A man was arrested after allegedly assaulting a woman inside a home.

According to the Salina Police Department on the early morning of the 4th of July, a man allegedly assaulted a woman inside a Salina home in the 2800 block of Argonne. Police stated that the woman aged 31, got into an argument with the man identified as 30-year old,&nbsp;Rogelio Lopez De Lara Sanchez.&nbsp;

Police stated that during the argument, the woman was 'punched in the head area&nbsp;multiple times' by Sanchez. It was also reported that Sanchez began 'strangling' her.&nbsp;

Officers arrived to the home at around 1:30 am and took Sanchez into custody without incident. Sanchez is facing requested charges of&nbsp;Aggravated Domestic Violence Battery and Domestic Violence Battery.

Police reported that they were called about the incident when children who live in the home, went to a neighbor’s house to seek assistance.

There was no report given by police on what type of medical assistance was provided for the victim.

A letter to the editor is a written way of talking to a newspaper, magazine, or other regularly printed publication. Letters to the editor are generally found in the first section of the newspaper, or towards the beginning of a magazine, or in the editorial page. They can take a position for or against an issue, or simply inform, or both. They can convince readers by using emotions, or facts, or emotions and facts combined. 

Letters to the editor are usually short and tight, rarely longer than 300 words.

Using a few carefully placed letters, you can generate plenty of community discussion. You can also keep an issue going by preventing it from disappearing from the public eye. You can stimulate the interest of the news media and create more coverage for the matters you're working on. "We believe in the importance of mental health. We want to ensure our residents have access to the resources they need to stay healthy and thriving," said Saline County Health Officer Jason Tiller. "In my own personal experience with Cope Notes, I have found that the right messages seem to come at exactly the right time. It was been an uplifting experience for me, and I am thrilled we get to continue this service to our residents."

In 2022, Saline County initially offered the service for free to 300 residents. Because of the overwhelming response and in an effort to provide the service to more Saline County residents, the program is being offered at a 50 percent discount, according to information from the county.

Saline County continues to offer Cope Notes at 50-percent discount

Not seeing precipitation totals from your area after a rain or snow event? Consider becoming a CoCoRaHS volunteer.

"CoCoRaHS is an acronym for the Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow Network. CoCoRaHS is a unique, non-profit, community-based network of volunteers of all ages and backgrounds working together to measure and map precipitation (rain, hail and snow). By using low-cost measurement tools, stressing training and education, and utilizing an interactive website, our aim is to provide the highest quality data for natural resource, education and research applications," the organization noted on its website.

After rain, hail, or snow storms, CoCoRaHS volunteers take precipitation measurements. Those totals are then recorded on the CoCoRaHS&nbsp;<a href="https://www.cocorahs.org/ViewData/StateDailyPrecipReports.aspx?state=KS">website</a>&nbsp;(Kansas reporting).

The precipitation totals are used by various organizations and individuals, including the National Weather Service, other meteorologists, hydrologists, emergency managers, insurance adjusters, farmers and ranchers, and, of course, Salina Post.

Precipitation reporting organization seeks local, area volunteers

What’s worse than a bogus charity? A bogus charity with a dishonest fundraiser. The FTC has sued and stopped dishonest charity fundraisers that&nbsp;<a href="https://consumer.ftc.gov/consumer-alerts/2020/09/spot-and-stop-dishonest-charity-fundraisers">called people</a>&nbsp;to get them to donate to fake charities. Some prey on your kindness and desire to help people impacted by weather emergencies or a disaster. But when you get a call from a charity fundraiser, how do you know the caller is telling you the truth?

Ask the caller specific questions.

What is the charity’s name, phone number, or address? Write these down so you can confirm them later. Keep in mind that many charity names sound alike, and that sham charities often use names that are sound and look like names of legitimate charities.

How much of your donation will go directly to the programs you want to support?

Will your donation be tax-deductible? Not every call seeking a donation is from a charity. Some calls might be from Political Action Committees or other groups where donations are not deductible. See more questions to ask here.

