Earle Lynwood Bess, Jr., 88, passed away on July 01, 2024 at Smokey Hill Health and Rehab in Salina, KS.

Earle was born on June 19, 1936 in Springfield, OH to parents Earle Lynwood, Sr. and Ruth (West) Bess. Upon graduating from Catholic Central High School in 1954 he entered the Air Force and after many duty stations his career ended in 1959 with an honorable discharge.

He was a lifetime member of the NAACP Salina Kansas Unit. He also was a committee member on the Salina, Kansas Martin Luther King, Jr. Ad Hoc Committee.

Earle was a volunteer for many boards and committees throughout the Salina community. Including the Salina Housing Authority, Salina United Way, Volunteer Connection, Martin Luther King, Jr. Child Development Center, Emergency Aid Food Bank, Meals on Wheels, Salina County Sheriff / Salina Police Department Advisory Board, Salina Democratic Party, Salina Community Access Television, George Washington Carver Day Celebration in Minneapolis, KS.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers: Conrad and Anthony Bess.

Earle is survived by his wife JoAnn Bess (Parker); Sons: Earle Bess, III and Michael Bess; Daughter: Pamela Bess-Duke and spouse Noble; 5 Grandchildren and 10 Great-Grandchildren.

Friends and family will be received Wednesday, July 10, 2024 from 9:00 AM until service time at 10:30 AM in the Roselawn Memorial Heights Chapel; 1920 E. Crawford, Salina, KS, with Rev. Dr. Allen D. Smith officiating. Cremation will follow the service and inurnment of his cremains will be at a later date.

Charolette K. Deneault, age 75, of Concordia, KS, passed away on Saturday, July 6, 2024 at her home in Concordia, KS.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was born on June 29, 1949 in Red Cloud, NE to Kenneth J. &amp; Mildred L. (Fielder) Smith.&nbsp;

She married Dale Deneault I, on November 12, 1966 in Concordia, KS.&nbsp;&nbsp;He preceded her on April 3, 2013.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was a lifelong homemaker and always took care of her family, she also worked for USD 333 in the kitchen as well as helping as a para-educator and bus monitor.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Concordia &amp; a former VFW #588 Auxiliary member.&nbsp;

Charolette is survived by her daughters, Denell Wheeler (Brian), Salina, KS &amp; Debbie Hoffer (Rod), Topeka, KS; son, Dale Deneault II (Jacki), Concordia, KS;&nbsp;&nbsp;grandchildren, Braxtyn Wheeler (Anh), Brittany Wheeler, Dustin Hoffer (Megan) Darrick Hoffer (Dana), Rylee Hoffer, Dale Deneault III, Mason Venard &amp; Jalen &amp; Brecklynn Bonner; 11 great grandchildren; sisters, Karen Dykes (Bob), Rhonda Bunch &amp; Lisa Snavely (Mike), all of Concordia, KS;&nbsp;&nbsp;brother, Kevin Smith (Jacque), Concordia, KS, Brad Smith (Rhonda), El Dorado, KS, Kent Smith (Julie),&nbsp;&nbsp;Concordia, KS, Terry Smith (Modene) &amp; Todd Smith (Dana), both of Salina; and many nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

Ray (Raymond) Eugene Deiser September 16, 1960 ~ July 5, 2024

Ray (Raymond) Eugene Deiser&nbsp;left this earthly world on July 5th, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones. Ray was born in Hill City, Kansas on the 16th of September, 1960. After graduating from Ellsworth High School, he proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps for four years.

Ray dedicated many years of service to the Girl Scouts and St. Mary’s parish. He regularly donated blood and platelets to the Red Cross. Over the years, Ray gave many hours of his time to various charities and organizations, most recently the Smoky Hill River Festival. He worked for Exide Manufacturing for many years before switching to REPCO for the remaining years of his life.

Ray is remembered for his incredibly kind heart. He was the type of person who would do anything for anyone. His positive outlook on life and his generosity of spirit touched the lives of many.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents Bill Deiser, Jack McCue, and Ruby Deiser; his brother Ben Deiser, brother-in-law Donny Stone, and sister-in-law Ginny Deiser.

Ray is survived by his beloved wife, Debra (Vickroy), his five children and eight grandchildren: Nichole (Tyler) Wolf- Mason, Sylvie, Evalyn; Megan (Leon) Allotey; Stephan (Chelsea) Shelton- Kaylynn, Regan; Raymond II (Molly) Deiser- Lillyann, Leland, Cora; Tasha Deiser. He is also survived by his stepmother Shirley Deiser and his siblings Darlene Deiser, Sue Stone, and Tim Deiser. &nbsp;

Visitation will be at Ryan Mortuary, located at 137 N 8th St. in Salina, Ks, from 5 – 8 p.m. on July 10th, 2024. Rosary to be said at 7 p.m.

