Patricia “Pat” E. Helbach, 68, of Hope, passed away April 15, 2023.

She was born to Gladys and Ronald “Frosty” D. Clegg on June 4, 1954, in Superior, Nebraska. 

Pat graduated from Beloit High School in 1972.

Pat married her husband Hilton on June 4, 1972, and lived briefly in Herington before moving to Hope.&nbsp; 

She was a devoted wife and mother, her love for her family was unconditional and never wavered. Pat always looked for the good in people and was a source of great comfort and support to the people whose lives she touched.&nbsp; Her smile and sense of humor will be missed.&nbsp; Pat enjoyed sewing, gardening, spending time with her family, and was an avid Chiefs fan.

Pat is survived by her husband Hilton, sister Mari Tyler, and three children Mindy (Derek) Huston, Michael Helbach, and Margo Helbach.&nbsp; She is predeceased by her daughter Marcy Helbach, brother Michael Clegg, and her parents.

Graveside services were held on Friday April 21, 2023, at the Hope Cemetery.

Jesse V. Downs, 99, of Salina, passed away, Sunday, March 5, 2023 at Salina Regional Health Center.&nbsp; He was born in Industry, Kansas, to Jesse C. and Verna F. (Loader) Downs, on January 15, 1924.&nbsp; 

He graduated Salina High School in 1942 and joined the Army Airforce, that same year.&nbsp; He served for four years during World War II.&nbsp; 

On November 3, 1946, Jesse married Margaret Elizabeth Burk, in Wichita, Kansas.&nbsp; They were married and inseparable for 74 years. &nbsp;

He is survived by his children Cheryl Utech (James) of Manhattan, Stephen Downs (Rosalie) of Colorado Springs, and Greg Downs (Eileen) of Hutchinson; one sister, Doris Tuttle of Colorado Springs; grandchildren Kimberly Splawn (Robert), Melissa Kendall (Jeremy), Jesse A. Downs (Dana), Nancy Erickson (Lewis), James M. Utech (Lora), David Green (Kathleen); 14 great-grandchildren.

Graveside service will be Monday, May 1, 2023, in Roselawn Memorial Park, Salina. &nbsp;

Larry Lane&nbsp;was born on April 30, 1948, to Everton and Lillian (Christ) (Dowden) Lane, in Salina, Kansas. He passed away Thursday, March 2, 2023, surrounded by family in his home.

Larry suffered from COPD and had returned to his home under the care of Gentiva Hospice.

He graduated from Salina High School in 1967. 

He then was drafted into the Army during the Vietnam War. Larry returned to Salina after his service in 1972, where he began his career with the City of Salina, until his retirement in 2010. 

He was married to Neva (Davis) (Yeagley) on May 12, 1990. Larry spent much of his free time fishing and boating.

Larry is survived by his son Trenten (Hannah) Walters, Salina, and stepson Jared (Marie) Yeagley, of Wichita;&nbsp; sister Roma (Troy) Zachary, and brother Hal (Cindy) Lane, and sister-in-law Patricia Lane of Oklahoma; nephews Josh (Amanda) Lane, Jeremy (Lori) Lane, nieces Barbara Bauman, Belinda McDaniel, Stacy (Barry) Doyle, and Alyssa (Eric) Lane-Blancho; great-nieces and nephews, and his companion cat, Indiana Jones.

Larry is preceded in death by his parents Everton and Lillian Lane, his wife Neva Lane, brother Ronnie Lane, and nephew Eric Bauman.

A Celebration of Life will be held on a come-and-go basis, starting at 1 p.m., and ending at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 30, 2023, at Lakewood Discovery Center. We will focus on the fact that it would have been Larry’s 75th birthday, so we will be serving cake to celebrate.

Sandra Ann (Koelling) Elliott, a loving mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 21, 2023, in Beloit, KS, surrounded by her loving family. Sandy was born on June 4, 1945, in Abilene, KS. Sandy was the daughter of Herbert and Doris Koelling and grew up in a close-knit family, forming strong bonds with her siblings that lasted throughout her life.

