I’m Doug Rempp, I have filed for one of the 3 City Commissioner seats in the Nov 4th Election. Many of you will know me as Mr. McDonalds or the McDonald’s guy. I had the Franchise in Salina from late 1995 till 2017. I have had a residence in Salina for almost 30 years. Upon retirement my wife of 43 years, JoAnne and I spent a few months in the winter in AZ. I’m not a big fan of cold weather. We did make AZ our primary home for a couple years but a family need brought us back to Salina in 2022. We have a son and daughter that both live in Salina and grandkids that attend school in Salina.&nbsp;

During my years in Business I have dealt with the City a lot. Some good to deal with, others not so much. Probably one of the more memorable visits from the City happened about a decade ago. The 4th of July was on a Saturday I think. I purchased a hundred 18” American flags and put 1 every 10 feet around the Crawford and Ohio McD’s. Within 2 hours I had a City Official visit telling me we needed to remove the flags. They were considered an “Attention getting device.”

I have always listened to my employees and my customers. I have never shied away from work and never felt&nbsp; a job or task beneath me. I have made many financial decisions over a million dollars many times. Decisions that I had to live with and pay for. The business payroll was a ¼ million dollars every other week. I’m not sure how many of our current commissioners have had to sweat making payroll or go without pay as business expenses come 1st. The way they spend taxpayer money can be irritating.&nbsp;

The Cozy Inn was the deciding factor for me to put my name on the Ballot. Seems to me that just 1 of the Commissioners could have gotten personally involved in this and found a solution. I have seen the current Commissioners develop and approve a variance to code at their normal meetings. The Cozy is a 103 year old Business in our Community. I think it would have been very easy to carve out a variance to code. Instead, we probably will spend a million dollars fighting them and get negative attention across the state and beyond.

A lot of great things have happened in Salina over the last 30 years. I am not against growth. Just the opposite. It’s just my thought that the taxpayers of the City should not have to subsidize new businesses. For example the Mall as it relates to a 146 million perhaps subsidy to redo the Mall. I don’t think that is fair to other retailers in town. Especially those on the South end. A business could be “Poached” from Mid States Plaza to a new space at the Mall. Same with Restaurants. If an existing Restaurant loses just 10% of their sales, they may lose 30-40% of their profits.&nbsp;

I’m not opposed to the great things that have happened downtown. I’m not opposed to a new parking garage and Hotel. In this case, the bulk of the business could come from another hotel they own just a couple hundred yards away.&nbsp;

The need that brought us back to Salina has sadly passed. Salina will be our primary home for the foreseeable future. My wife and I did buy a Townhome in Az earlier this year. We do plan on using it for a few months over the winter. I have committed to traveling back for a meeting a&nbsp;month minimum when we are away for a few months. Less than ideal but doable. A commissioner was zooming in at the last meeting I attended. 

I think what I bring to the commission offsets me having to Zoom a few meetings annually. Your call Salina, just please be sure to vote come Nov 4th.

Meet City Commission Candidate: Doug Rempp

WASHINGTON (AP) —&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/hub/us-supreme-court">A majority of Supreme Court</a>&nbsp;justices on Tuesday seemed likely to side with a Christian counselor challenging bans on LGBTQ+ “conversion therapy” for kids as a violation of her First Amendment rights.

Kaley Chiles, with support from President&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/shutdown-health-care-subsidies-obamacare-congress-10b2ae9648bc5252fc2bd485ddc83493">Donald Trump’s</a>&nbsp;administration,&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/supreme-court-transgender-athletes-title-ix-schools-3871f87d332fb229c07ad16aa3d3cca8">argues the laws passed in Colorado</a>&nbsp;and about half of U.S. states wrongly bar her from offering voluntary, faith-based therapy for kids.

Colorado, on the other hand, says its measure simply regulates licensed therapists by barring a practice that’s been scientifically discredited and linked to serious harm.

But the court's conservative majority didn't seem convinced that states can restrict talk therapy aimed at changing feelings or behavior while allowing counseling that affirms kids identifying as gay or transgender. Justice&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/alito-supreme-court-deport-trump-venezuelans-dissent-300f6ca71758f05d7518b69af58ad418">Samuel Alito</a>&nbsp;said the law “looks like blatant viewpoint discrimination.”

The case blends two trends in the recent decisions of a court that's backed several claims of&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/supreme-court-lgbtq-books-religion-maryland-schools-c0b0fb4b96531636fcb98b08aabc3cf9">religious discrimination</a>&nbsp;and taken a&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/supreme-court-transgender-health-care-trump-79fc6f3bbdab2e92d6f0184201a468a9">more skeptical view</a>&nbsp;in LGBTQ rights cases.