Funeral Services will be at St. Mary Queen of the Universe, located at 230 E. Cloud St., in Salina, Ks, on July 11th, 2024 at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at All Saints Catholic Cemetery, located at 3350 E. Crawford St., in Salina, Ks.

All are welcome to join the family in celebration of Ray’s life!

Ray E. Deiser

Mary Lou Wilcoxson November 17, 1946 ~&nbsp;July 2, 2024

Mary Lou Wilcoxson was born November 17, 1946 in Sheridan, Wyoming. She grew up and attended school in Downs, Kansas.

In 1962 Mary Lou met Jerome Wilcoxson and they married on April 6, 1963, they started out married life in Osborne, Kansas where they had their first child, a daughter Lisa. After Lisa’s birth Jerome and Mary Lou moved to Salina for better work opportunities. In 1968 they had their second child, a son Darrin. In 2019 they lost their son at age 50 to Influenza A.&nbsp;

Mary Lou had a wonderful job opportunity in Salina working in the early days of Tony’s Pizza which is now Schwan’s Global Supply Chain.&nbsp; She was a supervisor working closely with Al Schwan. Mom would tell us stories of business trips with Al piloting the small plane. Al knew that Mom wasn’t fond of the small plane and she had a small bladder requiring use of the bathroom often. Al had an ornery streak so he would get close to Salina coming home and then detour by the nearest lake or body of water and fly low over it pointing it out to Mom to torment her. Mom had much respect for Al. She was working up the corporate ladder at Tony’s when she became permanently disabled due to a work injury. She became severely injured while trying to protect her employees from being hurt.&nbsp;

Mary Lou and Jerome spent 61 years together prior to her passing on July 2, 2024. During their years together she dealt with many medical issues and dealt with much pain from her work injury. She ultimately passed from Pancreatic Cancer diagnosed on April 30, 2024.&nbsp;

Mary Lou is survived by her husband Jerome of the home. Her daughter Lisa (Brian) and grandson Colby all of Salina. Daughter in Law Melissa Wilcoxson of Wellington, granddaughter Hollie White (Jake) and sons Carter and Lucas of Wellington, granddaughter Morgan Gibbs (Brett) of Towanda, grandson Eli Wilcoxson of Wellington. Special family friend/daughter Judy DeHerrera and her family of Brookville.&nbsp;

She was predeceased by her son Darrin, her parents Stanley and Mary Bolin as well as her parents in law Harold and Mildred Wilcoxson.

Mary Lou requested that only a graveside service be held which will take place at 11:00 on Tuesday July 9, 2024 at Roselawn Memorial Park; casual dress please. Prior to the service visitation with the family will take place at Roselawn Burial and Cremation Services, 1920 E. Crawford from 9:00 to 10:30. The family would like to thank Gentiva Hospice of Salina for their compassion and wonderful care in Mary Lou’s final two weeks of life with special thanks to Yvonne and Jana. We also appreciate the kindness and help extended from Roselawn Burial and Cremation Services.

Ernest Allen Sommerfeld March 6, 1932 ~&nbsp;July 1, 2024

Ernest Allen Sommerfeld, 92, of Olathe, KS, passed away on July 1, 2024.

He was born March 6, 1932, on the family farm in Canton, Kansas, the fourth child of Charles John and Elsie Sommerfeld (née Auernheimer). In 1949, the family moved to Wonsevu, KS. Ernie graduated from Cedar Point High School in 1950.

On April 5, 1975, Ernie married Mary (née Blake) in Marquette, Kansas. The couple had two children: John and Katrina. Ernie also helped to raise his wife’s children from her previous marriage: Darrel, Penny, and Maryann Willoughby.

Ernie farmed for most of his life across the state of Kansas. He worked for Merrill Christiansen near Durham for 25 years.

Ernie was preceded in death by Mary, his wife of 49 years. He was also preceded by his parents; brothers Cliff, Milford, and Arnie; sister Elda; and daughter Maryann Willoughby.

He is survived by his sister, Ethel Kaiser (Lenexa, KS); brother, Verlin Sommerfeld (Durham, KS); sons, Darrel Willoughby and John Sommerfeld (Biloxi, MS); daughters, Penny Willoughby (Seattle, WA), and Kat Jameson (Independence, MO). He was blessed with nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held at the Canton Community Center, 100 S Main St, Canton, KS at 2:00pm, Saturday, July 13, 2024. The family will receive visitors immediately following the service. A private inurnment will be held at a later date at Valley View Cemetery, Roxbury, KS.&nbsp;In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts be made to the Ernest Sommerfeld Memorial Fund through Olson’s Mortuary,&nbsp;PO Box 355,&nbsp;Canton, Kansas, 67428.

David N Giebler, a resident of Hiawatha, Iowa, formerly of Hays, Kansas, passed away at home on June 21, 2024. He was born on August 12, 1952, in Hays, Kansas, to Celestine “Celly” and Mary (Kroner) Giebler.

