Lela Blochlinger, 94, Minneapolis, passed away Sunday, October 9, 2022, at the Ottawa County Health Center, Minneapolis. Lela was born July 27, 1928, in Aurora to Caliste and Evon (DeMars) Istas.

She was a graduate of Aurora High School and on December 30, 1946, she was united in marriage with Paul J. Blochlinger. They moved to Minneapolis in 1962. Lela worked various jobs throughout her life, but she was known for her excellent seamstress work that she did for many years.

Lela was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Catholic of Council Women, American Legion, and she was a lifetime member of V.F.W. Auxiliary #3201.

She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings Bernard, Medore, Norine, and John; husband Paul; and son Randal.

Survivors are her children Gene, Judy, Debbie, Kevin, and Kelly; 13 grandchildren; and multiple great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, October 13 at Wilson Family Funeral Home, Minneapolis, where the family will greet friends from 6:00 to 8:00. A rosary will be prayed at 10:30 a.m., Friday, October 14 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Minneapolis, with Mass of Christian Burial following at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.

James Francis Jarvis&nbsp;- beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, and friend - passed away in his sleep in Salina, Kansas on Wednesday, October 5th, 2022. He is preceded by: his parents, his wife Kay, his daughter Lynn, and his grandson Jake. He is survived by: his son Doug, his grandchildren Ashley, James (Alicia), and Alexis, five great grandchildren, and Dr. Rafael de’Sa.

Jim was born to W. K. and Frances Jarvis in Salina, Kansas on February 12th, 1936. He graduated from Salina High in 1954 before attending Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina, where he met his wife Kay (Douglass) Jarvis, and graduated in 1979 after a lengthy break.

Jim served 23 with the Kansas National Guard retiring as a Major, had a 45 year career operating Jarvis Tox-Eol Termite Service, and a 55 year career as a dedicated Landlord.

Jim and Kay married on September 7th, 1958 and celebrated 61 wonderful years together. They welcomed their first child, Lynn, in December of 1960, and their son Doug, in December of 1962. Jim was a lifetime resident of Salina, Kansas, and cradle to the grave at the First United Methodist Church.

Jim enjoyed working, volunteering, watching sports, outdoorsmanship, spending time with family, and most of all, because he never met a stranger, sharing a joke or a story with anyone who would listen.

Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, October 20th, at Ryan Mortuary, Salina.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, October 21st, at Salina First United Methodist Church, with graveside service immediately following in Roselawn Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to the Jarvis family for later distribution, in care of Ryan Mortuary, 137 North Eighth Street, Salina, KS, 67401.

James Francis Jarvis

Virginia Jean Glenn of League City, Texas passed away on October 10, 2022, at the age of 95.&nbsp; She is survived by her husband, Dean Glenn, 
with whom she shared 65 years of marriage, and daughters Sharon (Rob) 
Kain of Salt Lake City, UT and Susan (Craig) Kersting of Sugar Land, Tx.
 and grandchildren Katherine Kain, Jeffrey Kain, Cameron Kersting, 
Lauren Kersting and several nieces.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, her son Steven, and her sister Marian Larson.

Born in Courtland, Kansas, to Howard and Edna Barber on July 15, 1927,&nbsp; she was raised on the family farm in Republic County Kansas. Jean 
graduated from Courtland High School in Courtland, Kansas.&nbsp; She attended
 Brown Mackie Business School and was a receptionist for Great Plains 
Insurance Company in Salina, Kansas.

Jean was a member of the Salina Methodist Church and there she met 
and married her husband, Dean. “Dean and Jean” moved to Manhattan, 
Kansas for Dean to attend Kansas State University and where Jean became a
 member of the “Dames Club” of K-State. Jean became a full-time 
homemaker when their son Steven was born.

Jean loved sewing, embroidery, quilting, ceramics and various other 
arts and crafts. She also loved plants and took special pride in her 
vegetable garden. Jean will be remembered as a loving and caring mother 
and grandmother.

Jean was a lifetime member of the Methodist Church and previously a 
member of the United Methodist Women (UMW) and Circle and is presently a
 member of the Friendswood United Methodist Church.

Visitation will be held at Crowder Funeral Home in League City 
October 13, 2022, at 1:30 pm, Funeral Service will follow at 2:30 pm. Jean 
will be laid to rest at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Houston Texas.

