his memories are his parents, Doug and Kitty Edwards of Narka, brother Justin Harrison (Brandi), brother Clinton Edwards (Chaliegh), sister Harley Lewis (Brent), brother Adam Allison (Megan), and his special companion Tina. Clayton is also survived by his grandparents Melvin &amp; Estel Edwards of Narka, several nephews and one niece, and a community of friends.

Donald Joe Krotz of rural Cuba, KS was born on January 25, 1931 to Joseph and Julia (Mottl) Krotz. He died on June 14, 2020 at Belleville, KS at the age of 89 years, 4 months, and 20 days. Don was born in the home in which he lived the rest of his life, with the exception of his four years in the U.S. Armed Forces.&nbsp;&nbsp;

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; After graduating from Belleville High School in 1948, Don farmed with his father for several years. In 1952, he entered the United States Air Force. From 1952 until 1956 he was stationed in several states and traveled the world as an aircraft mechanic during the Korean Conflict. In 1956, Don was honorably discharged while stationed in Little Rock, Arkansas and married Geneva Ruth Goodall of Little Rock a few days later on April 5, 1956 at Geneva’s grandparent’s home in Atkins, Arkansas. The couple returned to the Krotz family farm between Belleville and Cuba, Kansas. To this union three children were born.&nbsp;

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; For over sixty years after returning to Kansas, Don farmed, with the assistance of his father the first years, and with the assistance of Geneva for the sixty years of their marriage. Besides the crops they raised, Don and Geneva had cattle for numerous years. In the early-1980s, they expanded to an extensive hog operation of generally over 1,000 head, which became their primary source of work and income for the next twenty years. Don also occasionally held jobs in woodworking, construction, and manufacturing in and around Belleville throughout the years to supplement the farm income. Don retired from the hog operation in the early 2000s, but continued to manage the farming of his land and his family’s land until his death.&nbsp;

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; In his youth, Don was a long-time Republic County 4-H member of the Salt Creek Club.&nbsp;

He attended Jefferson Center school for his first eight years and then attended Belleville High School where he especially enjoyed the FFA organization, attaining the State FFA degree his senior year. Don was a Master Mason in the Cuba Lodge A.F. and A.M. He also spent numerous years assisting in the design and building of play sets for high school drama productions. Don was an avid learner of a variety of subjects. He immensely enjoyed frequent trips to public libraries and museums. Two of his special interests were the U.S. Civil War and the history of farm machinery. He enjoyed being an enthusiastic supporter of his community and his agriculture community, whether through Czechoslovakian heritage events; county fairs; community coffee clubs; FFA and 4-H events; or through watching sports competitions with his wife, particularly basketball, in which their children and grandchildren or any local students participated.&nbsp;&nbsp;

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his wife Geneva in 2016; his parents; sister Harriet Barnett and husband Ben, sister Evelyn Polak and husband Leonard, and nephew Gene Barnett.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Don is survived by his three children: daughter Debra Krotz of Belleville, son Richard (Leah) Krotz of rural Deshler, Nebraska, son Randy Krotz and fiance Kathrin Terzo of Wildwood, Missouri; three grandchildren: James (Haileigh) Krotz of West Lafayette, Indiana; Garrison Krotz and fiance Madeleine Wilmsen of Chicago, Illinois; and Juliana Krotz Kroeger (Jeremy) of Dannebrog, Nebraska; and nephews and nieces.&nbsp;

Donald "Don" J. Krotz

Gene Russell, beloved husband, father and grandfather, age 84, departed this life peacefully, surrounded by his family, on June 7, 2020. Gene, son of Carl and Dorothy (Anderson) Russell, the fourth in line of 10 children, was born July 27, 1935, at the family farmstead northeast of Courtland. He attended Park Hill School, and graduated from Courtland High School in 1953. Gene was united in marriage to Joanne (Bengtson) Russell on December 27, 1967, in Lindsborg. They were blessed with two children, Barbara and Jay. Gene was a life-long farmer and rancher, farming with his brothers, son and nephews. This included more than five decades with his brother Chester. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1953 – 1955, being stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington. He returned from the army, and briefly attended Fort Hays State University, before returning to Courtland to spend the remainder of his life.

