Kenneth L. Morgan, 80, of Scranton, KS died Tuesday, June 25, 2024 at his home.&nbsp; He was born July 7, 1943 in Topeka, KS the son of Jack Linder Morgan and Josephine (Smith) Morgan.&nbsp; He graduated from the Scranton High School with the Class of 1961.&nbsp;

He was united in marriage to Rella Segelquist on February 14, 1965 in Scranton, KS.&nbsp; They shared over fifty-nine years of marriage.&nbsp;

After forty-one years, working at Good Year Tire in Topeka, KS as an Industrial Maintenance Mechanic, he retired in 2003.&nbsp; He also enjoyed helping his neighbors weed eat and spending time with his family.&nbsp; He could identify and talk endlessly about World War II aircraft but he never left the ground.&nbsp; He also loved a good joke.&nbsp;

Mr. Morgan was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Josephine Morgan and a sister, Delores Morgan.&nbsp;

Surviving family includes his wife, Rella of the home; two daughters, Kristina Overman of Hoyt, KS and Kristal Morgan of Scranton, KS; three sisters, Karen (Dan Wheeler) Morgan-McConnell&nbsp; and Kay (Joe) Hroback both of New Mexico and Kathy (David) Widner of Berryton, KS; a brother, Larry (Lorie) Morgan of Stockton, KS; and two granddaughters, Morgan and Marlow Overman.

A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at the Cross Road Community Church, 512 Mason Street, Scranton, KS 66537.&nbsp; Inurnment will follow at a later date at Scranton Cemetery.&nbsp; Memorial contributions may be made to the Scranton Fire Department or the Topeka Humane Society and may be sent in c/o the Lamb-Roberts-Price Funeral Home, P.O. Linda M. Harding November 25, 1939 ~ June 29, 2024

Linda M. Harding, 84, of Lindsborg, KS and formerly of Abilene, KS, peacefully passed away on Saturday, June 29, 2024, surrounded by family at Bethany Home, Lindsborg.

Linda was born on November 25, 1939, in Lindsborg, KS, the daughter of Carl Martin “Haggie” and Emily Mercedes (Train) Hagstrand. She graduated from Lindsborg Rural High School and received her bachelor’s degree from Bethany College.&nbsp; She later received her master’s degree from Kansas State University.&nbsp; Linda started her elementary teaching career in Colby, KS.&nbsp; She taught kindergarten for 24 years at Rural Center Elementary School near Abilene, KS before retiring in 1999.

On July 30, 1961, Linda was united in marriage to Bruce Lee Harding in Lindsborg. &nbsp;This union was blessed with three children, Troy, Katrina, and Inga. &nbsp;

She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church and sang in the local presentation of Handel’s Messiah for 38 years.

Survivors include her loving husband of 62 years, Bruce; three children, Troy Harding (Nancy) of Salina, KS, Katrina McGee of Cortez, CO, and Inga Craig (Danny) of Grants Pass, OR; a sister, Sarah (Robert) Sandquist of Newton, IA; seven grandchildren, Kirsten Harding McClintock (Matt), Erik Harding (Megan), Katlynn McGee Larson (Jason), Konnar McGee, Mason Craig, Annika Craig, and Grant Prichard (Hannah); seven great-grandchildren, Quinn, Wesley, &amp; Eva Harding, Hanley and Ailey McClintock, Jaxon Larson, and Cooper Prichard.

She was preceded in death by her parents Carl “Haggie” and Mercedes Hagstrand and son-in-law, Karl McGee.

The memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, July 6, 2024, at Bethany Lutheran Church, 320 N. Main St., Lindsborg.&nbsp; A private graveside service will be at the Elmwood Cemetery, Lindsborg. &nbsp;

Patricia Branstetter, 88, (affectionally known as Pat or Patty) passed away on June 25, 2024 at Riverview Estates in Marquette, KS.

Patty was born on January 12, 1936&nbsp; in Akron, CO to James Earl, Jr and Sue Louise Case. She was the oldest of their 3 children. Her family moved to Wray, CO when she was young. She always considered Wray her home town. Patty's love of the color purple came from Wray, their school colors are purple and white. After graduating high school she made her way to Kansas, then Missouri for a few years and then back to Kansas for good in 1977. Patty had 6 children from a previous marriage. On April 14, 1979 she married Ed Branstetter.

Some of the jobs that she held were Denver Bell as a telephone operator, McVay Ambulance, Walmart, Junghan Brothers, Bosselman Travel Center and Exide Technologies.

Patty was an avid and talented crafter....she sewed &amp; cross stitched but her 2 favorites were crocheting and knitting. She spent her retirement years making hats and mittens for her grandkids, great-grandkids and for the local schools in Salina. She loved all animals, especially cats and birds. Patty was also a Green Bay Packers fan.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Ed Branstetter, step-son Eddie Branstetter and brother John Case, just 5 weeks ago.