Memorials in honor of Jean may be made to the Houston Food Bank or the American Cancer Society.

Craig Alan Rahman, 68 years old, passed away unexpectedly on October 
5, 2022, surrounded by his family and close friends.&nbsp; Craig was born to 
Arnold and Betty Lou (Beardsley) Rahman on October 20, 1953, in Salina, 
Kansas.&nbsp; He moved to Helena, Montana, until his teenage years, then 
finished high school in Beach, North Dakota, where he excelled in math, 
skipped a grade, graduated early and served the United States Marine 
Corps from 1969-1971, during the Vietnam era.&nbsp; He met his bride Leita 
Loretta (Drake) Rahman and they had three boys, Craig Alan Jr, Curtis 
Ross, and Christian Andrew.&nbsp;

=Craig worked at Rocky Mountain Title as Title Officer in Casper 
for over 31 years, where his natural talent and ability to run title 
chains and discern land ownerships made him one of the top land men in 
Wyoming.&nbsp; Craig loved to ride motorcycles, loved classic rock and roll, 
and always supported his favorite team, the Green Bay Packers.&nbsp;

=Craig is survived by his sons Craig Alan Jr. and Curtis Ross, his 
mother Betty Lou (Beardsley) Rahman, his sisters Barbara, Susan, and 
Brenda and his Rocky Mountain Title family.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by
 his son Christian Andrew, his wife, Leita Rahman, and his father, 
Arnold Rahman.&nbsp; Craig was a dedicated husband and father.

Stephen V. Bond, age 79, passed away October 8 at Lawrence Memorial 
Hospital, Lawrence, KS.  He was born in Salina, KS on October 18, 1942, 
the only child of Paul &amp; Aileen (Patterson) Bond.

Steve
 graduated from Plainville High School in 1960, and then served in the 
Army from January 1964 to November 1964 when he received a medical 
discharge.  Two years later, he met and married Mary Hannah Page. They 
were partners in marriage for 56 years.

He earned a 
degree in Civil Engineering from University of Kansas in 1976.  After 
graduation Steve’s family moved to Great Bend where he went to work for 
Petroleum, Inc. for approximately 10 years.  Later, the family moved to 
Wichita where Steve was employed by the Kansas Corporation Commission.  
He retired in June 2014.

As a young man Steve liked to 
hunt and play golf and was an avid KU sports fan throughout his life.  
After retirement he enjoyed being outdoors puttering in the yard for 
hours on end.  Steve and Mary traveled often to visit their children and
 grandchildren attending birthdays, holidays, and sporting events.

He
 was preceded in death by his parents.  He is survived by his wife Mary 
(Page) Bond; son Matthew Bond (Shannon); son Cole Bond (Kasey); and 
daughter Andrea Graham (Brandon) and 12 grandchildren: Drew, Olivia, 
Luke, Joshua, Micah, Asher, Jackson, Rylie, Hudson, Ben, Charlie, &amp; 
Jake.

A Memorial Service is planned for Monday, Oct 17th,&nbsp; at 12:00 p.m. (noon) at Plumer- Overlease Funeral Home in Plainville,

Faith Ella Witt Todd Dickerson, age 95, went to her heavenly home on Sunday, October 9, 2022 at Clark Regional Medical Center.

Faith
 was born on April 25, 1927 in Irvine, Kentucky, to C.G. “Bill” and 
Bertha Sparks Witt.  After the death of her mother in 1928, she spent 
her early years in Irvine, under the care of her father and numerous 
family members.  She married John M. Todd in 1943 and moved to Bybee.  
After his passing in 1957, she went to work in the cafeteria at Waco 
Elementary School, where she worked until 1968. In 1968, Faith married 
James Dickerson, and moved to Salvisa where they operated Dickerson’s 
General Merchandise.  After retirement, they moved to Mt. Sterling where
 he passed in 1993 and she remained until her death.

Faith is 
survived by her daughter Donna NeSmith; Grandsons: Todd (&amp; Jennifer)
 NeSmith and Tommy Ford; Great-Grandchildren: Sara and Alex NeSmith; 
Nieces: Betty Ann Smith of Salina, Kansas, and Wilma Jo Newport, of 
Melbourne, Florida, and other extended family.