In October 1977, he married Colleen Rae Ferguson in Hiawatha, Iowa.

David graduated from Hays High School in 1970 and from the Central Institute of Technology in Kansas City, Missouri, in 1972 with an Associate’s Degree in Applied Science in Electronics Engineering Technology. David retired from Rockwell Collins after 33 years as an electrical technician.

David enjoyed his cats and was an active volunteer of the Iowa Humane Alliance. He enjoyed tinkering with his hot rod cars and even raced them in his younger years.

David is preceded in death by his parents and his wife Colleen in 2010.

David is survived by his stepdaughter Anne Andrews (Bill Fleisher) of Alexandria, Virginia, and stepson Scott (Joy) Andrews of Huxley, Iowa; six grandchildren; sister Shirley (Earl) Brungardt of Hays, Kansas, brother Larry Giebler of Victoria, Kansas, brother Rick (Marilyn) Giebler of Hays, Kansas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

David’s wish was to have a burial in Kansas.

Private gravesite services will be held at a later date.

Elizabeth “Betty” Bachofer May 29, 1926 ~ June 30, 2024

Elizabeth “Betty” Bachofer, 98, passed away surrounded by family on June 30th, 2024.

Betty was born on May 29th, 1926, in Salina, Kansas to Frank and Agnes Hoeffner and was the oldest of 5 children. After graduating from Sacred Heart High School, she attended Marymount College, then started working for the Lee Hardware Company as a bookkeeper.

On February 7th, 1948, she was united in marriage to Daniel J Bachofer Jr. Together, they had 6 children: Carol Brent (Dean), Rose Marie Novack (Richard), Teresa Dobson (Randy), Danise Glavin (Curtis), Michael Bachofer (Jennifer), and Mary Lu Bachofer; as well as 10 Grandchildren, 25 Great Grandchildren, and 4 Great Great Grandchildren.

Betty and Daniel owned and operated Daniel J Bachofer Plumbing &amp; Heating for over 30 years. Betty enjoyed sewing, square dancing, bowling, and crossword puzzles.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Daniel; three brothers, Richard, Robert, and James Hoeffner; sister Virginia Gasper, daughter Teresa Dobson, son-in-law Dean Brent, and granddaughter Shasta Crum.

Visitation will be at Ryan Mortuary from 4 – 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 9th. Family will be present 6 -8 p.m. Rosary to be said at 7 p.m.

Funeral Services will be at St. Mary’s Parish in Salina, Kansas on Wednesday, July 10th, 10 a.m.&nbsp; Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

The family would like to extend our sincere thanks to Betty’s home caregivers, the staff of Presbyterian Manor, and Gentiva Hospice of Salina for all the love and care they have given Betty.

Thomas "Tom" E. Corcoran April 21, 1962 ~ July 2, 2024

Thomas ( Tom ) Eugene Corcoran was born at Portsmouth Naval Hospital, Portsmouth, Virginia on April 21, 1962 to James Franklin Corcoran of Ottawa, Kansas and Judith Ellen ( Bond ) Corcoran of Detroit, Michigan.&nbsp; Tom was raised in Ottawa from 1963 forward, attending Lincoln Elementary School, Ottawa Middle School, and finally graduating from Ottawa High School with the OHS Class of 1981.&nbsp; During high school, Tom worked at the Ottawa Municipal Airport, mowing and doing odd jobs.&nbsp; Upon graduation, he worked for several years at ECKAN Weatherization.&nbsp; After this, he did odd jobs, mowed lawns and had a few brief stints with various employers before finally settling into what Tom was most known for : scrapping appliances and metal.&nbsp; Scrapping occupied his time for many, many years and he was well known around town as that guy in the white truck that hauls things off.&nbsp; He continued these efforts until his health no longer allowed him to drive.&nbsp;&nbsp;

As a young man, Tom traveled the US extensively with his grandmother, Mildred Corcoran, and Uncle Tony Corcoran when they embarked on driving vacations with Tom in tow.&nbsp; He visited many of the States, even flying to Hawaii, during this time.&nbsp; Tom had a unique sense of humor and a love for action movies and professional wrestling, often entertaining his siblings and nephews with his unique “re-enactments” of the movies and matches he enjoyed.&nbsp; Tom also engaged his drawing talents off and on.&nbsp; He was quite skilled at sketching and, from time to time, created elaborate comical cartoons featuring people in his life.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Tom also essentially had a second family, being pretty much “adopted” by the family of his life-long friend, Jesse Garcia.&nbsp; Jesse, as well as his parents and sisters, always treated Tom like a brother or a son for over fifty years.&nbsp; The Corcoran family is forever grateful to the Garcia family.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Tom is survived by : his step-mother, Penny Corcoran, his brother, Tim Corcoran, and his wife, Linda, his sister, Teresa Falls, and her husband, Mark as well as a myriad of nephews, nieces, great-nephews, great-nieces, and one great-great nephew and one great-great niece.

