William Edward Vaupel, 98, of Salina, passed away Tuesday, February 25, 2025.&nbsp; He was born on January 11, 1927, to William H. and Stella M. (Yockers) Vaupel, in Salina.&nbsp; Bill attended Solomon High School and joined the United State Naval Corp before graduating.&nbsp; After the military he joined the Salina Fire Department where he retired as a Platoon Chief after 31 years of service. &nbsp;

He enjoyed camping with friends, was a member of the Good Sam RV &amp; Travel Club, was an outdoor sportsman, and loved wintering in Arizona in his RV with his wife Ellen.&nbsp; He was a devoted husband and father to his surviving sons: William Vaupel Jr., Gary Vaupel (Tamra), and Ronald Vaupel (Suzanne); with six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ellen; and brother Don Vaupel.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m., Friday, March 7, at Ryan Mortuary, with family present from 4:30-6 p.m.&nbsp;Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, March 8, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Salina, with burial following at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Salina. &nbsp;&nbsp;Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, in care of Ryan Mortuary, Salina. &nbsp;

William Edward Vaupel

Michael Dean Shoemaker, Colonel, US Air Force (Retired), passed away peacefully and surrounded by family at the age of 77, on Saturday, February 15, 2025, in Nashville, TN. Mike was born October 20, 1947, in Kansas City, MO and was adopted by Carl and Wilma (Wallace) Shoemaker and raised in Minneapolis, Kansas.

He graduated from Minneapolis High School in 1965 and then from Kansas State University.&nbsp; He was commissioned as an officer in the United States Air Force in the early 1970s and trained as a Weapons Systems Officer (WSO) in the F-4 Phantom II.&nbsp; His first two operational assignments were in Taiwan and the Philippines.&nbsp; He met his wife of 48 years, Denice, when she visited her sister – a wife of Mike’s squadron mate – in Spain.&nbsp; They married in 1976.&nbsp; Around this time, Mike graduated from the US Air Force’s elite Fighter Weapons School and was stationed in the Netherlands and United Kingdom – flying from bases all over Europe and the Middle East. 

Throughout his career, Mike and his family were stationed at the Air Force Academy; the Pentagon; Randolf AFB, TX; and Scott AFB, IL. After being promoted to “Full Bird” Colonel,&nbsp;Mike concluded his career commanding a NATO group in Paris, France. While in Paris, he often surprised the French with his thick accent and large Chevy Suburban. After he retired from the Air Force, he worked as a Sales Executive for Alloy Surfaces, near Philadelphia, until 2012, supplying missile-distracting flares to all branches of the U.S. military and its allies.&nbsp; During his fourteen-year career with Alloy Surfaces, he traveled the world, interacted with officials at the highest levels, and loved to hear from US aviators about how these flares “saved their lives.”&nbsp; In retirement, Mike was a lover of music, guitars, classic cars, Nashville, and his hometown of Minneapolis, KS.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Carrie Shoemaker, an Ensign in the US Navy who was tragically killed by a drunk driver, and son-in-law, Ronald Luce, a US Army Special Forces officer, who lost his life in combat in Afghanistan.&nbsp;

Mike Shoemaker is survived by his wife of 48 years, DeeDee; children, Michael, Matthew, Kendahl, and Ashley; brother, Charles “Chuck” Shoemaker; grandchildren, Carrie Ella, Aidan, and Theodore.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., Friday, March 7, at Wilson Family Funeral Home, 405 Argyle Ave., Minneapolis, KS 67467. Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, March 8, at the First Presbyterian Church, 102 E. Second St., Minneapolis, KS 67467. Amy Lynnette Flesher, 54, of Salina, passed away at Salina Regional Health Center on Saturday February 22nd, 2025, surrounded by her three Daughters and her oldest granddaughter. She was Born in Bellefontaine, Ohio on March 8th, 1970.

She was adopted by Robert and Lois Gillham in Ohio shortly after birth and later the family re-located to Kansas.

Amy graduated from Salina South High School in 1988.

Survivors include her Daughters: Hannah, Jurissicca (Meghan), Alissa and son Camryn. Her ten beloved Grandchildren Jadda, Abel, Kasyn, Kayleigh, Ellie, Christopher, Maxin, Alexis, Kimberly, Kaylee. And Brothers Curtis (Leann), Robert and Dustin. Along with some aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her Father Robert Gillham in 2000, Her husband Robert Flesher in 2007, her Mother Lois Haug in 2020, and her stepfather Terry Haug in 2022.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, March 14, 20254 at 1:00 PM in the Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Inurnment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Salina, KS. Memorials may be made to her daughter, Alissa Culifer to assist with funeral expenses.