Resist the pressure to donate on the spot.

After you’ve listened to the caller, hang up the phone and think about what they said. Then, go online and do your own research:

Search for the organization’s name and phone number, plus the word “scam” or “complaint.” What you find might help you decide if you want to make that donation.

Look up the organization’s name and address. Does it show up? If it doesn’t, that could be a sign the caller was lying to you.

FTC: How to spot and stop dishonest charity fundraisers

TOPEKA&nbsp;– The start of a new school year is an expensive time for families. If you are struggling to pay for phone and internet services, there are programs to help you stay connected.

During Digital Connectivity and Lifeline Awareness Week, the Kansas Corporation Commission joins utility regulators nationwide in encouraging those in need of assistance to apply for Lifeline and the Affordable Connectivity Program.&nbsp; Both programs help low-income individuals and families stay connected so they can access health care, attend classes, find employment, and call for help in an emergency.

Lifeline provides federal and state discounts up to $17.02 per month on phone service (wireless or residential) and broadband. Seven million Americans currently benefit from the program, including approximately 30,000 Kansans.

The Federal Communication Commission’s Affordable Connectivity Plan&nbsp; provides a monthly internet service discount of up to $30 and a one-time device discount of up to $100 for a laptop, desktop computer or tablet. According to FCC data, more than 20 million U.S. households are currently enrolled, including approximately 120,000 in Kansas.

Eligibility&nbsp;is based on income&nbsp;(at or below 135% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines for Lifeline and at or below 200% for Affordable Connectivity Plan)&nbsp;or participation in certain assistance programs&nbsp;such as:

•&nbsp;&nbsp;Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) •&nbsp; Medicaid, Supplemental Security Income (SSI) •&nbsp; Federal Public Housing Assistance (FHPA) •&nbsp; Veterans Pensions &amp; Survivors Pension Benefit •&nbsp; Bureau of Indian Affairs General Assistance •&nbsp; Tribally Administered Temporary Assistance for Needy Families •&nbsp; Head Start Tribal Programs (income based) •&nbsp; Food Distribution Program on Tribal Lands&nbsp;&nbsp;

Anyone who qualifies for Lifeline is automatically eligible to participate in Affordable Connectivity Plan. Others may still qualify for the plan if they meet any of the following criteria:

• Are approved to receive benefits under the free and reduced-price school lunch program or the school breakfast program, including the&nbsp;USDA Community Eligibility Provision.&nbsp; • Received a Federal Pell Grant during the current award year.&nbsp; • Meet the eligibility criteria for a participating broadband provider’s existing low-income program.&nbsp;

Due to higher income maximums, Affordable Connectivity Plan  also has the potential to help families that may not qualify for other types of assistance. The maximum income for a family of four to qualify for the&nbsp; program is&nbsp;$60,000 per year compared to $40,500 for Lifeline. Both Lifeline and Affordable Connectivity Plan offer additional discounts for subscribers living on tribal lands.

Plans available to help Kansans unable to pay for phone, internet services stay connected

This is day 9 of the Kansas Wheat Harvest Reports, brought to you by the Kansas Wheat Commission, Kansas Association of Wheat Growers, Kansas Grain and Feed Association and the Kansas Cooperative Council.

Kansas wheat farmers have been facing a challenging wheat harvest due to persistent rains on mature wheat. While test weights have suffered because of this, the 2025 crop has shown stronger yields than the past three drought-stricken years.

Officially, the Kansas wheat harvest is 82 percent complete, behind 90 percent complete last year but ahead of 77 percent average, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service crop progress report for the week ending July 6, 2025.&nbsp;

Josh Debes, a wheat farmer in northern Barton County, is among those still navigating the final stretch of harvest. Rainfall over the past week has forced Debes to chase dry fields across the county in hopes of finishing before another rain delay sets in. His wheat crop, already stressed by drought and a high incidence of wheat streak mosaic virus, is now facing quality declines due to the rain.

