Robert Lee "Bob" Black of Greensboro, GA passed away Saturday, January 4, 2020 at St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital. He was 85. Bob was born August 19, 1934 in Minneapolis, KS to the late Floyd and Lula Mae Reynolds Black. He graduated from Chapman High School in Chapman, KS. After high school he began a career with the Kansas Department of Transportation, retiring as the Highway Maintenance Supervisor after 39 years.

While a resident of Clay Center, KS, Bob was involved in the community serving on the city council for four years, an active member of the Jaycees, summer ball and rec program (10 years as umpire, a member of the First Baptist Church and the Elks where he served as exalted ruler from 1987-1988.

On May 11, 2003, he married Bonnie Leigh Anderson and moved from Clay Center, KS to Greensboro, GA. Bob was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Greensboro. His many interests included woodworking, mowing the lawn and painting.

Bob is survived by his wife of 16 years, Bonnie of Greensboro, GA; three children, Larry Black (Terri) of Newton, KS, Linda Lamkin (Sterling) of Cedar Park, TX and Lyle Black (Carrie) of Sedgwick, KS; step children, Tracy Anderson (Claire) of Atlanta, GA, Blake Anderson of Atlanta, GA and Penny Anderson of Loganville, GA; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.

Gail's life began on June 16, 1933 in Topeka.  He was the son of Gail and Fern (Pratt) McIntyre. 

 Gail was a 1952 graduate of Herington High School and attended the University of Kansas. 

 He served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War. 

 Gail was united in marriage to Beatrice "Bea" Yates on November 22, 1958 in Herington. 

 He worked for the Rock Island, Southern Pacific and Union Pacific Railroads during his career as an engineer. 

 He was active in the Masonic Lodge, Isis Shrine, the American Legion, Lions Club and Rotary Club. 

 Gail enjoyed riding his motorcycle, playing a round of golf, attending the Scottish games, a good meal and loved his grandchildren. 

 His loving family includes his children Blake (Mary) McIntyre of Osage City and Gay (Gary) Giffin of Waverly; grandchildren Trent Giffin, Joseph McIntyre, Sean (Amanda) Gibson, Nicholas (Sarah) McIntyre, and  Daniel (Anna) McIntyre; 20 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. 

 Gail passed away at his home in Waverly on March 6, 2020. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Beatrice, four brothers and one infant sister. 

 His family will gather on Tuesday from 9-10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, Herington for a visitation followed by his funeral service at 10 a.m.  He will be laid to rest in Sunset Hill Cemetery with military honors. Barbara's life began on July 18, 1938 in Herington.  She was the daughter of Henry and Esther (Fromm) Alt. 

 Barbara was united in marriage to Daniel Clore on June 6, 1971 in Herington. 

 She worked most of her life in various jobs including Herington Municipal Hospital, the school lunch room and cleaning for various family's in the area.  Barbara enjoyed going fishing with Daniel, travelling, eating out and shopping on QVC.  

She was a wonderful cook and was well loved for her meat loaf and beef stew amongst other goodies. 

 Barbara was baptized in the Baptist Church in Herington. 

 Her greatest joy was her family which includes her husband Daniel of Herington; children Debbie (Scott) Ginter of Holt Summit, MO, Caroline (Jerry Schlesener) McIntosh of Herington, Roger (Rhonda) Clore of Park City, and Sherry Williams of Augusta; 18 grandchildren, several great grandchildren and her brother Francis (Ardith) Alt of Herington. 

 Barbara passed away on March 5, 2020 at Legacy at Herington. 

 She is preceded in death by her parents, daughters Sherri Applebaugh, Brenda Hester and Colleen De Tomaso; grandson Stacy Falk and her brothers Milton, Alvin and Henry Alt, Jr. 

 Her family will gather with friends on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, Herington for her funeral service and there will be visitation one hour prior to service. Barbara J (Alt) Clore

Norman C. Cleveland, age 92, passed away on Saturday, March 7, 2020 at the Cloud County Health Center, Concordia, Kansas.&nbsp; He was born on April 17, 1927 in Concordia, Kansas to Avery and Rilla (Morgan) Cleveland.