She is survived by her 6 children; Steve Warner (Karen) Elk Grove, CA, Pam Toney Chandler, AZ, Doug Warner Lindsborg, KS, Bill Warner (Marlyce) WaKeeney, KS, Cindy Smith (Ron) Salina, KS, Joe Warner Salina, KS, step-daughter Jackie Whitcomb, brother Jim Case Pierce City, MO and sister-in-law Mary Doris Case, Summerville, SC. Patty is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 13 great grand children with 1 on the way.

The family would like to extend or sincere thanks to the staffs of Riverview Estates and Gentiva Hospice of McPherson for all the love and support they have given Patty.

Friends and family will be received Monday, July 1, 2024 from 5 - 7 PM at Roselawn Memorial Heights Chapel, 1920 E. Crawford Salina, KS 67401. Charles Westley Kemp, 49, of Salina, KS, passed from this life on June 23, 2024. Chuck was born on November 22, 1974, to James and Linda (Keele) Kemp, long-time residents of Carpentersville, IL. He was a 1992 graduate of Dundee-Crown High School.

Chuck moved to the Tulsa, OK area in 1998 after the birth of his daughter Jazmine Kemp and marriage to Sandy Chinea, where he resided for many years after the birth of his son James (Jimmy) Kemp in 2001. In October of 2014, he married Melissa Kemp (Lanik) and moved to Salina, KS with her and her children Jermy Bridgers and Gabrielle Vieyra.

If you know Chuck, you know he was a lifelong Cubs/Bears fan. Chuck was not only a loyal Chicago sports fan, but a loyal son, brother, uncle, friend, and husband. He had the most amazing smile that helped him make friends wherever he went. Chuck loved being a nurse and helping others. He was so compassionate to his residents and patients which is why they all loved him so much. The list of things that he wouldn't eat is so long that it would take a whole page just to write them down. I mean who doesn't like cheese and ranch? If it was bad for you, he loved it. Chuck not only had a craving for food, but he also had a craving for life. &nbsp;

Chuck was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ruby (McCubbin), and Melvin Keele, Beverly (Cuttler), and Kenneth Kemp, and his maternal uncles, John and James Keele. He is survived by his parents, James and Linda (Keele) Kemp, his wife, Melissa (Lanik) Kemp, his children, Jazmine (Alex Brakeall)&nbsp; and Jimmy Kemp (Kiyra Glavin), his stepchildren, Jermey Bridges (Katlyn Nimmo), and Gabrielle Vieyra, his grandchildren, Nova, Bodenn, and Harper, his brother Joseph (Stacey Linzy), his sisters, Andrea Curry and Kelley Hickey (John Hickey), his nieces and nephews, Jessica Capasso, Amber Curry, Rebecca Hickey, Elizabeth Hickey, Julia Hickey, Payton Kemp, Gabby Fouth, and Olivia Kemp.

Chuck will truly be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. If I knew Chuck, I know that he would want to tell everyone how much he loved you and not be sad but celebrate his life as well as all the good memories we made together. He would want to tell Melissa and his children that they were loved more than they could ever know and that he will always be around.

Linnie (Laird) Winters, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on June 21, 2024. Born on August 23, 1948, to Carl E. (Andy) Laird and Betty (June) Laird, Linnie lived a life of dedication, love, and service.

Linnie retired from the Topeka Police Department in 2006 after a 27-year career, where she served with distinction and unwavering commitment.

Linnie is survived by her husband of 41 years, Rodger E. Winters, who stood by her side with love and support throughout their journey together. She is also survived by her children, Paul Winters, and Kimberly Parker, as well as her granddaughters, Ashley Humiston and Jordan Parker, their partners Jason Garwood and Matthew Krogman, and her great-grandchildren, Kynleigh, Karsyn, Jaxon, Rylee, Harper, Kyndall, and Jordan. Her family was her world, and she cherished every moment spent with them.

Linnie was a member of the Belmont Nazarene Church and attended First United Methodist Church in Salina, Kansas, Linnie’s faith was a cornerstone of her life. She moved to Salina to be closer to her great-grandchildren, embracing her role as a doting grandmother with open arms. Linnie’s generosity knew no bounds; she volunteered for Meals on Wheels, offering nourishment and companionship to those in need, and served as a mentor at local schools. Linnie’s love for animals, particularly cats, was evident in her tireless support for numerous animal organizations.