In addition to her 
parents and both husbands, Faith was preceded in death by her daughter 
Linda Ford, Son-In-Law Jim NeSmith, Sister Thelma Winburn, Stepdaughter 
Barbara Click, and Step-Grandchildren Michael Click and Sherry 
Sheperson.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00 AM 
Thursday, October 13, 2022, at Combs, Parsons &amp; Collins Funeral Home 
with Marjorie Lehman and Sara Webster officiating. Burial will follow in
 the Flatwoods Cemetery.

Donna was joyfully reunited with family and friends in heaven on July 31, 2022. Donna was born Sept 5, 1935 to Miles and Maggie Falkenstien near Chetopa, Kansas. She grew up in the beautiful rural farming area of southeast Kansas, graduating from Labette County High School and Pittsburg State University. 

While at the university she met James Ward, a medical student from Pittsburg, and they married in June of 1956. Together they had four daughters and an ever-changing menagerie of beloved pets. After completing military service in Tacoma, Washington, the family settled in Belleville in 1961 and spent many happy years there.

Outside of her family, education was Donna’s great passion. She couldn’t wait to start school at age four. She taught second grade in Leawood, KS for two years before staying home to care for her family. She later spent many years as a substitute teacher in the Republic County school system, and was the first director of the Belleville After School Program. She was so very proud of her daughters’ educational and professional achievements.

Donna was a member of the First United Methodist Church, PEO, Shakespeare, and several bridge clubs over the years. She reveled in every slam she bid and made, and her love of the game will be missed at the bridge table. She was an avid KU basketball fan, attending games as far away as Hawaii, Orlando and the Bahamas, and never missed them on TV. She enjoyed making travel memories with her family and friends, but thought there was no place better than her home in Kansas.

Donna was welcomed to heaven by her husband, oldest daughter Cindy, son-in-law Jay Skaggs, her parents and brother Richard, and so many good friends. 

She will be dearly missed by daughters Cathy Ward of Lincoln, NE, Caryl and Dave Geschwind &nbsp;of Rochester, MN, Connie and Doug Hulst of Englewood, CO; as well as her seven grandchildren, Jennifer Skaggs, Clayton and Sarah Skaggs, Samantha and Travis Boyett, Kate, Cole and Meg Geschwind, Jack Hulst, and so many cherished friends and neighbors.

A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 22, 2022 at the First United Methodist Church, Belleville, KS.  The family will greet friends from 1 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Saturday prior to the services at the church. 

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Republic County Hospital, Meadowlark Hospice, American Cancer Society, or the Methodist Church in c/o the funeral home.

After completing military service in Tacoma, Washington, the family settled in Belleville in 1961 and spent many happy years there.Outside of her family, education was Donna’s great passion. She couldn’t wait to start school at age four. She taught second grade in Leawood, KS for two years before staying home to care for her family. She later spent many years as a substitute teacher in the Republic County school system, and was the first director of the Belleville After School Program. She was so very proud of her daughters’ educational and professional achievements.Donna was a member of the First United Methodist Church, PEO, Shakespeare, and several bridge clubs over the years. She reveled in every slam she bid and made, and her love of the game will be missed at the bridge table. She was an avid KU basketball fan, attending games as far away as Hawaii, Orlando and the Bahamas, and never missed them on TV. Bobby “Bob” Ray Parker, 83, of McPherson, KS and formerly of Phillipsburg, KS, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, October 7, 2022.&nbsp; He was born in Speed, KS on November 10, 1938, to Harley Eads Parker and Cora Mae (Thornton) Parker.&nbsp; 

Bob attended Speed Grade School through 8th&nbsp;grade but traveled to nearby Phillipsburg to attend Phillipsburg High School, graduating in 1956.&nbsp; Soon after graduation, Bob enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was stationed in San Diego serving aboard the USS Lowe.