Norman graduated from Concordia High School in 1945.&nbsp; He married Lila (Pelland) Lambert on August 6, 1959 and Norman and Lila were partners on their farm in Cloud County for 55 years.&nbsp; She preceded him in death on July 2, 2014.

Norman was raised on the homestead in Nelson Township and with the exceptions of travel and hospital stays he lived every day of his life in the house in which he was raised. Because of the wonderful people of No Place Like Home Health he was able to live out his final years at his home. &nbsp;&nbsp;Norman’s passion in life was farming and he farmed in the Cloud County community his entire life.&nbsp; He was a devoted husband and father and dedicated to teaching his kids the values of hard work and farm family life.

Norman and Lila were avid square dancers and toured North America square dancing.&nbsp; He served on the school board of Hillcrest District 6 School and the Nelson Township Fire Board.

He was preceded in death by his wife Lila, parents, brothers Russell Dean and Marvin and an infant great grandson, Benjamin Cleveland.

He is survived by his 4 children, Don Lambert and partner Ray Hill, Kansas City, MO; Michael Cleveland and wife Cindy, Salina, KS; Diann Spencer and partner Tom Everitt, KC, MO; and Jerry Cleveland and partner Deb Baker, New Cambria, KS., 6 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, March 13, 2020 at the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home Chapel with Austin Graham officiating.

Burial will follow in the Walnut Grove Cemetery, rural Concordia, Kansas.

Bobbie LeRoy Dye, 85, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 7, 2020 at Holiday Resort Health and Rehabilitation, Salina.

Bobbie was born in Kingman, Kansas on April 19, 1934, to the late Dean Carson Wright and Albert Dye. He attended grade school in Kingman, Kansas and in Solomon, Kansas. He attended middle school in Wichita, Kansas, Albuquerque, New Mexico, Boulder, Colorado, and Salina, Kansas and his Electrical Engineering Degree from the Kansas Technical Institute.

Bobbie married Elan Olson of Assaria, Kansas on Oct. 10, 1959. They had two daughters; Deanna Jo and Ronda Lee. Bobbie and Elan began their lives together in a small home in Salina, Kansas. A few years later, they moved to the family’s Assaria farm. In 1978, Bobbie and his family built and moved into a new country home. There, the Dye family raised horses, chickens, quail and many cats and dogs. Bobbie employed his love for animals to become an expert trainer of German shepherd hunting dogs.

Bobbie served as a private in the United States Army from 1952 to 1955. During his tour in Korea, he was a member of the 3rd Division, 15th Infantry Regiment and received a Purple Heart. In 2014, Bobbie traveled with other veterans to Washington, D.C. for the Kansas Honor Flight. This experience had a great effect on Bobbie. He was given an Honor Flight ball cap and wore it with great pride through his final days.

Bobbie retired from Philips Lighting of Salina, Kansas. He took great pride in his strong work ethic and life-long employment. At the age of six, Bobbie became a pinsetter. As a child, he worked as a paper boy and a shoeshine boy. As a young man, Bobbie worked at the Weber Elevator and Flour Mill of Salina, Kansas. He also was a housing sub-contractor and welder at Salina Manufactory. Later, he worked at Certain Teed Manufacturing of McPherson, Kansas and Westinghouse Lighting of Salina, Kansas.

During his life, Bobbie was a member of many community originations; he was a Mason for 41 years. He belonged to the Blue Lodge and Scottish Rite, as a 32nd Degree Mason. He was a member of the Oriental Band and the Shrine Pipe and Drum Band. He was a member of the local VFW, the Assaria Lions Club, and the Assaria Lutheran Church, where he and Elan were married.

Bobbie was a talented and devoted musician who played the bagpipes for 38 years. He was a founding member of the City of McPherson Pipe and Drum Band. One of Bobbie’s greatest joys was playing the bagpipes with his grandson, Ryan, who is a Scottish drummer. Bobbie was locally known as a piper who played for many funerals, weddings and other functions.