Sandy attended Chapman High School, where she excelled academically and made many lifelong friends. 

Upon graduating, she married Larry Naumann in 1963, and to this union Steven and Wendy were born. This marriage later dissolved. Sandy later married James Elliott on December 24, 2000, and they made a loving home in Detroit, KS, until his passing on March 21, 2015. 

Following James' passing, Sandy moved to Beloit, KS, to be closer to her family.

Sandy was a dedicated and hardworking member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 240 of Chapman, KS. 

Her interests were varied, and she enjoyed many activities throughout her life. In her younger days, she loved riding a motorcycle.She enjoyed country music, but mostly cherished spending time with her children, family, and friends, especially during family gatherings and camping trips. She was a proud and loving grandmother who never missed an opportunity to attend her grandchildren's sporting events and other activities.

Sandy was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Butch, and her husband James Elliott.

Sandy is survived by her son Steven Naumann (Cheryl) of Kansas City, KS; her daughter Wendy Walker (Kurt Abell) of Beloit, KS; her grandchildren Josh Melton (Ana), Zach Melton (Brittany), Brennan Walker, Craig Hams, Heather Marx, Joshua Cochran, Christopher Hills, Ethan Prochaska, and Derryck Walker; nine great-grandchildren; her sisters Judy Wolf of Wichita, KS, Donna Blaylock of Moundridge, KS, and Shirley Koelling of Wichita, KS; and many nieces and nephews who will dearly miss her.

Sandy will always be remembered as a loving and caring person who touched the lives of everyone she met. She was loved by many who called her Momma or Grammy.&nbsp; Her warmth, kindness, and generosity will live on in the hearts and minds of those who were fortunate enough to know her.

Marlyce Ann Snay passed away on April 20, 2023. She was born May 12, 1938 to Howard and Merna Snay, Haven, Kansas. 

Marlyce graduated from Haven High School in 1956 and Grace Hospital School of Nursing, Hutchinson, in 1959. She worked as a registered nurse and later, as a certified registered nurse anesthetist. 

Her hobbies included intricate hand-needlework and she loved several dogs as precious pets. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 27, 2023 at Mount Hope Cemetery.

Marlyce was preceded in death by her father, Howard Snay in 2001, and by her mother, Merna Snay in 2020. 

She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Mary Ann and Fred Saenger, Hutchinson; sister Joyce Snay, Hutchinson; and seven loving nieces and nephews, Stephen Saenger, Merriam, Kansas, Gary and Stephanie Telleen, Haven, Kansas, Doug and Barbara Seibel, Mauldin, South Carolina, and Jeff and Kendra Bent, Austin, Texas.

Luella Schmidt, Moundridge, Kansas, died April 21, 2023 at the Moundridge Manor, Moundridge. She was 95 years old. Luella was born November 20, 1927, at Verden, Oklahoma, to William and Carrie (Nightingale) Schmidt. 

She moved with her parents to Burns, Kansas, in 1946, and later to Moundridge where she lived until her death. She was a member of the Meridian Mennonite Church at Hesston. 

Luella was a nurse and worked at area elder care homes for many years. 

Surviving are sisters Rosena (Gilmer) Koehn, Fairview, OK; LaWanda (Amos) Swarey, Burns, KS; Carol Swarey, Belleville, PA; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 26, 2023 at Meridian Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, Hesston. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m., Tuesday, April 25 at Moundridge Funeral Home, with a visitation to follow from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the church.

She was 95 years old. Luella was born November 20, 1927, at Verden, Oklahoma, to William and Carrie (Nightingale) Schmidt. She moved with her parents to Burns, Kansas, in 1946, and later to Moundridge where she lived until her death. She was a member of the Meridian Mennonite Church at Hesston. Luella was a nurse and worked at area elder care homes for many years. Surviving are sisters Rosena (Gilmer) Koehn, Fairview, OK; LaWanda (Amos) Swarey, Burns, KS; Carol Swarey, Belleville, PA; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 26, 2023 at Meridian Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, Hesston. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Mary Elizabeth Herr passed away at age 94, on April 19, 2023, in Hesston, Kansas. Mary was born on July 22,1928, in Plain City, Ohio, to Eli and Ida (Kaufman) Yutzy.