A friendly and ornery soul, Gene loved a good conversation. He thoroughly enjoyed family gatherings of any type where he could talk with his kids, grandkids, brothers, sisters and other family. He would spend all day at the Russell Family get-together every year, soaking in his family discussions. Gene didn’t know a stranger, and would talk to other farmers at the sale barn, or befriend someone he didn’t even know, to talk about farming. In later years, he enjoyed his morning drive around the countryside, checking in on things, and people became familiar with his white pickup as a constant at those times of day. He and Joanne raised their family going to the Ada Lutheran Church, rural Courtland. He loved his wife, and was very proud of his kids and grandkids.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Chester and Jim Russell, sister and brother-in-law Phyllis and Bill Mahin, brothers-in-law Ralph Sothers and Ron Sothers, and niece Kayleen (Sothers) Clark. He is also preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Linus and Ragnhild Bengtson, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Norman and Ingrid Bengtson, nephew Doug Bengtson, and son-in-law Gil Gregg.

He leaves behind to mourn his passing his wife of 52 years, Joanne (Bengtson) Russell, daughter Barbara Nebbeling and her husband Dirk of Dodge City, son Jay Russell and his wife Jenny of Courtland; six grandchildren Emma Keeten (Caleb, Olivia Gregg, Allison Gregg, Betsy Gregg, Owen Russell and Alyssa Russell. Gene is also survived by his brothers and sisters; Beverly Sothers of Courtland, Max Russell and his wife Kay of Wamego, Maxine Fredrickson and her husband Jan of Quinter, Ken Russell and his wife Mary of Abilene, Charles Russell and his wife June of Nelson, Nebraska, Penny True and her husband Don of Council Grove, sister-in-law Verlee Russell of Beloit, brother-in-law Gordon Bengtson of Lindsborg, sister-in-law Kathryn Fellman and her husband Steve of Mohnton, Pennslyvania, many nieces and nephews, and numerous other relatives and friends.

He returned from the army, and briefly attended Fort Hays State University, before returning to Courtland to spend the remainder of his life.A friendly and ornery soul, Gene loved a good conversation. He thoroughly enjoyed family gatherings of any type where he could talk with his kids, grandkids, brothers, sisters and other family. He would spend all day at the Russell Family get-together every year, soaking in his family discussions. Gene didn’t know a stranger, and would talk to other farmers at the sale barn, or befriend someone he didn’t even know, to talk about farming. In later years, he enjoyed his morning drive around the countryside, checking in on things, and people became familiar with his white pickup as a constant at those times of day. He and Joanne raised their family going to the Ada Lutheran Church, rural Courtland. He loved his wife, and was very proud of his kids and grandkids.Gene was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Chester and Jim Russell, sister and brother-in-law Phyllis and Bill Mahin, brothers-in-law Ralph Sothers and Ron Sothers, and niece Kayleen (Sothers) Clark. He is also preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Linus and Ragnhild Bengtson, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Norman and Ingrid Bengtson, nephew Doug Bengtson, and son-in-law Gil Gregg.He leaves behind to mourn his passing his wife of 52 years, Joanne (Bengtson) Russell, daughter Barbara Nebbeling and her husband Dirk of Dodge City, son Jay Russell and his wife Jenny of Courtland; six grandchildren Emma Keeten (Caleb, Olivia Gregg, Allison Gregg, Betsy Gregg, Owen Russell and Alyssa Russell. &nbsp; Jerry Dean Barber, 67, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 11:23 p.m., Friday, June 12th, 2020 while in the company of family members, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson, Kansas. Jerry was born in Jacksonville, Illinois on April 17, 1953, the eldest son of John Jerome and Mary Jane (Hughes) Barber. Jerry was a former church member of the Ogallah Christian Church, Ogallah, Kansas, Plainville Christian Church, Plainville, Kansas, and the First Baptist Church of Jacksonville, Illinois where he was Baptized in 1966. Through the years Jerry worked as a supported living manager, case manager, job coach, family teacher and assistant family teacher for Developmental Services of NW Kansas. Jerry was certified as a family teacher for mentally challenged adults by the National Teaching-Family Association. Jerry loved to sing and travel. Jerry visited most of the 50 states in addition to Italy, China and Japan. He was always the life of the party and he loved to make people laugh. He was well thought of and loved by all. His greatest love was when he was able to be with his family and many friends. Jerry was known for his kindness to others. Jim F. Lamia, 68, passed away Thursday, March 19, 2020 in Salina. He was born January 12, 1952 in Ellsworth to Jasper and Mary Ann (Simanella) Lamia.

