
Lonnie Stephen Cathey, 74 of Abilene passed away December 5, 2025 at Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan.
He was born June 9, 1951 in McAlester, Oklahoma the son of Bernie and Loraine (Butler) Cathey. In 1975 Steve joined the United States Army, serving 4 years.
He was united in marriage to Patricia Jean in November 3, 1978 in Abilene. Steve worked for the Abilene Police Department for 29 years, earning the rank of Captain, where he was known by many as Captain Cathey. He was currently working as a guard at the Eisenhower Museum. Steve is survived by his wife, Pat of the home. Three sons: Benjamin Michael Cathey and wife Fuyan; Lonnie Stephen JR Cathey and wife Tish and Robert Joseph (Cox) Cathey. Grandchildren: Arden, Arissa, Michael Zane, Daniel, Matthew, Lauren and husband Rory Startzman and Kelsey and husband Billy Needham. Great-Grandchildren: Madelyn, Harlow, Khloe and Mason. Two brothers: Mark Cathey and wife Jackie and Michael W. Cathey and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Brenda Barlow.
The family has chosen cremation.
A Memorial Service will be 10:30 A.M., Friday, December 12, 2025 at Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given to the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan or New Trail Fellowship Church.
