Jacqueline "Jackie" J. Pennington, 81, of Salina, Kansas, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 15, 2025, surrounded by her loving children.

Jackie was born on August 3, 1943, in Davenport, Iowa, the daughter of Estella Vogt. On March 20, 1962, she married the love of her life, Dr. Richard Pennington. Together, they were blessed with four children, who were the center of her world.

A talented oil painter, Jackie created numerous beautiful works of art that her family cherishes. She was also an active member of the Salina Women’s Bowling Team, where she made lasting friendships and memories. She had lifelong friends whom she deeply cherished.

Jackie is survived by her children: Lisa (Jim) Passmore, Kelly (Bob) Lathrop, Todd (Shelly) Pennington, and Dr. Brett Pennington; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Richard Pennington; her mother, Estella Vogt; her siblings; and her daughter-in-law, Christy Pennington.

Jackie will be remembered for her devotion to her family, her artistic spirit, and the warmth she brought to everyone who knew her.

A celebration of Jackie’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at Sunrise Presbyterian Church, 825 E Beloit Ave, Salina, Kansas. Following the service, inurnment will take place at Gypsum Hill Cemetery.

Ernestine Frances (Ball) Morrison, 88, passed away on July 3, 2025. Ernestine was born in Arkansas City, KS on September 26, 1936, the only child of the late Anna (Gannon) Ball and Wilson Blair Ball. She graduated from Salina High School in 1954 and married Harold Morrison in 1956. They raised their two daughters, Kimberly and Teri Ann on the family farm north of Salina.

Through out her childhood and high school, she developed her talent as a dancer with lessons and theatre involvement. In 1960, she was cast in the Solid Gold Cadillac for the fledgling Salina Community Theatre. She continued to contribute her time and talents as an actress, chorographer, staging consultant and director for SCT over the next five decades. In addition to her theatre work, the family started showing Quarter horses in 1970. Harold and Ernestine then devoted their time to traveling throughout the country as Kim &amp; Teri pursued state and national titles. Ernestine became executive secretary of the Kansas Quarter Horse Association in 1997 and served as the editor and publisher of the KQHA monthly magazine until 2003. She was inducted into the KQHA Hall of Fame in 2007.

She is preceded in death by husband Harold in 2022. She is survived by her daughters;&nbsp; Kimberly (Fred) Norwood, New Cambria; Teri Ann (Michael) Johnson, Temple, TX; grandson, Brandon (Mandy) Norwood, Salina.

Visitation will be at 6 pm, Wednesday, July 9 at Ryan Mortuary, with a celebration of life on Thursday, July 10 at 1 pm also at Ryan Mortuary. Interment will be at Roselawn Cemetery. A casual gathering for memories and stories will follow at Blue Skye Brewery in downtown Salina.&nbsp;

William J. LaBarge, affectionately known as Billy or Bill, was born on June 27, 1943 to Louis and Mary LaBarge, in Portis, Kansas. He departed this life on June 29, 2025, leaving behind a legacy characterized by courage, intellect, and a deep love for knowledge.

Bill received his education in Gaylord, Kansas, where the foundations of his immense passion for history were laid. This dedication to learning followed him throughout his life, ultimately leading to the achievement of a master's degree in history from Fort Hays State University. His intellectual pursuits were woven into the fabric of his daily existence, as he was known to be an avid reader who delighted in immersing himself in the stories of the past.

In 1961, Bill bravely enlisted in the United States Navy, a decision that would shape much of his early adult life. Serving as a radio operator on the USS Oriskany (CVA 34) Aircraft Carrier during the tumultuous years of the Vietnam conflict, he exemplified valor and commitment to his country. For his extraordinary service, Bill was awarded the Purple Heart, a testament to his courage in the face of adversity.

After leaving the Navy in 1970, Bill returned to Downs, Kansas, where he continued to embrace life with the same passion he had demonstrated in his service and studies. His love for history remained a cornerstone of his identity, influencing the way he engaged with the world around him.