“We started with test weights at 60 pounds per bushel on our better fields,” Debes said. “But test weights have dropped since the wheat has been rained on.” Equally stressful has been a constant stream of equipment breakdowns that have kept one or both combines out of fields when Mother Nature has opened up a window for cutting.

Despite the setbacks, Debes expects to harvest&nbsp;more bushels this year than in either of the past two years, when extreme drought nearly wiped out his wheat entirely. “Morale is low, but at least we’ve got bushels to sell to cover the costs of getting this fall’s sorghum crop in the ground,” he added.

Jeff Boyd, CEO of Garden City Coop, reported that wheat harvest in their trade territory is 90 to 95 percent complete. Rains over the holiday weekend have slowed progress, and it may be another two days before combines can roll again in Finney County. Recent storms have also caused lodging in some fields.&nbsp;

Harvest began June 14 at their Hooker, Oklahoma, location. Boyd noted that test weights are averaging around 59 pounds per bushel, and protein levels are coming in at 11.8 percent. Overall, Boyd expects an average to above-average crop in terms of total bushels, with quality landing around average. Yields have ranged widely from the 30s to the 80s, with some of the strongest wheat coming from Finney and Lane counties. Yields have tended to decrease further north. The wheat streak mosaic virus complex has impacted yields and test weights in certain areas, while unusually high humidity has caused threshing issues with some varieties.

In Atchison County, Jay Armstrong wrapped up his Soft Red Winter wheat harvest on July 2 with a farm-wide average of 119 bushels per acre. Only 4.2% of wheat grown in Kansas is SRW, according to USDA/NASS’s winter wheat variety survey for 2025. While Armstrong reported good — but not exceptional — quality and test weights, the biggest challenge this season was getting the crop out between frequent rain delays. His harvested acres have already been planted to doublecrop soybeans.

Day 9: Kansas Wheat Harvest report

 In keeping with Christ Cathedral’s “Heart of the City” mantra, Mother Shay Craig and Cathedral staff are challenging their church family this summer to work more intentionally to reduce local food insecurity.

Since 1978, when late parishioner and local writer Jo Reed began to hand out sack lunches near the Iron Street bridge, Christ Cathedral has provided daily food to downtown neighbors in need. For the past seven years, Cathedral staff and members have prepared and distributed daily to-go or hot lunches.

The daily hot midday meals previously served at the Cathedral now are provided at Salina Grace Community Resource Center’s newer location on Broadway. The number of Welcome Table meals served in 2024 numbered 14,018 - almost 3,000 more meals that the 10,175 served in 2023.

For 2025, the number of meals served will likely reach 18,000 to 20,000.

“It has been a true blessing to see how our Welcome Table efforts and leadership has grown in the last three years,” says Cathedral office administrator and Welcome Table chef/coordinator Crissy Cook. “The Welcome Table program helps us connect and build community.” Adds Cathedral dean Shay Craig, who tracks food insecurity and other key issues as part of her leadership within the Episcopal Church, “Christ tells us to show our love by feeding his sheep and we are doing just that, and we are inviting others to join us in that high-impact effort.”

Families, individuals, businesses or nonprofits interested in supporting the Welcome Table may donate usable day-old or fresh foodstuffs directly to Christ Cathedral, where the hot lunches are prepared, weekdays 9 to 11 a.m., or to Salina Grace, 315 S. Broadway Blvd., from 11:30am to 12 noon Monday to Friday.

To make a financial donation, give a gift earmarked for “The Welcome Table” to the Cathedral. Those wishing to adopt a day or week to underwrite all needed hot lunches for that time, may donate $120 to sponsor a day or $600 for an entire week, to feed about 80 people a day.

For the last three years, Crissy Cook has ordered all daily-meal foodstuffs, which the Cathedral fully underwrites. She plans and does the daily cooking for each midday meal, which is served three days a week by Cathedral staff or volunteers. Other area churches that also serve the hot lunches are First Presbyterian and Sunrise Presbyterian Church.