Bob often commented that he had worked all his life, and this consistent work history did define much of his life.&nbsp; When he was a high school student, he worked for the D.G. Hansen Construction Company out of Logan, KS.&nbsp; Then, after his years of service in the Navy, Bob returned home to Phillipsburg and soon began a 42-year career with Farmland offices in Phillipsburg, Waco, TX, Amarillo, TX, and finally, in McPherson where he retired in 2003.&nbsp; During this time with Farmland in McPherson, Bob and Cindy provided a cleaning service for the offices there.&nbsp; At the same time, Bob owned and operated several contract mail routes in the central Kansas area.&nbsp;

Following his retirement from Farmland, Bob worked for a time at Walmart, when Walmart was hiring people to help with setting up the new Super Walmart.&nbsp; Bob also drove a newspaper delivery truck for the McPherson Sentinel when the Sentinel was still printing newspapers for area towns.&nbsp; He continued to work until declining health conditions finally forced him to retire from all work.&nbsp; He was then able to spend more time with his family, especially the grandchildren.&nbsp; He and Cindy took them on outings and attended many athletic events and activities.&nbsp; Bob enjoyed casino trips with his buddies, and loved cheering for the Jayhawks and Bullpups.

Bob is survived by his loving wife Cindy; two daughters, Loujena Cardenas and Kim Shields; two sons, Brad Parker and Brandon (Tiffany) Parker; grandchildren Lacie Shields, Clayton (Sheena) Herrick, Trista (Jason) McGuire, Derek Shields, Tia (Josh) Goscha, Brittany (Allen) Haas, Cruise Parker, Cole Parker, and Mack Parker; 13 great-grandchildren; three nephews and six nieces; brother-in-law Rev. Tim (Marcia) Pool; and sister-in-law Shelley Shirley.

Preceding Bob in death were his parents; his in-laws Dallas Pool and Esther Pool; his beloved sister Loretta and her husband Don Andrews; two sons-in-law Jim Shields and Leroy Cardenas; and brother-in-law Michael Clemens.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 24, 2022, at the Fairview Cemetery (Phillipsburg, KS) with Rev. LeRoy Herder officiating.&nbsp; Following the graveside service, the family extends an invitation for all to join them for a celebration of life at the First Christian Church in Phillipsburg for food and fellowship from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m..

David’s life began on February 16, 1951, in Strong City. He is the son of David Henry and Zetta Loretta (Hall) Ramsey. 

David graduated from Strong City High School in 1969 and continued his education at Flint Hills Technical School in Emporia. After Flint Hills, David went onto Emporia State University where he eventually earned his master’s degree in education. He also participated in ROTC at Kansas State. He taught industrial arts at several area schools including Cottonwood Falls, Great Bend, Andover, White City, Pleasanton, and Valley Falls.

He was united in marriage to Ardith Jacobs on November 22, 1969, at the Methodist Church in Cottonwood Falls. 

In addition to teaching, David was a rancher and cattleman. He loved his cattle and his horses that he treated like his pets. David served as an EMT on the Chase County ambulance. 

He was an active Mason, first in the Zeredatha Lodge # 80 in Cotton Wood Falls and then in the Advance Lodge #114 in Florence. He was a lifetime member of the Grand Lodge of Kansas and served as a delegate.

David is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ardith of Elmdale; children John David Ramsey of Elmdale, Christina Marie (Jim) Mies of Valley Center, and Kyle Lee (Jennifer) Ramsey of Valley Center; grandchildren Danielle Powell, Brandon Powell, Katherina Ramsey, and Nicholas Ramsey; great-grandchildren Aubrielle Mies and Landon Mies; his sister Loretta Hamilton of Omaha and nephew Gary Hamilton.

David passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, October 8, 2022.

 He is preceded in death by his parents. 

His family will gather with friends on Thursday, October 13, 2022, at 1 p.m. at the Elmdale Cemetery for his graveside service with Masonic rites.

Chris Edward Stephenson

Carole A. Thompson, the daughter of Wayne and Lucille (Grauerholtz) 
Schoeni, was born on May 19, 1942, in Smith Center, Kansas. She passed 
away on October 8, 2022, at the Brodstone Healthcare at Superior, 
Nebraska at the age of 80 years, 4 months, 19 days.

Carole was proud to be the Drum Majorette for two years at 
Kensington, Kansas High School for the Gold Bugs Marching Band. She 
spent 30 years as a hairdresser, after graduating from Salina, Kansas 
Beauty Academy, even owning her own shop at one time. She traveled to 
other towns to help beauticians in neighboring communities, when she was
 needed. Bowling was a favorite competitive sport for her and she 
qualified for and participated in state bowling for several years. She 
was involved in United Methodist Women group and served as President, 
for many years. She earned Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star 
Organization, something else she was very honored to achieve. 
Volunteering was so important to Carole and she chose to share her time 
at the Vestey Center, where she helped care for so many friends and 
community members, including her late Mother-in Law, Athelda.