William LaBarge's life was a rich tapestry of experiences, driven by a commitment to learning and a determination to serve. He will be remembered for his dedication to his country, his thirst for knowledge, and the profound impact he had on those fortunate enough to know him. Jason Kiel Zerbe, 41, passed away Friday, June 27, 2025. He was born February 27, 1984, in Albuquerque, NM to Dary and Deborah (Willems) Zerbe. 

He always carried the beauty of New Mexico in his heart and considered it to be home. Jason served his country in the United States Army and was deployed during Operation Iraqi Freedom. He enjoyed skydiving, “gardening”, cooking, spending time with his nieces and nephews, and making tie-dye shirts for all family members. 

We will miss his endless philosophical discussions on endless topics. We will always toast his empty chair at the table whenever we gather as a family. 

Besides his parents, Jason is survived by his siblings, Nathan Zerbe, Jerod Zerbe, Hannah Bowles, and Blake Zerbe.

Sunday, July 6, 2025, Sharon Kaye (Stief) Mullins is finally home with her Savior, after a brief three-month battle with cancer.

She was born August 8, 1946 in East St. Louis, IL and was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis R. Mullins; parents, Robert and Irene Stief; parents-in law, Raymond and Alma Mullins; infant grandchild; brother, Robert Stief; and sisters, Carol Lee Lynch and Patsy Joyce Powell.&nbsp; Sharon had been a resident of Gypsum, Kansas since 1970 when her husband, Dennis, became pastor of Temple Church where they faithfully served the congregation for 50 years.

She is survived by her children, Aaron D. Mullins (Michelle), Eric D. Mullins (Andrea) and Denise K. Mullins; her 16 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren as well as her brother, Harold (JoEtta) Stief; and sister, Gerri (Geraldine Ann) Gibson.

Sharon worked as Demo Coordinator for Sams Club for 15 years and selflessly, humorously and joyfully served countless young lives in children's church and teaching music at Faith Christian School. She loved people and people loved her though she would promise you that she was a total introvert.

An extraordinary impression was made on all that she met as her quick wit, humility and kindness put everyone at ease.&nbsp; Her thoughts were consistently for others through her very last hours as she always sought to serve rather than to be served by others. Music, cooking, and her love for the Lord encompassed her life as she loved her family and others well by finding and showing God's hand in every aspect of life, cooking everyone's favorites and filling her home with singing and music.

A graveside service, officiated by Rex Howard, will be held Saturday, July 12, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at Temple Church, 9657 S. Amos Road, Gypsum, KS 67448.

Willis “Bill” Rutz, 72 formerly of Topeka and Hope passed away January 13, 2025 in Battle Ground, Washington. He was born December 14, 1952, the son of Willis and Carol Rutz. Willis served 4 years in the United States Marine Corp from 1974-1978.

Bradley L. Budden, 75, of Abilene, Kansas, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2025, in the company of loved ones.

Born on December 3, 1949, in Clay Center, Kansas, Brad was the son of Florence Fyfe and Lyman Budden. He grew up in the surrounding area, but it was in Abilene where he truly put down roots and made his home. A 1967 graduate of Abilene High School, Brad went on to serve his country in the National Guard during the Vietnam War era.

Brad began his professional life with KP&amp;L, but soon pivoted to a long tenured career with Southwestern Bell Telephone, where he worked as a lineman, splicer, and installation and repair technician. He continued this work through the transition to AT&amp;T, ultimately retiring after a long and dedicated career. Never one to sit still, Brad later worked for Horizon Farm &amp; Ranch Realty, continuing to lend his expertise and work ethic well into his later years.

