Martha Velasquez Reyna, 84, of Salina, passed away Sunday, February 16, 2025.&nbsp; She was born in Peidras Negro Mexico, on July 29, 1940.&nbsp; Martha enjoyed gardening and thrifting.

She is survived by her son Jesus Reyna, of Salina; daughter, Delia Velasquez-Pham, of Beverly; sister, Marialuisa Martinez, of Salina; thirteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.&nbsp;

She is preceded in death by her parents, Benito S and Maria C Velasquez; son, Joe G. Reyna and Israel Reyna; daughter, Rosalinda Reyna; brothers, Juan Contreras, Rudy Contreras, Santo Contreras, Silvester Contreras, Benito Velasquez Jr., and Fred Velasquez.

Vigil will be at 7 p.m.&nbsp;Sunday, February 23, at Sacred Heart Cathedral.&nbsp;

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Monday, February 24, 2025 at Sacred Heart Cathedral.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Rosella June (Nelson) Cline&nbsp;passed away February 15, 2025. Born on October 22, 1926, in Salina, Kansas to George E. &amp; Adelia (Frost) Nelson. She was raised on a farm near Smolan until the government took the farm to build Camp Phillips in 1942. Rosella’s parents moved to a farm south of Kipp, Kansas and she graduated from Kipp High School in 1944. She attended Brown Mackie School and worked as a bookkeeper at Jo-Mar Dairy.

Rosella was baptized, confirmed, and married at the Salemsborg Lutheran Church. She married Bernie Cline on June 15, 1947. They lived most of their married life on the farm by Kipp. Bernie passed away in 1987.

Rosella belonged to the FCE, the American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, Immanuel Lutheran Church, Welca group and the Alter Guild for many years. She also loved to travel and saw all fifty states, Europe, Canada, and Mexico. To keep busy, she worked part time doing bookkeeping jobs for over 20 years. &nbsp;

Survivors are son, Ron (Jane) Cline, Shawnee, KS, &amp; daughter Connie (Bernie) Dahl, Gypsum, KS.&nbsp; Sister Ella Mae Sadek, Tyler, TX. Four grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, two great granddaughters, six step great grandchildren. &nbsp;

Preceded in death, parents, George &amp; Adelia Nelson, husband, Bernie Cline, son Rick Cline.

Visitation at Ryan Mortuary Friday, February 21st from 5:00pm until 7:00pm. A private burial for family members at a later date.

Richard Kirby Allen, 84, Minneapolis, died Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at his son’s home in rural Salina. Kirby was born March 18, 1940, in Waycross, GA to Joe B. and Jesse (Sweat) Allen.

Kirby and Velena I. Woods were united in marriage on July 10, 1961. She preceded him in death on April 29, 2016. Kirby worked as a salesman for Warta Buick for many years. After he retired, he drove for the Ottawa County Health Department Public Transportation for several years.&nbsp;

Besides Velena, he was preceded in death by his parents; son, Timothy Scott Allen; and brothers, Artis, Larry, and Edward.

Survivors are his son, Joe Allen and wife, Angela; daughter-in-law, Tami Fabrizius and husband, Mike; brothers, Andy, Mike, and Rick; sisters, Linda, Marlene, and Doris; and six grandchildren.

Richard Kirby Allen

Kenneth Ray Snively, 71, Delphos, died Sunday, February 16, 2025, at his home. Kenny was born February 27, 1953, in Herington, to George and Mary Jo (Hoffman) Snively.

He and Sharon Maslen were united in marriage on June 2, 1973, in Wichita. After re-locating several times, Kenny and Sharon made their home on a farm near Delphos. He worked for Fruits Construction for many years as well as the MKC COOP. Kenny loved cooking and spending time with his family – especially his grandchildren.

Survivors are his wife of 51 years, Sharon; children, Daniel Snively and wife, Sun, Jeremy Snively and wife, Amber, Christa Lee and husband, Josh, and Ray Snively and wife, Emily; brothers, Mike and Jerry Snively; sister, Juli Beall; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M., Sunday, February 23, at Wilson Family Funeral Home, 405 Argyle Ave., Minneapolis, KS 67467. Kenneth Ray Snively

Joyce Wade was born in &nbsp;Barry County, Missouri on December 5, 1939, to James Virgil and Syble Long. &nbsp;She went to be with our Lord on Friday, February 14, 2025.

She is survived by her husband Charles Wade; her brother, John (Evonne) Long; her three sons, Chris (Bridget), Jim (Shelle), Anthony (Sarah) Boehm, and Christopher (Lara­) Wade; daughter, Reneé (Jeffrey) Norris; as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Joyce married Anthony John Boehm in 1958, and he was the father of their three sons. They were married 14 years. Joyce married Charles Wade, in October 2005. &nbsp;Early in the marriage, to pursue Charlie’s career, they moved to Minneapolis, Kansas where they built a life together and placed their membership at Christ the Lord Community Church. &nbsp;Joyce was actively involved in church and several ministries throughout her life and used her sewing and baking talents to bless the less fortunate and share the love of Christ. The most recent ministry was the Jail Ministry. &nbsp;Even though &nbsp;Joyce could no longer visit the jail she stayed in communication through her partner Lorita Nichols. Her church agreed to take up a yearly donation for the ministry and help with the Christmas cookie baking.