Amy Lynnette Flesher

Stephen Collister Ryan, 83, of Salina, passed away Monday, February 24, 2025. The eldest of four boys, he was born to the late Kenneth Richard and Janys Collister Ryan on January 10, 1942, in St. John's Hospital, Salina. He was an active lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church. Steve married Lynne Kathryn Slease on June 18, 1966, in the East Heights United Methodist Church, Wichita, Kansas.

A member of the Class of 1960, Salina High School, he earned six athletic letters in football, basketball and track. He was the right tackle on the Mustangs first undefeated football team in 1959.

Steve attended the University of Kansas and received a BS degree in Business Administration in 1964 and a Certificate of Graduation from the Mortuary Science Program at the KU Medical Center, Kansas City, KS in 1965. He was a cadet member of the Air Force ROTC program (The Flying Jayhawks). He was also a member of the Arnold Air Society, Alpha Kappa Psi and the Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity.

He received his Air Force officer's commission upon completion of the Summer Training Unit at Schilling AFB, in Salina, KS, on July 10th, 1964. Ryan served as Wing Administrative Officer, 351st Strategic Missile Wing (SAC), Whiteman AFB, Mo, (1965-67) and Chief Administrative Services, 6932nd Security Group (USAFSS), Samsun Air Station, Samsun, the Republic of Turkey (1967-69). He attained the rank of Captain and completed his tour of active duty in January 1969.

A third generation licensed funeral director, he followed his Grandfather (Guy R, Sr.) and Father (Kenneth R,) in serving as the President and CEO for 42 years (1980-2021) of the family owned business. He was a founding board member of Ryan Mortuary, Inc. in 1969 and established the Memorial Trust Plan, Inc. in 1984. Working alongside his father, his son (Scott R,), three brothers, (Marc R., Karl F., and Eric K.), a sister-in-law (Martha A.), an uncle, (Guy R., Jr.), a cousin (Jerry J.), and two nephews (Luke L. and&nbsp; Sean O.) Steve provided guidance for over sixty years and transitioned to a role as senior advisor in 2021.

Steve was a lifetime member of the Academy of Professional Funeral Service Practice. He served as president or vice president of the Kansas State Board of Mortuary Arts from 1996-2005. He was a member of the Board of Directors of Selected Independent Funeral Homes from 1992 to 1997, which allowed him to travel and study some of the leading firms in funeral service. He was honored to be chosen as the board’s president in 1996.

Steve was a 50-year member of Salina Masonic Lodge #60; a Life member of the Salina Scottish Rite Consistory, 33rd Degree Honorary; a 50-year member of Isis Temple Shrine; former member of the Isis Patrol (Patrol Captain 1971-76); and Salina Court #94, Royal Order of Jesters.

An involved citizen, Steve felt honored to hold many leadership roles in the community. He served on the board of directors of the Salina Area Chamber of Commerce for 10 years. In 2021 he was inducted into the Chamber's Salina Business Hall of Fame. He was elected to two consecutive four-year terms on the Salina City Commission. Steve was proud to serve as Salina’s mayor in 1987-1988 and 1991-1992.

He was grateful to serve on the following committees: Salina Downtown Lions Club, 1969-2021, 50 year member, President 1979-80; Salina Planning Commission, 1981-85, Chairman 1983-84: Kansas Wesleyan University, Board of Trustees, 1998-2007, Chairman, 2004-06; Greater Salina Community Foundation, Board of Directors, 2002-10, Chairman 2006-07; Salina Airport Authority Board of Directors, 2003-11, Chairman 2007-08; Salina Regional&nbsp; Health Foundation, Board of Trustees, 2003-11, Chairman, 2007-09; Salina Arts and Humanities Foundation, Board of Directors, 2009-18, Chairman, 2015-17.

He had a long-lasting, over 70 years, membership with the Salina Family YMCA, serving ten years, 1975-85, on the Board of Directors; and two years, 1981-83, as Board President. He was a founding incorporator of the YMCA Endowment Fund, on which he served for 36 years as an officer; and 16 years, 2001-17 as President of the Endowment Board of Directors.

An avid recreational golfer, Steve was a strong advocate of the First Tee of Salina. He was a member of this golf program Board of Directors for 14 years (2001- 2014). Steve was an active member of the Salina Gridiron Club, 1996-2018 and a longtime member of the Salina Country Club, where he served on the board of directors from 1998-2002, and as club president from 2001-2002.

Steve was a Life Member of the University of Kansas Alumni Association and member of the Williams Educational Fund. He was a loyal season ticketholder of both Jayhawk football and basketball programs for over 40 years. Rock Chalk!

Steve was also a Life member of both the Salina Elks Lodge and the Salina American Legion Post #62. The Friday Night Social Group is gratefully acknowledged.&nbsp; Adjustments were appreciated whenever possible.

Along with his enthusiasm for golf and the Jayhawks, Steve loved to share his passion for travel and history with his grandchildren.