Linnie's life will be celebrated at Ryan Mortuary &amp; Crematory in Salina, Kansas,10:00 a.m. Friday June 28, 2024, and will be laid to rest in Meriden Cemetery in Meriden, Kansas the same day at 4:00 p.m. Her life was a testament to love, service, and generosity, and her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Her family invites all those who wish to share in the love for Linnie to attend.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Salina Animal Shelter, honoring Linnie’s lifelong passion and dedication.

Gerald C. Gebhardt, Jr.&nbsp;“Gerry” passed away Saturday June 29, 2024. &nbsp;He was born on November 5, 1943,&nbsp;in&nbsp;Clay Center, Kansas to Gerald C. Gebhardt, Sr.&nbsp;“Jack”&nbsp;and Clara (Mitchell) Gebhardt. &nbsp;Gerry grew up in Wheaton, Kansas, graduating from Wheaton High School in 1961.

Gerry&nbsp;earned his B.S. in Elementary Education from Emporia State University in 1966. Later that year he&nbsp;moved to Kanopolis&nbsp;with his wife,&nbsp;Judy,&nbsp;beginning&nbsp;his&nbsp;39-year&nbsp;career in education,&nbsp;teaching&nbsp;and coaching&nbsp;in Kanopolis. Gerry carried on the tradition of Gebhardt Harvesting and enjoyed custom harvesting for&nbsp;most of his life.

Gerry was a member of the Ellsworth Methodist Church. &nbsp;He&nbsp;served&nbsp;as&nbsp;a city councilman in Kanopolis and&nbsp;was a member of the Kanopolis Men’s Club.

Gerry is survived by his wife of sixty years, Judy, daughter, Ginger Wooten (Dale), and&nbsp;son, Mitch (Angie),&nbsp;and granddaughter&nbsp;Tiffany&nbsp;Lowe (Terrence),&nbsp;granddaughter&nbsp;Katie&nbsp;See (Mike)&nbsp;grandson&nbsp;Shay&nbsp;Wooten (Lindy),&nbsp;grandson&nbsp;Jaxson&nbsp;Gebhardt,&nbsp;grandson&nbsp;Luke&nbsp;Gebhardt,&nbsp;grandson&nbsp;Jacob&nbsp;Gebhardt, and&nbsp;grandson&nbsp;Grady&nbsp;Gebhardt, as well as eight great-grandchildren.&nbsp;&nbsp;Gerry was preceded in death by&nbsp;his parents, Jack and Clara, and his sister Dixie&nbsp;Kufahl.

Visitation will be at the Parsons Funeral Home,&nbsp;Ellsworth on Tuesday, July 2 from&nbsp;1:00 to&nbsp;8:00 p.m.&nbsp;with family members receiving visitors&nbsp;from 4:00 to 6:00.&nbsp;A private family burial will be held on Wednesday morning July 3 at the Kanopolis Cemetery, followed by a celebration of life at 11:00 a.m. at the Ellsworth Methodist Church.

Terry David Schmidt, 58, of McPherson, KS, passed away on Friday, June 28, 2024, due to injuries sustained in a single vehicle accident near McPherson.&nbsp; Terry was an oil and gas operator and producer.

Terry was born on August 13, 1965, in McPherson, KS, the son of Beauferd Wayne and DeAnn (Williams) Schmidt.&nbsp; Terry graduated from McPherson High School in 1983.&nbsp; On May 7, 1994, Terry was united in marriage to Cheryl J. Becker in McPherson.&nbsp; This union was blessed with two daughters, Paige and Madison.

Survivors include his loving wife of 30 years, Cheryl; daughters, Paige Burdick (Matthew) of Wichita, KS and Madison Schmidt of Wichita, KS; mother, DeAnn Decker (Larry) of Galva, KS; brothers, Tony Schmidt (Tiffany) of McPherson, KS and Heath Schmidt (Leesa) of Galva, KS;&nbsp; mother-in-law, Ruby Becker of Moundridge, KS; brother-in-law, Gene Becker (Brenda) of Wichita, KS; nephews and niece, Sam Schmidt, Sylas Schmidt, Kayley Cox (Kody), and Caleb Schmidt (Lindsey); numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Beauferd Schmidt, father-in-law, Merle Becker, and grandparents, Fred &amp; Tennie Williams and David &amp; Dena Schmidt.

The funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, July 5, 2024, at Revolution Church, 1337 W. Kansas Ave., McPherson, with Pastor Steve Gray officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow at McPherson Cemetery.

Calvin "Cal" Unruh June 22, 1942 ~&nbsp;June 25, 2024

Surrounded by his loving family, Calvin (Cal) Unruh, 82,&nbsp; passed away at Pine Village, Moundridge, Kansas, on June 25, 2024.&nbsp; Cal was born on June 22, 1942, at Bethesda Hospital in Goessel, Kansas to Raymond and Stella (Reimer) Unruh.