Joyce’s fighting spirit and strength endured through the final years of her life as she faced several health complications. Her life was a living testimony of unshakable faith as she continued to thank God for new mercies every morning. &nbsp;Her legacy lives on in the salvation of those she brought to the Lord; and for their generations to come.

On this day, although we may mourn the loss of an amazing mother, sister, grandmother, wife, and friend, we also find joy in the memories we carry with us. &nbsp;And find peace knowing Joyce is finally at rest and spending eternity with her heavenly Father.

Dennis Lee Albrecht, age 82, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Friday, February 14, 2025, at his home.&nbsp; Dennis was born May 7, 1942, at his home in Paradise, Kansas to Edward and Meta (Paulsen) Albrecht.&nbsp; Dennis grew up in the Paradise area and graduated from Paradise High School in 1960.&nbsp; He was married to his high school sweetheart, and the love of his life Donna (Schmidtberger) on July 7, 1963, in Paradise, Kansas.&nbsp; They made their home in Russell after marriage.&nbsp; The union was blessed with two daughters, Debra and Tamera.

Dennis attended trade school for a short time after graduating high school to become a mechanic but decided to join the work force instead.&nbsp; He worked for Mack-Welling Lumber Company and Harry Hibschman (Chief Industries), both of Russell.&nbsp; He also volunteered for the Russell Volunteer Fire Department.&nbsp; Dennis eventually became a self-employed carpenter for many years until he went to work for the Street Department at the City of Russell in 1987.&nbsp; He retired from there in 2005.&nbsp;

Family was important to Dennis who enjoyed attending his kids and grandkids’ sporting events.&nbsp; Dennis and Donna were also avid motorcycle riders and took many trips on their Goldwing during their younger years. Dennis was very interested in the mountain man culture and history and was a founding member of the Russell Muzzle Loaders Club.&nbsp; He attended every black powder rendezvous he could get to.&nbsp; He often just went to socialize and most of the time, didn’t even shoot his gun.&nbsp; He also taught his grandsons to shoot black powder and was very proud of them.&nbsp; Dennis and Donna also traveled on many Vosh trips to Panama delivering eyeglasses to the needy.

He is survived by two daughters Debra Morris (Case), and Tamera Krause (Richard) both of Russell, four grandchildren, Coady Morris (KC) and Kale Morris (Elizabeth) both of Russell and Nathan Krause (Melissa) of Wichita, and Ryan Krause of Manhattan, and three great grandchildren, Noah &nbsp;&amp; Benjamin Morris, and Wyatt Krause.&nbsp; He is preceded in death by his wife Donna, his parents, and three brothers, Donald, John, and Gary Albrecht.

Celebration of Dennis’ Life will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, February 21, 2025 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell.&nbsp; A Graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, at the Mt Hermon Cemetery in Paradise, Kansas.&nbsp; Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Thursday, at the Mortuary, with the family present to greet friends from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM.&nbsp; Memorial contributions can be made to Russell Muzzle Loaders. Terry Lynn Rivers, 58, of Junction City, Kansas, passed away Saturday, February 8th, 2025.

Terry was born in Dumas, Arkansas on July 1, 1966, to Dorothy Jean Marks and Raymond Augusta Nichols, Sr.

Her family described her in three words, charismatic, loving, and creative.

Terry loved her dog, Bandit very much. Education was very important to her and she instilled it into each of her children.

Terry loved to be the center of attention. Because of this, she made friends wherever she went. Many of them were her friends for life.

Survivors include her two daughters, Mishala Barron, Brandisia Nichols; sister, Tina Nichols-Waller; three brothers, Kirt Nichols (Janie), Raymond Nichols Jr., David Bragg Sr. (Jay); nephews, Anthony Nichols Sr., Kirt Nichols Jr., David Bragg Jr., Martye Madkins, Jesus Vargas, Luis Vargas-Gutierrez; nieces, Rosalind Nichols, Anabel Jordan, and Melissa Vargas.

Aunts and uncles, Helene Reese, Daniel Marks, Deborah Adams, Florence Marks, Margaret Luster, Mildred Washington, Darnett Nichols, Grace Nichols, Sammie Nichols, Marvin Nichols, and Leatrice Nichols.

