A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for parts of Kansas until 3 a.m. CDT.

U.S. National Weather Service Wichita (NWS Wichita) meteorologists have narrowed down further details of tonight's system, with chances for severe weather&nbsp;

Numerous north-central Kansas communities received almost an inch of rain from yesterday's late-night system, and tonight, some residents could see another round of severe weather.

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Storm Prediction Center (NOAA SPC), forecasters predict storms to form in western Kansas and march across the state, bringing along strong 75-85 mph west of central Kansas.

Once storms reach counties like Ellsworth, Saline, Ottawa, McPherson and neighboring communities, SPC forecasters predict a lower chance of severe winds.

Storms will likely reach the Salina area late this evening, with thunderstorm chances rising near town around midnight to 4 a.m.

Large to very large hail will be a risk with this more discrete convection. But, upscale growth into an intense bowing cluster appears likely across parts of far eastern CO into western/central KS by late afternoon/early evening as a low-level jet gradually strengthens.

Numerous severe wind gusts, some potentially significant (up to 75-85 mph), should occur with this bow through at least late evening as it moves quickly eastward over KS.

Latest guidance continues to show the greatest large hail and severe wind threat in/near the Enhanced Risk, so only small expansions have been made to the greater wind probabilities in southwest/central KS with this update.

The Demonstration Garden (across from Kenwood Cove):&nbsp; The Master Gardener Demonstration Garden is a public garden maintained by Master Gardeners and contains a wide variety of plants in each of the themed garden areas which have similar water, light, and maintenance requirements related to each gardening style.&nbsp; Don’t miss the chance to walk through this beautiful public garden for ideas and inspiration for your own landscape.

Ed Roland can describe 30 years in Collective Soul with two words.

"It's an honor and privilege," said the frontman and songwriter behind the Georgia-born band known for a bedrock of time-tested hits. "Its that simple. Just being able to do what you love, it's an honor and a privilege. 

Since launching a major label career in 1994, Collective Soul has charted a path that most rock bands dream of, but only few achieve. They cut through a noisy 1990s rock scene with a knack for stick-to-you-like-glue melodies, roof-shaking guitars, and a touch of Southern grit. Behind enduring singles like "Shine," "December" and "The World I Know," the band hit the ground running for what would not be a short-lived sprint, but a steady marathon of uncompromising - and always catchy - albums. With sharp, polished rock riffs and Roland's signature wise-to-the-world storytelling, HERE TO ETERNITY plays like a full-throttle Collective Soul album from the moment it begins spilling out of stereo speakers.

Roland - alongside brother and co-founding member Dean Roland (guitar), childhood friend and bassist Will Turpin, guitarist Jesse Triplett and drummer Johnny Rabb - decamped for a month to Palm Springs, California, to record virtually all of HERE TO ETERNITY inside a house once owned by Elvis and Priscilla Presley. Called the "Elvis Presley Palm Springs Estate," it's believed to be the only home besides the famed Memphis estate owned by Presley at the time of his death.

Stepping inside the King's one-time California getaway, his influence seeped into the album-making process. Ed Roland and album co-producer Shawn Grove slept in the home for the duration of the sessions, which overlapped with the death of Presley's daughter Lisa Marie in early 2023.

"The sticky DNA, with Elvis being there," Turpin said, "You can just tell it was his designs. All pink tiles. It's straight out of 1977. It was super cool just to be there and in the zone."

Or, in Triplett's words: "It's not something you can put your finger on specifically, but the vibe and energy of that place translated through the music. You almost don't realize until the end and listen to the rough mixes and you go 'oh shit ….. we did that."

Intrigue centers on Democrats’ bid to erode GOP’s supermajorities in House, Senate

TOPEKA — Minutes from the deadline for candidates to file for the Kansas Legislature, Rep. Brenda Landwehr withdrew from the ballot after more than 25 years in the Kansas House to spend more time with family and make way for a Republican she was comfortable endorsing.

Landwehr, a Republican from northwest Wichita and the influential chair of the House’s public health committee, said the decision to retire was easier after getting to know Jill Ward, who filed to run in the 105th District’s two-person GOP primary in August and, if successful, against a Democratic nominee in November.

“I love the people and the work, but it is time to devote more of myself to my husband, kids and grandkids,” Landwehr said.

Ward successfully lobbied the Legislature this year to pass Levi’s Law to increase penalties for people found guilty of leaving the scene of a deadly collision. Her son was killed in a hit-and-run accident.