Cal grew up in rural Galva, Kansas and attended South Union and Sunflower Grade Schools. Cal was the oldest of four children and enjoyed paving the way for the other siblings—sometimes pushing the rules a bit. He attended Moundridge High School where he met the love of his life, Marlene Stucky. Together they enjoyed high school activities, various singing groups, prom and dances at Teen Town.&nbsp; Later they were united in marriage on July 14, 1962, at Eden Mennonite Church and enjoyed 61 years of marriage. Upon confession of faith, Cal was baptized in 1958 at West Zion Mennonite Church in Moundridge, Kansas and later in life became a member of McPherson Mennonite Church, McPherson, Kansas. He received a Bachelor of Science degree at McPherson College where he also played football.

In 1971, another lady entered the Unruh family when daughter Kristal was born. Kristal and her husband, Shane Boswell, were very attentive and helpful as Cal’s health declined in recent months.&nbsp;

Cal had some interesting jobs in his lifetime. He was a purchasing agent at Hesston Corporation, worked at the Parks and Recreation departments in Hutchinson, Kansas and Yuma, Arizona (where he was also a local TV weather forecaster celebrity). He was also an Over The Road trucker for various companies and at one time owned his own trucking equipment and worked as an independent driver.

Everyone who met Cal knew he had a passion for NASCAR racing and motorcycles. Cal liked speed and was thrilled to have the opportunity to do solo laps in a NASCAR race car at the Kansas Speedway Racing Experience. Cal was a “Harley Man” and owned several Harley Davidson motorcycles. He even joked that he would have a specially designed coffin in the shape of a Harley. While he had many motorcycle friends, Cal particularly enjoyed discussing all things motorcycle and riding with his special friend, Stan Stucky. Cal was able to convince Marlene to ride with him on several trips, with the most memorable to Sturgis, South Dakota. Cal and his brother, Wayne, started basketball officiating at Sunflower Grade School and while Wayne continued his officiating career, Cal opted to be an avid sports fan who did not very often miss a televised Kansas Jayhawks basketball game.&nbsp; Another sports highlight for Cal was playing doubles tennis with professional Rosemary Casals who was known as a tennis rebel—a perfect fit for Cal.

Cal leaves many special friends with whom he and Marlene enjoyed ski trips in Colorado and additional travels to Cancun and the Caribbean. He had a caring spirit for other people and was a mentor to a young man at First Mennonite Church.&nbsp; Cal was kind-hearted, mischievous, and loved to tell a good joke even though he got eye-rolling looks from Marlene.

Cal was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Wayne Unruh; parents-in-law John and Cora Stucky, sisters-in-law Vera Thiesen, Pat Stucky and Betty Stucky; brothers-in-law Merlin Thiesen, and Howard Kaufman; Niece Kimberly Kaufman.

Mourning Cal’s departure are his wife, Marlene; daughter and husband, Kristal Unruh and Shane Boswell of McPherson, Kansas; sisters Maggie (Gary) Davenport of Leawood, Kansas and Debra (Terry) Schmidt of Lawrence, Kansas; and special canine companions, Stormy and Vinny.&nbsp; Survivors also include sisters-in-law Helen Unruh, Neva Kaufman and Judy (Roger) Krehbiel; and brothers-in-law Wayne (Sharon) Stucky, Ken Stucky and many nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.&nbsp;

Family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, Sunday, June 30, 2024, at Stockham Family Funeral Home, 205 N. Chestnut, McPherson, Kansas.&nbsp; A graveside service will be at 9:30 AM, Monday, July 1, at McPherson Cemetery followed by a memorial service at 10:30 AM, at First Mennonite Church, 1161 East A Ave., McPherson. &nbsp;&nbsp;

Clarice Lue (Bottorf) Hastings May 31, 1936 ~&nbsp;June 24, 2024

Clarice Lue (Bottorf) Hastings was born May 31, 1936, fourth child of five children to Vernon and Irene Bottorf in Jewell, Ks. She went to be with her Lord and Savior on June&nbsp;24, 2024 at the age of 88 years at her home in Jewell, KS.

Clarice grew up on a farm southwest of Jewell and attended country schools, graduating from Jewell Rural High School with the class of 1954.

Clarice married Emery L. Hastings on February 22, 1955, making their home in Jewell. Born to this union were five children: David, Keith, Deanna, Delores&nbsp;and&nbsp;Daniel. Emery and Clarice enjoyed 39 years together before Emery’s death in 1994. &nbsp;

Clarice’s family was her pride and joy. She enjoyed helping whenever&nbsp;and&nbsp;wherever&nbsp;she was needed.