Jim grew up in Kanopolis and had been a longtime resident of both Holyrood and Salina where he was a warehouse and counter salesman for Salina Supply Company. He married Cindy Richard at St. Paul Lutheran Church in rural Ellsworth on July 13, 1974.

Jim is survived by his wife, Cindy of Salina; sons, Michael Lamia of Salina and Brian Lamia (Ashley) of St. Joseph, MO; grandchildren, Tyler, Kirsten, and Olivia Lamia and Brynnan, Gracen, and Bode Lamia; brothers, Leonard Lamia (Vickie) of North Little Rock, AR (Leonard passed away five weeks after Jim)&nbsp;and Anthony Lamia (Diane) of Holyrood; many nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Debby Oestmann of Aurora, CO; and brother-in-law, Dru Richard (Candy) of Ellsworth. Rickie Dean Smith of Council Grove, Kansas, passed away June 15, 2020, after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Topeka, Kansas, on August 2, 1955, to Dean and Donna (Gifford) Smith. He graduated from Council Grove High School in 1973. Rick worked at many different jobs throughout the years, with his last job at IBP/Tyson in Emporia, Kansas.&nbsp; For anyone that knew Rick, they would know his one great passion in life was fishing. For a period of time, he ran a small guide business taking people fishing in the local area and was also interviewed by Betty Lou Pardue from WIBW TV, which he was very proud of.&nbsp; Rick knew the local area lakes and could tell you stats and what type of fish was prominently caught at each lake. He could talk your ear off about lures, bait, boats and what fish were biting when and where.

&nbsp;Rick also had a love and passion for animals.&nbsp; &nbsp;He always had a cat in his hand and the dogs knew the sound of his truck before he pulled in the drive. Spring was one of his favorite times; as there was always some kind of baby animal around.&nbsp; From kittens to foals, calves and the baby goats that somehow showed up over the last few years. If it was an animal, he loved it. If someone needed a "babysitter" for their 4 legged kid, Rick was the one to call. He took great pride in that job.

Rick was also a very proud uncle.&nbsp; He loved his nieces and nephews with all his heart. He enjoyed buying each of them a special “prize” whether it was a box of animal crackers or something he knew they would enjoy.&nbsp; The grin on Rick’s face and the excitement in his eyes was a true testimony on how much he loved them.&nbsp; He always enjoyed seeing them happy.&nbsp;

Rick is survived his parents, Dean and Donna Smith of Council Grove; sister Cathy (Smith) Pritchard and husband John of Dunlap; sister Tricia Smith-Hickey and husband Mark and son Logan of Council Grove; niece’s; Rinda (Pritchard) Stecher and husband Tony and children Jackson and Scarlett of Council Grove; Jenna (Pritchard) Vathauer and husband Daniel and children Jacob, Jaci Kay and Arlo of Barnes, Kansas; and Jessie Pritchard and children Ryker and Charlee Rose of Thompson Station, Tenn.

&nbsp; Helen M. Kappel, 84, passed away Tuesday, June16, 2020, in Chapman. She was born September 9, 1935 in Abilene, the daughter of Earl and Mary (Foltz) Kogler. 

Growing up in Abilene Helen attended local schools. 

September 27, 1957 she married Norman Kappel in Abilene. All of their married life was spent in Abilene. He preceded her in death July 17, 2010. 

Helen was a self employed daycare provider for twenty eight years and a member of the Abilene First United Methodist Church. 

She was also preceded in death by: her parents; daughter, Linda Kappel; brother Bruce Kogler and infant sister, Marilyn Kogler. 