“Drafting, introducing and shepherding the bill through to being signed by the governor taught me a lot about the process and the people that make policy affecting Kansas families and businesses,” Ward said. “It ignited a passion in me to make a difference for current and future Kansans.”

On Monday, Landwehr was among 19 members of the House and 11 in the Senate who chose not to seek reelection in 2024. The list included moderate Republican Rep. Susan Concannon of Beloit, who was involved in policy initiatives on child welfare, public health and rural life. Concannon was a fervent supporter of Medicaid expansion, to the consternation of GOP leadership, and she looked “forward to celebrating its passage someday.”

Under tragic circumstances, McPherson Rep. Les Mason’s candidacy for reelection in the 73rd District was withdrawn after he suffered a brain aneurysm Friday. He was unresponsive at a Wichita hospital before passing away Monday, said House Speaker Dan Hawkins, R-Wichita.

McPherson Sen. Rick Wilborn, who serves as vice president of the Senate and had decided not to seek reelection, filed for Mason’s seat in the House.

“We’ve been friends for 40 years,” Wilborn said. “We have served in the Legislature together, both serving McPherson County. We have a lot of common interests. I felt compelled, on behalf of Les. I cannot fill his shoes, but I can sure run for a seat.”

Secretary of State Scott Schwab, literally, brought a gavel down on new filings at noon Monday. Despite skepticism expressed by election-fraud conspiracy theorists in Kansas and elsewhere, the GOP secretary of state said he was convinced the 2024 elections would be fair, accurate and honest.

“Yes,” he said. “Our clerks will make it so.”

Overall, 41 candidates for the House, which amounts to nearly one-third of the chamber’s 125 seats, immediately won their 2024 campaigns because none attracted an opponent. Twenty-five Republicans and 16 Democrats were among lucky victors on filing deadline day. There also were five senators who didn’t draw a primary or general election opponent, and could only be defeated by a write-in or third party candidate.

Nine state representatives decided to leave the House to seek promotions to the Senate, and several former state legislators filed in an attempt to return to the Capitol.

Democrats fielded candidates in 92 of 125 House races, and placed a Democratic candidate in every House seat — except one — that was won by Gov. Laura Kelly in 2022. That fell in line with a quest of Democrats to break the Republican’s two-thirds majority in the House, which has made it easier for the GOP to override vetoes by the Democratic governor. Kelly and other organizations have set up political-action committees for the purpose of ending the GOP supermajority in the House.

House Minority Leader Vic Miller, a Topeka Democrat running for the Kansas Senate, said Democratic candidates also were motivated by GOP lawmakers intent on diminishing abortion rights in Kansas. He said that GOP agenda existed despite rejection by Kansas voters in 2022 of a state constitutional amendment designed to reverse a court decision declaring the right to abortion was embedded in the Kansas Constitution’s Bill of Rights.

“It is no accident that so many women filed this year. Women are sick and tired of being silenced, and they’re not holding back. Our candidates reflect Kansans. They’re hard working, humble and diverse,” Miller said.

In Senate District 19, Miller is involved in a five-candidate race for the open seat with two Republicans and two other Democrats. Candidate Patrick Schmidt, a Topeka Democrat who previously ran for the U.S. House, said it was clear GOP extremists in the Legislature were eager to trample reproductive rights of women in Kansas.

Schmidt said the district required a senator who would be a “champion of women’s rights” and “bring new blood to the Legislature.”

In an intriguing move, Rep. Christina Haswood, D-Lawrence, filed to challenge incumbent Sen. Marci Francisco, D-Lawrence, in the 2nd District. That political tangle became more interesting with the filing of Republican David Miller, 74. He served a dozen years in the Kansas House, was chairman of the Kansas Republican Party and in 1990 was a lieutenant governor running mate to GOP gubernatorial candidate Nestor Weigand.

“Douglas County has become a one-party county and we are all paying dearly for it,” David Miller said. “We must have real tax relief. Our taxes have skyrocketed and the Legislature failed to override the governor’s tax cut veto. It seems that she and her party care more about the government’s fat checkbook than they care about the taxpayers.”

In a maneuver comparable to that of Landwehr, Louisburg Republican Sen. Molly Baumgardner withdrew her candidacy for reelection in the final hour. She arrived at the secretary of state’s office to submit written notification of her decision at the same time Doug Shane, a Miami County Republican, showed up to file for her 37th District seat. Democrat Sherry Giebler of Olathe also filed in that Senate district.