Graveside funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Monday July 8, 2024 at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Ottawa, KS.&nbsp; The family will greet friends for a visitation from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Sunday July 7, 2024 at Lamb-Roberts Price Funeral Home, Ottawa, KS. Gary Melvin Harding February 15, 1942 ~ July 1, 2024

Gary Melvin “Coach” Harding, 82, of Salina, Kan., passed away Monday, July 1, 2024. He was born on February 15, 1942, in Goodland, Kan., to Virgil “Pete” and Josephine “Jo” (Jensen) Harding.

Gary wrestled for Fort Hays State for 1 year before enlisting in the Air Force. After five years in the Air Force, Gary and his family settled in Salina in 1967. Gary attended Salina Area VoTec in autobody and painting then worked in the autobody field before returning as an instructor in a career that spanned over 30 years. In 1972, Coach Harding founded the Salina Kids’ Wresting Club and coached the team for the next 11 years. In 1983 he accepted the wrestling coaching position at Southeast of Saline High School where he led the Trojans to back-to-back State Championships and was awarded Kansas 3-2-1A Coach of the Year three times. Coach Harding went on to coach at Salina Central in 1989, and for five years he served as a coach for the Kansas Junior Nationals Freestyle and Greco Team. He was voted 5A Sportsmanship Coach of the Year by the Kansas Wrestling Officials Association in 1997 and was a 2006-2007 Inductee to the Kansas Wrestling (KWCA) Hall of Fame. He had a love for raising pigeons and doves and was proud to have been a past president of the American Dove Association.

Survivors include his wife, DeVona (Henry) Harding, of the home; sons, Rod Lynn Harding (Libby), Salina, Kan., and Weston Wayne Harding, of Salina, Okla.; grandkids, Lauren Harding, Amanda Koerperich, Jordan Harding, Tyler Harding, Gary Wayne Harding, Jacob Harding, and Sophia Harding; six great-grandkids; and brother, Jerry Harding (Jane), Liberal, Kan.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and son, Dannie Dean Harding.

A visitation is planned for 4-8 p.m. on Sunday, July 7, with family present from 6-8, at Ryan Mortuary, Salina. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m., on Monday, July 8, at United Methodist Church of the Cross, Salina, with the graveside committal service on the following day, Tuesday, July 9, at 11 a.m. at the Stockton Cemetery, Stockton, Kan.

Joyce E. Koepplin, 80, of Salina, passed away peacefully at her home on June 28, 2024.&nbsp; She was born on September 27, 1943 in Salina, Kansas to Leo P. and Almetta D. (Nolind) Peiffer.

Joyce graduated from Salina High School and Brown Mackie Business College.&nbsp; She married Charles W. Koepplin on October 17, 1963.&nbsp; Joyce was a homemaker while Charles was finishing his service with the Airforce.&nbsp; Joyce then went on to spend a few years working at Montgomery Wards before starting her accounting career with Crestwood Cabinets.&nbsp; She went on to work for Salina Supply where she retired in 2006.

She loved her family very much.&nbsp; Joyce is preceded in death by her husband Charles W. Koepplin, and her brother Loren Peiffer.&nbsp; She is survived by her sons David Koepplin and Scott Koepplin (Thresa); five grandchildren, Chesna (Matt), Erin (Russ), John (Jaide), Kara (Bre), Megan (Avery) and five great-grandchildren, Brooklyn, Lilah, Jensen, Jayden, and Evan.

Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at Church of the Cross, 1600 Rush, Salina, Kansas.&nbsp;

Terence E. Carlson, 102, passed away on June 30, 2024, just a month short of his 103rd birthday, at Sunflower Terrace in Lindsborg. Terence was born on August 03, 1921 in Lindsborg to the late Abel W. and Ellen V. (Nilson) Carlson.

Terence earned a bachelor's degree and was a World War II veteran who served in the United States Navy. He was a long time farmer in the Lindsborg area. On May 5, 1945 he married Margaret Richards at Marquette, KS. He was also an active member of the Lindsborg Evangelical Covenant Church.

Terence is survived by his daughters: Marsha Wilson of Overland Park, KS, Rachel Carlson (Aaron) of Loveland, CO, Miriam Carlson (Patrick Crockett) of Lindsborg, and Rita Shultz (Craig) of Wichita, KS; son-in-law: John Martin (Jolene); daughter-in-law: Jane Allison (Duane), as well as 14 grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Terence is preceded in death by his parents; wife: Margaret; daughter: Mary L. Martin; son Daniel G. Carlson; son-in-law: James Wilson; infant brother: Arnold Carlson; brother: Homer Carlson and wife Margaret; sisters: Helen Watts and husband Herb and Eunice Peterson and husband Norris; grandson: Brian Shultz; and great-grandson: Caden Carlson.