Terry Lynn Rivers

Penny Jane (Phillips) Birdsong, 69, of Abilene, Kansas, formerly of Salina Kansas, passed away on February 14, 2025, at the University of Kansas Hospital in Kansas City, Kansas. Born on September 29, 1955, in Salina, Kansas, Penny was the daughter of Leonard Phillips and Bernetta (Cooley) Phillips. She graduated from Central High School in 1973 and on July 2nd, 1977 was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Douglas Birdsong, in Salina Kansas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Bernetta (Cooley) Phillips, brothers Gary and Jerry Phillips, and grandson Browynn Birdsong. She is survived by her husband, Doug Birdsong, her sister, Kay (Phillips) Lazlo, her three children Cory Birdsong and wife Kristin, Dustin Birdsong and wife Denae, Jerry Birdsong and wife Tara, nine grandchildren; Cadence, Viola, Annaleice, Grady, Treygan, Ruxton, Madison, Moxie, and Opal, and one great grandchild; Aleayah, and many other extended family and friends.

Penny dedicated her life to serving others. She began working at Dillon’s at the age of 15 and continued there until her retirement. After retiring, she worked with preschool-aged children in the local school system. Her commitment to her faith was evident through her active involvement at the First United Methodist Church of Salina, Kansas, where she taught adult Bible studies and served as a lay minister at various churches across central Kansas. Additionally, Penny volunteered with the Love Chloe Agency in Salina, Kansas, supporting their mission, which was dear to her heart.

A favorite quote of Penny's was: "You will teach them to fly, but they will not fly your flight. You will teach them to dream, but they will not dream your dream. You will teach them to live, but they will not live your life. Nevertheless, in every flight, in every life, in every dream, the print of the way you taught them will remain." — Mother Teresa

Doug and family will receive friends on Monday afternoon February 17, 2025, from 4 until 6 pm at the Ryan Mortuary, Salina.

Following cremation, a memorial service to honor Penny's life will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Salina, Kansas, at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday February 27, 2025.

Penny Jane (Phillips) Birdsong

William Prentice “Bill” Knox, 91, died February 13, 2025, in Salina, KS.&nbsp; He was born August 11, 1933, in Oklahoma City to Prentice Blaine Knox and Kathleen (Campbell) Knox.&nbsp;&nbsp; Bill was preceded in death by his wife Patricia “Pat”, his parents, and his brother Patrick.

Survivors include four children: Shaun Havard (Patrick) of Nevada City, CA; Jeffrey Knox (Paula) of Salina; Sandra Knox (Hugh Martin) of Albuquerque, NM; and John Knox (Juliet) of Denver, CO. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Will Havard (Shawn Szurley), Mara Havard, Scott Knox, Blaine Knox (Logan Hubbard), Craig Knox, Logan Knox (Miranda), Olivia Magera (Joe), and great-grandchildren: Colby and Grant Havard, Laurel Knox, and a baby great-granddaughter Knox arriving soon.&nbsp;

Bill was an accomplished athlete and attended the University of Oklahoma on scholarships for both baseball and basketball.&nbsp; He was named the Big 7 baseball player of the year while competing for OU.&nbsp; Bill married Patricia Lindsay on December 17, 1954, at the First Methodist Church in Norman, Oklahoma. Bill graduated from OU in 1955 with a BA in Business Administration and a minor in accounting.&nbsp; Upon graduation, he was also commissioned as a Second Lieutenant with the United States Air Force through the ROTC program.

In June 1955 Bill signed a professional baseball contract with the Boston Red Sox organization and played in the Carolina league in Greensboro, NC.&nbsp; In November 1955, he entered pilot training and earned his wings at Laredo AFB, TX in November 1956.&nbsp; He served two years as an air refueling pilot at Schilling AFB, KS in the KC97.&nbsp; Bill was honorably discharged in 1958 and joined Waddell and Reed Services in Salina. In 1959, he and Pat moved their family to Oklahoma City to continue his career with Waddell and Reed.&nbsp; While in Oklahoma, Bill joined the Oklahoma National Guard and for 10 years piloted aircraft around the world.&nbsp; In addition to the Guard, Bill continued his career with Waddell and Reed, first moving with his family to Coffeyville, KS, in 1963 and then to Salina in 1973.&nbsp; When Bill retired from Waddell and Reed in 1995, he held the position of Regional Vice President.

Bill was an avid golfer and successfully competed on an amateur level in local and regional tournaments.&nbsp; He also served as a Rules Official for both the Kansas Golf Association and for the United States Golf Association.&nbsp; Some of the many tournaments he officiated included the Men’s and Women’s US Open, the Men’s US Senior Open, and other USGA national championships.&nbsp; Bill was the driving force to build a new 6-hole golf course adjacent to Salina Municipal Course and establishing the First Tee Program of Salina.&nbsp;&nbsp; In 2010, in recognition of his Rules Officiating and his involvement in the Salina First Tee, Bill was elected to the Kansas Golf Hall of Fame.

When Bill was no longer able to play golf, he began competing at duplicate bridge.&nbsp; In a short time, he attained the rank of Bridge Bronze Life Master and became a certified club director and instructor. &nbsp;

Bill was an ardent supporter of First Tee, Salina Greater Community Foundation, the Salina YMCA, the Salina Presbyterian Manor, University of Oklahoma, United Way, and numerous other charities.&nbsp; Bill often said that his family was his greatest accomplishment.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, March 20, 2025 at Ryan Mortuary.&nbsp; A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 21st, at First Presbyterian Church Salina, with a reception following at the Salina Country Club. &nbsp;

In lieu of memorial gifts or flowers, Bill encourages you to do something you enjoy, preferably with a golf club.