Throughout so many happy years, her and Eldon enjoyed various 
card clubs, going fishing, and crop tours during the fall. Attending 
many of their Grand Daughter, nieces, nephews and family friends’ 
children’s’ events including proms, concerts, plays, sporting events and
 other school activities. In recent years, she became quite supportive 
of Eldon’s trap shoots. She waited all day long, just to meet him at the
 back door, to see how well he did. She accepted and guarded all of his 
trophies and was quick to share with anyone who wanted to see them. 
Throughout their wonderful years of marriage, Eldon was always with 
Carole and Carole was always with Eldon. They celebrated their 60th 
wedding anniversary and Carole’s 80th birthday in May of this year, with
 a big celebration, attended by so many friends, in Superior. A special 
past time for Carole and Eldon was making their annual Arizona trip, 
where they formed a community of friends, who they keep in touch with, 
on a regular basis, to this day.

One of Carole’s pride and joys was her self-named ‘Bird Feed’ 
where she baked up all of the chukar and pheasants Eldon and Jon or 
other friends had shot. The menu was always the same. Bird, rice, mashed
 potatoes, gravy, green beans with onion and bacon. She finished it off 
with her amazing chocolate sheet cake, which we still don’t have the 
secret ingredient for. Many of the people in this room have experienced 
that feast, which says everything about the type of woman she was.

One of the largest parts of the Thompson family life was the Jon
 Thompson Racing Team, car #75. Carole and Eldon never missed a race and
 she could be found sporting her team tee shirt, with her stop watch, 
pen and tiny note pad, taking it all in. The team won the Modified 
National Title in 2002, which was one of Carole’s grandest memories. Her
 Pallbearers today, were all a part of the pit crew, at some time, which
 is exactly what she would have wanted, since she considered each of 
them, one of her sons.

Carole was preceded in death by her parents Wayne and Lucille; sister Jan Zeigler and her in-laws Robert and Athelda.

She is survived by her husband Eldon; sons Chris and Jon (Joni 
Heiland) of Superior, Nebraska; siblings Rita (Lloyd) Kleinschmidt of 
Agra, Kansas; Cheryl Gibbs; Arden Schoeni of Arlington, Texas; 
granddaughter Jasmine (Tristan Stock) Thompson of Elm Creek, Nebraska; 
nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Lincolnville - Phillip G. Smith, 73, passed away October 7, 2022 at Newton Medical Center in Newton. &nbsp;He was born July 26, 1949 in Hillsboro to Percy and Lorene (Symes) Smith. &nbsp;

He married Janet Werner July 3, 1971 in Sisseton, South Dakota. &nbsp;She passed away in 2016. &nbsp;

He married Melissa Wood July 14, 2018 at the Marion Reservoir. 

Survivors include: wife Melissa Smith of Rural Lincolnville; sons Mark (Lori) Smith of Rural Lincolnville, Jesse (Ashton) Smith of Pilsen; daughters Amy (Brad) Pagenkopf of Lost Springs, Samantha Wood of Rural Lincolnville; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. &nbsp;

Life Sketch Taken from the Funeral Bulletin

Phillip G. Smith, 73, passed away October 7, 2022 at Newton Medical Center in Newton. He was born July 26, 1949 in Hillsboro to Percy and Lorene (Symes) Smith. Phil was baptized April 16, 1950 at the Antelope Methodist Church by Pastor Leslie Wiebe. 

He attended Bethel School east of Lincolnville until 6th grade when the school was closed. He then went to school in Lincolnville for 7th and 8th grades before attending high school at Centre, graduating with the class of 1967. 

While many of his friends went to college or worked, Phil’s calling led him to enlist in the military to join the airforce. He went to basic training in San Antonio, Texas and then air force tech school for aircraft maintenance turbo prop in Wichita Falls, TX before his tour of duty in Okinawa and Thailand for a year and a half. He spoke so fondly of the people and the culture there being so accepting of their service during the Vietnam War. After finishing his tour of duty he was stationed at Grand Forks Air Force Base in North Dakota with the 804th transportation squadron.