State says therapy is health care and subject to

Colorado has not sanctioned anyone under the 2019 law, which exempts religious ministries, and argues the measure still allows for wide-ranging faith-based conversations. State attorneys say that therapy is health care, and that Colorado can regulate it to make sure therapists are upholding high standards of care.

“Providers have a duty to act in their patients’ best interest and according to their professional standards. The First Amendment affords no exception,” Colorado Solicitor General Shannon Stevenson said.

Justice&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/supreme-court-justice-gorsuch-book-over-ruled-3bdd27fe9dd50e39bffd6eef030ad24f">Neil Gorsuch</a>, though, questioned whether their argument could have been used to restrict pro-LGBTQ therapy in previous decades, when the mainstream medical view was different. “What if a state back then might have passed a law prohibiting talk therapy that affirmed homosexuality?”

Chiles contends her approach is different from the kind of conversion therapy once associated with practices like shock therapy decades ago. She said she believes “people flourish when they live consistently with God’s design, including their biological sex,” and she argues evidence of harm from her approach is lacking.

Her attorneys argue the bans make it difficult for parents of kids who think they might be transgender to find a therapist willing to work on gender identity unless the counseling affirms transition.

“Ms. Chiles is being silenced, and the kids and families who want her help are unable to access it,” said attorney James Campbell. Violating the law carries potential fines of $5,000 and license suspension or even revocation.

The Republican administration argued the Colorado law suppresses therapists' speech, and should be subject to the higher legal standard of strict scrutiny, one that few measures pass.

Justice&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/supreme-court-barrett-book-abortion-trump-138235228eb4b164fe2061a4a39a2f0a">Amy Coney Barrett</a>&nbsp;suggested that malpractice suits could address claims of harm linked to “conversion therapy."

Families who have spoken publicly in favor of restrictions include Linda Robertson, a Christian mom of four from Washington state whose&nbsp;<a href="https://justbecausehebreathes.com/">son Ryan</a>&nbsp;underwent therapy that promised to change his sexual orientation after he came out to her at age 12. The techniques led him to blame himself when it didn’t work, leaving him ashamed and depressed, she said. He died in 2009, after multiple suicide attempts and a drug overdose at age 20.

“What happened in conversion therapy, it devastated Ryan’s bond with me and my husband,” she said. “And it absolutely destroyed his confidence he could ever be loved or accepted by God.”

Chiles is represented by Alliance Defending Freedom, a conservative legal organization that has appeared frequently at the court in recent years. The group also represented a Christian website designer who doesn’t want to work with same-sex couples and&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/supreme-court-gay-rights-website-designer-aa529361bc939c837ec2ece216b296d5">successfully challenged</a>&nbsp;a Colorado anti-discrimination law in 2023.

The group's argument in the conversion therapy case also builds on another victory from a 2018 Supreme Court decision, which found that California could not force state-licensed anti-abortion crisis pregnancy centers to provide information about abortion. Chiles should also be free from that kind of state regulation, the group argued.

The high court agreed to hear the case after the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Denver upheld the law. Another Atlanta based appeals court, the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, has struck down similar bans in Florida.

Legal wrangling has continued elsewhere as well.&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/wisconsin-conversion-therapy-supreme-court-5417fcaf451d31730a65a7387117b32e">In Wisconsin</a>, the state's highest court recently cleared the way for the state to enforce its ban. Virginia officials, by contrast, have agreed to scale back the enforcement of its law as part of an agreement with a faith-based conservative group that sued.

🎧 Conversion therapy for LGBTQ+ minors before the Supreme Court

I am running for Salina City Commission because, like so many of the people I have had the pleasure of speaking with have said to me: The citizens (as a whole) as I am, are tired of what appears to be wasteful spending, lack of transparency and the citizens’ voices not being heard. Many in our community feel that the current&nbsp; commissioners listen more to the city department heads instead of the citizens that&nbsp; elected them.&nbsp;

I was born, raised and educated in Kansas and I am a fourth generation Kansan. After graduating from high school in 1978, I enlisted in the military. I served 25 years in total in the Army, Army Reserve and Air National Guard, with just over 20 years of active service. I served in Germany, Denmark, Korea, Saudi Arabia and numerous stateside assignments. I retired from Smoky Hill ANG range serving as the Assistant Operations and the Flight Scheduler. The many additional duties that I had were Airspace manager, Trainer and Mobilization Sergeant for the Range. I retired in January 2005 and I received a second Meritorious Service Medal.&nbsp;

After retiring from the military, I worked for KDOT as an equipment operator for a short time&nbsp; before going to work for the Railroad as a rail car repairer and worked as a outbound air test and train inspector at Herington, KS. 