“In knowing the responsibilities facing me in the near future,” Baumgardner said, “this is an appropriate decision for the constituents I’ve had the honor to serve these past 10 years.”

Eleven senators opted not to run in 2024. Combined with three resignations and one death, it meant 15 of 40 senators elected in 2020 have or will have exited by January.

Sen. Dennis Pyle, the Hiawatha Republican who irritated some peers by running as an independent candidate for governor in 2022, decided to seek another four-year term. He said he didn’t object to assertions he was a maverick who “stands for the people and doesn’t take orders from the establishment.”

In the GOP primary in Senate District 1, he faces state Rep. John Eplee, R-Atchison, and Holton Republican Craig Bowser. No Democrat filed in that district.

“I am the only candidate with Senate experience and a proven conservative record fighting for traditional family values, 2nd Amendment, life, limited government and fiscal conservatism,” Pyle said.

Senate Democratic Leader Dinah Sykes, a Lenexa Democrat who didn’t draw an opponent, said 34 of 40 Senate seats were contested by Democrats. Eighteen of 39 Democrats seeking Senate seats were women, she said. Currently, Republicans outnumber Democrats in the Senate 29 to 11.

A goal of Senate Democrats was to increase their caucus by recruiting candidates capable of mounting campaigns to defeat “extremist Republicans trying to turn our state into a place that isn’t welcoming and that doesn’t respect or invest in its people,” Sykes said.

Sen. David Haley, the longest-serving state senator and a Democrat from Kansas City, Kansas, wound up with a primary challenger. Ephren Taylor, who has worked as an organizer for the nonprofit organization Loud Light, said he entered the 4th District contest to support public schools, expand Medicaid, create a more fair tax system and bring about gun control laws.

“Our people need someone in office that is accessible, who will listen to their needs and provide them a seat at the table,” Taylor said.

30 Kan. legislators decline to seek reelection, dozens to win campaigns by default

Governor Laura Kelly announced today that seven organizations will receive a combined $3.9 million in grants through the Advancing Digital Opportunities to Promote Technology (ADOPT) program. ADOPT supports the Kelly administration’s work to connect more Kansans to high-speed internet by making public Wi-Fi accessible and distributing devices in underserved areas.&nbsp;

“Kansans rely on technology for work, school, health care, and connecting to each other,”&nbsp;Governor Laura Kelly said.&nbsp;“The ADOPT grants support community organizations in our shared mission to connect more people to the internet and critical digital skills.”

To continue connecting Kansans to devices and internet access across the state, an additional round of funding will open later this year with $10.4 million available.

“These awards will enhance internet access to economically distressed households and communities,”&nbsp;Director of Broadband Development Jade Piros de Carvalho said.&nbsp;“With this investment, Kansas continues to amplify digital opportunities across the state.”

The Wichita Library Foundation, $289,270The foundation will install nine solar-powered charging benches in low-income areas, leveraging the Wichita Public Library’s extensive reach. The benches will be enabled with free Wi-Fi so people can access the internet while charging their devices. With its seven branches, the library collaborates with non-profits to enhance reading and digital skills, offering free computing access, classes, and circulating devices to boost digital literacy. This effort is crucial in a city where more than 40,000 households lack home internet.

Cunningham Communications, $107,279.90Cunningham will provide public Wi-Fi to 54 outdoor and two indoor access points across 10 communities in North Central Kansas. The project ensures high-speed internet access in targeted areas, including Glen Elder State Park, sports complexes, school fields, parks, pools, golf courses, and camping sites across Mitchell, Cloud, Osborne, Jewell, and Republic counties.

Mokan Communications, $721,111Mokan,&nbsp;in partnership with several Miami County organizations, will place 21 public Wi-Fi access points in Paola Park Square and around Wallace Park. Approximately 3.53 miles of buried fiber will also provide high-speed connectivity.

WTC, $721,111WTC and numerous community partners will offer free public Wi-Fi to economically distressed locations in Riley County. This project will deploy 124 public high-speed, Wi-Fi internet access points.

Grey Snow Management, $370,793Grey Snow Management, in partnership with the Iowa Tribe of Kansas and Nebraska, will provide underserved tribal and surrounding areas with access to 150 Dell Latitude laptops, six Alienware PCs, and essential accessories. This program will enhance digital literacy and expand educational and recreational opportunities, addressing significant digital and economic disparities within tribal membership across Brown and Doniphan Counties.