Visitation will be Friday, July 5, 2024 from 5pm to 7pm at Crick-Christian Funeral Home.

Beatrice M. Ramsey, 77, passed away Tuesday, July 2, 2024 in Salina, KS. She was born November 10, 1946 in Woodward, OK to Hugh and Anabel (Brown) Isbell. Beatrice married Kenneth Bailey in Vici, OK on August 23, 1964. She later married Jack Ramsey in Winfield, KS on September 10, 1983. She was a bookkeeper retiring from Furniture Factory Outlet. Living in Ellsworth since 2013, she was a member of the Smoky Hill Baptist Church and spent many hours working at the Ellsworth County Historical Society museum complex.

Beatrice is survived by her sons, Wade Bailey of Wichita, KS and Dale Bailey (Christi) of Ellsworth; daughter Karla Bailey of Gillette, WI; stepdaughters, Jackie Brown (Ron) of Ponca City, OK and Shelley Overbey (James) of Fayetteville, AR; 12 grandchildren and many great grandchildren; and brothers, Mike Isbell of Gillette, WI and Patrick Isbell of Riverside, CA. Dennis Willard Scoville, 78, of Salina, Kan., passed away on Sunday, June 30, 2024. He was born on June 22, 1946, in Salina, to Charles and Patricia (Nelson) Scoville.

Dennis was raised in Smolan, Kan., and graduated from Lindsborg High School in 1964. He married Pamela Albert on August 1, 1970, in Salina, and that same year started his career with the Salina Fire Department, retiring in 2001 as a firefighter engineer. Dennis also was an owner/operator of D&amp;P Auto Repair in Salina for many years. In his spare time, he was a hobby pilot and an avid car enthusiast and loved outdoor sports and hunting.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Pamela; children, Chad Scoville (Melissa) and Jami Augustine (Jason); grandchildren, Colston, Porter, Rogan, and Maclaren Scoville, and Drake and Cali Augustine; sisters, Donna Smith and Patty Basgall (Dave); and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Duane Scoville; and niece, Jennifer Bartunek.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, July 5, 2024, at Ryan Mortuary, Salina, with burial at the Smolan Cemetery, Smolan. A reception will directly follow at the Öl Stuga,&nbsp;119 S Main St,&nbsp;Lindsborg, Kan.

Delma (Meall) Hitchcock April 17, 1934 ~ June 26, 2024

Delma was born April 17, 1934 at Beloit, Kansas to David Pace and Anna Moxter Meall. She was raised on the family farm on the Solomon River southeast of Cawker City, Kansas that had been homesteaded in 1871 by her great grandparents. After completing the elementary grades at Spring Creek country school, she attended Cawker City High School – graduating in 1952.

In the fall of 1952, Delma started college at Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina, Kansas. She graduated in 1957 with a degree in elementary education, including two years teaching on a “60-hour” teaching certificate. She was active in campus life and was honored as Miss Wesleyan her senior year. She graduated summa cum laude.

At Kansas Wesleyan, Delma met her husband Bert Hitchcock of Burlington, Colorado and made a circle of lifelong friends.&nbsp; Wesleyan events remained a focal point and the campus a gathering place for Bert and Delma and their college friends for the rest of their lives.&nbsp;

Delma married Albert E. “Bert” Hitchcock at Cawker City in 1956 and they shared fifty-six years of marriage until his death in 2012. They began their careers at Oakley, Kansas in 1957 and welcomed three children – Steve, Teri, and Jodi – during their time there. Delma taught second grade at Oakley until the arrival of her children and Bert was the junior high principal. The family moved to Ashland and then Russell, where the Hitchcock kids all graduated. At Russell, Delma was a reading specialist at Bickerdyke Elementary School for several years. The couple then moved to Ellsworth and Baldwin City where Bert served as superintendent in those districts and they retired in Baldwin City.

Delma was a lifelong active member of the United Methodist Church and served in various offices in the congregation and United Methodist Women. She was active in community groups in every community, most notably P.E.O., where she was a member for over 50 years. She also sewed over one hundred Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls for children of family and friends over the years. In retirement, she researched and preserved family history and genealogy.

She is survived by her children; Steve Hitchcock, Baldwin City, Teri Tankel (Ron), Overland Park, and Jodi Hitchcock, Lawrence, and grandchildren Jordan Ibarra (Joe), Merriam, and Sam Tankel, Denver. She is also survived by her brother Bryan Meall (Dee), Minneapolis, Kansas, niece Dani Walters (Chris), Shawnee, Kansas, nephew David Meall, Brooklyn, New York and several nieces and nephews on the Hitchcock side of the family.

A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church of Baldwin City on Saturday July 13 at 11 a.m. with a visitation at 10 a.m.&nbsp; Inurnment will be at Prairie Grove Cemetery in Cawker City, Kansas on a later date.