Brad was known for his hard work, his ornery nature, a sarcastic sense of humor, and his deep love of horses and team roping. He shared his passion for horses with his children and his many roping partners across the decades. His breadth of knowledge and experience in equine husbandry was truly expansive, and should be the benchmark of dedication for all who have a passion. He was a genuine cowboy to the core, and none did it better. Though above all, he was fiercely devoted to his children—always their biggest supporter and advocate.

He is survived by his children (and their spouses): Rachelle Swearingen (Ray), Sara Meng (Justin), and Theodore Budden (Emily); his grandchildren: Samantha and Grant Swearingen, Claire, Claudia, and Caroline Meng, Benjamin and Rosie Budden; and one great-grandchild, Walker.

Brad also leaves behind two half-siblings, Kelly and Tim Budden; and many extended family members and friends who will remember him with love.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Florence Fyfe and Lyman Budden, as well as his brothers, Arden and Gailen Budden.

A memorial service will be held at Community Bible Church in Abilene at 10:30 AM on Saturday, July 12th. Burial will follow at Rose Meron Cemetery. Family will receive friends Friday evening from 5-7 P.M., at Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Brad’s memory to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation at CFF.org.

Rick Arroyo age 73 passed away on June 23, 2025, in Salina, Kansas. &nbsp; He was born February 1952 to Edith and Manuel Arroyo. Rick lived a life with a passion for education and a love for his family.

Rick’s professional life was marked by his years at Rema Bakeware Manufacturing Company, and his valuable contribution as a substitute teacher within USD305. A man of faith, Rick was a long-time member of the Ray Avenue Baptist Church.

An avid reader, Rick also enjoyed fishing and art.&nbsp; These hobbies provided him with much joy and relaxation, and they were a significant part of who he was.

Rick is survived by his wife, Linda; his son, Jacob; his siblings, Bill, Tony, Terri, Tammy, and Debbie; and his grandchildren, Liam and Katarina.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his mother Edith, father Manuel, daughter Misty, and brother Mark.

Contributions in Rick’s memory can be made to a local animal shelter or Ray Avenue Baptist Church, reflecting his love for animals and his commitment to his faith community.&nbsp;

Dee Noffsinger, 90 died July 6, 2025, in Clay Center, KS.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was born on May 18, 1935, in Downs, KS, the daughter of Edwin and Mable (Gier) Thaete.&nbsp;&nbsp;Dee attended business college in Colorado after graduating high school in Lebanon, KS.&nbsp;&nbsp;Dee married Clifford Noffsinger on August 15, 1959.&nbsp;&nbsp;She worked with her husband at Noffsinger Veterinary Hospital for many years.&nbsp;&nbsp;Dee was a Welcome Wagon hostess for over 50 years, greeting new arrivals to the Clay Center Community. Dee Noffsinger

Jerry L. Grant, age 76, of Topeka, Kansas went to be with his Lord on Monday, July 7, 2025, at the University of Kansas St. Francis Campus, Topeka, Kansas due to complications from diabetes, heart problems caused by agent orange exposure in Vietnam and kidney cancer. He was born on a farm near Hill City, Kansas November 4, 1948, to Ernest Wayne &amp; Della Mae (Forgue) Grant Hefner. Jerry was a 1966 graduate of Concordia High School and a 1972 graduate of Kansas Technical Institute (K-State Salina, K-State Polytechnic)

Jerry enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in January 1968 where he attended boot camp and mortar training in California, then transitioned to Vietnam where he was stationed from July 1968-August 1969 with the 1st&nbsp;Marine Division, 5th&nbsp;Marine Regiment, 3rd&nbsp;Battalion, H&amp;S Company near An Hoa, Vietnam. In that time, he rose to the rank of Corporal and was section leader in mortars. For his services he received the Presidential Unit Citation, Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon, Combat Action Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal W/1*, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with device, Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation, and the Rifle Sharpshooters Badge.