She married H. Eugene "Gene" Herr on May 21, 1955, in Kingview, Pennsylvania. 

She was preceded in death by her husband; and brothers, Earl Yutzy and Vernon Yutzy, who resided in Plain City. She attended primary and high school in Plain City. She graduated in 1949 (AA) and 1953 (BA) from Goshen College in Goshen, Indiana. Mary had a wonderfully diverse life and career that touched many people. From 1949-51 she taught at a one-room school in Plain City. In 1953, she moved to Chicago where she meet Gene while serving in the Mennonite Church’s Voluntary Service program.

After raising three children she returned to work outside the home, teaching Language Arts in Harper, Kansas, and Middlebury, Indiana, during the late 1960s to mid-1970s. From 1978-1982, she and Gene were co-directors of the Phoenix Discipleship and Service program sponsored by the Mennonite Board of Missions, and from 1982-1985 she served Director of Service Ministries at the Mennonite Board of Missions in Elkhart, Indiana. From 1985 through 2001, Mary and Gene established The Hermitage Retreat Center in Three Rivers, Michigan—a place where their vision and dreams came together. Located on 53 acres with a barn that was expertly repurposed by a local craftsman and family friend, it is a place for spiritual retreats and to connect with nature on wooded trails. After retiring in 2001, they spent five months in Belfast, Northern Ireland, working at the Columbanus Community of Reconciliation. They also traveled domestically and internationally. Through the years and across different roles and settings, Mary served and mentored others. She was a doting and loving mother and grandmother, a wonderful friend, and a chef known for keeping and starting family culinary traditions. She was also a gracious hostess and opened her home to countless visitors from throughout the world. Those experiences enriched her family and formed life-long relationships. She is survived by three children, son Phillip and his wife Maria of Olney, Maryland; son Karl and his wife Mary Lynne of Bayfield, Colorado; and daughter Ellen Awe and her husband Darryl of Wichita, Kansas. She has six granddaughters along with their respective spouses, Jessica McElhiney, Heather Herr, Alejandra Herr (Brian Boyd), Emily (Chris) Metcalf, Amber Vogts (Matt Wilder), and Avery Vogts (Ethan Oltean). She also has four great-grandsons, Oliver and Jack Metcalf, and Sebastian and Benjamin Boyd. Private family burial will take place at Eastlawn Cemetery, rural Hesston. Agnar “Ag” Sheldon Regier, 83, of McPherson, KS, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 22, 2023, at Brookdale Senior Living, McPherson.&nbsp; 

Ag worked as a maintenance technician at W-R Milling Company in McPherson for 41 years.

Ag was born on April 25, 1939, in McPherson, KS, the son of John James and Edna W. (Christensen) Regier.&nbsp; 

He graduated from McPherson High School.&nbsp; 

On February 13, 1960, Ag was united in marriage to Marlena Marie Clark in McPherson. &nbsp;This union was blessed with two sons, Randy and Jason.

Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Marlena; two sons, Randy (Jackie) Regier of McPherson, KS and Jason (Melissa) Regier of McPherson, KS; a sister, Merry Persinger of Derby, KS; seven grandchildren, Brittney (Brett) Jennings, John (Kristen) Regier, Tyler Regier, Shelby Regier, Camryn Regier, Alayna Colwell, and Owen Colwell; five great-grandchildren; and many extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings Charles Regier, Johnny Keith Regier, John “Jack” Regier, Shirley Rose Smith, and Betty Demieville.

She became a licensed insurance and real estate agent. She worked with Heinze and Associates, Land Home Title, Wilson and Associates, and Security First Title. 