The family would like to thank the Visiting Nurses and Delma’s friends, especially Katie Skinner and Dallas Merritt for their help and comfort these past few weeks.

Merle Gene Walker, 79, of Marquette, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, July 2nd, 2024. Merle was born in Salina, Kansas on January 29, 1945, a son of Charleen Anna (Mohler) Miller and Donald LeRoy Walker.

He proudly served in the United States Navy from 1965 - 1969 on the USS Repose in Vietnam as a Helmsman.

He held many jobs during his lifetime but spent the majority of his career at Westinghouse / Philips Lighting.Merle loved fishing, drag racing, working on cars, boating, camping, watching hummingbirds, was Mr. Fix-it to everyone, and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

He was very committed to his 47 years of sobriety and was faithful to the God of his understanding and the 12 Step Program. He was passionate about helping others on their path to recovery.

Survivors include his two daughters, Shelly Lien (Chad), of Shawnee, Kansas, Tricia Walker (Mica), of Shawnee, Oklahoma; 2 grandchildren, Kendall Lien, Brayden Lien; brother, Charles Walker, of Wichita, Kansas; and many extended family members and friends.He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Bruce, Dean, and his twin brother, Perle.

Visitation will be held 1:00 PM - 8:00 PM, Monday, July 8th at Carlson - Geisendorf Funeral Home in Salina with family receiving friends from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM.

James L. McKale December 10, 1942 ~ June 30, 2024

James Lee “Jim” McKale, age 81 of Abilene, Kansas, died Sunday, June 30, 2024 at Memorial Hospital- Abilene, Kansas.He was born on December 10, 1942 in Clay Center, Kansas, the son of Dale and Nadine (Faulkner) McKale. Jim was raised in the Longford, Kansas community where he graduated from Longford High School in 1960. He continued his education at Hutchinson Community College in Hutchinson, Kansas, followed by barber school in Wichita, Kansas.

On June 3, 1969, Jim’s life changed forever when he married Iris (Teasley) McKale and her four children in Abilene, Kansas. On January 22, 1970, Jim and Iris welcomed a daughter, Terry Lynn. Jim was a foreman at KPL (Riverside) in Abilene, Kansas and later an electrical supervisor at Jeffery Energy Center, St. Marys, Kansas before retiring in 2002 at the age of 59. During Jim’s time of working, he also continued his passion of barbering in the evenings in Longford, Kansas.

Jim had a variety of facets to his life. Jim was a high school “stud” participating in all of the sports, and him, along with his brother’s, built a reputation that followed him into adulthood. Jim continued with sports playing softball, refereeing football, and was known to be an avid golfer. Jim enjoyed being outdoors hunting deer, coyotes, and pheasants and helped in the summertime on the family farm. Family time was something Jim treasured and he was able to make lifelong memories with his grandsons by spending time with them barbering their hair.

Jim was a member of The Elk’s Club of Abilene, Kansas, Pheasant’s Forever, Bethel Methodist Church, Longford, Kansas, and a member of the Country Club both of Wamego, Kansas and Abilene, Kansas.

He is survived by his wife, Iris McKale, of their home in Abilene, Kansas. Also surviving are his children: Randy Hern (Leah), Abilene, Kansas; Danny Hern (Theresa), Abilene, Kansas; Kimberly Manwaring, Burlington, Kansas; and Timberly Bowers (Greg Huston), Abilene, Kansas, 8 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews also survive.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents: Dale and Nadine McKale; brothers, Bill McKale and Denny McKale; daughter, Terry Lynn McKale-Kolde; grandson, Kirk Manwaring; and infant great-great grandaughter Vera.