Kansas State University, $1,484,215, Kansas State University will enhance digital literacy and access in rural Kansas communities. The project seeks to bridge the digital divide by distributing Chromebooks to elementary, middle, and high school students within Kansas State University’s Rural Education Center support network.&nbsp;Goals include promoting science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education and ensuring sustained technology use through durable devices and support.

Kansas City Kansas Community College (KCKCC), $239,400KCKCC will provide access to 350 laptops to students receiving Pell Grants, eliminating a waiting list of 40-plus students each semester. This program aims to ensure equal access to technology, crucial for academic success, employment opportunities, and essential services.

Kansas was the first state in the nation to receive $15 million in U.S. Department of Treasury Digital Connectivity Technology (DCT) Funds.

To address the digital divide and enhance digital equity across the state, the Kansas Office of Broadband Development (KOBD) announced an application will open for the Capitol Project Fund Digital Connectivity Technology (DCT) Equipment and Public Wi-Fi Enablement Program. This initiative is a crucial step in implementing the recently published Kansas Digital Equity Plan, designed to tackle the challenges of broadband accessibility, affordability, and device availability.

The&nbsp;Equipment Distribution Program&nbsp;awards grant dollars to eligible entities to make devices available to individuals who do not subscribe to broadband connectivity due to lack of devices and equipment. The program makes available, to qualifying individuals, computers, laptops, and tablets through no-cost, short or long-term loan programs administered by eligible entities.&nbsp; Subrecipients will be required to prioritize individuals with no device over those receiving devices through other programs (schools, etc.). The primary objective of this program is to award funding to eligible entities to distribute no-cost devices and equipment to critical need individuals who lack devices and equipment.&nbsp; Eligible entities (i.e. – sub-recipients) will retain ownership of the devices throughout the term of the loan.&nbsp;

Max Individual Award: $500,000. Required Applicant Match: None

The&nbsp;Public Wi-Fi Enablement Program&nbsp;will provide access to high-quality, reliable public Wi-Fi based broadband in Kansas.&nbsp; Public Wi-Fi applications will be accepted with priority given to applications that address unserved and economically distressed areas which have a compelling need for free and reliable broadband services that bridge critical access gaps to support quality of life considerations.&nbsp; Applicants are expected to engage community leaders and stakeholders in the development of projects that will benefit Kansas citizens and communities.&nbsp; Grantees will be required to provide free public Wi-Fi services within the proposed service area that directly enable work, education, and health monitoring for at least five years from the completion of the Project.

Max Individual Award: $1 million. Required Applicant Match: 10%

The benches will be enabled with free Wi-Fi so people can access the internet while charging their devices. With its seven branches, the library collaborates with non-profits to enhance reading and digital skills, offering free computing access, classes, and circulating devices to boost digital literacy. This effort is crucial in a city where more than 40,000 households lack home internet.Cunningham Communications, $107,279.90Cunningham will provide public Wi-Fi to 54 outdoor and two indoor access points across 10 communities in North Central Kansas. The project ensures high-speed internet access in targeted areas, including Glen Elder State Park, sports complexes, school fields, parks, pools, golf courses, and camping sites across Mitchell, Cloud, Osborne, Jewell, and Republic counties.Mokan Communications, $721,111Mokan,&nbsp;in partnership with several Miami County organizations, will place 21 public Wi-Fi access points in Paola Park Square and around Wallace Park. Approximately 3.53 miles of buried fiber will also provide high-speed connectivity.WTC, $721,111WTC and numerous community partners will offer free public Wi-Fi to economically distressed locations in Riley County. This project will deploy 124 public high-speed, Wi-Fi internet access points.<h2>Device Distribution</h2>Grey Snow Management, $370,793Grey Snow Management, in partnership with the Iowa Tribe of Kansas and Nebraska, will provide underserved tribal and surrounding areas with access to 150 Dell Latitude laptops, six Alienware PCs, and essential accessories. This program will enhance digital literacy and expand educational and recreational opportunities, addressing significant digital and economic disparities within tribal membership across Brown and Doniphan Counties.Kansas State University, $1,484,215, Kansas State University will enhance digital literacy and access in rural Kansas communities. The project seeks to bridge the digital divide by distributing Chromebooks to elementary, middle, and high school students within Kansas State University’s Rural Education Center support network.&nbsp;Goals include promoting science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education and ensuring sustained technology use through durable devices and support.Kansas City Kansas Community College (KCKCC), $239,400KCKCC will provide access to 350 laptops to students receiving Pell Grants, eliminating a waiting list of 40-plus students each semester. Salina Central releases names of students on second semester honor roll

The Salina Fire Department is proud to announce the graduation of four exceptional fire cadets and the addition of an experienced lateral transfer to its ranks. The graduation ceremony will be held on Friday, June 14, 2024, at 2:30 PM at the Salina Fire Station #1, 222 W. Elm St.