Steve was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, William Slease. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lynne; son Scott and wife DeDe; daughter Carrie Wilson and husband John; three brothers, Marc and wife Marty, Karl and wife Jody and Eric; sister-in-law Judy Slease; four grandchildren, Rylee Wilson and fiancé Caleb McCullough, Amy Wilson, Collister Ryan and William Ryan, as well as his Buerkle, Ferguson, and Ryan cousins, nephews and nieces.

Visitation will be from noon until 8 p.m. Thursday, March 6, 2025, at Ryan Mortuary, with family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, at St. John's Lutheran Church, 302 S. 7th St., Salina, the Rev. Kim Frederking officiating. Burial will be in Gypsum Hill Cemetery, Salina. A reception will follow at the Salina Country Club.

Stephen Collister Ryan

Stella Lois Adkins, 69, of Salina, Kan., left her spirit and memories on earth and departed this life on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at Salina Regional Hospital, surrounded by her family. She was born in Montgomery, Ala., to Joseph and Betty (Counterman) Panna, on February 15, 1956.

Stella spent most of her life in Salina. As a young girl, she would frequent the Fox Theater, the Municipal swimming pool and Playland Park. Stella graduated from Salina South High School in 1974. She was ambitious and managed several businesses over the years such as Taco Grande, The Bedroom Showplace, Pools Plus, and Long John Silvers.

Stella was a devoted mother who unconditionally loved her three children and cherished being a grandmother, who they fondly called their “Nina”. She loved gardening, thrifting, cardinals, and sunflowers and enjoyed riding around the countryside. Stella would often say to her family “Let’s go funning”.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Betty Panna, and grandparents, Raymond and Clara Counterman, and Stephen and Stella Panna.

She is survived by her children, Michael Reid, of Salina, Jennifer Keene (Mike) and Rebecca Adkins, both of Valley Center, Kan.; her grandchildren, who brought her so much pride and adoration, Olivia Hill, Victoria Moore, Levi Clark, Hanna Adkins, and Addison Keene. She was ambitious and managed several businesses over the years such as Taco Grande, The Bedroom Showplace, Pools Plus, and Long John Silvers.Stella was a devoted mother who unconditionally loved her three children and cherished being a grandmother, who they fondly called their “Nina”. She loved gardening, thrifting, cardinals, and sunflowers and enjoyed riding around the countryside. Stella would often say to her family “Let’s go funning”.She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Betty Panna, and grandparents, Raymond and Clara Counterman, and Stephen and Stella Panna.She is survived by her children, Michael Reid, of Salina, Jennifer Keene (Mike) and Rebecca Adkins, both of Valley Center, Kan.; her grandchildren, who brought her so much pride and adoration, Olivia Hill, Victoria Moore, Levi Clark, Hanna Adkins, and Addison Keene. Peggy Delores (Douglas) Schoenberger, 78, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at her home in Russell.

Peggy was born July 6, 1946, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She was one of five children to William E. and Evelyne O. (Qualls) Douglas. She grew up in Ellis, Kansas, and graduated from Ellis High School in 1964. She then attended and graduated with a degree in Cosmetology from the Cosmetology School of Hays. She also attended classes at Ft. Hays State University for Pottery and Photography.

Peggy met the love of her life James “Jim” Schoenberger and were united in marriage on July 31, 1966 in Collyer, Kansas. This union was blessed with three children, Sharon, James Jr, and Jason. They made their home in Ellis for a couple of years before moving to Russell in 1969. Jim preceded her in death on January 4, 2020.

Peggy was a Cosmetologist in Russell for many years. She owned the Hair Shack and later she and her daughter, Sharon opened, Scissors Family Hair Design. She worked several years with Travenal, with her sister Barbara. She attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She was a member of the Russell Elks Lodge, Russell VFW Post #6240 Ladies Auxiliary and Delta Mu Sorority. Some of her favorite things to do in life were; doing arts and crafts like pottery, dishes, stain glass windows, drawings and doing art shows at the Deines Cultural Center; traveling with Jim to Homer, Alaska and Branson, Missouri. She loved going to the casinos, cooking for family and friends, taking pictures, getting her lottery tickets and cappuccino’s in Russell. She also enjoyed spending time with her family.

Irma Burger, 96 died February 26, 2025, in Clay Center, KS.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was born on February 6, 1929, in Green, KS, the daughter of William and Mary (Walker) Lang.&nbsp;&nbsp;Irma was raised in the Green community and was a graduate of the Green High School.&nbsp;&nbsp;She married Alfred W. Burger on April 23, 1950, in Clay Center Kansas at the St Paul Lutheran church parsonage as the church was under construction.&nbsp;&nbsp;Irma has remained a member of the congregation for 75 years. Alfred preceded her in death on October 2, 2000.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Marjorie Anthony, Helen Brunker and Shirley Merritt, and brothers, Rex and Paul Lang.