Natalie Dawn Lober- O'Leary was born on March 14, 1988. She grew up in Leavenworth, Kansas and spent the summers with her grandma and family at Camp riding horses. In 2006 she had a beautiful daughter, Shiann, who was the light of her life. After high school, the joined the Army and was stationed in Germany. She married Adam Nichols and the 3 of them lived in Dunnellon, Florida close to the wonderful Nichols family.Years later, she met Chris O'Leary and they were married. They had a tattoo business that Natalie helped to manage. She enjoyed the ocean, her animals, motorcycles, life in Florida and her family and friends. She loved to decorate her home and to cook. She recently added a beautiful Frenchie dog named Queen to her family. She adored Queen and took her with her everywhere.Natalie was caring and trusting and looked for the best in people. She would go out of her way to help a friend in need even if she was struggling.She was visiting Abilene when her husband Chris, passed away in 2020. A few years later, in 2023, her daughter, Shiann tragically passed away.Natalie had a fiery spirit and was very determined when she needed to accomplish something. After her daughter’s death, she moved to Wichita and worked hard to start over when this heartbreaking accident occurred.She was light, love, smart, funny, fierce, and caring. She will always be intensely missed by everyone that knew her as we keep the memory of her in our hearts.Surviving her are her mother, Cindy Monroe of Abilene, her father, Terry Lober, of Florida, her half- brother, Joe Lober and her uncle Dennis Monroe, of Abilene.She was pre-deceased by her husband, Chris O’Leary, daughter, Shiann Lober, and her grandparents Doris &amp; Ron Shivers.Visitation will be July 9,2024 from 5 to 7 the Martin Becker Carlson Funeral Home in Abilene. Michael “Buco” Kent Coats, beloved husband, son, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, and friend, passed away at his home on June 27, 2024. He was 60 years old.Born on September 17, 1963, Michael was a hard-working man who dedicated 33 years of his life as a pipe fitter at Oxychem/Vulcan. Michael was known for his strong work ethic and his dedication to providing for his family. When he wasn't working, you could find him fishing, hunting, coaching bitty basketball, cooking his favorite dishes like chili verde, ribs, or manicotti. And never missing a game during college basketball season rooting for the Kansas Jayhawks or his favorite MLB team, the New York Yankees. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren. Michael was known for his quirky comments and statements, and was always willing to lend a helping hand to a neighbor or friend. He is survived by his wife Stacey of Whitewater; mother Marilyn Coats of Potwin; Children: Jacob (Ricky) Coats of Wichita, Jaclyn (Andy) Nellans of Burns, Caitlin (William) Mullan of Grass Valley, CA, Quintin (Natasha) McGehee of Valley Center, Margaret Coats of Whitewater; Grandchildren: Silas, Raegan, Amelia, Orion, and Harper; and his sister Pamela (Roger) McQuiston of Potwin. &nbsp;Milly Jean Schrader August 6, 1929 ~ June 25, 2024

Milly’s life began on August 6, 1929, in Abilene, KS. She was the daughter of Clinton Willet and Cora Leona (Comer) Emig. Milly was a 1947 graduate of Abilene High School and taught in a one-room schoolhouse in her early years. She worked as Administrative Assistant of Student Services at University of Kansas School of Medicine in Wichita. After retirement, she worked at JoAnn Fabrics in Wichita and later at the Board of Regents in Topeka. Milly was an avid reader, logging thousands of books throughout her lifetime and instilling the love of reading in her children and grandchildren. She had a love for words and learning so crossword puzzles were a favorite pastime and would become group efforts when family gathered. Once she was introduced to counted cross-stitch, she was captivated. If a cross-stitch project was not in progress, she was restless, asking for requests for new projects. She was also an accomplished seamstress, making clothing for children and grandchildren, piecing quilt tops using scraps, and repairing and repurposing what others might have discarded. Milly was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Herington. She is survived by her children Kirby (Cynthia) Schrader of Magnolia, TX; Monte (Denise) Schrader of Midland, TX; Larry (Miyong) Schrader of San Antonio, TX; Vicky (Darrell) Minton of Latimer, KS; Dana (Anna) Schrader of Grimes, IA; Dede (Jeff) Patterson of Latimer, KS and Jenny (Rich Schwabauer) Schrader of Portland, OR; grandchildren Steven Schrader, Heidi (Gray) Gregory, Dylan (Ariel) Schrader, Andrew (Magenta) Schrader, Molly (Jason) Stepp, Kelby Schrader, Bailley Schrader, Ben (Winter) Schrader, Megan (Casey) Rhea, Ryan (Andrea) Glessner, Dustin Glessner, Josh (Brooklyn) Patterson and Kaiti Patterson. Milly passed away at her home on Tuesday, June 25, 2024. Jared’s life began on March 24, 1986, in Herington, KS. He was the son of Thomas Vaughn and Lori (Herpich) Hughes. Jared attended Herington High School before entering the United States Army. He served his country as an Army Medic attached to the 1-10 Calvary. Jared’s loving family includes his mother Lori (Art) Hughes of Wichita, daughter Lilith Vaughn of Colorado, and sisters Whitney (Jerod) Larson of Inman and Hayley (Tony) Ferris of Kansas City, and brother, Clayton (Erin) Hughes of Wichita. As well as many uncles, aunts and cousins. He is preceded in death by his father Thomas Vaughn, grandparents, Donald Herpich, Shirley and Lester Harmon and uncle, Gene Herpich.

Jared loved the outdoors, nature and science. As a young boy he loved the water and enjoyed wakeboarding with family and friends. He was an avid skateboarder and ski boarder. Jared and his dad went hunting and fishing on a regular basis as he was growing up, including a fishing trip to Alaska. This followed Jared through his adult life, he loved to fish any spot he could throw in a line. His biggest love in life was his daughter Lily. He cherished every moment he had with her, making art projects, reading together, planting flowers or having a day doing anything Lily requested.