Preceding Clarice in death were her parents, her husband,&nbsp;Brother&nbsp;Gerald Bottorf and&nbsp;Sister Betty Bowlin.

Survivors include her five children, David (Pam) Hastings, Esbon, KS; Keith of Jewell; Deanna (Bob) Freeman, Jewell, KS; Delores (Bob) Angleton, Mankato, KS; Daniel (Michelle) Hastings, Sparta, MO. Charlotte Johnson, 76, Minneapolis, died Sunday, June 23, 2024, in Minneapolis. She was born March 22, 1948, in Salina, to Marvin and Marjorie (Walmsley) Meredith.

Charlotte was a graduate of Minneapolis High School and graduated from Hutchinson Community College with an L.P.N. degree. Charlotte worked many places in her life, including the Clark Nursing Home, Crestview, Asbury Hospital, the former Good Samaritan Center in Minneapolis, and the Ottawa County Health Department. She was also a longtime hospice nurse and touched many lives while doing so. Charlotte had a unique personality and the largest heart. She was continually taking care of others, even during her time in Minneapolis Health Care and Rehabilitation Center. For a person who never had many possessions, she always had many to give and share with others.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her parents, and siblings, Lois, Calvin, Kenneth, and Richard.

Survivors are her husband, Oscar; children, Dennis, Becky, Aaron, Anthony (Jessica), and Alex (Paula); siblings, Charlene, Karen, Betty, Marva, Marvin, Jr., and Becky; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 10:00 A.M., Friday, June 28, at Highland Cemetery, Minneapolis. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made directly to the family and be left in care of Wilson Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 166, Minneapolis, KS 67467.

Jose Colunga January 20, 1957 ~ June 20, 2024

Jose Colunga, 67, of Salina, passed away on Thursday, June 20, 2024 at Smoky Hill Health and Rehab in Salina, Kansas.&nbsp;

Jose was born the son of Felix and Crusita (Lopez) Colunga on 1/20/1957 in Seguin, Texas. At the young age of five years old, Jose’s parents divorced and he spent eight years at the Sts. Peter and Joseph Orphanage.&nbsp; In 1974, his sister Mary and husband, Richard, became his guardians and were able to raise him in their home.&nbsp; He lived with them for many years, even after his high school graduation from Jack C. Hays High School in Buda, Texas, on May 26, 1977.&nbsp;

There was nothing more that he loved than being called “Uncle Joe!” and being smothered in love by his multiple nieces and nephews.&nbsp; He was fun loving and a practical jokester.&nbsp; He looked to Mary and Richard’s kids as a friend and brother, more so than nieces and nephews.&nbsp; One of their favorite memories is Uncle Joe coming early in the mornings on Easter.&nbsp; He enjoyed hiding eggs filled with money.&nbsp; He was fun to be around.&nbsp;

Jose always worked in restaurants as a cook and assisted others any way he could.&nbsp; This was his profession until he became ill post motorcycle accident.&nbsp; After the wreck, he then moved to Wakefield, Kansas to be cared for by his brother, Sam. &nbsp;&nbsp;

Jose loved his Dallas Cowboys as well as fishing, cooking, swimming and doing art work as a self-taught artist.&nbsp; He was baptized at St. Cecelia’s Catholic Church in San Antonio, Tx.&nbsp;

As of late, he especially enjoyed his outings with his Interim Hospice team as they would visit his favorite restaurants. &nbsp; The incredibly compassionate and caring staff at Smoky Hill Health and Rehab went above &amp; beyond in caring for him over the last several years not only with their cares, but doing things on their personal time to please his tummy with all the food he wanted. Jose also appreciated the care that was given to him by Kim Rayas.Survivors include his brothers and sisters Mary Duecker (Richard) of Kyle, TexasDolores Vega of Cibolo, Tx., Irene Saldana (Ruben) Seguin, Texas, Samuel Colunga (Mieko Falk) Winfield, Kansas, John Colunga (Cynthia) Buda, Texas and Robert Perez (Sandra) San Antonio, Texas; along with numerous nieces and nephews.&nbsp; His guardian and special friend, Kim Rayas of Salina.&nbsp;Jose is preceded in death by his parents; and brothers and sisters: Maria Louis Saldana ,Felix Colunga, Margarita Colunga and Gilbert Colunga.

Stephen H. Barkley, 66, lifelong Salina area resident, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 23, 2024 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Born on January 30, 1958 in Salina, the son of Robert and Julia Berigan Barkley.&nbsp; Steve was a devoted husband, father, and papa.

Steve was raised in Salina where he graduated from Salina South High School in 1976.&nbsp; He married Kimberly Mae Prater on March 23, 1985 in Salina.&nbsp; They had one daughter, Jessica (granddaughter Bayleigh) and son, Matthew.