Irma was a proud farm wife and worked with her husband on the farm. She also worked at Tasty Pastry Bakery, Browne’s Clothing, Clay County Hospital as a Nurse’s Aide and at Presbyterian Manor in the dietary department.

Irma Burger

Barbara Lee (Helmer) Bessel, 77, of Assaria, Kansas, passed away on February 25, 2025, with her loved ones by her side to join her family in heaven. She was born March 24, 1947, in Marion, Kansas to George and Leona (Higgins) Helmer.

Barb graduated high school in Marion, Kansas and in 1964, she married her high school sweetheart Jerry Bessel in Marion, Kansas. Barb and Jerry just recently celebrated 60 years of marriage on December 6. Barb and Jerry had a marriage like none other. They were often seen holding hands and where one was the other was too.&nbsp;

She then started her career as a bank teller for Assaria Bank. Then transitioned to First Bank Kansas in Salina for the remainder of her 35 years. Through this Barb had many customers who became friends and remained so over the years.

Family was very important to her. Barb spent her life doing for others. If she wasn't going to an event for her daughters, then she was planning an event. When the grandchildren came, she started going to all their activities. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy.&nbsp;

Her house was always decorated for every holiday and so was she. From wearing holiday shirts to holiday shoes. She loved to celebrate.

You couldn’t tell if Barb was having a bad day or feeling pain. She always had a smile. It was a contagious smile. She had a way of lifting others up when they needed it. Because of this she did not know a stranger. Everywhere they went she knew someone.

She was very involved in community activities such as Assaria Pride, Assaria Lions Club, and a member of Beta Sigma Phi Kansas Delta Master Chapter #MA172 since 1969. Barb was also a member of the Mentor United Methodist Church.

Barb’s unwavering dedication to her family, faith, and community will be deeply missed by all that knew her.

She is survived by her husband Jerry Bessel, Daughters: Wendy (Jo) Holtz; Marci (Aaron) Finck; Grandchildren: Alexis Holtz, Haylee Holtz, Logan Holtz and Kherrington Finck and Great-Granddaughters: Nya Mendenhall and Octavia Holtz; Sisters: Linda Stucky and Brenda (Mark) Buller. Barb is also survived by her many nephews, nieces, and cousins, along with countless friends.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her mother Leona Helmer, father George Helmer, step-mother Carol Helmer, sister Georgie Vogel, niece Darla Gore, and many beloved aunts and uncles.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Barbara Lee (Helmer) Bessel

Gloria Kahler, age 83, passed away peacefully Monday, February 17, 2025 in Lindsborg, KS. She was born August 13, 1941 in Clay County, KS to Kenneth and Naomi (McCormick) Hite.

Gloria grew up in Oak Hill, KS and graduated from Clay Center High School. She worked in the health care field and gained much satisfaction from it, working many years in Clay Center and Yates Center. She married Howard Kahler in 1987 and lived in several communities, finally retiring in Lindsborg, KS. Gloria was a loving mother and grandmother and her talents were many. She had a beautiful voice and when they were younger, often sang harmony with her sister at various events. She also sang in the church choir, was in a bowling league for many years, and loved to paint, crochet and decorate her home. She will be remembered for her baking and her willingness to fill containers with her famous chocolate chip cookies to give to her children and grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her twin sister, Gladys Conner.

She is survived by her loving husband of 38 years, Howard Kahler of Lindsborg, KS; son Timothy Berggren and wife Robin of Lindsborg; daughters Lana Bergman and husband Paul of Arlington Heights, IL, Jan Scharping and husband Brian of Wichita, KS; stepdaughter Darla Mann and husband Tom of Haysville, KS; grandchildren Shane Berggren (Holly), Jacob Berggren (Jay Pomeroy), April Faulkner (Matthew), Harry Bergman, Heather Baldwin (Cody), Megan Jenkins (Forrest), Eric Scharping, Nicholas Scharping (Samantha Kelley), and Bailey Mann; 10 great-grandchildren; brother Raymond Hite and sisters Patricia Haguewood, Virginia Payne and Linda Story; plus many nieces, nephews and friends.

Lavina Ruth Goering Havens, 90, McPherson, KS, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, surrounded by family at Salina Regional Health Center.

She was born October 30, 1934, in Goessel, KS, the daughter of Peter P. and Marie (Ratzlaff) Penner.&nbsp; She graduated from Inman High School.&nbsp; On March 1, 1957, Lavina was united in marriage to Forrest Goering.&nbsp; He died November 26, 1996.&nbsp; She later married Austin L. Havens on March 7, 2015, in McPherson, KS.&nbsp; He died November 30, 2022.