According to SFD, these cadets have successfully completed an intensive training program, including fire suppression techniques, emergency medical response, hazardous materials handling, and community fire safety education.

Their journey has been one of rigorous training, teamwork, and personal growth. The Salina Fire Department is honored to welcome them as fully-fledged firefighters, ready to respond to the needs of our community.

The Salina Fire Department is also delighted to welcome Firefighter Paramedic Kenneth Ricardez, who joins the department with five years of experience in the fire and emergency medical service.

Cadets with the SFD have shown remarkable dedication and resilience throughout their training. They are now prepared to face the challenges and rewards of a career in fire service.

SFD said it is equally excited to have Kenneth Ricardez join us and bring his experience and skills to our department. The graduation ceremony will symbolize the official entry of these cadets into the Salina Fire Department family.

Family members, friends, and civic leaders are invited to join the SFD in celebrating this momentous occasion.

910 KINA Saturday Morning Show Lineup

Abilene is preparing to welcome a captivating new exhibit to its cultural scene. The "See Kansas" exhibit will be showcased at the Abilene Public Library from June 1 to August 7.

"We are truly excited to be able to display the "See Kansas" exhibit in the Jordan Room at the library this summer," said Library Director Wendy Moulton. "Our 2024 Summer Reading theme for all ages is Adventure Begins at Your Library, and the travel poster-inspired art on display will encourage everyone to enjoy and explore our wonderful state and community."

Produced by Parks and Green Spaces&nbsp;Art Projects, the exhibit features the work of nine artists from across the state, celebrating iconic and historic Kansas landscapes. Among these is the latest addition, "See Abilene," highlighting many aspects that contribute to Abilene being recognized as the Best Historic Small Town.

"The "See Kansas" Art Project spotlights some of the most beautiful outdoor spaces in the state," says Mary Gage, director of the project. "Nine Kansas artists were challenged to channel the beloved style of the National Parks Posters of the 1930s and '40s and produce unique new images for Kansans of favorite Kansas places. We're looking forward to sharing the exhibit of the artwork, as well as the new "See Abilene" poster, created in a similar style, with the community of Abilene this summer."

Visitors are encouraged to attend a special sneak peek unveiling of the "See Abilene" at the Abilene Public Library on Thursday, May 30, at 4 p.m.

"We are thrilled to collaborate with the Abilene Public Library and Parks and Green Spaces to bring this series to our community," said Julie Roller Weeks, Abilene Convention and Visitors Bureau director. "The "See Kansas" series pieces are beautiful, and we're proud to add 'See Abilene' to its collection."

Copies of the "See Abilene" piece will be available for purchase at the Abilene Visitors Center.&nbsp;

Andera “Andi” Valentina (Newton) Allmond of El Dorado, Kansas breathed her last on Thursday, May 23, 2024 at the age of 53. She was born to Ira and Willa Dean Newton on November 2, 1970. Andi was married to Wayne Allmond on July 4, 1990 in Wichita, Kansas. Andi loved the sunshine, having a good tan, spending time outdoors, and time with her grandchildren. She could find beauty in anything and collected rocks and seashells while fishing, one of her favorite pastimes that she liked to share with anyone who'd join. She is survived by her husband; children, Terry Allmond and Tiffany (Carson) McKeen; grandchildren, Brody McQueen, Briggs McQueen, and Emerly McKeen; sister, Shawna (Ted) Ash. The family will have a private celebration of life at a later time.

Linda Lou (Siebert) Campbell February 17, 1945 ~ May 29, 2024

She was Born to Rex Siebert and Olga (Stucklick) February 17, 1945 in Marion, Kansas. Linda married Duane Haselhorst in 1965.&nbsp; She was widowed with three sons in 1968: Roger, David (Shellie) and Darren (Carlene). In 1969, Linda met Bob (Robert Campbell).&nbsp; She accredited her guardian angel for sending him to her, and married him that same year. They were blessed with two children, Krista (Jim DeMars) and Matthew (Tina) both of Salina. The Haselhorst family fully embraced their marriage. Linda is preceded in death by her parents and stepmother, Vernolis, and a half brother, David Tsumpes, and many in-laws on both sides of the family.