On-site volunteers say many Welcome Table participants know each other by name, caring for one another on and off-site. Services that Salina Grace guests can utilize on-site include those of Central Kansas Foundation and other entities. The Salina Grace day shelter most recently added shower and laundry facilities, plus a clothes closet.

“Along with feeding our flock spiritually, the Cathedral understands the practical aspect of nourishing body and spirit,” says Craig. “We feel these ministries go hand-in hand, as the Cathedral continues its 120-year+ legacy as a responsive downtown partner and good neighbor.”

Downtown Salina church works to reduce area food insecurity

TOPEKA - This afternoon, the Kansas Corporation Commission (KCC) approved two settlement agreements which allow Evergy Kansas Central (EKC) to recover the cost of three new generation facilities intended to meet increasing electric demand and improve reliability. 

Last fall, the utility announced plans to build two gas plants and a solar facility. Evergy filed an application with the Commission in November, requesting a determination of how costs incurred will be recovered from customers.

The application generated a great deal of interest. In addition to Evergy and Commission Staff, 31 parties sought and were granted the right to intervene and formally participate in the proceedings. As a result of their work, the Commission was presented with two settlement agreements for consideration: a unanimous settlement agreement regarding the solar facility, and a non-unanimous settlement agreement on the gas plants.

Evergy is proposing the new solar facility (Kansas Sky) to be located in Douglas County and owned 100% by Evergy Kansas Central. The estimated cost of construction is $228.1 million. After careful review, the Commission found the unanimous settlement agreement related to Kansas Sky was supported by substantial, competent evidence, will result in just and reasonable rates, and is in the public interest.&nbsp; In making this finding, the Commission found the arguments regarding resource diversification compelling.&nbsp; To date, very little utility-scale solar generation has been successfully developed in Kansas, and the profile and attributes of solar energy, if developed, will be complimentary to existing generation in the region, including wind generation.

Evergy’s gas plant proposal calls for two 710 MW combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) plants. The Viola plant will be located near Evergy’s Viola Substation in Sumner County and is expected to operate by January 1, 2029. The McNew plant will be built in Reno County and is expected to operate by January 1, 2030. Evergy Kansas Central and Evergy Missouri West will each have 50% ownership in the gas plants. The cost of construction to Evergy Kansas Central is estimated at $788.75 million for the Viola plant and $800.52 million for the McNew plant.

The Commission finds approving the CCGT Settlement is in the public interest.&nbsp; The Commission believes the CCGT Settlement is an efficient and reliable plan to add generation capacity to Evergy’s fleet.&nbsp; Furthermore, the Commission believes the CCGT Settlement contains sufficient safeguards and guardrails to protect customers in the event of cost overruns.

The CCGT settlement will not immediately impact rates. Other than the Construction Work in Progress (CWIP) rider recently authorized by the Legislature, which Evergy can begin utilizing 365 days after construction begins on each plant, no other costs will be added to rates until Evergy files a subsequent rate case.

The frequency of rate cases is also addressed by the Commission in today’s order.

“The Commission is troubled by the frequency and magnitude of rate cases and strongly encourages Evergy to focus on pacing investment to better align with load growth and mitigate large rate increases. The Commission understands new investment is needed to support reliability and economic development in Kansas. However, affordability must be a major priority and proactively pursued as Evergy addresses a seemingly endless list of “justifiable” projects and initiatives. To meet future capacity needs, for example, the Commission will expect Evergy to demonstrate its serious consideration of less capital-intensive options like demand response, utilization of surplus interconnection sites and grid-enhancing technologies.”

According to Facebook post from Saline County, a testing of outdoor warning sirens will occur today (Monday, July 7th) at 4:00 PM.

Saline County states that sirens are meant to warn people who are outside to go indoors and get more information. The encourage other to be sure to have other ways to get weather alerts, like a weather app or a NOAA radio.

Three suspects from July 2025 Most Wanted list arrested 

It’s a busy time for farmers in Kansas, with wheat harvest underway. The Kansas Highway Patrol would like to remind motorists to use more caution and patience when traveling around farm trucks, tractors, combines, and other implements.