Damon C. Christensen, age 88, of Concordia, KS passed away on Saturday, February 15, 2025 at the North Central Kansas Medical Center, Concordia, KS. He was born on July 1, 1936 in Jamestown, Kansas to Rufus E. Christensen &amp; Ann (Madox) Parker.

Damon received his diploma though Concordia High School while in the military. Damon served in the U.S Navy for 24 years where he earned the rank of Sr. Chief Petty Officer. While in the Navy he served on the USS Lexington, USS John F. Kennedy, USS Enterprise, served at the US Naval Station Guam and Rosie Roads Poritco along with several stateside duty stations.

He married Betty Vrchota and to this union five children were born, they later divorced. On September 22, 1984 he married Laura (Lawrence) Waite in Concordia, Kansas and gained four more children.

Damon was a Member of the American Legion Post #76 in Concordia where he served in all aspects of leadership from local to national levels. He was also a VFW-Life member.

Merrill James Standley, age 72, entered into rest on Monday 27, 2025, in Smith Center, Kansas. He was born February 21, 1952, in Beloit, Kansas to James and Dorintha (Becker) Standley.

He was a 1970 graduate of Esbon High School, Esbon, Kansas.

Merrill was an active member of the E.L.Church of Mankato, Mankato, Ks.

Merrill grew up on a family farm which made his love for the outdoors strong. In his younger years he liked to hunt and fish. Merrill also had a soft spot for his family pets especially his latest dog Taz who was a Westie. Most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends.

Merrill is survived by his daughter, Tina Zeller (Charles) Manhattan, Kansas; and his five grandchildren, Makayla Huey (Coleman), Manhattan, Kansas; Zakary Zeller, Manhattan, Kansas; Adalynn Zeller, Manhattan, Kansas; Mason Mackey, Denver, Colorado; and Clay Mackey, Denver, Colorado; three brothers, Kenneth Standley, Lebanon, Kansas; Kevin Standley, Osborne, Kansas; Rodney Standley, Lenexa, Kansas; and one sister, Diana Feldmann, Smith Center, Kansas; companion, Kay Beck, Salina, Kansas; along with many other relatives and special friends.

Merrill James Standley

Leon Charles Lutgen, age 88, passed away Wednesday, February 12, 2025 at the Presbyterian Manor in Salina, KS. He was born on the family farm North of Downs, KS on September 27, 1936 to Carl &amp; Della (Ottley) Lutgen.

Leon graduated from Downs High School in 1954 and served in the National Guard for 8 years following high school. He attended Wichita Drafting College for a year before attending and graduating from Fort Hays State University with a degree in Industrial Education.

Leon met Mary Lou Lumpkin at a dance in 1956, the two were married on June 3, 1961 in Smith Center, KS. To this union the couple were blessed with 3 boys, Cletus Brian (1962), Neil Wayne (1964) and Randall Leon (1965).

The Lutgen family lived in Bogue, KS for 7 years while Leon taught Industrial Arts (Shop Class) at Bogue High School. The family then moved to Kirwin, KS in 1970 where he then taught at Eastern Heights High School in Agra, KS until he retired in 1999. In 2012, Leon &amp; Mary Lou moved to Salina, KS to be closer to their boys, Neil and Randy.

Leon wasn’t just a loving husband, father and beloved teacher, he was also skilled in upholstery, woodworking and was a Master Gardener. Something he proudly passed on to&nbsp;his boys.

Leon is survived by his loving wife Mary Lou, of the home. Sons, Neil (Regina) Lutgen, Galva, KS and Randy (Jana) Lutgen, McPherson, KS. Siblings, Lois Churchill (CT), Loretta (Ray) Kovar (KS) and Mary Jane (Jim) Spencer (IA). Grandchildren, Cory (Courtney) Lutgen (KS), Brandon (Taylor) Lutgen (KS), Jacob Lutgen (KS) and Jessica Lutgen (KS) along with 5 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Charlene Foster &amp; her husband Charles, Mardella Dearing &amp; her husband Don and his son Cletus Lutgen.

Services are to be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Salina, KS on Saturday, February 22, 2025. A Rosery will be held in Leon’s honor at 9:30 a.m. with the funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. A meal will be provided at St. Mary’s following the service. Following the meal the burial will be held at the Kirwin Cemetery, Kirwin, KS.