Jerry started his career with Southwestern Bell in Topeka in 1972 as an engineering assistant in the switching department, then he and his family moved to Parsons in 1975 where he took a job as an outside plant engineer until 1989, then the family moved to Wichita where he was an outside plant engineer until his retirement on September 11, 2001. After his retirement they moved to Topeka to be closer to family and where it was a better climate for gardening, which Jerry loved to do. In his younger days Jerry loved to hunt and fish with his family members and friends, and they had the best of times and where Jerry had very fond memories. Sad to say Jerry was a bookaholic and read anything he could get his hands on but especially loved Louis L’ Amour books for their life lessons.

During retirement Jerry spent thousands of hours researching his family genealogy. Another accomplishment he was extremely proud of was writing a book on gold mining and the gold rush which was called: Grant’s Mining Districts of the Western United States (Vol 1 &amp; 2) and having it in the Library of Congress.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 55 years Janet M. (Tieking) Grant (Married on November 22,1969) and his sons, Jason Grant of Shawnee and Aaron Grant of the home. His mother Della Hefner, brother Terry Grant, Concordia, brothers and sisters-in-law Pat Newell of Riley, Joan and Larry Perkins of Hays, Chris and Scott Ostermann of Abilene&nbsp;and many nieces and nephews.&nbsp;Others who predeceased him in death were his father Wayne Grant of Concordia, brother Eric Grant of Clay Center, Step-Father Bud Hefner, Grandparents Ernest P. Grant and Bessie M. (Pearce) Grant of Hill City, Elmer Forgue and Eva (Zimmer) Forgue of Concordia, brother-in-law Terry Newell, sister-in-law Monica Grant and his father and mother-in-law Joe and Irene (Labarge) Tieking of Concordia.

Visitation will be Thursday, July 10, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.&nbsp;&nbsp;The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. all at the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia. Jerry L. Grant

Diana K. Fraser, 80, Minneapolis, died Saturday, July 5, 2025, in Wichita. Di was born Diana K. Gaskill on July 23, 1944, in Beloit to Orville and Georgia (Wolf) Gaskill. 

Di and Gerald S. Plush were married August 29, 1960, and he preceded her in death on February 9, 2013. Di worked many jobs in Minneapolis including at Boogaart’s, Perry’s Liquor, City Pharmacy, and D&amp;G in downtown Minneapolis. Di was a hardworking lady who loved people and most importantly her family. Someone said, “She took care of people more than she took care of herself,” On April 26, 2014, she and Raymond Fraser were united in marriage in Minneapolis. 

Di was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Gary; brother, Al Gaskill; and son-in-law, Wayne Lott. 

Survivors are her husband, Ray Fraser; children, Kelly Lott, Gerry Plush (Sara), Francine Sylvain (Emmanuel) Jennifer Fraser (John Hudson), and Mark Fraser (Brenda); sister, Karen Gaskill; 12 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. 

The family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., Wednesday, July 9 at Wilson Family Funeral Home, 405 Argyle Ave., Minneapolis, KS 67467. Memorial services will be at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, July 10 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Minneapolis. Diana K. Fraser

Larry Eugene Nightingale of McPherson, KS left this earth to be with his Heavenly Father, surrounded by family and friends on July 7, 2025, at the age of 56. He was born in Newton, KS on December 3, 1968, to Gaylon and Linda Nightingale. Larry graduated from Drumright, Oklahoma in 1987. Larry was a family man whose life was dedicated to his family, faith and to those around him. He is preceded in death by his father Gaylon Nightingale and grandparents.

He leaves behind his beloved wife, Candee Williams Nightingale of 30 years; his three children, Nicole Settrini, Kelsey (Eric) Yungeberg, and Mayce (Chaz) Kantola; six grandchildren, Tucker Hancock, Alexis Taylor, Mercedez Taylor, Nova Settrini, Chevy Settrini, and Alexus Grant, and one soon to be great-grandson, Jasper Hancock, on the way. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and friends.