“With wheat harvest season beginning, you’ll see heavy farm implement and truck traffic moving in and out of Kansas wheat fields and on to Kansas roadways. It’s important to remember that traveling around these vehicles requires extra caution. By taking your time and giving farm and heavy equipment plenty of room on the roadways, you can help ensure that yourself, your loved ones, and our Kansas farmers all make it home safely,” said Captain Stephen La Row, Kansas Highway Patrol.

Most farm equipment is not designed to travel at highway speeds and may only travel 15-25 mph. Farm equipment is often wider than the lane of traffic, so extra room should be allowed when sharing the road. Caution should be practiced on all roads, but especially on busy rural roads with unmarked intersections.

KHP reminds drivers to be safe on Kansas roads during harvest

A Colorado man was arrested after allegedly breaking a window of a convenience store with a hammer in Salina.

According to the Saline County Sheriff's Office on the 4th of July, a 38-year old man named Nathan Seltzer who is from Aurora, CO went to the Singh Travel Plaza (2124 N. Hedville Rd.) and allegedly 'broke a window with a hammer.' The convenience store was closed when he broke the window at around 7:00 pm and according to the Sheriff's Office, Seltzer was 'frustrated' that the store was closed.

Seltzer then walked away, but the owners of the&nbsp;convenience store were still inside when the crime occurred. The owners went out to confront him and one of them reportedly 'took the hammer' from Seltzer and stated they would call the police.&nbsp;

Sheriff Roger Soldan stated that Seltzer then 'pushed' the owner that had the hammer, retrieved it and threatened both of the owners as he was 'swinging the hammer' towards them.

Saline County deputies arrived to the scene shortly after the owners called about the incident. They then arrested Seltzer who was still in the area.

He is facing requested charges of Criminal Damage to Property, Battery and Aggravated Assault.

Colorado man arrested for breaking a convenience store's window in Salina

A woman was cited by the Sheriff's Office after allegedly shooting fireworks towards a grassfield and catching it on fire.

According to the Saline County Sheriff's Office on the 4th of July at around 6:00 pm, deputies arrived to a field that was fire in the area of the 3000 block of E. Cloud.

Allegedly, a 47-year old woman of Salina was driving when she pulled over in the area and shot fireworks towards the field, catching it on fire. She was cited for the incident.

Saline County Rural Fire District extinguished the fire and there were no reports of any injuries.

An unknown suspect allegedly stole over $5,000 worth of allergy medication from a store and is currently being sought out by Salina Police.

According to the Salina Police Department on Saturday, July 5th at around 4:45 pm, employees from Sam's Club (2919 Market Pl.) reported to police about a theft that occurred. Allegedly, at 4:00 pm a Hispanic man entered the store, 'picked up a 40-gallon tub and went to the allergy medicine aisle.

Furthermore, the man&nbsp;began putting numerous boxes of Zyrtec, Flonase, Allegra and Nasacort boxes in the tub. The man then walked out of the store and was last seen getting into a white Toyota 4-Runner, leaving the store.

It was estimated that over&nbsp;$5000 worth of allergy medications were stolen.

MANHATTAN, Kan.&nbsp;–&nbsp;Kansas State junior linebacker&nbsp;Austin Romaine&nbsp;and senior tight end&nbsp;Will Swanson&nbsp;earned nods on the 2025 Preseason All-Big 12 team as voted on by media representatives who cover the league, the conference office announced Monday.

Both players are coming off All-Big 12 seasons as Romaine earned second-team honors and Swanson was an honorable mention pick.

A product of Hillsboro, Missouri, Romaine played in every game a year ago with 12 starts, leading the team with 96 tackles to go along with 7.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, three forced fumbles and two pass breakups. He tied for fifth in the Big 12 in forced fumbles and finished ninth in tackles as he also earned All-Big 12 Second Team accolades from the Associated Press.