It was during this time that Phil met Janet Werner through some mutual friends.They were married July 3, 1971 in Sisseton, South Dakota. Phil was honorably discharged February 22, 1972 so he and Jan moved back to Kansas, living in Lincolnville when their daughter Amy was born on their second wedding anniversary. In 1975, Phil and Jan moved out to the farm so Phil could be closer to help with farming, hogs, and cattle with Percy and Lorene, when Mark was born in June of that year. Five years later, Jesse was born. 

Phil worked various jobs over the years including AMPI in Hillsboro, Donahue Manufacturing in Durham, and worked as a roughneck for Slusser oil drilling company and on the gas drilling rigs and running gas wells for Ourslers. With Phil’s love of cattle and ranching, he also started backgrounding cattle along with tending his own herd. Circle S Manufacturing was born out of Phil’s talent for metalworking and welding. Many of Phil’s hydraulic squeeze chutes can be seen in operation today across the tri-county area and beyond.

In spite of Phil’s ornery nature, he proudly cared for Jan in their home after her dementia made it necessary for her to have nearly constant care. When Jan moved to the nursing home, Phil was dedicated to seeing her daily, spending time with her and remaining true and loving. Little did anyone know that path would lead him to the next love of his life, Melissa Wood. Melissa lovingly cared for Jan as she got to know Phil. Jan passed away in 2016. Phil and Melissa then began to build their life together, blending their family and giving Phil another daughter, Samantha Wood and two more grandchildren. He married Melissa July 14, 2018 at the Marion Reservoir.

Phil loved his grandchildren, working alongside Braden and Garhett, teaching them to weld at the shop, eventually bringing in Pat Combs who has worked with Phil the past 10 years and has kept Circle S Manufacturing in operation during Phil’s illness and will continue operation in Phil’s honor. Phil’s grandson Daylyn is now learning to weld and work with Pat in the shop. 

Family was important to Phil and he enjoyed having gatherings, especially fish frys, which included his granddaughters Elizabeth, Sydney, and Graclyn. A large family garden had also been important to Phil. 

Another bond Phil was so proud of was sharing duties through the American Legion in Lincolnville with Braden after Braden joined the National Guard. Phil was an active member of the Legion for 18 years. Phil was also a member of the NRA, enjoyed hunting and fishing which prompted his other business, Woodland Game Bird that he and Melissa have grown into a thriving business raising quail and a variety of other birds and working his bird dogs.

Phil leaves behind family and friends who are filled with memories and stories that Phil loved to tell, even sharing stories and orneriness on his last day of life.

Phil was baptized April 16, 1950 at the Antelope Methodist Church by Pastor Leslie Wiebe. He attended Bethel School east of Lincolnville until 6th grade when the school was closed. He then went to school in Lincolnville for 7th and 8th grades before attending high school at Centre, graduating with the class of 1967. While many of his friends went to college or worked, Phil’s calling led him to enlist in the military to join the airforce. He went to basic training in San Antonio, Texas and then air force tech school for aircraft maintenance turbo prop in Wichita Falls, TX before his tour of duty in Okinawa and Thailand for a year and a half. He spoke so fondly of the people and the culture there being so accepting of their service during the Vietnam War. After finishing his tour of duty he was stationed at Grand Forks Air Force Base in North Dakota with the 804th transportation squadron.It was during this time that Phil met Janet Werner through some mutual friends.They were married July 3, 1971 in Sisseton, South Dakota. Phil was honorably discharged February 22, 1972 so he and Jan moved back to Kansas, living in Lincolnville when their daughter Amy was born on their second wedding anniversary. In 1975, Phil and Jan moved out to the farm so Phil could be closer to help with farming, hogs, and cattle with Percy and Lorene, when Mark was born in June of that year. Five years later, Jesse was born. Phil worked various jobs over the years including AMPI in Hillsboro, Donahue Manufacturing in Durham, and worked as a roughneck for Slusser oil drilling company and on the gas drilling rigs and running gas wells for Ourslers. With Phil’s love of cattle and ranching, he also started backgrounding cattle along with tending his own herd. Circle S Manufacturing was born out of Phil’s talent for metalworking and welding. Many of Phil’s hydraulic squeeze chutes can be seen in operation today across the tri-county area and beyond.In spite of Phil’s ornery nature, he proudly cared for Jan in their home after her dementia made it necessary for her to have nearly constant care. When Jan moved to the nursing home, Phil was dedicated to seeing her daily, spending time with her and remaining true and loving. Little did anyone know that path would lead him to the next love of his life, Melissa Wood. Melissa lovingly cared for Jan as she got to know Phil. Jan passed away in 2016. Phil and Melissa then began to build their life together, blending their family and giving Phil another daughter, Samantha Wood and two more grandchildren. He married Melissa July 14, 2018 at the Marion Reservoir.Phil loved his grandchildren, working alongside Braden and Garhett, teaching them to weld at the shop, eventually bringing in Pat Combs who has worked with Phil the past 10 years and has kept Circle S Manufacturing in operation during Phil’s illness and will continue operation in Phil’s honor. Phil’s grandson Daylyn is now learning to weld and work with Pat in the shop. Family was important to Phil and he enjoyed having gatherings, especially fish frys, which included his granddaughters Elizabeth, Sydney, and Graclyn. A large family garden had also been important to Phil. Another bond Phil was so proud of was sharing duties through the American Legion in Lincolnville with Braden after Braden joined the National Guard. Phil was an active member of the Legion for 18 years. Phil was also a member of the NRA, enjoyed hunting and fishing which prompted his other business, Woodland Game Bird that he and Melissa have grown into a thriving business raising quail and a variety of other birds and working his bird dogs.Phil leaves behind family and friends who are filled with memories and stories that Phil loved to tell, even sharing stories and orneriness on his last day of life. On Thursday October 6, 2022, Karen Melita Kliewer of rural Canton, Kansas, a beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away. She was 72 years old.