I decided to return to formal education the fall of 2006 and quit the railroad, working as a welder/fabricator while attending college full time. I received my BS in Management and Ethics from Manhattan Christian College July 2008.&nbsp; After finishing college, I worked at Fort Riley at the airfield as an airfield operations&nbsp; specialist. Then I worked at the Fort Riley railhead teaching rail loading and aircraft pallet&nbsp; loading to soldiers and DOD civilians until I returned to railroading. This time, I worked as a&nbsp; conductor and engineer until 2014 when an injury ended my railroading career.&nbsp;&nbsp;

After recovering from my injury, I visited Salina Area Technical College to see about taking&nbsp; classes and was asked to apply for a Welding Instructor position for the night welding&nbsp; program. I was hired and started work for SATC and worked for three years until the night&nbsp; welding program was terminated. I then went to work for a private railcar repair facility in&nbsp; the Inbound Inspector and job estimator department. While in that position I worked with&nbsp; the Quality Assurance manager and customer service manager. I missed teaching and&nbsp; found a position with Hutchinson Community College and worked for HCC from Aug 2017&nbsp; until my retirement in 2022. While working in that position, I put together a welding&nbsp; program at the Hillsboro, KS facility that took it from 12 students&nbsp;from three separate area high schools to 25 students a day from six different area high schools.&nbsp;

In those five years I&nbsp; worked with the local industries to ensure that our curriculum was not only in line with&nbsp; state requirements but also met the American Welding Society universal standards. 

During&nbsp;my five years at HCC, I sent teams to NCK welding competition four times, winning first,&nbsp; second and third place team finishes. I worked with our grant writers to get grants for our&nbsp; program to purchase the latest equipment that industry used in manufacturing.&nbsp;&nbsp;

I retired from working full time in July 2022 and shortly afterward started working with&nbsp; assisting local veterans with VA assistance. As a result of that work, we have started the&nbsp; Salina Area Veterans Assistance Group and to date have helped over 100 local veterans&nbsp; and families of veterans receive some type of assistance.&nbsp;&nbsp;

I am married to the former Sally S. Lai of Hong Kong, and we have three children and 10&nbsp; grandchildren between us.&nbsp;

I am a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association and a member of the Gun Owners&nbsp; of America.&nbsp;

I enjoy spending time with family, fishing and traveling around our country seeing the&nbsp; greatness of Kansas and the United States.&nbsp;

If I am elected, I will work hard to make sure that our city government is transparent&nbsp; and accountable to our citizens. I will work with our city manager to ensure that all city departments will do all that they can to work with small business owners. I will&nbsp; not forget that as a commissioner I work for the citizens, and the city manager works for city commission.&nbsp;

Governor Laura Kelly has announced the launch of her statewide listening tour, "The People’s Budget." 

Throughout the fall, Governor Kelly will travel to 8 communities across Kansas to host town hall events where she will speak directly with Kansans, gathering their priorities for the state’s budget ahead of the 2026 legislative session.

“Today, I’m launching The People’s Budget tour, because Kansans should know and have a say in where their hard-earned taxpayer dollars are going,”&nbsp;Governor Laura Kelly said.&nbsp;“My administration has been laser-focused on building a strong fiscal foundation for our state. According to the Kelly administration, each January, the Governor presents a balanced budget proposal to the Kansas Legislature that outlines investments in education, health care, infrastructure, public safety, and other key areas. Moreover, the Kansas Legislature disregarded Governor's budget proposal, "opting to craft its own budget" according to the Kelly administration.

THE TOP 51)&nbsp;Following a heartbreaking 35-34 loss at Baylor, Kansas State looks to regroup as it returns home this week in Big 12 play with TCU visiting Bill Snyder Family Stadium. The Homecoming game kicks off at 2:30 p.m., and will be shown on FOX with Tim Brando (play-by-play), Devin Gardner (analyst) and Josh Sims (sidelines) on the call.

2)&nbsp;Five of K-State’s first six games this year have been decided by one score as the first three games were by a field goal, its game at Arizona was a six-point loss and last week’s game at Baylor was a one-point loss. The Wildcats are the only team in the nation to already have five games decided by one possession. They were 4-2 last season when the final margin was eight or less points and are 1-4 this season.

3)&nbsp;Quarterback Avery Johnson is set to make his 21st-career start under center having thrown for 1,363 yards and 10 touchdowns through the first six games. His favorite target has been wide receiver Jayce Brown, who has 29 catches for 390 yards and three touchdowns. Brown ranks sixth in the Big 12 in receptions per game (4.83), and he is coming off his second 100-yard game of the year at Baylor.

