Duane Marvin Snyder

Duane Marvin Snyderof Salina, passed away peacefully from this earth, while napping in his favorite recliner chair, on to his eternal heavenly home into God's hands on July 1, 2020.

Duane was born May 24, 1930 in Beloit, Kansas to Alice Spaulding Snyder and Ivan Snyder. He lived through difficult times in the Great Depression of the 1930's and during the Dirty 30's dust storms. He enjoyed being a member of the Boy Scouts of America and was proud to receive the Eagle Scout award.

Duane graduated from high school in Emmett, Kansas in 1948. He was a student at Kansas State University in 1948 and 1949.

Uncle Sam drafted Duane in 1950 for active duty military service and he joined the U.S. Army in 1951. He was proud to serve our country overseas in Japan and Korea in 1952 and 1953. Happy to return back home to Lucas, Kansas he became a member of the Active Army Reserves in Russell and Ellsworth. He also served with the Kansas National Guard units in Ellsworth and Salina. He retired with rank of First Sargent in 1976. He was an active member of VFW Post 1432 in Salina and was proud to serve on the Honor Guard.

Duane married the love of his life, Joyce Marie Barton, on March 1, 1951. He cherished the 69 years and 4 months they were together as husband and wife. He was the very best and greatest Daddy a girl could ever ask for to his three daughters, Vicky Jo, Jeanne Ann and Donna Kay.

Duane enjoyed and was proud of his 40 year career with KDOT Kansas Department of Transportation. He began in 1955 working in Ellsworth and transferred to Salina in 1967. He retired in 1995 as the District Shop Superintendent.

Duane is survived by his wife, Joyce. His daughters, Vicky Waterman and son-in-law Scott, Jeanne Knak and son-in-law Glenn, and Donna Zey and son-in-law Rick. His five grandchildren, Lauren Bonci, Robyn Lynn, David Knak, Andrew Knak and Kevin Knak. His great granddaughter, Konnor Kay Lynn.

Burial will take place in Lucas, KS with family graveside service, to help protect family and friends from threat of COVID-19. There will be no visitation as Duane had chosen cremation. Suggested memorials to honor Duane are to VFW Post 1432 or Central Kansas Flywheels in Salina.