Bobbie is survived by his wife, Elan Dye, his daughter, Ronda Russell, his son-in-law, Randy Russell and his grandson, Ryan Russell, all of Assaria, Kansas.

Bobbie was preceded in death by his brothers, Bill Dye, Clarence Dye, and his cherished daughter, Deanna Dye Smith.

Bobbie was a devoted husband, father, son, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He was well respected and will be greatly missed by those who were fortunate enough to know him.

Visitation will be Friday, March 13, from 1:00 pm – 7:00 pm at Carlson - Geisendorf Funeral Home, with family present from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm.

Funeral services will be at 4:00 pm on Saturday, March 14th, at Assaria Lutheran Church, Assaria, Kansas, with Pastor Dean Apel officiating. Burial will follow at Assaria Lutheran Cemetery, Assaria.

Dora Mae Graham, 94, of Salina, Kansas, passed away Saturday, March 7th, 2020.

Dora was born in rural Aurora, Kansas on March 17, 1925, a daughter of the late Mary Ann (Poulin) and Alfred Marcotte.

Survivors include two daughters, Patricia Burt (Gary) of Bennington, and Elizabeth "Roxann" Schooley (Bart) of Cambridge; son, Allan Hauck (Patty) of Yukon, Oklahoma; Step-daughters, Judy Cote of Meridan, and Betty Graham of Wichita; and step-son Gary Graham (Patti) of Phoenix, Arizona.

She is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husbands, Francis Lee "Bud" Hauck, Clarence "Swede" Ellison, and Maurice Graham; daughter, Creta Urquhart; step-son, Jack Ellison; great-grandson, Austin; 5 infant siblings; sisters, Ruby Gauthier (Telesphore, Lena Peltier (Ted, Laura Alkire (Herbert); brothers, Wilfred Marcotte (Mary, Alphonse Marcotte (Edna, Homer Marcotte (Delena, Francis Marcotte (Dorothy, Raymond Marcotte (Eula, and Leonard Marcotte (Mary and Helen); and son-in-laws Philip Crickenberger and Tom Cote.

Visitation will be Thursday, March 12 from 1:00 to 8:00 pm with the family present from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at Carlson-Geisendorf Funeral Home, 500 S. Ohio Street, Salina. Rosary will be at 7:00 pm.

Brian Keith Norris, 46, of Salina, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, March 3rd, 2020.

He served in the United States Marines from 1992 to 1996.

Brian was born in Salina, Kansas on September 27, 1973, a son of Jerry Paul Norris and the late Sharon Diane (Bender) Norris.

Noleen June Binder, 81, of McPherson, KS, passed away at 6:18 a.m., Friday, March 6th, 2020 suddenly, at her home.

Noleen was born on her parents farm rural Longford, Kansas on June 5, 1938, a daughter of Adeline (Brown) and Torrence Clark.

Noleen attended Longford grade school, and graduated from Longford High School, Longford, Kansas in 1956.

Noleen June Clark was united in marriage to Merle F. Binder on September 18, 1956. The young couple established their first home together in Clay Center, Kansas. In 1957, the couple moved to Wichita, Kansas until 1959 when the couple moved back to Longford. In 1966 the family moved to McPherson, Kansas. This union was blessed with the birth of four children, three sons and one daughter, Mark, Dan, David, and Ronda.

She was a member of First Christian Church (DOC) McPherson, Kansas, where she served as an Elder and was recognized as an Elder Emeritus. She served as a Stephen's Minister. Noleen through the years served as Choir Director, Bell Choir Director, member of Ruth Heimer Women's Group, and was a substitute pianist and organist.

Noleen was a homemaker and she took great pride in providing for her family in this manner. Through the years she gave piano lessons, was a gifted seamstress and did sewing alterations for others, and she was a pianist and organist for several churches throughout her career.