4)&nbsp;Linebackers Austin Romaine and Des Purnell lead the Wildcats in tackles with 45 and 32, respectively. Romaine ranks ninth in the Big 12 with 7.5 tackles per game, while his average of 5.00 solo tackles per game ranks 14th in the nation and third in the Big 12. Cornerback Zashon Rich is tied for second in the Big 12 with six pass breakups, and the Cats rank second in the country with six fumble recoveries.

5)&nbsp;K-State’s specialists have started the year strong. Kicker Luis Rodriguez is 8-for-9 on field goal attempts – including a 51-yarder at Arizona – and 19-for-19 on extra points. • Kansas State had one of its best offensive performances of the season – topping the 500-yard mark – and won the turnover battle, but a late 53-yard field goal gave Baylor a 35-34 win over the Wildcats last week.

• Avery Johnson threw for 344 yards, and Jayce Brown topped the 100-yard receiving mark in the contest.

• The week prior, Kansas State took advantage of the first of three bye weeks in the 2025 season with a 34-20 win over UCF.

• It was a solid all-around performance as the offense rushed for 266 yards – including 166 yards from Dylan Edwards – Johnson threw for two scores, and the defense forced three UCF turnovers en route to the win.

• Five of K-State’s six games this season have been decided by one possession. In four of the five games, the Wildcats trailed late in the fourth quarter and had the ball with a chance to either tie or take the lead.

• K-State was able to put together a 10-play, 81-yard drive over 1:03 against North Dakota, scoring a touchdown with 42 seconds remaining to swing a 35-31 deficit into a 38-35 victory.

• The next week against Army, K-State had the ball with less than two minutes remaining and got into plus territory until an interception sealed the Black Knights’ three-point win.

• Six days later at Arizona, K-State had the ball near midfield with just over one minute remaining, but a turnover on downs ended the contest in a six-point defeat.

• Last week against Baylor, the Wildcats had a 56-yard field goal attempt blocked on the final play of the game.

• K-State and TCU will see siblings go head-to-head as Chiddi Obiazor and his brother Namdi will face off.

• Chiddi, a sophomore, is in his third year in the program and has started seven career games, including all six this season.

• Namdi is a senior linebacker for the Horned Frogs who is in his fourth season at TCU after spending the 2021 season at Iowa Western Community College.

THE RETURN OF EDWARDS• Kansas State received a boost against UCF as running back Dylan Edwards played his first full game of the season, rushing for 166 yards and one touchdown.

• It was the second-most rushing yards of his career, just behind a 196-yard output against Rutgers in the 2024 Rate Bowl.

• His rushing output against the Knights was highlighted by a 75-yard touchdown run in the third quarter, the longest rush of his career. His previous long rush was a 65-yard touchdown in last year’s Rate Bowl.

• Paired with Jayce Brown’s 75-yard run in the previous contest at Arizona, it marked the first time in school history that K-State had a rush of at least 75 yards in consecutive games.

TOUB:&nbsp;“Yeah, he’s (Nikko Remigio) solid. He’s a guy I can depend on. I call him the adult in the room; he’s the oldest guy back there (laughter). I like having him back there especially on kickoff returns because (of) the kind of crazy balls that we’re getting and the way you have to read the kickers and the kickoff coverage, and he’s back there and he does a great job on those little things that people don’t really realize.”

Q:&nbsp;What do you see from Jacksonville’s return game?

TOUB:&nbsp;“Oh really good. Their return game is outstanding. I mean they had a touchdown last week in (Jaguars WR Parker) Washington, the punt returner, he’s got an unbelievable burst. His get up to full speed is really impressive when you watch tape. Then they got the two rookies back there 36 (Jaguars RB LeQuint Allen Jr.) and 33 (Jaguars RB Bhayshul) Tuten, the 4.28 (40-yard dash time) guy that we loved coming out. But he (Bhayshul Tuten) is explosive and can get around you, he hits it north and south. They got the total package in the return game. (Special Teams Coordinator) Heath Farwell, the coach does a great job. He was a great player, and now he’s a great coach. I coached against him when he was at Minnesota. We go way back. But he’s doing a great job, and he’s got those guys flying around.”

Q:&nbsp;On the potential rain weather in Jacksonville.

TOUB:&nbsp;“We’re not going to wet the balls or anything like that. We talk about it and say, if it is raining or the wind, we take that all into factor with our return game. We talked about that this morning. But you talk about it. I think we have enough experienced guys that we will be able to handle it, and we practice in the rain out here, too.”

Q: On Trevor Lawerence’s ability to react to the blitz.