Steve was a man of many talents and boundless energy.&nbsp;Through the years he had worked at Great Plains Manufacturing and was a cattle rancher at Rolling Hills Ranch before starting his own construction business and doing trim carpentry.

Survivors include his wife Kim of the home; daughter Jessica J. Barkley Kercahl and granddaughter Bayleigh M. Kerchal; son Matthew S Barkley all of Salina.

He is also survived by his sister Michelle (Kevin) Nicolay of Augusta, KS., brothers, Rob Barkley of Kanopolis, KS., Bryon (Lori) Barkley of Nipomo, CA., and Chris Barkley of Salina, KS.&nbsp; Along with a host of friends and family who will miss him dearly.

Steve is preceded in death by his parents Bob and Judy Barkley and brother, Kerry Barkley.

Stephen H Barkley will be remembered for his dedication, kindness, and the love he shared with those fortunate enough to know him.&nbsp; He will be deeply missed and forever cherished in our memories.

A celebration of Steve’s life will be held at Crossroads Church 1125 W. South Street Salina, KS. on Friday June 28th at 10am.&nbsp;

In lieu of flowers, Steve would love donations be made to Children’s Cancer Research or American Heart Association.

Howard Eugene “Bud” Elkins, Jr. August 14, 1929 ~&nbsp;June 17, 2024

Howard Eugene “Bud” Elkins, Jr. age 94, of Mankato, Kansas, peacefully left our world to be welcomed by Jesus and his loved ones in Heaven on June 17, 2024.

Bud was born to Howard and Josephine (Stevenson) Elkins in Paola, KS on August 14, 1929.&nbsp; Bud grew up on the farm which would become the Wakefield Arboretum with his two brothers, Robert (Donetta) and Richard (d. 2023) (Arlene)&nbsp;Elkins, and&nbsp;graduated from Wakefield High School in 1947.

Bud married his high school sweetheart Deane Settles (d. 1973) in December of 1946.&nbsp; To this union three children were born: Cathie Jo Bird (William d. 1998) of Pioneer, Tennessee; Pennie Kay Close (David d. 2010); and Robert “Bob” Timothy McDonald (Colette) of&nbsp;Allenspark, Colorado.&nbsp; The couple went their separate ways in 1956.&nbsp;

Bud married the love of his life, Sandra “Kay” Berry on September 7, 1957.&nbsp; The couple moved frequently during their marriage, spending&nbsp;a number of&nbsp;years in Wakefield, Kansas, and Franklin, Nebraska, then settled down in Mankato, Kansas in 1976, where they lived out the rest of their lives. Bud and Kay raised five children; Stephen Elkins (Debbie) of Wichita, KS; Kimberly Elkins Pierce (Henry), Joel Elkins (Janie Tyler), Shena Elkins Colson (Gary) all of Mankato; and Shane Elkins (Brenda) of&nbsp;Assaria, Kansas.&nbsp; Kay went to be with the Lord in 2018.

During his younger years, Bud was a member of the Congregational Church of Wakefield. In 1967 he was confirmed into the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Mankato and was a dedicated member of that church until the end of his life. Bud’s devotion to God and his family were of utmost importance in his life.&nbsp; He served the Church as a frequent usher, a member of various boards, and as President of the Church Council.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Bud will always be remembered for his unwavering work ethic. He began his career with Alsop Sand in&nbsp;1956, and&nbsp;went on to become a manager of several of their sand/cement plants, finally retiring in 2015 at the age of 86.&nbsp; Bud was respected by all that knew him, and most often described as humble, honest, kind and giving.

Bud is survived by his brother and sister-in-law Robert and Donetta Elkins, sister-in-law Arlene (widow of brother Dick Elkins), many nieces and nephews, and an impressive progeny of grand- and great-grandchildren:

Family and friends will celebrate the life of Bud Elkins at the Evangelical Lutheran Church, 201 S Center Street, Mankato, Kansas on Friday, June 28th at 10:30&nbsp;a.m.&nbsp;with Inurnment at the West Lutheran Cemetery, Mankato. John Rabun Fletcher, 59, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Thursday, June 20, 2024 at his home.

John was born July 4, 1964 in Amarillo, Texas.&nbsp; He was one of three children born to Dick and Betty (Rabun) Fletcher.&nbsp; He grew up in Goodland, Kansas, and graduated from Goodland High School in the Class of ’82.

John was united in marriage to Heather Werner on June 11, 2004 in Russell.&nbsp; They made their home in Russell.