Noleen enjoyed music, church, visiting with people, drinking coffee, taking care of people, was in prayer groups, spending time with her family especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of over 63 years, Merle Binder, of McPherson, Kansas; her children, Mark Binder and Cindy Crocker, of Garfield, Arkansas, Dan Binder and wife Fay Ann, of Inman, Kansas, David Binder, of Plano, Texas, and Ronda Gilstrap and husband Douglas, of Wichita, Kansas; her sisters, Joan Franklin and husband Bob of Northfield, Minnesota and Wava Burt, of Sand Springs, Oklahoma; her seven grandchildren, Chad Binder and Mandie Smith, Justin Binder and wife Taylor, Jessica Smith and husband Ty, Mallory Binder, Natalie Binder, Jason Gilstrap and wife Ashley, and Luke Gilstrap and wife Megan; her five great-grandchildren, Tinley Gilstrap, Tucker Gilstrap, Tess Gilstrap, Oliver Gilstrap, and Shay Smith; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

She attended Bixler County Schools through the 8th grade and then had to quit school to help run the family farm.&nbsp; She married Joseph “Scott” Mason on November 27, 1939, in Eureka, Kansas. She was a homemaker and attended Marion Christian Church, enjoyed cooking, baking, and her flower garden. Marie and Scott enjoyed traveling and later after retirement they would winter in Las Vegas.

Her loving family includes her sons, William “Bill” Mason (Vi) of Kansas City, Missouri; Jerry Mason of Houston, Texas; granddaughters, Melissa Mason of Portland, Oregon and Ashley Mason of Kansas City, Missouri; son-in-law, Stephen Rasmussen of Tulsa, Oklahoma.

She was preceded in death by her parents; spouse; daughter, June Rasmussen and a brother, William Fulkerson. Marie passed away peacefully on Friday, February 28, 2020, at the age of 105.

Ben’s life began on December 19, 1925, the son of Jacob and Mary (Spense) Krahn in Langdon, North Dakota. He graduated from Langdon High, Class of 1943 and married Lavina Mae (Wuthrich) on November 2, 1951, at the Whitewater Federated Church. He was a machinist and worked for Beech Aircraft and also farmed.&nbsp; He was a member of Swiss Church which is now the Whitewater Community Church. There he taught Sunday School and was the church treasurer. Ben was an avid bowler, liked to go on walks and farming was his hobby.

His loving family includes his daughter, Cindy (Ken) Roth of Wichita; sons, Steve (Julie) Krahn of Derby, Kansas, Doug Krahn of Hutchinson, Don (Leslie) Krahn of Towanda, Kansas; 14 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Mabel Riley of Derby and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; spouse, Lavina in 2013; brothers, Clarence, Herb, Reuben, Alvin George, and Emil; sisters, Rose Krahn, Mary Gadaire and Katie Lowen. Ben passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 5, 2020, at the age of 94 years old.

Benjamin Jacob Krahn



Charles M. Johnson was born to Jesse and Vada (Schafer) Johnson on April 3, 1937, in Goessel, KS. He peacefully passed away on March 5, 2020, at the Moundridge Manor, Moundridge, KS, almost reaching his eighty-third birthday.

He was a lifelong member of Church of God in Christ, Mennonite. He received his formal education at Happy Hollow School.

On October 13, 1957, he was joined in marriage to Joyce E. Unruh, sharing nearly 59 years together. She preceded him in death on March 22, 2016.

Charles was a farmer, feed salesman, and general laborer at Quality Feed and Fertilizer. He was called to ministry by the Zion congregation and was ordained on January 20, 1975. Charles loved his calling and served faithfully until he retired from the ministry in 2015.

Survivors include: three children, Vonda Johnson of Moundridge, KS, Daniel (Clara) Johnson of Inman, KS, and Gregg (Robin) Johnson of Trenton, MO; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Harold Johnson and Doyle Johnson, both of Moundridge, KS; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce, one daughter-in-law, Rhoda, his parents, oldest brother, Don, and three sisters-in-law.