He loved riding his motorcycle with the Abate Club District 9, fishing with his dad, and watching Sunday football and his favorite college team, OU Sooners. He was loved by many and will be missed by all. He had a special place in his heart for each and every one of you.

The family would like to thank Larry’s health care providers, Savanah Farris, Brandi Heck, and Sabrina Sweeney-Badgett. They have been there, not only for Larry, but also the family in times of need and support.

Larry Eugene Nightingale

Khloe Marie Heim, age 14, entered the arms of Jesus on Thursday, July 3, 2025, at the Kanopolis Reservoir near Marquette, Kansas.

She was born on May 11, 2011, in McPherson, KS, the beloved daughter of Athena Shauntel Heim. Khloe was preparing to begin her freshman year at Moundridge High School.

Khloe was a bright and beautiful soul whose kindness touched everyone she met. She was always ready to lend a helping hand and gave the best hugs. Full of life and joy, Khloe loved to dance, run track, and spend time with her friends and family—whether going on outings or just relaxing at home.&nbsp; She was adventurous and enjoyed exploring and going to the park to hang out with friends.&nbsp;

Her love for her Savior, Jesus Christ, radiated through her words and actions. She was an active and enthusiastic member of her church community and was eagerly anticipating church camp later this month. She and her cousin, Nevaeh, had been planning to make it a special and unforgettable experience for Khloe’s little sister, Laila, who would be attending for the first time.

Khloe was also excited about learning to drive and was doing a great job with it. She also loved Stitch and motorcycles. She approached everything with joy, curiosity, and a loving heart. Khloe enjoyed bantering with her step-dad, Dan, and was truly the best daughter a mother could ask for. She’d never think twice before giving her shirt off her back to anyone who needed it just like her grandpa.

Khloe’s light shone brightly during her time on Earth, and her memory will live on in the hearts of all who loved her.

Survivors include her parents, Dan &amp; Athena Porter and siblings, Zachariah Heim and Laila Heim, all of the home; step-siblings, Marlena Curran-Komulainen (Zach) of Lawrence, KS, Nate Porter of Lawrence, KS, Thomas Porter of Hutchinson, KS, and Andrew Porter and Gavin Porter, both of Moundridge, KS; half-siblings, Elena Dillinger-Walker of Port Orchard, WA and William Mayhew; Nana, Patti Eagle of Galva, KS; and many extended relatives and friends.

Khloe Marie Heim

Marion Eugene Eustice, age 73, passed away surrounded by his loving son Jeremie and his family, daughter Melissa and her family on Tuesday, July 01, 2025, in Salina, Kansas. He was born in Concordia, Kansas on August 30, 1951, to Norman Lee &amp; Ona Mae Agnes (Teasley) Eustice. Shortly after birth Marion’s family relocated to California.&nbsp;

Marion graduated from Chula Vista High School, Chula Vista, CA class of 1969. After graduation Marion joined the Army and served from 1971-1974. Towards the end of his service, he was stationed at Ft. Riley in Kansas. Wanting to stay close to his family he decided to make Kansas his forever home.&nbsp;

Marion was a welder by trade for over 40 years. He loved river fishing, camping, and any kind of work or tinkering he could do with his hands.&nbsp;

He had a big personality that could often be cantankerous but when he loved he loved hard, even if he could not quite show you.&nbsp;

Marion was preceded in death by both parents, brothers Scott and Eric, sister Amy, sister-in-law Sandra Eustice, and daughter Stephanie.&nbsp;

After graduation Marion joined the Army and served from 1971-1974. Towards the end of his service, he was stationed at Ft. Riley in Kansas. Wanting to stay close to his family he decided to make Kansas his forever home.&nbsp;Marion was a welder by trade for over 40 years. Ralph D. Kearn, age 73, entered into rest on Friday, July 4, 2025, at the North Central Kansas Health Center, Concordia, Kansas.

He was born on August 21, 1951, in Concordia, Kansas to George W. and Hazel M. (Trowbridge) Kearn.