He attended Wichita Drafting College for a year before attending and graduating from Fort Hays State University with a degree in Industrial Education.Leon met Mary Lou Lumpkin at a dance in 1956, the two were married on June 3, 1961 in Smith Center, KS. To this union the couple were blessed with 3 boys, Cletus Brian (1962), Neil Wayne (1964) and Randall Leon (1965).The Lutgen family lived in Bogue, KS for 7 years while Leon taught Industrial Arts (Shop Class) at Bogue High School. The family then moved to Kirwin, KS in 1970 where he then taught at Eastern Heights High School in Agra, KS until he retired in 1999. In 2012, Leon &amp; Mary Lou moved to Salina, KS to be closer to their boys, Neil and Randy.Leon wasn’t just a loving husband, father and beloved teacher, he was also skilled in upholstery, woodworking and was a Master Gardener. Something he proudly passed on to&nbsp;his boys.Leon is survived by his loving wife Mary Lou, of the home. Sons, Neil (Regina) Lutgen, Galva, KS and Randy (Jana) Lutgen, McPherson, KS. Siblings, Lois Churchill (CT), Loretta (Ray) Kovar (KS) and Mary Jane (Jim) Spencer (IA). Grandchildren, Cory (Courtney) Lutgen (KS), Brandon (Taylor) Lutgen (KS), Jacob Lutgen (KS) and Jessica Lutgen (KS) along with 5 great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Charlene Foster &amp; her husband Charles, Mardella Dearing &amp; her husband Don and his son Cletus Lutgen.Services are to be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Salina, KS on Saturday, February 22, 2025. A Rosery will be held in Leon’s honor at 9:30 a.m. with the funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. A meal will be provided at St. Mary’s following the service. Leon Charles Lutgen

Callie M. (Murphy) Reber, 89, of Concordia, formerly Ellsworth and McPherson,&nbsp;went to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on Wednesday, February 12th, 2025.

Callie Margaret Murphy was born in Emporia, KS to Calvin Earl Murphy and Blanche (Johnson) Murphy on May 23rd, 1935. She graduated from Emporia High School in 1952 then attended Clark’s Business College, Topeka, KS. Callie used her training as a secretary for several years. On June 7th, 1953, she was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Loren Albert Reber, in Emporia, KS.&nbsp;This union was blessed with three children, Lynette, Brett, and Lori.&nbsp; Loren preceded Callie in death on December&nbsp;22, 2022.&nbsp;Callie stayed at home with the kids, baby sat, sewed for people, was the first lady school bus driver in Madison, KS, sold Avon, was a teller and secretary at Columbia Savings and Loan, Emporia, and worked part time at the Ellsworth Reporter. From 1975-1982 she owned and operated Callie’s Card Corner.

Over the years, Callie was active in numerous clubs and organizations serving as an officer in nearly all of them. She was a charter member in both Hospice and Ambassadors in Ellsworth, KS. She was an active member in Smoky Hill DAR, Learn &amp; Earn Investment Club, Red Hat Society, Couples Pitch Club, Square Dancing Club, T.O.P.S. Club, P.E.O. Chapter EV, Bunco, Christian Women’s Outreach, and several bridge clubs.

Callie loved the Lord and committed her life to Jesus and was baptized in 1972. She served and attended Methodist churches until 2014 when she joined the Concordia Wesleyan Church. Callie attended many Bible studies and was active in Sunday school, UMW &amp; Circle.

Callie’s most treasured mission outside of family was her founding role and continuing service at the Ellsworth Correctional Facility where she served on the Community Relations Board and Spiritual Life Center Board of Directors for several decades. For this passion, she was awarded the 1993 Ellsworth Correctional Facility volunteer of the year secretary’s commendation of the Kansas Department of Corrections.

Survivors include: her children,&nbsp;Lynette (Scott) McGonagle of Smithfield, NC, Brett (Kathryn) Reber of McPherson, KS, and Lori (Allyn) Kaufmann of Salina, KS;&nbsp;ten&nbsp;grandchildren, Matthew (Kelli) McGonagle, Megan (Brandon) Moor, John Reber (Mary Vernon), Callie (Ryan) Ventura, Joseph (Caroline) Reber, Luke Reber, Aaron (Brittney) Kaufmann, Allyssa (Razvan) Savu, Alex Kaufmann, and Austin Kaufmann; 11 great-grandchildren, Madilin McGonagle, Caroline McGonagle, Kait McGonagle, Lilli McGonagle, Thomas Reber, Charlotte Reber, Laker Kaufmann, Van Kaufmann, Ellis Savu, Emric Savu, and Baby Savu; and many extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother, Earl Murphy; and sister, Sally Estes.

A memorial&nbsp;service will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, Feb. 22, 2025, at the Concordia Wesleyan Church, 1517 Cedar, Concordia, KS 66901.

Callie M. (Murphy) Reber

Peggy Ann Korinek Cantrell, 76, of Glendale, Arizona, passed away peacefully on Monday, Feb. 3, 2025.

Peggy was born in Ellsworth, Kansas on August 14, 1948, a daughter of the late Frances and Myles Korinek. Peggy was a draftsman for approx. 40 years with various companies throughout her career. She worked for Central Arizona Project for the past 13 yrs. in Phoenix until her retirement in 2015.