Lavina was a homemaker and was a housekeeper at the Red Coach Inn.&nbsp; She was a member of New Hope Evangelical Church, McPherson.&nbsp; She enjoyed quilting with The Mission Society at Hopefield Mennonite Church.&nbsp; Spending time with family, reading, sewing, going to western Kansas to cut wheat, making German Faspa and peppernuts during the holidays, and reading the Christmas Story and Luke 2 were also among her favorite activities.&nbsp; Most importantly, Lavina wanted all her children and grandchildren to know, trust, and love the Lord

Delores M. Copeland, 100, passed away February 20, 2025. &nbsp;Delores was born August 29, 1924, in Clay Center, Kansas to Herbert and Esther (Hofmann) Hildenbrand. She graduated from Clay Center High School. On March 1, 1945, Delores and Donald Copeland were united in marriage. In 1969, they moved from Clay Center to Wichita, Kansas. They celebrated 66 years together before Don’s passing on February 19, 2011. Delores volunteered at Senior Services in the Meals on Wheels program for 30 plus years. She also worked for USD259 at McLean Elementary school as a lunch aid and playground supervisor for 21 years, retiring after the last grandchild finished elementary school. Delores loved to watch sports, especially basketball and baseball/softball. She attended many of her kids’ and grandkids’ ball games and enjoyed watching K-State basketball and Royals baseball. In fact, Delores celebrated her 90th birthday at a Royals game. &nbsp;

Delores was preceded in death by her parents, sister Marian Williams, and husband Don. &nbsp;Delores is survived by children Sandra (Gregg) Russell, Steve (Genie) Copeland and Sam (Merri) Copeland of Wichita. Gary Evan Cassel, 92, passed away peacefully on February 18, with a smile on his face and holding his sweetheart’s hand. A devoted husband, a loving father, and an adoring grandfather, he left a legacy of love, laughter, and a life well-lived.

Born in 1932 in Beverly Kansas, Gary was a man of boundless energy and enthusiasm. An athlete through and through. While in college, he was chosen as a member of the NAIA All-American Basketball team and held numerous basketball records, including career points at Kansas Wesleyan for over 70 years. He was an avid runner and ran countless races, even well into his 80’s. He was always on the move. Whether he was running, shooting hoops, or showing off his lightning-fast reflexes in a game of table tennis, he played with a joy that was infectious. He loved being outside, soaking up the sunshine-though he also had a knack for attracting overly aggressive geese, a battle he fought (and mostly won) more times than he cared to admit.

He had a quiet but sharp sense of humor, the kind that snuck up on you and left you laughing long after the moment had passed. He also had a habit of leaving tiny notes everywhere, written in the smallest script imaginable. Sometimes they were reminders, sometimes they were jokes, and sometimes they were just little messages of love-proof that he was always thinking of those he cared about.

Gary made friends wherever he went. Whether it was a student he met during his time working in a middle school cafeteria, a neighbor, a stranger in line at the store, or someone he met on one of his many outdoor adventures, he had a way of making people both young and old feel seen, valued, and appreciated. To know him was to have a friend for life. He never met a stranger, and he never missed an opportunity to lend a hand, share a laugh, or make someone feel special. But his greatest joy was his family. His love for them was boundless, and nothing made him happier than being surrounded by his children and grandchildren, whom he adored beyond measure. His warmth, kindness, and playful spirit will live on in their hearts forever.

Gary is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, Vivian Cassel; his daughters, Rochelle Wentz (Mike) and Lisa Naylor (Roger), his cherished grandchildren, Aubrey Wiechman, Amanda Branfort, Kylee Kolzow, Sam Reals, Hope Witt, Ben Wentz. He is also survived by numerous great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him great joy. He is reunited in peace with his parents, Ernest and Una Cassel, his sister, Ruth Cassel, and his father and mother-in-law, William and Esther Becker.

There will be a visitation with family on Thursday, February 27th from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Ryan Mortuary. The celebration of his incredible life will be held on Friday, February 28th at the Salina First United Methodist Church at 10 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donating to Crossroads Marathon, a local organization that beautifully reflects Gary’s passion for running and his dedication to supporting children or to the Salina First United Methodist Church.&nbsp;

Donald Mutschler, 74, of Minneapolis, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, February 19th, 2025 with family by his side.

Don was born in Burlington, Kansas on February 5, 1951, a son of Leona Hattie (Anschutz) and Richard Herbert Mutschler.

He achieved Eagle Scout Honors and the skills he learned in scouting, remained his core values throughout his life. God, Country, Love, and Dedication were words he lived by. Don had strong beliefs and faith in God was central to who he was.

Working was a driving force in his life. He was a man of many hobbies and interests, including small carpentry work to building houses. He worked for Forgey-Allen, George Place, and retired from KDOT after decades as a land surveyor and bridge inspector.

Once his grandchildren came along, they were his focus. He was always incredibly involved in their daily lives, attended every event they were involved in, and could always be found at the table for Sunday suppers.