She is survived by her sister in-law Norma Campbell (Price), brother Ladd Siebert (Mary Jo) of South Dakota, brother John Siebert (Marianne) Florence, KS; half-brothers William Tsumpes (TX) and Brad Tsumpes(CA); sisters and brother in-laws of the Haselhorst family, Ellis County, KS, Doris Zimmerman (Carl), Donetta Lang (Donny), Debbie Hatfield (Glen dec.), Irvin (JR) Haselhorst (Gail), Eddie Schuckman (Roberta dec.), Dale Haselhorst (Shelley); grandchildren, Duane and Savonnah Haselhorst, Grant, Kasey and Emily DeMars, Keni, Ty (Mabyn) Campbell, K-Lee and Aaron (Waters) Shaye and Vallen Haselhorst; three great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Linda also had a beautiful circle of women to call friends.

Linda was a homemaker and had a home-based plaster business. She was employed by Advance Auto parts in the 1980s until her retirement. Over the past 40 years, Linda’s lifelong passion has been towards the care and protection of the unborn and their mothers. Her volunteer work as the Director of Birthright has helped hundreds of women and children in our community. Linda has been an active member of St. Mary Queen of the Universe Parish her whole adult life.

The visitation will be Thursday, June 6 at Ryan Mortuary from 4-8 p.m. with a rosary vigil at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, June 7 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Queen of the Universe Catholic Church 230 E. Cloud, Salina, with Fr. Kevin Weber, as celebrant.&nbsp; A burial will follow at All Saints Cemetery.

Linda married Duane Haselhorst in 1965.&nbsp; She was widowed with three sons in 1968: Roger, David (Shellie) and Darren (Carlene). In 1969, Linda met Bob (Robert Campbell).&nbsp; She accredited her guardian angel for sending him to her, and married him that same year. They were blessed with two children, Krista (Jim DeMars) and Matthew (Tina) both of Salina. The Haselhorst family fully embraced their marriage. On Wednesday, May 29, a Salina man was injured after he crashed his motorcycle in rural Saline County. 

Saline County Sheriff Roger Soldan told Salina Post this morning that the accident occurred in the evening on May 29 and involved one motorcycle.

When the accident occurred, Logan Sullivan, 25, of Salina, was riding his motorcycle southbound on Burma Road with other motorcyclists.&nbsp;

"A red 2023 Ducati motorcycle was southbound on Burma Road, where it struck some gravel, lost control, and went off into the west ditch," Soldan said. "The deputy noted he had road rash on his arms and back."

According to Soldan, one of the other motorcyclists called the Saline County Sheriff's office to report the accident. EMS transported Sullivan to Salina Regional Health Center for treatment of his injuries. 

Soldan said Sullivan was wearing a helmet when the accident occurred.

Betty Jean (Humbarger) Bolte died Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.

Betty was born June 20, 1930, in Salina to Lee and Minnie (Walle) Humbarger.

Ernst and Betty were united in marriage on July 17, 1949, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Salina. Betty was a member of the Culver United Methodist Church where she served as a board member. For many years, she made the communion bread that she helped serve the first Sunday of the month. Betty was an active member of the church’s quilting group helping to make a quilt each year for the After Harvest Festival. Her love of baking found her providing homemade pies for farm sale luncheons, funeral dinners, and the After Harvest Festival. Betty was first a helpmate to Ernst and mother to Steve and Glenice and worked tirelessly during harvest to provide a homecooked meal at noon and in whatever field they were working in at the time.&nbsp; She rushed to do chores and then back to the field again with more food at 4:00 P.M. to serve what was called “lunch.”&nbsp; Betty was employed at Nickerson Farms, located off I-70 and the Culver Road as a waitress for 11 years. She enjoyed serving neighbors as well as those traveling on I-70 to their destinations.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Ernst; parents; brother, Milford Humbarger and his wife, Ivagene; and grandson, Duane Lee Bolte.

Survivors are her son, Steve Bolte and his wife, Chris; daughter, Glenice Cox and her husband, Michael; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Monday, June 3, 2024, from 5;00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at Wilson Family Funeral Home, Minneapolis, with Pastor Tom Corman officiating. Burial will be in Crown Point Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Culver United Methodist Church and left in care of Wilson Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 166, Minneapolis, KS 67467.