SPAGNUOLO:&nbsp;“It looks like a quarterback that we always knew he (Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence) had a lot of talent, and I’ve always felt that way. But it looks like a quarterback that is really comfortable in a system that is new. You usually don’t see that right off the bat. They sure have put it together pretty good, pretty quick. It’s resulted in three wins and a bunch of points. There are no easy games in this league – there is no easy offense to defend. We throw the tape on of these guys, and it’s like, “Wow.” They have got receivers and think the running back (Travis Etienne Jr.), I think, is the guy that is kind of generating it right now. Like all of these games that we play where people are going to run the football, if we don’t stop that first then it becomes a long day.”

Q: What have you seen from Nohl Williams?

SPAGNUOLO:&nbsp;“He’s (Nohl Williams) done a really nice job for us. Early in the year he kind of stuck out to me on special teams. He had some – I don’t know if you guys remember he had a couple of really good – on kickoff team, some really good hits. He’s a physical guy, and he was physical in training camp. There was a little bit of a rough beginning because it was different to him. But I think he has settled in, and he’s playing more confident, which is probably the first thing you need out there. And I think we have got a lot of respect for D-Hop (Ravens WR Deandre Hopkins) and he was able to have a couple of decent plays on him and I think that boosted his confidence.”

Q: On the defense capitalizing on turnovers and interceptions.

SPAGNUOLO:&nbsp;“Although, I can’t remember too many – we call them MOBP, missed opportunities or big plays, I don’t remember too many that we’ve dropped. While I’m thinking of it, that was a heck of a play that Leo (Chenal) made. I don’t know how many linebackers – he did everything exactly right. Covered them with sticking in coverage, and when the tight end looked for the ball, he looked for it and then he made a great play on that. Listen, that’s what it takes to get turnovers, great plays like that or punch it out like what happened last night in the game (Rams vs. 49ers). We’re going to stay aggressive in that mindset, and we need to match their defense because their (Jacksonville Jaguars) defense is turning the ball over. So, if that happens on the other side of the ball, we have to find a way to match that.”

Q:&nbsp;On Kingsley Suamataia’s confidence.

NAGY:&nbsp;“It’s a beautiful thing when you get those guys on the front end, and they’re doing what they did this last game. It’s going to happen intermittently at times. There’s still going to be some times where there’s some hiccups and he (Kingsley Suamataia) learns on the run but really really special game that he put together. For anybody and anything that we do in life, when you have confidence and you can play fast and you start believing more and more, it’s infectious and I think like that left side, those young guys continuing to have that, it just moves on to the back end with your quarterback, with your coaches, your running backs (and) everybody else, it’s good.”

Q:&nbsp;What have you seen in Brashard Smith’s development that has allowed him to play more?

NAGY:&nbsp;“Not making mistakes mentally. He’s (Brashard Smith) doing what he needs to do and then you saw a little sprinkle of it last week when he caught that ball Matt (Derrick) on the sideline and got hit a few times and stayed in bounds. Probably got six extra yards that most people wouldn’t get. That’s the physical part that we see. The mental part is being able to eliminate the mistakes. We’re ok with mistakes, but you just can’t make the same mistake twice. He’s not doing that now. We’re able to put him in some packages where he can study those throughout the week and you don’t want him to play slow, you want to use his strengths which is ball skills, speed and then be able to put that into fruition and we really want that to continue to keep growing moving forward.”

Q:&nbsp;On converting on fourth down at a high rate and what he can pinpoint to that success.

NAGY:&nbsp;“Two things in that. I would say number one: I feel like throughout the week, the coaches have done a good job of being able to really talk through and communicate the plays that we like in this moment, whether it’s a personnel that we like versus what they do. Whether it’s a concept or a scheme that we like versus that they do. And then getting to that moment and not wasting time and feeling the conviction of the call and executing it. The players feel that. Last week, we didn’t have as many third down conversions, but we were four for four on fourth down at critical times. We talked about that on Monday morning with the team, that’s important. We got to keep that going, and it’s a credit to the players for executing it.”

Q:&nbsp;What have you seen from the Jacksonville Jaguars offense?

JONES:&nbsp;“They’re battle tested. Watching throughout the course of the few games they’ve played, they’ve been battle tested. The Houston Texans game, it was a battle especially in the fourth quarter. It was a back-and-forth battle, and their defense has been playing lights out. (Jaguars QB) Trevor Lawrence has made a lot of progression throughout the years. He’s made a lot of big throws when the team needed him. They have a very great cohesive group that’s playing well together right now. The challenge for us is the d-line and the defense to get after them.”

Q:&nbsp;On the defense starting to produce turnovers.

JONES:&nbsp;“Absolutely. I think that’s something we harp on week in and week out. Turnovers, sacks, and affecting the quarterback. I think they go hand in hand if we’re rushing like we should and forcing him to throw the ball quicker than his expected timing then more turnovers will come and then eventually more sacks will come from the d-line, not the linebackers or the DBs (Laughter).”