John served the citizens of Russell County as a civil servant for forty years, most recently as the former Russell County Administrator from 2013 to 2024, until his retirement on March 1.&nbsp; Before that he was the Governor Selection to be the Russell County Sheriff in 1999, and then was re-elected as Sheriff until his retirement in 2015.&nbsp; Prior to serving as the Sheriff, John worked as an EMT and Jailer for Russell County and later was a patrolman for the City of Russell in 1988 until his appointment as Sheriff.&nbsp; In 2008, he graduated from the FBI National Academy Program, Quantico, Virginia.&nbsp; John was past president of the Kansas Sheriffs’ Association and after his retirement as Sheriff, he served as the Deputy Director of the Kansas Sheriffs’ Association until his death.

He was a member and past ruler of the Russell Elks Lodge, Kiwanis Club of Russell, the Economic Development Board, past member of the Russell City Fire Department and served eight years on the USD Board of Education.

John enjoyed doing yardwork (no joke!), he took great pride in maintaining his yard, and could often be seen mowing in “road gear”.&nbsp; In his spare time, he enjoyed trips to the casino, playing golf, shooting, and cheering on his beloved Dallas Cowboys, Texas Tech University and Kansas State University.

John had a gift in his ability to make those around him feel safe.&nbsp; He was kind, reliable, and the voice of reason.&nbsp; The calm during the storm, and a pillar of strength to many in their times of darkness.&nbsp; He was a great listener, and could be a man of few words, but he was also lighthearted, enjoyed a good joke, and had a great laugh.&nbsp;

John’s surviving family include his wife and best friend of 20 years, Heather of the home; daughter, Jessica Fletcher-Sudlow (Ryan) of Enid, Oklahoma; son, Justice Becker of Wichita, Kansas; brother, Rick Fletcher (Kelly) of Austin, Texas; sister, Kandi Zimmerman (Mark) of Abeline, Texas; and two grandchildren, Tristan and Willow.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents.

Celebration of John’s Life will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, June 26, 2024 at St. Mary, Queen of Angels Catholic Church.&nbsp; Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Tuesday, June 25, 2024 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, with the family present to greet friends from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM.&nbsp; In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to Russell County Area Community Foundation (RCACF) in John’s name. Janice I. Dickinson, 86, of rural Gorham, Kansas, died on&nbsp;June 20, 2024,&nbsp;at&nbsp;the Russell Regional Hospital in Russell, Kansas.

Janice was born on July 23, 1937, in Manhattan, Kansas, the daughter of James Frank and Buleau (Silkman) Miller. &nbsp;She grew up in Manhattan, Kansas, and graduated from Manhattan High School in the class of 1956. &nbsp;She met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Robert Louis Dickinson on October 21, 1956, in Manhattan. &nbsp;From this union Janice and Robert were blessed with 4 children, Kirk, Sheryl, Valerie and Cathy.&nbsp;&nbsp;She worked with her husband on the family farm and as&nbsp;a&nbsp;homemaker raising their growing&nbsp;family. &nbsp;She also worked for many years as a&nbsp;paraprofessional educator&nbsp;with the Hays School District USD #489&nbsp;in Hays, Kansas. &nbsp;

She was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church in Hays&nbsp;and was a former 4-H leader. &nbsp;She enjoyed sewing, cooking, teaching Sunday school at church, working with 4-H and tending to her vegetable and flower gardens. &nbsp;Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Surviving family include her&nbsp;four children,&nbsp;Robert&nbsp;Kirk Dickinson and wife Coleen of Gorham, Kansas, Sheryl Wambold and husband Bill of Wasco, Oregon, Valerie Kostelansky and husband Bruce of Ft. Maclead, Canada and Cathy Musick and husband Doug of&nbsp;Lawrence, Kansas;&nbsp;sister Lea Piper of New Mexico;&nbsp;11 grandchildren&nbsp;and 6 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her&nbsp;parents, husband Robert on September 15, 2010, sister Jean DeLong and brother Durry Robbins

A memorial service to celebrate Janice’s life will be held at&nbsp;2:30 P.M. on&nbsp;Thursday, June 27, 2024, at the New Life Church in Natoma, Kansas. &nbsp;Cremation has been selected by the family and inurnment of the cremains will be held at the Natoma City Cemetery immediately following the services&nbsp;at the&nbsp;church. &nbsp;Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of&nbsp;Natoma, Kansas, is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.

Rhoda Mae Martin, 74, of Princeton, KS passed away Wednesday June 19, 2024 at her home surrounded by family.&nbsp; She was born September 18, 1949 in Emporia, Kansas the daughter of Glenn Gilbert and Goldena (Cornwell) Gilbert.&nbsp;

Rhoda graduated from Washington High School, Kansas City, KS with the class of 1967.&nbsp; She then graduated from Kansas State University receiving her Bachelor of Science Degree.