She was a beloved sister, aunt, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.&nbsp;

Deb was preceded in death by her father Leonard Heinze; mother Lillian (Nunn) Heinze-Reinert; sisters-in-law Serena (Minear) Gaglardi and Mary (Minear) Maginness; and brother-in-law, Steve Minear.

Her memory will be cherished by her life companion Jay Minear (married November 15, 1986); children Jesse Minear (Katee), Meredith Minear (Nathan), Marti Bayles (Reed), and Cory Minear (Lacy); numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and siblings Greg Heinze (Kathy) of Salina, KS, Pat Biggs (Mike) of Barnard, KS, Jim Heinze (Lynn) of Apple Valley, MN, and Shelley (Minear) Buchanan of Arkansas.&nbsp;

Julie Ann Martin, 68, of Lawrence, Kansas passed away on Monday, April 10th, 2023 in her home after a two-and-a-half year battle with cancer. She was born July 10th, 1954 in Hiawatha, Kansas, the daughter of Jack and Katie Brandau. She graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1972 and Marymount College in 1976.

Julie is survived by her husband of 48 years, Jerry, daughter Jennifer (Bill) of Lawrence and sons Andrew (Monica) and Timothy of San Antonio, TX, brother Jeff (Cindy) of Tonganoxie. Julie was also blessed with five grandchildren, Matthew of San Antonio TX, Nate, Ty, Macy and Lukas of Lawrence.

She retired in 2022 from Schwegler Elementary School where she was an Administrative Assistant.

Julie is preceded in death by her parents Jack and Katie Brandau.

A Celebration of Life will be announced later.

Barbara Ellen (Brown) West, of Plainville, Kansas, entered into 
her heavenly home on April 20, 2023,  at the age of 73 after a 
courageous fight with pancreatic cancer.

She was born 
on December 27, 1949, in Natoma, Kansas, to Kenneth and Viola (Baum) 
Brown. She graduated from Plainville High School in 1968. After 
graduation, Barb went to beauty school in Salina, Kansas, and this was 
also where she met the love of her life, Larry.

Barb 
and Larry were united in marriage on July 2, 1971 in Plainville, Kansas,&nbsp; and were inseparable for the next 52 years. They were blessed with three
 children; a boy, Travis, who died 5 days after birth, and two 
daughters, Jenny and Jaymme. Barb was a secretary for many years for her
 husbands welding service as well as her parents oil business, Kenny 
Brown Enterprises. Later on, she worked as a receptionist and was known 
as "the voice" of Dessin Fournir.

Barb was a beautiful 
and sweet soul and a woman of faith. Her family was her pride and joy 
and everything she did revolved around them. Whether it was playing 
cards with them, making food for them, or traveling for her grandkids’ 
sporting events every weekend. She was the best wife, Mama, Grandma, 
teacher, and biggest supporter of all. Barb loved to be outdoors and 
spent many years outside planting flowers and going fishing. She was an 
excellent fisherwoman, even known to out-fish Larry. Barb also had a 
knack for crafting, making wreaths, and crocheting blankets to name just
 a few more things that she loved and truly did well.

 is survived by her husband, Larry of Plainville; daughters, Jennifer 
Lynne Plante, Plainville, Jaymme Marie (Grant) Arnold,  McPherson; Five 
grandchildren; Chelsey West, Hays, Taylor Meitler, Bonner Springs, Jared
 Plante (Marissa Befort), Plainville, Justin Plante (Emma Humphrey), 
Plainville, Dawson Arnold, Manhattan.  Three brothers; Kenny (Rhonda) 
Brown Jr., Zurich, Blaine (Amy) Brown, Plainville, Shayne (Tierra)

teacher, and biggest supporter of all. Barb loved to be outdoors and 
spent many years outside planting flowers and going fishing. She was an 
excellent fisherwoman, even known to out-fish Larry. Barb also had a 
knack for crafting, making wreaths, and crocheting blankets to name just