This is a potential weather game, so you add that into it too, you have got to make sure you really take care of the football.”Q: On the performance of Trey Smith and the offensive line so far.REID:&nbsp;“We’re getting better there as we go (and) as they play together more. Trey (Smith) is a beast, and he gets in there and he will battle with anybody – tough guy. Like I said the other day, it doesn’t all have to be pretty, you want to get the job done and they’re kind of doing that right now. We got some young guys that are getting better.”Q: How has Brashard Smith shown you that he’s able to handle getting more reps?REID:&nbsp;“Well, literally being able to handle it is half the battle. From a mental standpoint, he’s (Brashard Smith) picked it up well. He’s in a good room where guys can help him and have done some of things that we’re asking him to do in the past. He’s willing to listen. He is a very humble kid and works hard.”Q: On Jaguars head coach Liam Coen and 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh’s confrontation.REID:&nbsp;That goes on. So, if you’re going to put a sign out there – I just gave you one and you didn’t see it (laughter). If you’re going to put it out there, guys are going to look at it and try to sneak it from you. The headsets have kind of taken away a little bit of that. But that’s what it is, it’s all part of it and kind of move on.”Q: Have you had any conversations like that after a game?REID:&nbsp;“No, but listen those guys know each other, that’s the thing. They’re buddies, competitive, and were at the same place last year. It gets brotherly you know. They start arguing. That’s all right, they’re alright.”Q: On Jawaan Taylor’s last performance in Jacksonville and his mentality going into this game.REID:&nbsp;“Well, it’s home and he did play there at the same time. I’m sure it will be emotional for him that way, and he knows the other part of that. He knows he has to focus in on not being too quick off the ball, but at the same time being quick. You have to be on time, spot on. He’s worked hard at that.”Q: How impressive is it to see Jacksonville have character within their team, especially with a new coaching staff?REID:&nbsp;“I think it’s great. It’s great for the league and it’s legit. They’re playing good football, and they’re coaching well. You can see the guys are listening to them and doing what they want. My hat goes off to them. Overall, it’s good for the league to have that kind of competition for sure.”Q: With depth in the wide receiver room, will you evaluate each player week-to-week on how to use them?REID:&nbsp;“There’s one ball and the guys know that. As long as you stay humble with it and you don’t get that hungry thing where you start wanting it and then don’t play. But the guys have done a great job, and they’re all good buddies and they’re kind of pulling for each other. You want to maintain that. That’s a tough thing though. When you have a number of guys, what’s real is there is one football.”Q: On the offense’s performance against the Ravens.REID:&nbsp;“There was some good things and there are some things we have to go work on. Can we be better, absolutely on the offensive side. (Offensive Coordinator) Matt (Nagy) has done a good job of finding things with (Pass Game Coordinator) Joe Bleymaier and these guys have been finding things that work for the guys that are playing. The offensive line did their thing, but they have another huge challenge this week. This defensive line is a good one, so it’s – every week is its own deal. But this past week there was some good things that took place, but we have to keep building on that.”Q: On Travis Hunter playing both sides of the ball.REID:&nbsp;“(If) you get a good player you’d love to be able to do that. I think (Former Patriots WR) Troy Brown did it for a little bit (as) a receiver, DB, nickel position. It takes a special guy to jump in there to be able to do that. My hat goes off to the kid (Jaguars WR/CB Travis Hunter). It’s hard being a rookie, and then really hard knowing both sides of the ball.”Chiefs Player QuotesOctober 2, 2025QB PATRICK MAHOMESQ:&nbsp;On what stands out from the Jacksonville Jaguars defense.MAHOMES:&nbsp;“First off, they’re very fundamentally sound and when you have a fundamentally sound defense that talented with the amount of players that they have at every single level of the defense, that’s a hard defense to go against and they do a good job attacking the football. They’re causing the turnovers. It’s not like the turnovers are happening, they’re punching the football out, tipping passes. They’re intercepting the football when they get their hands on it. It’ll be a great challenge for us; we have to make sure that we’re fundamentally sound as well. We can’t give them any opportunity because they’re capitalizing on them.”Q:&nbsp;On Jaguars DE Josh Hines-Allen.MAHOMES:&nbsp;“He’s (Jaguars DE Josh Hines-Allen) just the perfect build for a defensive end. Fast, he’s tall. He just has a great variety of pass rush moves, and then he can drop in coverage if necessary, as well. He’s done a great job in this league for a couple of years now and so I think he’s kind of in that perfect moment where he is a veteran and knows the veteran stuff but has the athletic ability to make stuff happen as well. Great football player that we’ll have to account for every play.”Q:&nbsp;On what stood out to him against the Baltimore Ravens.MAHOMES:&nbsp;“The