On Nov. 21, 1983, Peggy married Ron L. Cantrell.

Survivors include her husband, Ron, of Glendale, AZ.; step-children, Travis (Beth) Cantrell of Savage, MN., Rebecca (Al) of Glendale, AZ., Richard (Courtney) Cantrell of Glendale, AZ. and  9 step-grandchildren: Hunter Cantrell , Maxwell (Hannah) Cantrell &amp; Hannah Cantrell; Eddie and Robert Ellis; Jackson, Abigail, Aubrey and Cason Cantrell.

She is also survived by her siblings, Jim (Juanita) Korinek of Salina, KS; Frank Korinek of Salina, Ks; Dixie (Dennis) Riley of Eskridge, KS. along with 5 nieces and nephews; Shelly Korinek, Ryan (Ra Shel) Korinek, Nicole (Jason) Hopkins, Erin (Jeremy) Lord, Nathan (Misty) Riley and 20 great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister-in-law, Lourena Korinek.

A Celebration of Life will be set at a later date.  In lieu of flowers,

Mary Kathryn Likes, 78, of New Cambria, died peacefully February 14, 2025, with her sons by her side in Hutchinson. She was born December 9, 1946, in Salina, to Harold and Margaret (Bross) Andrews.

Mary graduated from Solomon High School in 1964. She worked in retail management for many years. Mary was a member of Peace Lutheran Church of New Cambria.&nbsp;

She is survived by: her sons, Johnny Likes of Hutchinson, Dan Likes of Lyons; ten grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and sister, Karen Morris (Gary) of New Cambria.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents.

Cremation has taken place and private family services will be held.

Linda Roxanne (Roxie) Miller of Mesa, Arizona, formerly of Salina, Kansas, passed away peacefully at home after a brief illness on Tuesday, January 14, 2025. She was born August 1, 1953 at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Hays, Kansas, to Alcide Francis and Janet Roberta (Brin) Balthazor.

Linda is survived by her four children: Michelle (Smith) Amado of Gilbert, Arizona, Ryan Smith of Victoria, Kansas, Jenea Miller of Mesa, Arizona, and Jake Miller of St. Francis, Kansas; seven grandchildren; a sister, Melanie Britegam of Salina, brothers John Balthazor of Wake Forest, North Carolina, and Tracy Balthazor of Salina.

Roxie spent her early years in Damar, Kansas, moving to Salina in 1967. She graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1971, and moved from Salina to Casa Grande, Arizona in 1983. She spent the majority of her working career at Electrical District Number 2, commuting from Casa Grande to Coolidge, until a near-fatal car accident on the way to work left her permanently disabled.

A mass of Christian burial is planned for Friday, February 21, at 1:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Cathedral, 118 N. 9th St., Salina, Kansas, with Father John Schmeidler presiding.

Cynthia Clara (Avila) Merrill, 83, was welcomed home to join her loved ones and her Lord Jesus Christ on January 28, 2025. She was born November 3rd, 1941 in North Dartmouth, Massachusetts to Joseph and Mary (Motta) Avila.&nbsp;On September 5th, 1959, she married Gary James Merrill.&nbsp;&nbsp; They made Salina, Kansas their home to work and raise their family. Cindy worked at Duffens Optical as a clerk for over 30 years.

 Cindy had many friends but she loved being with family most of all. Rarely did she miss one of her grandchildren's many events. She and Gary became snowbirds in retirement and headed to Florida in the winter months. Their RV was home in the sunny state and was also parked many days in the summer at Milford Lake. 

They have been season ticket holders to Kansas State Football since the early 70's and still have the same seats. As the family grew, seats were purchased around them and the family has a total of 18. We all know better not to schedule anything on a day the Wildcats play at home. After Gary's death in 2013, Cindy and her daughters started delivering Meals on Wheels one week a month for 11 years.&nbsp; Cindy leaves behind many who adore her and feel the void as much as her family does. She was always ready for an adventure with us. Four wheeling in the mountains, white water rafting in Colorado, parasailing in Florida, paddleboarding at Wilson Lake, riding horses in Branson and any concert in the area are just a few. She is preceded in death by her husband Gary, her parents Joseph and Mary Avila, her brothers James and Joseph Jr., her sisters, little Shirley who passed at the age of 4, Betty Avila and Shirley Avila.&nbsp; Father and Mother-in-law Russell and Winifred Merrill, Brother-in-law Mike Merrill and Sister-in-Law Marilyn Herwig.

Survivors include her three children, David (Carol) Merrill, Briana (John) Olson, and Linda (Dan) Mendicina. Sister Rosalie (Louie) Baptiste, and sister-in-law Suzanne Canada. Grandchildren, Chelsey (Adrian) Nolasco, Shawncie (Ryan) Hamilton, Hailie (Warren) King, Dylan Mendicina, Paige (Michael) Cook, Joshua (Jessica) Olson, Carlie Olson, Chris (Jennifer) Fritz, Justin (Melissa) Fritz, and Jackie (Sergio) Correa, 17 great grandchildren and two twin boys due in April. Also, many nieces, nephews and her faithful four legged buddy, Chevy. &nbsp;

We will celebrate Cindy's life February 21, 2025 at First Covenant Church, 2625 E. Magnolia, Salina, Kansas at 10:30 am. Lunch will follow immediately after the service followed by a private burial for family members.