Survivors include his daughter, Megan Chase (Andy), of Miltonvale, Kansas; grandchildren, Kye Chase and Kyndra Chase.

Don is also survived by his sister, Elaine Riedl, of Brighton, Colorado; two brothers, Paul Mutschler, of Delphos, Kansas, Harold Mutschler (Glenda), of Gypsum, Kansas.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Leona and Richard Mutschler; brother-in-law, Jon Riedl; and sister-in-law, Gwen Mutschler.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, March 1st at Carlson - Geisendorf Funeral Home, Salina, with Pastor Dennis Kootz officiating.

James “Jim” Robert Steele, 60, of Salina, Kansas passed away at home on February 19, 2025 after a courageous battle with esophageal cancer. He was a devoted husband, proud father, and loving grandfather, whose life was a testament to the strength of his love for his family.

Jim was born to Patricia Hatfield and Robert Steele on August 29, 1964 in Salina, Kansas as the youngest of four siblings. He spent his youth exploring outdoors, having adventures around Salina, and playing pick-up games with his friends.&nbsp; Jim has always had a heart for sports, and excelled as a member on the Salina Central football team.

On May 5, 1990, Jim married the love of his life, Karen. Together, they built a nurturing home in Salina, where they raised three wonderful children: Jessica, Emily, and Jordan. Jim took immense pride in his family. His constant presence and unwavering support for his children was continually felt.&nbsp; Cheering them on at their sporting events, supporting their extracurricular activities, and celebrating their milestones, he was a steady source of encouragement. One of Jim’s greatest joys was being a doting grandpa to Lainey and Madden, and he was excitedly anticipating the arrival of another grandson due in May.

Jim was known for his sarcastic sense of humor and his avid love for sports, especially football.&nbsp; He could always be seen sporting K-State or Kansas City gear.&nbsp; Jim’s favorite time of the year was football season; he loved watching the Wildcats and Chiefs play.&nbsp; Some of his greatest memories shared with his family involve tailgating at Bill Snyder Family Stadium or gathering together to cheer on the Chiefs.

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Karen; daughter, Jessica Steele; daughter and son-in-law, Emily and Cole Hoover; son and daughter-in-law, Jordan and Amy Steele; grandchildren, Lainey, Madden, and Baby Boy Hoover; siblings, Shari (Norb) Schreiber, Lisa (Joe) Conway, and Craig (Amanda) Steele; as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews who all held a special place in his heart.

 </figure>James “Jim” Robert Steele, 60, of Salina, Kansas passed away at home on February 19, 2025 after a courageous battle with esophageal cancer. He was a devoted husband, proud father, and loving grandfather, whose life was a testament to the strength of his love for his family.Jim was born to Patricia Hatfield and Robert Steele on August 29, 1964 in Salina, Kansas as the youngest of four siblings. He spent his youth exploring outdoors, having adventures around Salina, and playing pick-up games with his friends.&nbsp; Jim has always had a heart for sports, and excelled as a member on the Salina Central football team.On May 5, 1990, Jim married the love of his life, Karen. Together, they built a nurturing home in Salina, where they raised three wonderful children: Jessica, Emily, and Jordan. Jim took immense pride in his family. His constant presence and unwavering support for his children was continually felt.&nbsp; Cheering them on at their sporting events, supporting their extracurricular activities, and celebrating their milestones, he was a steady source of encouragement. Kent Stewart Charlton, 64, passed away peacefully at his home in Salina on February 13, after a long battle with cancer.

Kent was born in Salina, KS, on June 23, 1960, to Jack and Dorothy Charlton. A lifelong resident, he took pride in being a hardworking and trustworthy individual. He was employed by Consolidated Printing for over 30 years until retiring in 2024 due to health reasons. He was known to take after his father as an avid collector of sports memorabilia and antiques.

Kent’s life was filled with love and laughter, and he made a lasting impression on everyone he met. He will be deeply missed by family and friends who knew him as a kind, caring, and fun-loving person. He is remembered as a devoted son, father, brother, and friend.

Kent was preceded in death by his parents and his infant daughter, Melissa.

He is survived by his beloved sister, Robin Vandegrift of Boise, ID; his cherished children, Michele Gardner (Josh), Justin Charlton, and Shane Charlton, all of Salina; and his four adored grandchildren: Kaylee, Savannah, Cameron, and Liliana, all of Salina. He also leaves behind his beloved canine companion, Sasha.

The family will not be holding a public service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Salina Food Bank to help those in need.

Irmgard M. Campbell Terrio, 87, died Friday, February 21, 2025, at the Salina Regional Health Center. She was born March 31, 1937, in Hannau Germany to Josef and Katherina (Blumohr) Fickinger.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Irmgard was a longtime and faithful member of the Holy Catholic Church and was the owner of the Family Café in Delphos for several years.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Bobby Dean Campbell and John Terrio; daughter, Mary Jo; brother, Wehner Fickinger; son-in-law, Gary Latham; and daughter-in-law, Emma Campbell.