Helen is survived by: son George (Judy) Kappel of Abilene; two daughters, Lorrie (Ric) Riggs of Abilene; Julie Kappel of Topeka; brother, Earl Kogler Jr. of Altamone Springs, Florida; two step-sister, Jody (Bob) Reichel of Hansen, Idaho, Kay (Rickard) Waugh of King George, Virginia; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his parents, Luis and wife Brittani Ruvalcaba, Melissa Thomas; sister, Alycia Ruvalcaba and husband Erik; brother, Adrian Ruvalcaba; nephew Giovani Aranda; all of Salina; grandparents, J. William J. “Bill” Stover

Robert L. “Bob” Melander, 94, of Lindsborg, passed away Saturday, June 13, 2020 at Bethany Home.  Bob was born in Salina, KS on July 25, 1925, the 3rd child of five, to the late Harry and Ethel (King) Melander. 

Bob was a 1951 graduate of Kipp High School, following his service in WWII.  He served in the 24th Regiment of infantry, in the occupation of the Philippines.  Bob was also stationed one year in Japan.

On November 25, 1951, Bob married Vaughn Davis in Salina.  To this marriage were born 2 daughters.  Bob and Vaughn raised their family on their rural farm near Gypsum, KS.  Bob was a self-employed farmer and carpenter.  He was a member of the Rural St. Paul’s Lutheran Church (Stone Church, and later the Mentor First United Methodist Church.

Bob is survived by his wife: Vaughn, of the home in Lindsborg; daughters: Roxy Curts (Dallas, of Kansas City, MO and Madonna Androes (Ron, of Hutchinson, KS; grandchildren: Bethany Curts, of Hoodsport, WA, Ethan Melander (Michele, of Olympia, WA, and Kelli Morgan (Kevin, of Broomfield, CO; great-grandchild: Dorian Morgan; and a brother: Larry Melander, of Alta IA.

He is preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers; and 1 sister.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 16, at Crick-Christians Funeral Home, Lindsborg.

Private family graveside services will be held at Roselawn Cemetery, Salina, KS. A community memorial service will be announced at a later date.

&nbsp; Marlene Joyce Clements, 85, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 10:15 a.m., Monday, June 15th, 2020 while in the company of family members at the Cedars. Marlene was born in Wichita, Kansas on December 26, 1934, a daughter of Henry Gail "Red" and Maudie Etta (DePee) Mountz-Morley. Marlene attended the Lincoln and Washington grade schools, McPherson Junior High and graduated from McPherson High School, McPherson, Kansas in 1952. She then attended Business School in Wichita, Kansas and Hutchinson Junior Community College, Hutchinson, Kansas. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in McPherson where she faithfully served her church in several capacities through the years. Marlene was a homemaker and worked as a bookkeeper for Tucker Firestone, as a dental assistant for Dr. Smith, worked as a Bookkeeper for Certain-Teed Corporation and then as an Office Manager, Secretary and Treasurer for American Maplan until she retired in 1999. Marlene was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2715 Ladies Auxiliary and American Legion Post 24 Ladies Auxiliary. Marlene enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, auctions, casino's and spending time with her friends and family. Marlene was united in marriage to Danny R. Lockwood in 1954 at the Church of God in McPherson, Kansas. Marlene was united in marriage to Pliny John "Tony" Clements on March 7, 1961 at Las Vegas, Nevada. They established their first home together in McPherson, Kansas. She is survived by her children, Brad Lockwood and his wife Ann, of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, Cary Lockwood, of Carrollton, Texas, Tracy Clements and his wife Toya, of Wichita, Kansas and Toni Brauer and her husband Richard, of McPherson, Kansas; She is also survived by her grandchildren, Melissa Lockwood, Jennifer Lockwood, Delaney Lockwood, Melissa Clouatre (Joe, Trenton Clements, Marci Clements, William "Bil" Brauer, Joshua Kaufman (Lauren, Jessica Dirks (Justin) and 7 great-grandchildren, Veronica, Madelyn, Makenna, Taylor, Adrian, Kathryn, Jeremiah and Eryn; her niece Lori Krause; brother-in-law , Guy Clements (Frances) and other relatives, many nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Marlene was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands and her sister, Janet Sue "Jan" Chapman. Graveside service will be held on Wednesday, June 17, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at McPherson Cemetery, McPherson, Kansas, with Reverend Tin Leaf officiating. Marlene Joyce Clements