execution I think was the biggest thing. Obviously, the guys made plays, and we were able to score a lot of points but I’m always big on the execution (and) executing on the plays that are called and everybody being on the same page. I think that was something we did at a very high level this last game and something that we can hopefully continue to do as the season goes on.”Q:&nbsp;On his decision to stay in the pocket longer instead of trying to run.MAHOMES:&nbsp;“It just continues to build trust with the offensive line, and they’re (offensive line) doing a great job of pass protecting. For me, just to be able to trust that sitting in the pocket maybe that extra tenth of a second and then give guys chances down the field. Something I continue to get better at now, but I think I did a better job of that this last week for sure.”Q:&nbsp;On what goes into the play like his touchdown pass to JuJu Smith-Schuster.MAHOMES:&nbsp;“We schemed it up very well where we knew the coverages that the defense was playing down there and we knew that it was going to be a tight window, but the way they (Baltimore Ravens defense) played their coverage there was a spot on the thing and JuJu (Smith-Schuster) ran the route perfectly and so I was ready to throw on-time. We had an option to go after that obviously, but the window was big enough for me to throw the ball and then a physical catch by JuJu there in the endzone and making the play happen.”Q:&nbsp;On why they don’t have many turnovers despite the tight window and deep throws.MAHOMES:&nbsp;“That’s basically the guys that are making the plays. I’m giving guys chances down the field and they’re making plays happen. It’s either them or nobody else. That’s something that we preached all offseason. It’s good to see that success happening, and let’s continue with it as the season goes on.”Q:&nbsp;On the Jaguars Head Coach Liam Coen sign stealing allegations and if he has to be cognizant of it.MAHOMES:&nbsp;“I honestly don’t really understand. We switch signals every single week so – I have no idea honestly. It’s something that I don’t necessarily understand, but we’ll make sure we switch our signals I guess (laughs).”Q:&nbsp;How much time do you spend learning new signals and things like that each week?MAHOMES:&nbsp;“For us, we scout the defense, and we try and learn what we can from them as far as their coverages and stuff like that. For us, we switch signals every single week knowing that the game is on TV and teams watch that. We try to make sure we’re interchanging that sign stuff so they (opponents) can’t get a beat on what we’re trying to do.”Q:&nbsp;Have you watched extra film on Jaguars DB/WR Travis Hunter?MAHOMES:&nbsp;“I haven’t watched a ton. Obviously, I watched his (Travis Hunter’s) defensive snaps but I know that he was a super talented player in college, and it was fun to watch him at Colorado make plays happen and coming out in the draft process I always watch those receivers. He’s special when he gets the football in his hands and to be able to break tackles and make guys miss and then seeing him play defense now, he’s done a great job obviously with this defense and a great job in this scheme of playing man and zone and being around the football as well. A special football player and someone that we’ll have to account for when he’s out there on the field.”Q:&nbsp;On his thoughts about Brashard Smith this past week.MAHOMES:&nbsp;“He’s (Brashard Smith) done a great job. Just like any other rookie in this offense, you kind of give more and more every week and he’s done a good job of taking it in and going out there and executing at a high level. We’ll continue to do that. It helps that he played receiver a lot so he can run routes and he also played running back so he can run between the tackles and those are special football players to have because it keeps the defenses guessing and that’s what you want to do, you want them on their heels and then be able to attack them a variety of different ways.”Q:&nbsp;On how to keep the offensive edge going into this week.MAHOMES:&nbsp;“There’s still a lot to learn. Early in the first half there were some of those drives that stalled out like we had been doing earlier in the season, so trying to find ways to execute especially earlier in football games to build leads. Like I’ve always said, when you build a lead with (Defensive Coordinator Steve) Spags calling the defense it really unleashes him to go out there. We’ll continue to work at the little things, fundamentally and try to all be on the same page, so that we can execute at a higher level early and then keep that momentum through the rest of the game.”Q:&nbsp;Are you aware of what’s going around the division and league before you play in the later games?MAHOMES:&nbsp;“Yeah but like you said it’s early in the season, so we know we still have a lot coming our way, but I’m obviously rooting against them (the division opponents). If I see the Giants are winning, I’m happier than if they weren’t winning. I’m not necessarily keeping up to date like all the time but if it’s on the TV or if I’m at (GEHA Field at) Arrowhead (Stadium) and they show a highlight, I’ll definitely look and see who is winning the game.”Q:&nbsp;Have you talked to Tyreek Hill since his injury on Monday night?MAHOMES:&nbsp;“Yeah I mean I talked to him (Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill) a little bit but more than anything just sending