Virginia “Jean” Bachand, age 75, of Concordia, Kansas, left this earthly life on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at the University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City, Kansas with her family by her side.

She was born on October 18, 1949, in Hays, Kansas to Marvin Rudolph &amp; Josephine Martina (Pfeifer) Wiesner.&nbsp;

Jean graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Salina, Kansas in 1967. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Fort Hays State University, Hays, Kansas.

She married Lonnie Bachand on August 16, 1969, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Concordia, Kansas.&nbsp;

Jean dedicated&nbsp;38 years of service to St. Joseph Hospital and Cloud County Health Center retiring in 2008.&nbsp;&nbsp;After retirement she enjoyed traveling and spending time with her treasured grandchildren.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was the most loving mom, grandma, wife, sister, aunt, and friend to all.

She was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and Concordia Rotary Club.&nbsp;&nbsp;She volunteered countless hours for St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary, Sailing for Success and numerous fund-raising projects throughout the community.

Jean is survived by her husband, Lonnie, Concordia; daughters, Nicci Noyce (David), Overland Park, KS; Crissi Roberts (Tony), Rogers, AR; her four beloved grandchildren, Sawyer and Signe Noyce, Jensen and Boden Roberts; siblings, Robert Wiesner (Dawn), Dallas, TX; Jerry Wiesner (Joan), Concordia, KS; Brian Wiesner (Linda), Concordia, KS; and Annie Bergmann (Dennis), Concordia, KS; sister-in-law, Kim Wiesner, Concordia, KS; brothers-in-law, Michael Hillman, Ft. Virginia “Jean” Bachand

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Garry Matthew Mullins on February 6, 2025, at the age of 70. He was born on April 20, 1954, in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Garry grew up on the multi-generational family farm near Paton, IA and graduated from Paton-Churdan High School in 1972.&nbsp; After High School, he attended Lincoln Tech in Des Moines, IA where he studied Diesel and Automotive Repair.&nbsp; Garry then started his career as Diesel Mechanic for Farmland Industries in Duncombe, IA.

In 1995, Garry moved to McPherson, Kansas—following a work promotion—and worked as a shop foreman for Farmland and eventually CHS Trucking until 2010.&nbsp; Garry's work ethic was unmatched, always going above and beyond in every task he undertook.&nbsp; Garry finished out his career with McPherson Concrete as a concrete truck driver until his full retirement in 2019.

Throughout his life, Garry became not only a diesel expert but also a trusted advisor to friends, family, and acquaintances.&nbsp; He loved being able to share his skills and could diagnose a problem from a single conversation.&nbsp; Garry found joy in helping others, whether it was through his expertise in diesel mechanics or his willingness to lend a hand to friends and family.

Garry had a zest for life, evident in his love for cars, motorcycles, cigarettes, rum, pull-tab lottery tickets, and smoked meats. He owned and modified many American muscle cars, Ford Trucks, and motorcycles during his life.&nbsp; &nbsp;Garry also embarked on several cross-country motorcycle trips including a memorable solo trip to the New England coast in 2008.&nbsp; He’d often spend weekends cooking a large meal, caring for his lawn, supporting the VFW or American Legion, and sleeping through much of a NASCAR race.

Garry is survived by his two sons, Brian (Dawn) Mullins of Cedar Rapids, IA and Tomas (Michelle) Mullins of Des Moines, IA; his daughter, Holly (Bob) Diener of Sheboygan, WI; his siblings, Peggy (Ray) Wilber of Carlisle, IA and Dave (Chris) Mullins of Ankeny, IA; as well as four grandchildren (Jayne, Cadence, Aisley, and Matthew). He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Floyd and Ora Mullins, his siblings, Donna Mullins, Larry Mullins, and Wayne Mullins, and his closest friend Anna Mann.

An informal celebration of life will be held on Sunday, February 23rd&nbsp;from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM&nbsp;at the VFW in McPherson, KS.&nbsp; A visitation will be held at Palmer &amp; Swank funeral home in Gowrie, IA at 10am on Tuesday, February 25th.&nbsp; The funeral service will begin at 11am followed by burial at the Dawson Township Cemetery west of Paton, IA.

Garry Matthew Mullins

&nbsp;Ronald Fetter, 81, passed away Monday, February 17, 2025. &nbsp;He was born July 3, 1943 to Claude and Doris (Simpson) Fetter in Larned, KS.

Ron graduated from Macksville High School in 1961 and proudly served in the US Marine Corps from 1964 to 1968. &nbsp;He met Barbara Conyers and they were married August 26, 1972 in Greensburg, KS. &nbsp;They settled in Salina where Ron worked for 37 years at Long McArthur Ford in the parts department.