Memorials may be made to Meals On Wheels or the Salina Animal Shelter.

Thank you for loving our Cindy as much as we do. She was such a gem in our family and made everything in life so much fun. Our loss is truly Heaven's gain. Her great grandson Jace described her perfectly….she made our dark clouds disappear and brought in the sunlight.

Cynthia Clara (Avila) Merrill

With profound faith and a heart filled with love, Linda Sue Weiland, 76, of Minneapolis, Kansas, passed away on February 12, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

Sue was born in Salina, Kansas on February 24,&nbsp;1948, daughter of Francis “Buck” and LaVada (Hofflinger) Istas.

She and Steve Barnett were married July 5, 1969, and two sons, Eric and Justin were born. On October 14, 1989, she was united in marriage to William (Bill) Weiland. They lived most of their married life in Bennington, Kansas. She retired from Bennett Autoplex in Salina, Kansas after working for more than 30 years. Sue loved gardening, decorating for all the holidays, and making “birthday signs” for her family.

She was a devoted parishioner of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Minneapolis, Kansas and she found great strength in prayer.

Beloved by all who knew her, Sue is survived in death by her sons, Justin Barnett (Jenny) of Tescott, Kansas,&nbsp; Jeremy (Diane) Weiland of Ellsworth, Kansas; and daughter, Meredith (Nick) Gleason; grandchildren, Brookelyn, Luke, Owen, Bristol, Brynlee and Jessica; sisters Midge (Terry) Gartner and Nancy Muehl of Minneapolis, Kansas; Aunts Shirley Lott of Minneapolis, Kansas and Theresa Peltier of Concordia, Kansas; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

 </figure>With profound faith and a heart filled with love, Linda Sue Weiland, 76, of Minneapolis, Kansas, passed away on February 12, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.Sue was born in Salina, Kansas on February 24,&nbsp;1948, daughter of Francis “Buck” and LaVada (Hofflinger) Istas.She and Steve Barnett were married July 5, 1969, and two sons, Eric and Justin were born. On October 14, 1989, she was united in marriage to William (Bill) Weiland. They lived most of their married life in Bennington, Kansas. She retired from Bennett Autoplex in Salina, Kansas after working for more than 30 years. Michael “Wally” Roy Gray, of Salina, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, February 11th, 2025, peacefully in the presence of his family

Mike was born in North Platte, Nebraska on September 11, 1959, to Bob and Lois Gray (Camenga).

Mike (Wally) grew up in Imperial, Nebraska and graduated from Chase County High School. He spent many weekends and summers farming with his family. He maintained his love of farming throughout his life by helping various farmers around Salina and he had a large garden for many years.

Mike has spent the past 30 years as a mechanic on industrial turbochargers for Cooper Machinery Service in Salina, Kansas.

In his free time, he loved skiing, hunting, ATVing, watching Nebraska Husker football and the Kansas City Chiefs. He was an avid welder, and he created some beautiful metal sculptures. Wally was not a stranger to anyone, and he leaves behind a large host of friends and family. There was nothing more important to him than keeping in touch with those he cared about.

Survivors include his mother, Lois Gray; sisters, Gretchen Sutherland (Tim), Carrie Johnson (Brian); brothers, Kass Gray (Melinda), Todd Gray (Maureen), Dirk Gray (Sandra) and his devoted and loving dog Bella.

He is also survived by nephews and nieces, Jill Smith, Brooke Kotz, Kyle Gray, Adam Johnson, Karlee Grant, Skyler Sutherland, Alex Gray, Brittney Scherrer, Kade Gray, Joel Gray and numerous great nephews and nieces.

Michael is preceded in death by his father, Robert Gray, paternal grandparents, Roy and Mary Gray, maternal grandparents, Silas and Lillian Camenga.

Mike chose cremation and services will be announced at a later date.

Donations made in Mike’s memory will be directed to, Kass Gray, for future charitable giving in care of Carlson-Geisendorf Funeral Home.

Jimmie “Jim” Lee Ehrlich, 85, of Wilson, KS, passed away on February 11, 2025, at the Salina Regional Health Center in Salina, KS. He was born on May 14, 1939, in Susank, KS to Julius and Eunice (Steinle) Ehrlich. He married LaNita Thompson on March 11, 1965, in Salina, and together they were blessed with four sons: Rob, Monty, Cliff, and Cody.