Ralph was a 1969 graduate of Concordia High School.

On January 9, 1971, he married Phyllis Ann Vignery in Concordia, Kansas.&nbsp;&nbsp;They were united in marriage for 51 years until her passing on August 7, 2022.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Ralph was a former head custodian for USD 333.

He was a past member of the Moose Lodge #1428 &amp; American Legion Post #76.

Ralph enjoyed going to the casinos.&nbsp;&nbsp;Most of all he loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Larry LaVerne Balaun, who departed this life on Thursday, June 26, 2025, at the age of 87, at Salina Regional Health Center in Salina, KS. Born on March 15, 1938, in Salina, Kansas to Harry and Alma Belle (Estep) Balaun. Larry was dedicated to his family and assisted others in the community through the program, Meals on Wheels.

He graduated from Salina High School in 1956 and then joined the United States Air Force. He later worked at Exline in Salina, KS.

On December 30, 1972, Larry married Marilyn Rose Hake, at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Salina, Kansas. They were married 52 years.

Larry is survived by his wife Marilyn Balaun and his children: Cheryl McCabria (Russ), Sheila Balaun, Dan Balaun and Dale Balaun, his sister-in-law Joyce Balaun, brother-in-law Don Wismar, sister-in-law Barbara Balaun, and four grandchildren: Cheyenne McCabria, Seonna McCabria, Sierra McCabria, and Stormi Balaun.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 3 siblings, Jack Balaun, David Balaun, Elaine Wismar and his son Dirk Balaun.

A Celebration of Larry’s Life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at Emmanuel Foursquare Church in Salina with Pastor Loren Houltberg officiating with a meal following the service.

Bernard Nelson Johnson (Bernie) was born on February 5, 1950, at Beloit, Ks. He passed away at his home in Smith Center, Ks on July 1, 2025.

Bernie was a true and faithful friend to all who knew him. The saying “He will give the shirt off his back,” that was Bernie!! He was a hard worker and he took pride in his work. He said “if you can’t do it right then don’t do it at all”. So many people are going to miss him. Bernie went into the Army shortly after high school and was a Vietnam Veteran. That service in Vietnam left an indelible mark on him. He was awarded so many medals and had shrapnel fragments in his body to prove it. Bernie worked in the salt mines after coming back from Vietnam then returned to Smith Center. He was employed at Peterson campers and the Lyon rock query, then he “retired” to being his own boss and doing yard work. To that he was dedicated and we just don’t know how those shoes will be filled. Bernie would tell you he had his true God on his side and he was taking care of him.

Preceding him in death were his parents Veron Johnson and Louise Carle, stepfather Ralph Carle, sister Cathy Jennings, brother Daniel Carle, brother-in-law Jerry Jennings, Dan Brown and Frank Baetz.

Left to cherish treasured memories are his son Shawn Crull and wife Honey, their four children Eliyana, Isiah, Abner and Adakai, That precious little family was Bernie’s pride and delight. He was planning a trip to Minatare, Ne. this July to spoil those grandkids some more.

He is also survived by his brother Garth (Colleen) Carle, and sisters Barbara Baetz, Irene (Chuck) Brocka, Esther Brown, Sandy (Don) Leach, and Kristy Lange, Nephews, Nieces, and almost as many friends as there are stars in the sky.

Kristy was born on May 20, 1980 to Thomas and Linda Pickett. She was the youngest of their three girls. She attended Ellsworth High School and graduated in 1999 and went on to earn her Associated Degree in Business Administration.

On September 16, 2006 Kristy married Nathan Foster and they had two beautiful children together, Jacob Thomas and Katelyn Ann Foster.

Kristy had lived and worked in Salina, KS for many years before moving to Park City, Ks. Her last employment was with Southeast of Saline as a food service director. She then became a full time stay at home mom.