prayers his way because you never want to see that happen in football and it’s part of the game, but it’s a terrible part of the game and I know how he works so I’m excited to watch his comeback now. He’ll get to work and be back at it, but obviously praying for him and his family because you never want to see that on the football field.”Q:&nbsp;On being the youngest player to throw 250 passing touchdowns in a career and if Aaron Rodgers had reached out to him.MAHOMES:&nbsp;“I have not heard from him (Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers). I think he was just in Dublin, so I don’t know if he wants to reach out from there but to pass him as far as right now is really cool. But I have a long ways to go on the amount of touchdowns he’s thrown and that was someone I watched growing up. I’ll continue to just get better and better and try to score as many points as possible and more than anything win as many football games as possible and I think that at the end of my career I’ll be happy with where I’m at.”Q:&nbsp;On if Xavier Worthy exceeded his expectations coming back from an injury.MAHOMES:&nbsp;“Obviously, just you never know with coming off an injury but that’s what I expected from the beginning of the season. I think the best way to put it is he’s (Xavier Worthy) a guy that can win one-on-one against really everybody in the league, and so when you have that much explosiveness and you can run routes like he does, it brings a lot of attention to him. You saw that they had to make decisions if they were going to play man coverage or rather play zone coverage and then it helped get other guys open as well. As well as just bringing energy. He has a lot of energy on the football field (and) he’s got celebrations it seems like every single week. I think that’s contagious, and it brought energy to the entire sideline and the entire team. It was a great thing to get him out there.”Q:&nbsp;Does Nohl Williams physicality stand out to you?MAHOMES:&nbsp;“Yeah, I think for sure. Usually, I have a pretty good feel – especially the DBs and stuff like that. I was talking to (Defensive Backs Coach) Coach (Dave) Merritt and (Defensive Coordinator) Coach (Steve) Spags early about just the way he (Nohl Williams) played. Obviously, the physicality, but he’s in the right spot all the time, and he’s in the right coverage. He has a good instinct for being around the football, and I think that’s something that’s hard to learn. You kind of have that or you don’t. He’s done a great job. I haven’t been able to watch a ton of their film, but I’m watching the coverages that I’ve seen, and he’s done a great job this year and I think he’ll continue to get better.”<a>G TREY SMITH</a>Q:&nbsp;How much do you enjoy being a mentor to the younger guys?SMITH:&nbsp;“It’s cool. It’s a great responsibility, just trying to help bring everybody along (and) alongside Creed (Humphrey) as well and Jawaan (Taylor) as well. Being the older guys in the room to help guide the younger guys and uphold a standard. Like I said, sort of top to bottom leadership of (Offensive Line) Coach (Andy) Heck and (Assistant Offensive Line Coach) Corey Matthaei. So, we’re dictating and then we just make sure we uphold the standard.”Q:&nbsp;What are the challenges the Jaguars bring?SMITH:&nbsp;“The Jaguars are an extremely talented defensive front. (There) are a lot of veterans in that unit as well. They do a really good job of – they’re a good football team first and foremost but especially up front. Their defensive line is sort of the heartbeat of their defense, and they do a phenomenal job. It’s the NFL, everybody is going to be good week in and week out. It’s going to be a challenge up front but we’re going to prepare, and we’re going to attack and like I said I can’t give enough credit to those guys for how well they played the game this year.”Q:&nbsp;On Josh Simmons and his high pocket moments.SMITH:&nbsp;“He’s (Josh Simmons) had a lot (of moments). I really like Josh (Simmons) and what he has done. The talent level that he has, for me I think the sky is the limit for him. It’s really fun being able to watch him and try to help him out, with any facet his game and just be a resource for him because that is just how much I believe in him and obviously with Kingsley (Suamataia) as well and how talented he is. It’s fun watching 71 get out there and (is) doing his thing. There is a reason he got drafted where he got drafted and I think the sky is the limit for him.”LB LEO CHENALQ:&nbsp;What made your interception against the Ravens so special?CHENAL:&nbsp;“I was saying that to the guys, this is the first one (interception) that I actually made an athletic or DB type play. It was pretty cool and really then thing was plastering on the down that (Ravens QB) Lamar (Jackson) is going to extend plays. So, it was plastering on the down and being able to read his (Ravens TE Mark Andrews) eyes and just get my head around and do my best to make a play.”Q:&nbsp;What does it mean to you that guys like Trent McDuffie praising you after your interception?CHENAL:&nbsp;“It’s special because a lot of times they will say, hey great job in the run game or knocking somebody back. So, you got guys like Trent (McDuffie) and those dudes (defensive backs) saying that is a huge compliment. I just (have) got to keep it going to prove it’s not just a fluke.”Q:&nbsp;With a running back like Travis Etienne, what do you have to be mindful of?
