
Imogene Lois (Hahn) Beisel was born on April 4, 1930 to Ernest F. Hahn and Margaret Koel Bulick in Downs, KS. She was born in the house on W. Beal St in Downs, KS and lived there until she married. Imogene attended Downs Public School for 12 years and graduated in May 1948.
She married Raymond (Ray) M. Beisel on August 3, 1948 in Downs at the Methodist Parsonage. They had two children, Pamela and Steven.
Imogene worked at various jobs during her lifetime. During high school, she popped popcorn at the Lido Theatre on Main Street in Downs, KS. From 1961 to 1962 she attended Beauty School in Salina, KS earning her Kansas Cosmetologist License. She owned and operated “Jean’s Clip & Curl Beauty Shop," in her home in Downs, KS. In 1974, she and Ray moved to Concordia, KS where Ray began working for the Kansas Fish and Game Commission as a Kansas Water Patrolman and Game Warden. In Concordia she worked in the Cloud County Sheriff’s Office for three and a half years.
In 1978, Ray’s job took them to Oskaloosa, KS where he served the state of Kansas the on Perry Lake and surrounding area. In Jefferson County, she worked for the Kansas Social and Rehabilitation Services as a Home Care Worker for 19 years. Ray and Jean missed Downs and moved back to their hometown in 2007.
Imogene loved to crochet, play cards, and dance. She and Ray loved square dancing and round dancing. It brought them much pleasure and many wonderful friends over the 30 years they were involved. Another great joy was her family and she especially loved playing with and watching her grandchildren’s activities.
Imogene was a member of the Downs Methodist Church and actively sang in the choir and played in the bell choir. She was also an active member of various Down’s Methodist Church women’s groups.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray, (2017), her mother, father, and one brother, Raymond Bulick. Survivors include: daughter, Pamela Armbrister and (Bill, deceased); son, Steven Beisel and wife, Karol. Six grandchildren: Justin Armbrister, (Wendi); Ryan Armbrister, (Colleen); Shanna Suderman, (Ryan); Aaron Beisel; Julie Wyatt; and Elise Guyton, (Andy). She had eleven great-grandchildren, Shelby and J.R. Armbrister; Ethan, Sean and Sarah Armbrister; Luke and Levi Suderman; Aden Beisel; and Claire, Jessica and Addie Guyton.
Funeral services will be at Downs United Methodist Church, Saturday, January 10 at 10:30 a.m. A committal will follow at Downs Cemetery.