&nbsp;Jared died unexpectedly on Wednesday June 19, 2024, in Collbran, CO. His family will gather with friends on Saturday July 27, 2024, at 1 p.m. at Sunset Hill Cemetery, Herington for his graveside memorial service, all are welcome to attend. Terry L. Wilkinson-Enright, 60, of Baldwin City, KS, formerly of Albany, MO, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at 5:04 p.m. June 24, 2024.&nbsp;

She was born February 28, 1964 in Albany, MO to Charles and Linda (Stephens) Wilkinson.&nbsp;

Terry was a loving caregiver her entire life where she always put others before herself.&nbsp; She taught others to be kind and be caregivers to others with disabilities and to the elderly.&nbsp; She had worked in nursing homes and group homes her entire life.&nbsp; She will forever be known as “Mama T”.

Terry had a love for all animals and the outdoors.&nbsp; She enjoyed camping, horseback riding and most of all, spending time with her family and grandchildren.&nbsp; Her kids and grandchildren were her everything and she was always telling them how proud she was of them.

Surviving is the love of her life, Tim Enright of Baldwin City, KS; her children, Chris (Mary Sue) Novak of Ottumwa, IA, Britta Fish (Daniel Skinner) of Olathe, KS, Cassie (Shane) Pokorney of Stillwater, OK, Jesse Enright of Lawrence, KS, Maggie Enright of Baldwin City, KS, Tyler Enright of Baldwin City, KS, and Tatiana Smith of Gladstone, MO; her grandchildren, Madison Novak, Brantley Novak, and Kaylee Jensen; her parents, Charles (Etta) Wilkinson of Albany, MO and Linda (Ron) Sorensen of Albany, MO; her siblings, Marcy (Tim) Sorensen of Albany, MO, Deanna Hurkman of Albany, MO, Tina (Nathan) Thompson of Smithville, MO, Chuck Wilkinson of Wellington, KS, Beth (Jason) Quigley of Trimble, MO, Robin (Mike) Butterfield of Darlington, MO, Teresa Snead of Fort Scott, KS, and Sandy Sweat of Fort Scott, KS; her dog, Winchester; her granddog, Duke; and many nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

Her body has been cremated and a Celebration of Life service will be held at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, August 3, 2024 at Hundley-Whaley Extension &amp; Education Center in Albany, Missouri.&nbsp; A private inurnment will be in Old Brick Cemetery in Albany, MO.&nbsp;

Elsie Elizabeth (Bowman) Wray, 88, of Pomona, Kansas died Sunday, June 23, 2024 at her daughter’s home in Pomona, Kansas surrounded by family.

She was born August 9, 1935 in Boones Mill, Virginia the daughter of John and Susie (Beckner) Bowman.&nbsp;

 </figure>Elsie Elizabeth (Bowman) Wray August 9, 1935 ~ June 23, 2024Elsie Elizabeth (Bowman) Wray, 88, of Pomona, Kansas died Sunday, June 23, 2024 at her daughter’s home in Pomona, Kansas surrounded by family.She was born August 9, 1935 in Boones Mill, Virginia the daughter of John and Susie (Beckner) Bowman.&nbsp;On August 9, 1959, Elsie was united in marriage to Leonard Wray in Boones Mill, VA.&nbsp; They shared 54 years of loving marriage until Leonard’s passing on April 26, 2014.&nbsp;Elsie was born and grew up on a farm in Franklin County, VA.&nbsp; Upon marriage, she moved to Franklin County, KS and lived with her husband, raising her children on their farm.&nbsp; Elsie was a wonderful homemaker and enjoyed working in her beautiful garden and flowers.&nbsp; She could often be found working on some project at her house.&nbsp; She also enjoyed sewing and quilting, especially making her children and grandchildren’s clothes.&nbsp; She confirmed her faith in Jesus Christ and was baptized at a young age. She was a member of the Eight Mile Old German Baptist Brethren Church.She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Susie Bowman, and her husband, Leonard Wray.She is survived by two children, Ben Wray and his wife, Leah, of Pomona, KS, and Linda Jamison and her husband, Delbert, of Pomona, KS; three brothers, Jerry Bowman and his wife, Loretta, of Pendleton, IN, Harvey Bowman and his wife, Betty, of Brookville, OH, and Howard Bowman and his wife, Mildred, of Boones Mill, VA; seven grandchildren, Devin Wray and his wife, Hannah, of Ottawa, KS, Kaylene Steelman and her husband, Shane, of Ottawa, KS, Kristy Daniel and her husband, Carter, of Gardner, KS, Kara Wray of Roeland Park, KS, Michelle Jamison of Fort Worth, TX, Chelsea Mietchen and her husband, Evan, of Ottawa, KS, and Monica Jamison of Pomona, KS; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.&nbsp; Elsie was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.&nbsp; She always greeted you with a smile and will be lovingly remembered by her family and friends.Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 28, 2024 at the Eight Mile Old German Baptist Brethren Church, Centropolis, KS.&nbsp; To celebrate Elsie’s life, a visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, June 27, 2024 at Lamb-Roberts-Price Funeral Home, 325 S.