The funeral service will be at 10:30 AM, Sunday, March 8, 2020, at the Zion Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, Inman, KS. Burial will follow at the Zion Church Cemetery. Charles M. Johnson

Norman Niles Wohler was born October 30, 1938 in Clay County, to Paul and Irene (Olsen) Wohler. Norman was a 1956 graduate of CCCHS. During high school he worked at the Lincoln Heights grocery store in Clay Center. He then started working for Boogaarts and became the manager of the Boogaarts store in Phillipsburg, Kansas. Norman managed this store for 27 years and worked for Ray’s Applemarket in the produce department training new employees. Norman married Delores Hickman on June 14, 1959. He was a member of the Phillipsburg Lions Club, Phillipsburg Wesleyan Church where he served as Vice-chairman of the board, and Awana in Phillipsburg and Clay Center. Norman and his family were very active in church. They would often open their home for teen meetings, visiting church singers and pastors, and many other church members. Norman, Delores and their two children sang as a family quartet for several years and Norman sang in the church choir. He was a member of the Clay Center Wesleyan Church. He is preceded in death by his parents.

Norman managed this store for 27 years and worked for Ray’s Applemarket in the produce department training new employees. Norman married Delores Hickman on June 14, 1959. He was a member of the Phillipsburg Lions Club, Phillipsburg Wesleyan Church where he served as Vice-chairman of the board, and Awana in Phillipsburg and Clay Center. Norman and his family were very active in church. They would often open their home for teen meetings, visiting church singers and pastors, and many other church members. Norman, Delores and their two children sang as a family quartet for several years and Norman sang in the church choir. He was a member of the Clay Center Wesleyan Church. Armando David Mascote, age 20, of Council Grove, Kansas, passed away on March 1, 2020.&nbsp; He was born December 1, 1999, to Armando and Maricela Mascote at KU Med in Kansas City, Kansas.

He graduated from Council Grove High School and was a sophomore at the University of Kansas. His plans were to graduate from KU with a major in Biology, attending KU Med and becoming a doctor.

Armando was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, FBLA, and was the Student Body President for two consecutive years. His activities were Cross Country, Football, Wrestling and Track &amp; Field. He also attended KU Student Senate meetings.

Armando was a very respectable, kindhearted individual, whom was loved by his family and friends. He enjoyed so many things…..finding new things to cook, teaching his friends to cook,&nbsp; listening to Kid Cudi, playing with his siblings, he loved his truck, pan dulce (sweet bread, his Sperry’s, dressing up and having a good time with friends. He was extremely proud of having the opportunity to attend the University of Kansas and being a Jayhawk. &nbsp;Armando’s family was very dear to him and he loved spending time with them.&nbsp; He also enjoyed spending time with his grandparents in Mexico.

Armando is survived by his parents Armando and Maricela Mascote; siblings Elizabeth, George and David Mascote; grandparents Agustin Mascote, Isabel Reyes, Juvenal Arroyo and Benita Alvarado; uncles Vicente Mascote, Manuel Mascote, Agustin Mascote, Concepcion Mascote, Nicolas Mascote, and Nemorio Arroyo; aunts Carmen Mascote, Guadalupe Mascote, Rosario Mascote, Daisy Mascote, Isabel Mascote, Catalina Mascote, Carmen Arroyo, and Alejandra Arroyo; and a host of friends. Armando will be sadly missed by all that knew him.

Lola M. Gropp, age 96, passed away on Thursday, March 5, 2020 at Sunset Nursing Home, Concordia.&nbsp; She was born on Oct. 7, 1923 in Ames, KS to William M. and Alma L. (Smith) Trost.