Sharon Lynn Scott Hauschild, 84, passed away peacefully April 18, 2023 in Oakley, KS. Sharon was born January 9, 1939 in Burr Oak, KS to Orville Scott and Marguerite Rouse Peters.&nbsp; Sharon was an adventurous child who loved running around with her stepbrothers and other kids.&nbsp; She graduated from Edgar High School (NE) in 1957 where she excelled in athletics.&nbsp;&nbsp; Shortly after high school, she followed her sister and brother-in-law to Oakley, KS where she met Howard Hauschild while working at The Little Cafe.&nbsp; The two were married November 30, 1958. Sharon and Howard always enjoyed outdoor activities including jeeping in Colorado and frequent trips to Cathouse Lakes. Sharon loved golf, playing cards, quilting and an occasional gambling trip to Las Vegas. She also enjoyed having a cocktail on the back porch or at the club with friends. Sharon was proud of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Sharon is survived by her daughter Lynn Baalman (Dave Matzinger); son Lane Hauschild (Stacy Wood); five grandchildren Kara Bohks (Jason), Lindsey Tremblay (Tyler), Oaklee Hauschild, Sara Wood and Morgan Wood; and four great-grandchildren Charlie, Calvin, Rocky and Ramsey; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary L. Gringere, 78, of Salina, passed away Wednesday, April 19, 2023.&nbsp; She was born April 8, 1945 in Salina, to Ralph W. and Mildred I. Miller.&nbsp; 

Mary worked at Mowery Clinic most of her adult life.&nbsp; After retirement, she worked in home health care because she enjoyed helping others in need.&nbsp; 

She attended 1st Church of the Nazarene, where she taught Sunday school for many years.&nbsp; She was also a board member and helped serve in many other areas.&nbsp;&nbsp; 

Mary enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.&nbsp; She was a gentle and kindhearted person who was always there for anyone.&nbsp; She loved the Lord and will spending eternity in heaven.

Survivors include her daughters Donna Morris (Rick) and Linda Davis, all of Salina, Ellie Watson (Scott) of Oroville, CA; grandchildren Brandon Funke, Caleb Davis, Deedra Andonie (Mike), Chase Davis, Brent Davis, Brandon Davis, Danielle Brown (Dustin), Troy Davis Jr., Tyler Paxton, and Kaile Black; great-grandchildren Camryn, Madi, Casyn, Zac, Bentlee, Glacier, Kady, and Noah; and brother Donald Miller.

She is preceded in death by her parents, and siblings Ralph E. Miller and Dorothy Williford.

Charles Richard Russell 76 of Beloit, Kansas, beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather died April 17, 2023. He was born December 31, 1946 to Carl H. and Dorothy A. (Anderson) Russell in the Concordia Hospital, Concordia, Kansas the 9th&nbsp;of 10 children.

He attended Courtland Elementary School and graduated from Courtland High School Class of 1965. He attended Beloit Vo Tech, Beloit, Kansas before being drafted into the Army in May 1967. He served in Fort Still in Oklahoma until he was transferred to Vietnam. He returned home in July 1968. He then went to work for Kansas Bostwick Irrigation District. In addition to that he farmed.

He married his High School sweetheart, Olive June Dunstan in Formoso, Kansas June 5, 1966. They are the parents of Lori, Jodi and Larry.

In later years he joined his wife in retail in Superior, Nebraska and then the two of them worked as sales reps covering the entire state of Nebraska until retiring in Beloit, Kansas.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, children Lori and Mike Stenson, Courtland, Kansas; Jodi and Adam Mosher, Beloit, Kansas and Larry Russell, Beloit, Kansas; eight grandchildren: Brittany Stenson, Cassidy Stenson, Leslie (Dan) Robinson, Riley Stenson, John (Sabrina) Mosher, Jared Mosher, Jeremy Mosher, Jayden Mosher; five great grandchildren: Khonor Craig, Maverick Mosher, Owen Mosher, Everleigh Mosher and Nash Mosher. Jeneane Anne (Halloran) Reid, of Courtland, KS, went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 14th, 2023, at the age of 77 years old.&nbsp;

Jeneane was born on December 26th, 1945, in Oneonta, New York, to parents William Paul Halloran and Ruth Vivian Halloran. She was raised alongside her older brother, Allen. 