Thelma’s life began on May 23, 1919, the daughter of Charley and Minnie (Nash) Baker in Wichita, Kansas. She attended East Center School, Furley Grade Schools and Whitewater High School. On June 1, 1938, she married Harold G. Eilert in Furley. Thelma was a farm wife, and in the 1940’s she worked for Beech Aircraft as a Rosie the Riveter. She was a school bus driver and custodian at Furley Grade School and also a custodian at Furley United Methodist Church. She retired as an activities director from Wheat State Manor in Whitewater.

Memberships included Furley United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. She loved God, Jesus, her family and her Furley Church and community. She loved music, playing the piano and singing. She created beautifully embroidered quilts and pillowcases for her family. She loved chickens and cats, tending her flower gardens and taking care of her family, neighbors and the elderly in the community.

Her loving family includes her sons, Edwin (Jan) Eilert of Overland Park, Kansas, Ron Eilert of Arvada, Colorado, Gary (Lamoyne) Eilert of Valley Center, Kansas; daughter Cheryl (Keith) Slater of Furley; 12 grandchildren, John Gary Eilert, Scott (Meggan) Eilert, Jami (Mark) Schmideskamp, Robert (Eileen) Eilert, David (Kristoffer) Eilert-Kennelly, Douglas (Tiffany) Eilert, Lesa (Tom) Robke, Sheri (Donavin) Edgerle, Jackie (Tremayne) Reese, Karen (Ryan) Henning, Andrew (Lindsay) Slater, Gregg (Devon) Ulvedal, Jeff (Jeni) Ulvedal; great-grandchildren, Makenna, Ryan, Hailey, Allison, Paige, Maria, Kathryn, Adam, Shelby (Chris, Tyson, Seth, Lyric, Owen, Crosby, Xavier, Lauren, Robert, Skyler and Keegan; one great-great-grandson, Garrett; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; siblings, Clarence Baker, Ethel Faufaw, Lucy Barker, Florence Kleider, Bertha Miers, Viola Eilert, George Baker and Pauline Hurn; daughter-in-laws, Patty and Linda Eilert. Thelma passed away peacefully on Friday, June 12, 2020, at the age of 101 years old.

Her family will gather with friends on Saturday, June 20, from 10-11:00 a.m. with her funeral following at 11:00, both at Furley United Methodist Church, 11400 E 101st Street N., Valley Center, Kansas 67147. She will be laid to rest in the Green Valley Cemetery in Furley. Due to Covid-19 masks are requested and social distancing will be in place.

Steve Gene Glover, 49, of&nbsp;Salina, passed away June 4,2020. He was born October 29, 1970 in Stephenville,&nbsp;Texas.

He worked as a cook for&nbsp;Long John Silvers and&nbsp;Solomon Corp.

He was preceded in death by&nbsp;his parents, Leland and&nbsp;Dorothy (Williams) Glover;&nbsp;brother, Terry Glover,&nbsp;grandson, King Hamilton;&nbsp;grandparents, Leroy and&nbsp;Betty (Davis) Glover, Alfred&nbsp;and Goldie Williams.

Colby Barber 25 died June 13, 2020.&nbsp; He was born on December 2, 1994, the son of Paul Barber and Jannell Carlson. &nbsp;

Colby was raised in the Clay Center and Wakefield communities.&nbsp; He attended CCCHS and was a graduate of Wakefield High School.&nbsp; 

Colby worked for his grandfather at Carlson Heating and Air before attending Pinnacle Institute for wind turbine technology.&nbsp; He worked for a short time with wind turbines in Dodge City.&nbsp; Colby also worked as a truck driver for Crazy Horse Trucking, as a farm hand for several Clay County farmers and an electrician at Heineken Electric.&nbsp; He was currently employed at File Farms in Beloit.&nbsp; 

In his free time, Colby loved football, all things agriculture, K-State sports and riding motorcycles.&nbsp; 

He was preceded in death by grandmother, Betty Carlson.