She graduated from Concordia High School.&nbsp; She married Don V. Gropp on June 22, 1945 in Concordia and he preceded her on Feb. 20, 1994.&nbsp; She was a homemaker and assisted Don as a driver for the Eldorado Bus Corp. of Salina and on his semi-truck.&nbsp; She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church (formerly E.U.B.) and attended Huscher United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her son, Bill Gropp (Shirley, Concordia; daughters, Donna Strait (Renus, Tabor, SD, Mary Faulkner (Steve, Mt. Hope and Karen Lucas, Newcastle, WA; brother, D.D. Trost, Orange&nbsp; City, IA; sisters, Evelyn Woolston, Boone, IA, Willo Harris, Whitefish, MT and Cynthia Ormston, Marshalltown, IA; grandsons, Lance Gropp, Vince Gropp, Ryan Strait, Joshua Faulkner, Trevor Gassler &amp; Erik Gassler; 12 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.

Loren C. Koester, age 83, left this earthly life on Thursday, March 5, 2020 at Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital, Lincoln, NE surrounded by his family.&nbsp; He was born on November 14, 1936 in Concordia, KS to Frederick J. and Ruby P. (Sjogren) Koester.

Loren graduated from Concordia High School in 1954 and attended a year at Ft. Hays.

He married Norine F. Forshee on April 16, 1961 at Huscher, KS.&nbsp; In their younger years, they enjoyed square dancing as members of the Aurora Starlighters.

Loren was a 3rd&nbsp;generation farmer SE of Concordia.&nbsp; He was a lifelong member of Huscher United Methodist Church and was currently attending The Baptist Church.&nbsp; Loren volunteered his time and talents to several church and community boards in Cloud County.&nbsp; He was an active member of Gideon’s International and passionate about soil conservation and taking care of the land.

He is survived by his wife, Norine, Concordia; daughter, Karla Koester, Mannford, OK &amp; Karin Kaiser (Kenny, Douglass; son, Roger Koester (Tricia, Concordia; brother, Gene Koester (Patty, Torrence, CA; sister, Carol Stewart (Rolland, Claflin; 6 grandchildren, Kassidy Krehbiel (Donovan, Kraemer Kaiser &amp; Kylee Kaiser; Gavin Koester (Hannah, Garet Koester (Hannah) &amp; Jaida Koester &amp; 4 great grandchildren.

Debra “Deb” was born July 1, 1957 in Clay Center, KS to Dales and Doris (Sheely) Carnahan. She was raised in Clay Center and graduated from CCCHS. She owned and operated Deena’s Café in Clyde for 18 years and owned A1 Bail Bonds. Debra loves country music, especially George Strait. She spent her free time playing cards at the Senior Center, going to the casino, cheering on her Kansas City Chiefs and going out to eat with family and friends. Debra loved spending time with her grandchildren and was looking forward to seeing her grandson, Trentin walk across the stage and receive his diploma. She married Howard Dean Groening on March 8, 1946, at the Lehigh Mennonite Church. Irma helped her spouse on the farm with chores, and enjoyed refinishing wood furniture. She was a member of the Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church, taught Sunday School, traveled on bus trips, volunteered at the Et Cetera Shop for over 20 years, helped with the MCC Sale in Hutchinson, loved making quilts as wedding gifts for her sons, and baby quilts for her grandchildren.

Her loving family includes her sons and their wives, Jerry and Sherri Groening, Gordon and Shirley Groening all of Marion, Kansas; five grandchildren, Kristin (Matt) Brenzikofer, Justin (Tina) &nbsp;Groening, Jami (Ray) Helmer, Jenny (Aaron) Acree and Ross (Hannah) Groening; eleven great-grandchildren; Colton, Alli, Tori, Sara, Eli, Rebekah, Brennen, Hanna, Samuel, Marianne, and Levi; two great-great-grandchildren, Lyla and Elsie; two brothers, Harlin Duerksen of Newton, Kansas, Gerald (Mary Jo) Duerksen of Dallas Texas; one sister-in-law, Joan Duerksen of Newton.

Prairie View resident Jerald L. Huiting passed away March 3, 2020 at the Salina Regional Health Center in Salina, KS at the age of 74.&nbsp; He was born May 19, 1945 in Cawker City, the son of Jay &amp; Lillie (Moore) Huiting.&nbsp;