She was born to Jack and Lila (Dodge) Hatfield in Kingman, Kansas on September 19, 1950. 

After graduating from Kingman High School she attended Salt City Business College in Hutchinson, majoring in business administration. There she met Don Kliewer of Canton. The two were married in Canton on October 24, 1969. The couple was blessed with two sons, Danny and Jack.

As the boys grew up, all of the neighborhood boys simply called her "Mom." Karen enjoyed cheering on her boys during football games; she was always their biggest fan and loudest supporter in the stands.

She was employed by the McPherson County Farm Service Agency for 15 years and the Hillsboro Co-Op for 10 years. Karen was a member of the Canton Community Church.

Survivors include her husband Don of the home; her two sons, Danny of Wichita and Jack and his wife Sandy of Moundridge; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a host of other relatives and friends. 

A brother, Harlan Hatfield preceded her in death.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 12, 2022 at the Canton Township Cemetery. Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 11, 2022 at Olson's Mortuary, Canton.

A memorial has been established with Good Shepherd Hospice, in care of the mortuary.

Bernice Helen Schletzbaum (Heidebrecht) was born on April 4, 1928 to Pete and Helen (Doerksen) Heidebrecht at Lake Inman, Kansas. 

Bernice lived in McPherson County all her life and graduated from McPherson High School in 1946. 

On October 17, 1959 she married Arnold L. Schletzbaum at the McPherson Church of the Brethren. Bernice and Arnold attended Monitor Church of the Brethren in Conway, Kansas for many years. 

Bernice worked as an underwriting assistant at Farmer’s Alliance Insurance company for 44 years. 

Bernice and Arnold also farmed in McPherson County. She was a member of the Kansas Society of Insurance Women, National Association of Insurance Women, and a charter member of the Insurance Women of North Central Kansas. 

Bernice enjoyed reading, crocheting, embroidery, and making quilts for each of her siblings. 

Bernice was proceeded in death by her husband Arnold, parents Pete and Helen, sisters Tillie Koehn and Sophie Neufeld, and nephew Curtis Crumpacker. 

Bernice is survived by her sisters Kate Redger and Shirley Dornberger, brother Pete Heidebrecht, and several nieces and nephews. 

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Glidden-Ediger-Wiggins Funeral Home, McPherson, Kansas. 

Visitation will be Tuesday, October 11 from 6:00-7:00 p.m. at Glidden-Ediger Funeral Home, McPherson, KS. Graveside services will be Wednesday, October 12 at 10:00 a.m. at North Inman Cemetery followed by a memorial service at 11:00 at Glidden-Ediger, McPherson, Kansas.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during Vietnam. 

Steven married Debra Copple on November 28, 1969. 

He managed the Clay Center Pizza Hut, worked at Gilmore-Tatge manufacturing, ran the Longford Gas Station and was the feed operator for Henry Farms for 20 years. 

Steven was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Douglas Cramer.