Kristy was a devoted mother and member of the First United Methodist Church. Her favorite past time was cheering on her kids at their sporting events and spending time with her family.

Kristy was survived by her husband, Nathan and children Jacob and Katelyn, her mother Linda Pickett, grandmother Vivian Cranston, sisters Tammy Pickett (Jerry) and Amy Hubnik (Pat), in-laws Jim and Darlene Foster, brothers-in-law Jeremy (Tara) and Paul (Kary) Foster and 6 nieces and 3 nephews.

Kristy was proceeded in death by her grandparents Thomas and Beatrice Pickett and Donald Cranston, and her father Thomas Pickett Jr.

A memorial will be held for her at the First United Methodist Church at 122 N 8th St in Salina, Ks at 11:00 A.M. on July 19, 2025.

Kristy Ann Foster (Pickett)

Wayne Keith Bowles was born on September 1, 1952, and left this world on July 2, 2025. Wayne, a lifelong resident of Mitchell and Osborne Counties was a businessman, entrepreneur, and family focused man who provided Automotive, Fuel, and Propane needs in the area for over 50 years. As a father and grandfather he was one for the books. His love and devotion to his children and grandchildren is difficult to express and even more difficult to match. He spent most of his free time riding his motorcycles and volunteering to babysit the grandkids - welcoming each and every new addition with joy. To Wayne - the more kids the merrier - never hesitating, even when faced with 9 kids under 9 years old including an infant. He loved his grandchildren with his whole heart and it showed. Wayne took his responsibilities further than just his family, supporting many of the local residents, farmers, and businesses as a partner and friend, being a fundamental pillar of those communities. He was a true community player and was always available to help when needed. He was an avid supporter of the local schools, councils, and non-profits that his children and grandchildren were involved in and was always ready for a new ‘interesting’ or ‘different’ adventure of food and road trips on his motorcycle.

His family, friends, and community will be forever changed by his passing.

Wayne Keith Bowles

Lisa Joy Voeltz, age 64, left this earth to enter her eternal rest on November 20, 2024 while home in Abilene, Kansas.

She was born to Ernald and Sally Voeltz on November 24, 1959, the youngest of three children. Lisa is survived by her sister, Christal of Lebanon, Missouri, nephews Dustin Voeltz, Lincoln, Jordan Voeltz, Ellsworth, nieces Betsy Fadness, Lebanon, Mallory Bailey, Los Angeles, and several great nephews and nieces.

During her lifetime she had companionship and love for 3 fur babies which she called her kids. Each one in turn received much love and attention.

Lisa was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Russell Voeltz, Lincoln.

She graduated from Ellsworth High School. Lisa went to college pursuing a career in medical laboratory technology. After receiving her degree and accreditation, Lisa was employed in several hospitals and clinics over the years.

Hobbies and enjoyable activities for Lisa included gardening, counted cross stitch embroidery, antiquing, playing cards and reading. Lisa will be missed by her family and church, Trinity Lutheran Church of Salina, Kansas.

A memorial service will be held at Trinity in Salina on Saturday, August 23,2025 at 2pm.

Lisa Joy Voeltz

Jean Evelyn Sutton, 90, passed away Saturday, June 28, 2025 at Bryan West Hospital of Lincoln, NE while in hospice care. Diagnosed with sepsis, Jean died peacefully with family by her side. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Wilma (Keith) Ellis; husband, Harold Sutton; infant sister, Carolee Ann; grandsons, Jonathan and Nathan Sutton (infant); and great grandson, Forrest Sutton (infant).

She leaves her daughter, Kimberly; son, Kent (Diana) and brother, Raymond Ellis (Carollyn); 4 grandsons: Taylor (Julie), Clayton (Chelsea), Blake (Erin) and Logan; 3 granddaughters: Samantha Orrick (David), Alyssa Stutzman (Jordan) and Emma Ray (Christian); 14 great grandsons; and 8 great granddaughters. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, brother-in-law’s, sister-in-law’s, cousins and dear friends.