She attended Worcester Schools and then moved to California where she graduated from Riverside Polytechnic High School in 1963. Later on, she attended Cobleskill College in New York.&nbsp;

She was united in marriage to Carlton Roscoe Reid on December 20th, 1963, in Ontario, California. She was the mother of four children: Daniel, Carla, Allison and Eric. They spent 33 years together before his passing in June of 1996.&nbsp;

Jeneane loved nothing more throughout her life than to help and work with children and those in need. She enjoyed baking, playing cards, anything coffee or chocolate flavored, and spending time with her family. Her laugh was contagious and she always knew how to bring joy to a room.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her brother, daughter, Carla, and one grandchild, August.&nbsp;

She is survived by her children Daniel Reid (Charlene) of Courtland, KS, Allison Huff (Corey) of Concordia, KS, and Eric Reid (Lacey) of Greeley, CO; grandchildren, Zakary Reid (Jordan), Raven Geisler (Clarence), Kiara Boling (Tara), Liah and Carter Huff, Kieran, Marley and Elise Reid; great-grandchildren Tiberius, Zayden and Nova Reid, and Jacob Geisler, along with many other cherished family members.&nbsp;

William "Bill" Eugene Kagle, Jr. Bill was born to William Eugene Kagle, Sr. and Kathleen June (Snyder) Kagle on October 20th, 1947, in Concordia, KS. He passed away peacefully at Marquis Place, Concordia, on April 20, 2023 at the age of 75.

&nbsp;Bill was a 1965 graduate of Concordia High School. 

After a brief time at Fort Hays State, he was drafted into the U.S. Army November of 1966 at the height of the Vietnam War. Due to an injury, he was honorably discharged November of 1968 with ranking of Sergeant (E-5). As a result of his service, Bill was awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Star Medal, Sharpshooter Weapons Qualification Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and the Combat Infantry Badge. 

Upon his discharge, Bill returned to Concordia and had long term employment with Scrivner- Boogaarts. During later years, he drove a mail truck to drop off points for rural carriers. Bill was also hired as extra help by many area farmers and friends. They likely enjoyed his help but more so the laughter and stories he shared.

Bill made friends easily with his infectious warm personality and great sense of humor. He enjoyed socializing with friends and family, fishing and sitting outdoors with a book in hand. He was an avid reader and could discuss many topics. 

Bill suffered the loss and heartache of his son Eli Wade Kagle in August of 2015. His joy was to watch grandson Sean Kagle grow up. 

In July of 2020, Bill suffered a life altering stroke and wanted care to be in Concordia. Marquis Place made this possible from December of 2020 until his passing.

&nbsp;Bill was preceded in death by his son Eli, parents Bill, Sr. and Kathleen, and great-nephew Clayton McGuire.

He is survived by grandson Sean Kagle and mother Tera McClure, both of El Dorado, KS; siblings Patsy Rasmussen (Robert), Cornville, AZ; Janet McKenna (Kenny), Oklahoma City, OK; Laura Hopkins- Cockroft (Richard), Bavaria, KS; Lonnie Kagle, Concordia, KS, along with three generations of nieces and nephews, numerous cousins, and Aunt Dorothy Snyder.