Outside of work he played slow pitch softball and was a bowler. &nbsp;In his later years, Ron enjoyed golfing and made many friends at the course. &nbsp;He was always ready to work a crossword puzzle and was an avid KU, Kansas City Chiefs and KC Royals fan.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, brother, nephew, in-laws and brother-in-law. &nbsp;He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Barbara; sister, Peggy Tillett (Rick); sisters-in-law, Joan Fetter and Carladyne Conyers; and many loving nieces, nephews, and other family members.&nbsp;

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. with family receiving friends from 5-8 p.m. on Monday, February 24, 2025. &nbsp;Funeral services will take place at 1 p.m. Tuesday, February 25th all at Ryan Mortuary. &nbsp;Burial will follow in Gypsum Hill Cemetery, Salina.&nbsp;

 </figure>&nbsp;Ronald Fetter, 81, passed away Monday, February 17, 2025. &nbsp;He was born July 3, 1943 to Claude and Doris (Simpson) Fetter in Larned, KS.Ron graduated from Macksville High School in 1961 and proudly served in the US Marine Corps from 1964 to 1968. &nbsp;He met Barbara Conyers and they were married August 26, 1972 in Greensburg, KS. &nbsp;They settled in Salina where Ron worked for 37 years at Long McArthur Ford in the parts department.Outside of work he played slow pitch softball and was a bowler. &nbsp;In his later years, Ron enjoyed golfing and made many friends at the course. &nbsp;He was always ready to work a crossword puzzle and was an avid KU, Kansas City Chiefs and KC Royals fan.Ron was preceded in death by his parents, brother, nephew, in-laws and brother-in-law. &nbsp;He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Barbara; sister, Peggy Tillett (Rick); sisters-in-law, Joan Fetter and Carladyne Conyers; and many loving nieces, nephews, and other family members.&nbsp;Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. with family receiving friends from 5-8 p.m. on Monday, February 24, 2025. &nbsp;Funeral services will take place at 1 p.m. Tuesday, February 25th all at Ryan Mortuary. &nbsp;Burial will follow in Gypsum Hill Cemetery, Salina.&nbsp;Memorials to First Tee Salina or the Salina Emergency Aid Food Bank care of Ryan Mortuary.&nbsp;

Ronald Lee Green&nbsp;went to be with our Lord &amp; Savior, February 16, 2025. He was born, October 17, 1933 to Raymond M. &amp; Rita N. (Young) Green. He graduated from Salina High School in 1951 and proceeded on to Kansas Wesleyan University. He was united in marriage to Sue Willett on July 18, 1953. He was a loan officer at CIT. He than went to work for National Bank of America (later, UMB) as Executive Vice President.

Ron was very involved in the Chamber of Commerce. He was Ambassador of the year in 1984. He was Director from 1984 to 1986, Ambassador Chairman in 1986 and Internal Affairs Division Chairman in 1986.

He was a Trustee at St. John’s Military School from 1978 to 1984 and 1988-1994. He was made Honorary Colonel in Recognition of Outstanding Services above and beyond the call of duty, May 24, 1981.

He was active at First Presbyterian Church as a Deacon and Trustee among many other involvements. He was the church basketball coach for 11 award/trophy winning years and had a great love for sports. He was an avid, die hard fan of KU, the Royals and the Chiefs.

He was a very respected and well liked citizen of Salina. He was a family man and his wife, children, grandchildren &amp; great grandchildren were his greatest joys. He loved his dear friends very much.Out of his many accomplishments, a few of them were that he lead the origination of the annual Salina Tennis Invitational, organized and started the shuttles for the Smoky Hill River Festival and was actively involved with the Friends of the River Project.After he retired, "Antiquing" became Ron &amp; Sue’s new journey in life. They traveled and antiqued on their annual winter trips to Florida to join many close friends for fun in the sun.He was preceded in death by his wife, Sue, parents, Ray and Rita Green, sister, Joyce Green Pearson and brother in law, Willie Hilton.He is survived by daughters; Holly Bethe (Mark), Hope, KS, Cathy Green, Salina, Ronda Green, Salina; grandchildren, Sara Hunnicutt (Gordon), Christopher Bethe and McCabe Green. His great grandchildren are Riley, Molly and Wyatt Hunnicutt. He is also survived by a sister, Pat Hilton and brother in law, Bruce Pearson and many loved nieces and nephews.Visitation will be Sunday, February 23, 2025, from 4 until 8 pm at the Ryan Mortuary, Salina, The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 pm. Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm on Monday, February 24, 2025, at the First Presbyterian Church, Salina, followed by a brief reception in the church parlor. Burial will follow in the Roselawn Cemetery.Memorials are suggested to First Presbyterian Church or the Friends of the River Project.