Jean was born in Salina, Kansas on January 4, 1935, and lived near her father’s family homesteaded (Gypsum) and her mother taught rural school. She was an excellent student and applied what she learned. She excelled at free hand pencil drawings, sketching and hand printing posters. She also learned to mend clothing and make alterations. After marriage, Jean’s home sewing projects expanded to include matching upper garments for the family and custom fit blouses and prom dresses. Jean also enjoyed playing clarinet in the band, and cheerleading for Gypsum Pirates sports teams. She graduated class Salutatorian (1953 Gypsum High School.)

At an early age Jean was introduced to the Christian faith through her mother (and grandmother.) After high school, while living in Sterling, KS, at the age of 18 she followed the Lord in Baptism at the local Missionary Church there. Then in 1955 on June 26, she married her high school sweetheart, Harold Sutton, and started a family as they moved to various locations in KS, including Wichita for 5 years, before they returned to Gypsum in 1970.

In the years that followed, she emphasized the importance of faith in home life, daily prayer and scripture reading. Jean was active for many years in the Gypsum First Baptist Church. She enjoyed helping with Vacation Bible School during summer. The daily, weeklong program was well attended by many school age children in the Gypsum area. She designed poster sized charts that reinforced the Bible lessons with singing.&nbsp; Jean also ministered among women through encouragement and prayer. Her heart was to share the good news of salvation by faith in Jesus Christ to any who would listen. Friends and family visiting her home were welcomed with this good news, hospitality and prayer.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

No matter where she lived, she showed hospitality to new acquaintances. Her journal entries give testimony to the many that she prayed for and the prayers answered. These journal entries over the years fill many notebooks, the latest of which she kept near her well-worn bible. Her cards and letters exchanged for every occasion would include passages of scriptures and hymns which she held dear, seldom missing an opportunity to share.

In 2019, Jean moved to Nebraska to be near her family. There she enjoyed frequent drop-in visits and especially holidays and birthday celebrations where she traveled to family homes for food and fellowship. During her time in the hospital, she enjoyed seeing family and listening to scripture reading and familiar hymns. Although she was not feeling well she would manage to share a smile or an “amen.” She said if the Lord were to come take her home, she was ready to go. We are thankful to the Lord for his comfort and assurance that we will see her again.

“In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump; for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.” 1 Cor 15:52&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, July 11, at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N 8th St, Salina, KS 67401, with family present from 6-8. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 12, at First Baptist Church of Gypsum, with burial to follow at Gypsum Valley Cemetery.

Jean Evelyn Sutton

Connie Jean (Anschutz) Dickinson, 67, passed away Saturday, June 28, 2025 in Hutchinson, KS. She was born December 22, 1957 in Ellsworth, KS to Dale and Mabel (Choitz) Anschutz. Connie married Will E. Dickinson, Jr. in Ellsworth on November 7, 1981 and their union was soon after blessed with a daughter, Tiffany. She was a beautician for over 39 years and worked at the hospital as a dietician. Connie was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Ellsworth and very active in the church serving as a mid-week and Sunday school teacher, youth sponsor for eight years, and other areas as needed.

Connie is survived by her daughter Tiffany K. Harders (Daniel) of Holyrood, KS; siblings, Lois Wenz (Gilbert) of Holyrood, Alan Anschutz (Kim) of Bella Vista, AR, and Gale Anschutz (Lisa) of Rose Hill, KS; as well as five nieces, one nephew, and ten great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dale and Mabel and her husband Will of 39 years. Connie was a strong Christian woman and it showed through in her many walks in life.

Visitation: 1-8 p.m., Wednesday, July 2, 2025 at Parsons Funeral Home, Ellsworth with family present 6-8 p.m.

Funeral service: 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 3, 2025 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Ellsworth with burial following at Ellsworth Memorial Cemetery.