He passed away peacefully at Marquis Place, Concordia, on April 20, 2023 at the age of 75.&nbsp;Bill was a 1965 graduate of Concordia High School. After a brief time at Fort Hays State, he was drafted into the U.S. Army November of 1966 at the height of the Vietnam War. Due to an injury, he was honorably discharged November of 1968 with ranking of Sergeant (E-5). As a result of his service, Bill was awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Star Medal, Sharpshooter Weapons Qualification Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and the Combat Infantry Badge. Upon his discharge, Bill returned to Concordia and had long term employment with Scrivner- Boogaarts. During later years, he drove a mail truck to drop off points for rural carriers. Bill was also hired as extra help by many area farmers and friends. They likely enjoyed his help but more so the laughter and stories he shared.Bill made friends easily with his infectious warm personality and great sense of humor. He enjoyed socializing with friends and family, fishing and sitting outdoors with a book in hand. He was an avid reader and could discuss many topics. Bill suffered the loss and heartache of his son Eli Wade Kagle in August of 2015. His joy was to watch grandson Sean Kagle grow up. In July of 2020, Bill suffered a life altering stroke and wanted care to be in Concordia. John Steven “Steve” Petersen Jr., 77, passed away Tuesday, April 18,
 2023, in Hays, KS. He was born July 8, 1945, in Salina, KS to John 
Petersen Sr. and Virginia (Jorgensen) Petersen. Steve married Vicki 
Nelson in WaKeeney, KS on March 30, 1967. He retired as a heavy 
equipment operator for KDOT.

Steve is survived by his wife, Vicki Petersen of Lincoln, KS; son, 
Sean Petersen (Shawn) of Ellsworth, KS; sisters, Carla Petersen of Port 
Charlotte, FL and Wenny Plunkett of Salina, KS; step-grandchildren, 
Mitch Wolf (Tyler) of Kansas City, MO, Cheyenne Hellebust (Kaden) of 
Fairview, TX, Savannah Hellebust of Ellsworth, and Nash Hellebust of 
Ellsworth; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; brother-in-law, 
Richard Nelson (Karen) of Lucas, KS; and sister-in-law, Jan Leach (Tim) 
of Topeka, KS. He was preceded in death by his parents and 
brother-in-law, Dennis Nelson.

As most of you know Steve was an avid hunter and fisherman.&nbsp;He 
thoroughly enjoyed his and his family and friends’ time spent at Wilson 
Lake. He would often teach countless kids how to waterski after a 
morning spent fishing.&nbsp;He was always there for anyone who needed help 
and would give the shirt off his back or lend a hand to any task 
necessary.

As one friend put it… “All I can say is if you knew him he will be 
missed. And if you didn’t know him, you have no idea what you missed.”&nbsp;

Visitation: 4-7 p.m., Sunday, April 23, 2023, at Parsons Funeral Home – Hall Chapel, Lincoln.

Funeral service: 1:00 p.m., Monday, April 24, 2023, at Parsons 
Funeral Home – Hall Chapel with burial following at Lincoln Cemetery.

Cindy was born on March 4, 1987 in West Point, Mississippi, the daughter of Levi G. and Nancy Katie (Kanagy) Hoover. Cindy attended school at Hill and Dale Christian School of Dumas, Arkansas. She was united in marriage to Jared Keith Ratzlaff on January 26, 2014 in Dumas, Arkansas. Cindy was a member of the Lone Tree Church of God in Christ, Mennonite in rural Galva. She was a homemaker and worked in the food industry. Cindy previously worked in lawn care with her family business, Hoover’s Mowing Service. She was currently employed at the Tin Roof Pantry in Galva. She is survived by her husband Jared Ratzlaff of the home; parents Levi and Nancy Hoover of Dumas, AR; sisters Brenda (Sherwin) Koehn of Liberty, KY, June (Trent) Ratzlaff of Shenandoah, VA, Ruthy (Douglas) Unruh of Avera, GA, and Melissa (Austin) Loewen of Glenn, CA; brother Delton (Abby) Hoover of Dumas, AR; mother and father-in-law Lila and Keith Ratzlaff of Canton; sister-in-law Ashley (Ryan) Yoder of Homeworth, OH; aunts and uncles; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends. Cindy was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents Jacob and Lizzie (Peachey) Kanagy; and paternal grandparents Noah and Lizzie (Garman) Hoover.