Romaine tallied the most tackles in a season by a Wildcat since Jayd Kirby had 99 in 2017 thanks to at least five stops in 11 games, including a career-high 12 tackles at West Virginia, Houston and Iowa State. His first in the line of 12-tackle performances against the Mountaineers were the most by a Wildcat in a single game since Daniel Green had 13 at Baylor in 2020.

Swanson, who was named to the Preseason All-Big 12 team as a fullback/H-Back, made four starts among his 13 games played last season, hauling in nine receptions for 66 yards and three touchdowns. He tied for sixth among Big 12 tight ends in receiving touchdowns, helping the K-State tight end unit to a nation-best 13 touchdowns. A native of Papillion, Nebraska, Swanson was also a vital part of a K-State ground attack that ranked second nationally and first in the Big 12 in rushing yards per carry (6.08) in addition to ranking 11th&nbsp;in the country and second in the conference in rushing yards per game (215.5).

K-State’s Romaine, Swanson Named to Preseason All-Big 12 Team

LAWRENCE, Kan. –&nbsp;Kansas football redshirt senior Bryce Foster was named Preseason All-Big 12 Team, the Big 12 Conference announced on Monday.

The honor marks Foster’s first Preseason All-Big 12 designation, after being named to the All-Big 12 Second Team following the 2024 season.

Foster, a native of Katy, Texas,&nbsp;enters his redshirt senior season after starting all 12 games and paving the way for 211.4 rushing yards per game and allowing just 10 sacks as a unit in 2024. Following the 2024 football season, Foster earned Second Team All-America honors in the shot put at the 2025 NCAA Track and Field Outdoor Championships, as part of the Kansas track and field team.

Foster arrived at Kansas following three seasons at Texas A&amp;M, starting 28 games and being named to the 2021 SEC All-Freshman Team, 2021 FWAA Freshman All-America Team and the 2021 The Athletic Freshman All-America First Team.

Foster is Kansas’ sole representative on the Preseason All-Big 12 team, while Arizona State’s Sam Leavitt was named the Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, Texas Tech’s Jacob Rodriguez was named Preseason Defensive Player of the Year and Utah’s Devon Dampier was named Preseason Newcomer of the Year.

Bryce Foster Named to Preseason All-Big 12 Team

KANSAS CITY, Mo.—Major League Baseball announced today the rosters for the 2025 All-Star Game, which will be played on Tuesday, July 15 at Truist Park in Atlanta, Ga. The American League team will feature two Royals players, including shortstop&nbsp;Bobby Witt Jr.&nbsp;and left-handed pitcher&nbsp;Kris Bubic, who were selected by the Commissioner’s Office.

This will mark Witt Jr.’s second straight All-Star Game, after he was elected by the players last season. The 25-year-old entered today with a Major League-most 30 doubles and tied for 2nd in the American League with 24 stolen bases, ranked 3rd with 104 hits and 44 extra-base hits and 5th with 173 total bases. Witt Jr. is just the second Royals shortstop to be named an All-Star multiple times, following three-time All-Star&nbsp;Fred Patek&nbsp;(1972, 1976, 1978).

Witt Jr.’s 30 doubles entering today are tied for the 2nd most by a Royals player before the All-Star break and trail only&nbsp;Mike Sweeney, who had 35 doubles before the break in 2001. In fact, Witt Jr. is the fourth Major League player to record at least 30 doubles, 20 stolen bases and 10 home runs before the All-Star break, following&nbsp;Ian Kinsler&nbsp;(2008),&nbsp;Alfonso Soriano&nbsp;(2002) and&nbsp;Chris Sabo&nbsp;(1988).

Witt Jr. entered today with 13 Outs Above Average on defense, 2nd in the American League at all positions.

Bubic, 27, is an All-Star for the first time this season thanks to a 2.36 ERA (27 ER in 103.0 IP) through 17 starts, which ranked 6th in the American League entering today, behind&nbsp;Hunter Brown&nbsp;(1.82),&nbsp;Max Fried&nbsp;(2.13),&nbsp;Jacob deGrom&nbsp;(2.13),&nbsp;Tarik Skubal&nbsp;(2.15) and&nbsp;Garrett Crochet&nbsp;(2.34).