Jim grew up in Claflin, Kansas and attended Claflin High School. He proudly served in the United States Navy as a Machinist’s Mate. Throughout his life, Jim had a varied and successful career, working as the Vice President for Ehrlich Drilling Company and was owner/operator of A-1 Radiator and J&amp;L Trucking both based in Wilson. He also served as a general maintenance and repair technician for the Kansas Department of Wildlife &amp; Parks. Jim was a board member of the Rolling Hills Electric Cooperative. He was proud to be a licensed private pilot.

A man of many interests and commitments, Jim was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, a Master Mason with the Freemasons, a Shriner with Iris Temple, and a member of the American Legion. His dedication to family, community, and country was reflected in all that he did.

Jim is survived by his wife, LaNita of the home in Wilson; sons, Rob (Kristy) Ehrlich of Tulsa, Monty (Susie) Ehrlich of Topeka, Cliff (Michelle) Ehrlich of Topeka, and Cody Ehrlich of Salina; sisters-in-law, Annie Ehrlich of Haven, KS, and Vera Ehrlich of Wilson; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Julius and Eunice Ehrlich, and brothers, Darrell and Tom Ehrlich.

Jim’s presence will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.

Jimmie “Jim” Lee Ehrlich

Norma E. Bruns, 106, of McPherson, KS, and formerly of Abilene, KS, passed away on Thursday, January 30, 2025, at Pine Village, Moundridge.

Norma was born on a farm east of Milford, KS on August 26, 1918, the second of six children born to Charles Ernest Martin and Johannah Augusta (Steinbruck) Martin. She grew up in the Longford area, graduating valedictorian of the Longford High School class of 1936. She started her teaching career that fall under a Normal Training Certificate, just two weeks after her 18th birthday. She later got her Bachelor’s degree from Kansas State University and continued teaching until 1980.

She taught at several one-room schools in the Milford and Longford areas, as well as in public schools in Junction City, Chapman and Abilene. She taught a great number of students over the years and most always had a positive attitude and great hopes for each one. At age 99, Norma was putting names on pictures of her students from 1943.

She also taught me that a cinnamon roll will catch fire in a microwave if you cook it long enough (9+ minutes, but who is counting?). These things you learn from life’s experiences.

She loved music and played piano and after her prized piano at home became unrepairable, she had the shell made into 2 blanket chests. Her passions were family and friends, music, birds, books and her devotion to God.

She married Kenneth Ivan Bruns on January 24, 1950 and had one child, Kendall Dean Bruns. They were later divorced.

She outlived her parents, five siblings, a niece (Sherry Puckett) and four nephews (Tom Diehl, Lowell Brown, Dana Brown and Stephen Brown).

She is survived by her son Dean and his wife Julie of McPherson, KS; grandchildren Jayme (Roy) Hamilton of Phoenix AZ, Michael (Amanda) Bruns of McPherson, KS, and Carolyn (Lee) Collins of Stem, NC; great-grandchildren Braedon Hamilton, Aliya Bruns, Evan Bruns, and Annalise Collins (another is expected in June).

Other survivors include nieces Denise (Mike) Poorman of Lynnwood, WA and Pam (Carl) Rowson of Savage, MN; nephews Terry (Diana) Owens of Los Fresnos, TX and Martin (Kay) Brown of Omaha, NE.

She cherished a great many friendships over the years.

Norma was fiercely independent, resourceful and at times, more than a little bit stubborn. With help from her family and other caregivers, Norma was able to stay in her own home until the final three months of her life.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, April 12, 2025, at McPherson church of Christ. Memorials are suggested to either Hospice and Homecare of Reno County or The Morrison House in Salina, KS in care of Stockham Family Funeral Home, 205 North Chestnut, McPherson, KS 67460.

Esther R. (Montague) Harner, 90, of Salina, Kan., passed away Monday, February 10, 2025. She was born October 12, 1934, in Minneapolis, Kan., to Floyd E. and Bertha E. (Ayers) Montague. Esther was one of 11 children and grew up and attended school in Minneapolis.

Esther was a devoted mother, wife and friend to many.&nbsp; Her favorite activities included cooking large meals for her family, baking, and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.&nbsp; She loved to garden and her peonies were the envy of many.&nbsp; She fiercely loved her family and was happiest when she was surrounded by them.&nbsp; She has been described as the “rock” of her family and will be dearly missed by her children and grandchildren.

Harner; brothers, Elmer “Bob”, Virgil, Victor, Billy, Frank “Bud”, and Larry; sisters, Elma Postlethwaite, Josephine Werneke, Verla Smith, and Albertha Adam.Survivors include her children, Elizabeth McCormick (Mike Davis), Tim (Lori) Harner, and Cory (Gwen) Harner; grandchildren, Taylor (Phil) Urban, Austin (Katrina) Harner, Logan Harner (Madelyn Hayes), Joshua Owens (Jessica Meissner) and Brayden Toney; great grandchildren, Theo and Wesley Urban, Nora Harner, and Kinsley Meissner; and many nieces and nephews.A private family graveside service will be held at Highland Cemetery, Minneapolis.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, care of Ryan Mortuary, Salina.