In 1972 Rhoda became the Art Teacher for Central Heights High School.&nbsp; She worked there until 1978.&nbsp; From that time on she was a full time mother and wife while also having jobs for a short time at the Post Office, Elizabeth Layton Center and finally, she worked at Arvest Bank for a number of years, which allowed Fred to serve as a vocational Youth Pastor at Ottawa Bible Church.&nbsp;

Rhoda loved her family and loved spending time with them.&nbsp; She was a faithful member of Ottawa Bible Church and was very active in the church with volunteer efforts over the years.&nbsp; Rhoda and Fred were passionate about youth ministry and served together throughout their marriage, impacting the lives of many teens and young adults.&nbsp; She loved the Lord and was always taking opportunities to spread the Gospel.

On August 15, 1970 Rhoda was united in marriage to Fred R Martin in Kansas City, KS.&nbsp; They shared over fifty-three years of marriage.&nbsp; Fred survives of their home in Princeton.

She is also survived by her children, Reuben G. Martin, Kansas City, MO, Brooke L. Mills Ottawa, KS, Seth B. Martin and his wife, Rachel, Colorado Springs, CO, Caleb D. Martin and his wife, Jenny, Fayetteville, AR; two sisters, Connie Bilyeu and her husband, Roy, Overland Park, KS, Roxy O’Dea and her husband, Brad, Ottawa, KS; and five grandchildren, Glenna Mills, Levi Mills, Eden Martin, Finnegan Martin, and Asher Martin.

She is preceded in death by her parents, and a sister Glynis D Gilbert.

Travis Alan Flasschoen November 18, 1982 ~ June 20, 2024

Travis’ life began on November 18, 1982, in Newton. He was the son of Jaymes Lee Flasschoen and Cyndi Dee (Newfield) Easterberg. Travis was a 2001 graduate of Peabody-Burns High School. While in school, Travis played trombone in the band, playing baseball and was a member of the swim team. After graduation, Travis took a job with Artisan Fabrication in Springfield, MO. until a series of health conditions made it impossible for him to work. Travis was united in marriage to Sarah (Dunfield) McAuley on February 1, 2022, in Wichita and they have a young son Trip Flasschoen. Travis loved to hunt and shoot guns with his son and brother. They would often go kayaking or fishing together. Travis would initiate random car trips to just go explore the area with his family and he truly would do anything for anyone at any time. He build sheds, gazebos and chicken coops for neighbors and an anniversary hall tree for Sarah. Building things was the way Travis showed he cared for you. Travis died on Thursday June 20, 2024, in an auto accident not far from his Florence home. He is survived by his wife Sarah McAuley of Florence, son Trip Flasschoen of Florence, his mother Cyndi (Jesse) Easterberg of Peabody, grandmother Jean Schroeder of Peabody, siblings Chad (Missy Dean) Flasschoen of Wichita, Deidra (AJ) Wallin of Ider, AL and Anna (Dylan) Crichton of Sarina, Queensland, Australia; nieces and nephews Elizabeth, Addie, Ali, Bella, Aralyn, Skylynn, Taytum and Blayne. Vida Mae Taylor June 14, 1922 ~ June 21, 2024

Vida Mae Taylor, 102, of Salina, Kansas, passed away Friday, June 21st, at Reflections Retirement Resort, Salina, Kansas where she resided for the past four years.

Vida and her identical twin sister, Vera, were born in Quinter, Kansas on June 14,1922 to the late Fern (Watts) and Solon Elice Merica. Vida graduated from Winona High School before attending Fort Hays State Teachers College. Vida went on to teach school in Kansas until moving to Wichita in her early twenties where she met and married Firmie “Bud” Taylor, Jr. Serving as an Army wife until the end of World War II. Vida and Bud then moved to Western Kansas and began a life of living off the land and raising three children, teaching them the value of honesty, integrity, and hard work.

Vida was often described as a “classy lady” by those who knew her. She was kind and loyal to all who were fortunate to call her their friend. Vida was meticulous about her physical appearance and loved dressing well and never “having a hair out of place.”

Vida was preceded in death by her husband, Firmie “Bud” Taylor, Jr. in 1981 and her parents, three brothers and one sister.

She is survived by her twin sister, Vera Fox of Seattle; and her children, Phyllis Pickel (Tom) of Salina, Kansas, Melvin Taylor (Lee) of Milligan, Nebraska, and Wade Taylor (Sherry) of Baldwin City, Kansas.

Surviving grandchildren, Amy Purcell, Garrett Taylor (Brooke), Lisa Taylor, Aaron Taylor (Kim), Ryan Taylor (Anne); ten great grandchildren; and family friend Barb Chaffee.

Vida's wishes were to be cremated and graveside services will be held at the Winona Cemetery, Winona, Kansas at 11:00 AM, Friday, June 28.