Bubic’s 2025 season has been highlighted by, among other things, a banner month of May, in which he was named American League Pitcher of the Month. Bubic went 3-0 in 5 May starts with an American League-best 0.56 ERA (2 ER in 32.1 IP), which was the best mark in the month of May in Royals history (min. 5 starts) and was the 3rd best in any month, trailing only&nbsp;Zack Greinke’s&nbsp;0.50 ERA (2 ER in 36.0 IP) in April 2009 and Greinke’s 0.55 ERA (2 ER in 33.0 IP) in September 2009.

Bubic has recorded 11 quality starts (T-6th in the AL) in 17 outings and has induced 13 groundball double plays (T-4th in the AL). He has made 10 starts this season in which he’s recorded at least 6.0 innings and allowed 2 earned runs or fewer and has made 5 starts in which he’s completed 7.0 innings and allowed 1 run or fewer.

Bubic has allowed just 6 home runs in 103.0 innings for a 0.52 HR/9, 2nd best in the American League entering today.

Bobby Witt Jr. and Kris Bubic Selected to 2025 All-Star Game

PHOENIX (AP) — Michael Lorenzen struck out seven in seven dominant innings, Bobby Witt Jr. homered and the Kansas City Royals beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 4-0 on Sunday.

Lorenzen (5-8) kept the Diamondbacks off-balance all afternoon with a mix of mid-90s fastballs and changeups. He struck out the side in the first inning and didn’t allow a hit until Randal Grichuk’s two-out double in the fifth.

Lorenzen allowed two hits and walked one.

Witt hit a solo homer off Anthony DeSclafani (0-1) in the fifth inning to extend his team-record road hitting streak to 26 games. Salvador Perez also hit a solo homer in the Royals' fourth win in six games.

Arizona had three hits and didn't get a runner past second base to lose for the fourth time in five games.

Witt's homer with one out in the fifth — hit 12th of the season — was the first hit off DeSclafani. Perez followed with his 10th later in the inning.

John Rave chased DeSclafani with a run-scoring single in the fifth inning and Kyle Isbel followed with another to put Kansas City up 4-0.

DeSclafani allowed four runs on four hits and struck out six in four innings.

Witt's homer in the fifth was the first hit by either team.

Witt's road hitting streak ties for the second-longest in the last 10 years, behind the 32-game streak by the Dodgers' Trea Turner from 2021-22. Marcus Semien also had a hit in 26 straight road games for Toronto in 2021.

Kansas City LHP Noah Cameron (2-4, 2.56 ERA) pitches the opener of a three-game home series against Pittsburgh on Monday night. Arizona RHP Zac Gallen 6-9, 5.45) opens a four-game series at San Diego on Monday night.

⚾ Lorenzen dominant, Witt homers in Royals win over Diamondbacks

WICHITA, Kan. (July 6, 2025)—Ricardo Olivar ties the franchise individual RBI record with seven in a 15-13 Wichita Wind Surge win over the Tulsa Drillers at Equity Bank Park. After trailing 7-0 in the bottom of the first, the Wind Surge completed the biggest comeback in the history of the team to round out Independence Day Weekend.&nbsp;

The first inning saw 12 total runs on nine combined hits over 40 minutes. Tulsa put up seven tallies in the top of the first on four hits and an error as 10 men came to the plate to open the afternoon. The big swings of the frame were a two-RBI single to center from Kyle Nevin and a two-run blast to left field by Sean McLain.&nbsp;

Kala’i Rosario smoked a grand slam, his second salami of the season, down the left field line in the home half of the first. Jose Salas doubled to the wall in right field to score Ben Ross and change the score to 7-5 Drillers, though Tulsa got a run back in the top of the second on a sacrifice fly to center from Nevin.&nbsp;

Olivar crushed a game-tying three-run home run in the bottom of the second inning, and then Walker Jenkins singled to right for the lead in the next frame, with Ross scoring for the second time in the game, 9-8 Wichita.&nbsp;
