WICHITA, Kan. (August 27, 2025)—Kala’i Rosario ended his night a single shy of the cycle in an 8-5 victory for the Wichita Wind Surge over the Arkansas Travelers at Equity Bank Park. After jumping ahead with four runs in the third inning, the Wind Surge kept the Travelers at bay with timely scoring and strong pitching out of the bullpen.&nbsp;

The win vaults the Wind Surge ahead of Arkansas in the standings.&nbsp; Wichita is tied with NW Arkansas for third place, two back of Tulsa for a potential playoff spot with 16 games to play, 11 at home.&nbsp; Wichita will host Tulsa next week.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;

Bill Knight brought in Hogan Windish on an RBI single to left field in the top of the third. Wichita responded by sending all nine men to the plate and scoring four runs on four hits in the home half of the frame. The four runs came in on a solo shot by Rosario, an RBI single by Rubel Cespedes, and a two-run line drive knock to right by Jose Salas.&nbsp;Hendry Mendez brought in a fifth Wind Surge run on a single in the next inning to give Wichita a 5-1 lead through four innings.

Arkansas put up a crooked number of their own with three runs in the top of the fifth, with the big hit of the frame being a two-run shot to left-center by Hunter Fitz-Gerald.

Kaelen Culpepper yanked an RBI single into left field to gift a 6-4 lead to the Wind Surge in the bottom of the fifth inning.&nbsp;A double steal allowed Blake Rambusch to score for the Travelers in the top of the seventh and make it a one-run game just before the stretch.&nbsp;

Mendez pulled a run-scoring double inside the first base line, with Andrew Cossetti following with a single that deflected into left field to score Mendez in the bottom of the eighth inning for an 8-5 advantage that later became the final score.

Mike Paredes finished with two no-hit innings, a walk, and two strikeouts to record his fourth save of the season. Ryan Gallagher earned the win as the Wichita starter to improve to 3-1 in Double-A. Over five innings, he gave up four earned runs on six hits with three walks and five strikeouts.&nbsp;

Wind Surge Outslug Travelers

The US National Weather Service has issued a "Flood Watch" throughout parts of Central Kansas until Thursday afternoon.

According to the US National Weather Service (Wichita, KS), many locations in Central Kansas are expected to see heavy rainfall tonight (Wednesday, August 27) and into Thursday morning, with some areas likely observing over 2 inches.

Salina is listed to have a 77% chance of rainfall over 1 inch and low chance for it to be over 2 inches.

Wichita is listed to have 62% chance, while Hutchinson a 47% chance of rainfall to be over 2 inches.&nbsp;

Saline County Emergency Management is informing county residents to prepare for at least two rounds of thunderstorms. The first round this Wednesday afternoon is expected to be less severe. 

However, a stronger system is forecast to move in late tonight (Wednesday) through Thursday morning with a higher risk of heavy rainfall and localized flooding.

Three day weather forecast Salina, August 27 - August 29

WICHITA, Kan. (August 26, 2025)—Jaylen Nowlin, John Stankiewicz, Hunter Hoopes, and Kade Bragg held Arkansas to a hit over the final four frames in a 5-3 Wichita Wind Surge win over the Arkansas Travelers at Equity Bank Park. 

The win for the Wind Surge snaps a five game winning streak that the Travelers entered the week with.&nbsp;Kala’i Rosario hit the third of three opposite-field singles to right field in the bottom of the third inning to drive in Wichita’s first run. Andrew Cossetti later worked a bases-loaded walk to give the Wind Surge a 2-0 lead.&nbsp;

Caleb Cali smashed a no-doubt go-ahead three run home run to left field in the top of the fifth to push Arkansas out in front 3-2.&nbsp;Jake Rucker tied the game with an RBI double off the top of the wall near the left field corner in the bottom of the sixth inning. 

A groundout to the pitcher from Nate Baez and a run-scoring Ben Ross single to left put Wichita ahead 5-3 after the stretch in the seventh.&nbsp;Starting in the sixth innings, the Wind Surge bullpen began to stretch a lights out display on the mound, with four pitchers combining to give up just one hit over the final four frames.

OPENING STATEMENT:&nbsp;“All right. So, the guys that won’t practice today are (Jack) Cochrane, Omarr (Norman-Lott) and Jalen Royals. But Cochrane and Omarr are doing - they're all doing a good job, and they're probably a little closer than Jalen is. Always a tough day as we go forward through today, we haven’t officially done anything. So, I can't answer any questions on who's here and who's not, you know. Q: How do you handle practice on a day like this when it is the cut deadline?

REID:&nbsp;“Yeah, you – well, you'll see it out there, part of it at least. So, we go about it. How's that for an answer (laughter)? We'll have a good one today.”

Q: When you went back and watched the film from the preseason game, what stood out about the offensive line as a group?

REID:&nbsp;“Yeah, you know Sam (McDowell) I thought they did a good job. They, against a good – what I think is a pretty solid defensive line (and) defensive front – I thought they held their own. They blitzed a little bit. So, it gives you an idea versus a blitz. You know they were able to handle that pretty good and going in the right direction in the run game. But I thought overall, I thought they did a pretty nice job after looking at (the film).”

Q: On Kingsley Suamataia on the offensive line.

REID:&nbsp;“Yeah, I just think the more he's able to play next to Josh (Simmons), I think is important. There's got to be communication there. And so, Josh is new, and Kingsley (Suamataia) knows all this stuff, is just making sure that his partner, sidekick (has) got it and then, you know, Creed (Humphrey) inside, working with Creed and Creed making his call. So, you’re kind of in the middle of those three when you're sitting in that spot, you got to be able to listen a little bit and at the same time be able to make your own calls. And I thought he (Kingsley Suamataia), I thought he did good. I think the more reps he gets in there, the better he’ll get.”

Q: On bringing Derrick Nnadi back.

REID:&nbsp;“Yeah, I think just a good inside player and you can't really have enough of those guys. He knows the system. So, getting back in there I think is a positive, and (General Manager) Brett (Veach) we're always a little heavy on O-line and D-line. I mean that's normally just to make sure we've got those areas filled.”

Q:&nbsp;What do you think makes this place unique when it comes to scouting guys, figuring out who is going to be on the roster and potentially getting new guys in the building?

REID:&nbsp;“Yeah, I think (General Manager) Brett (Veach), he's the best in the business. I think if you ask around the league and you probably get a lot of yes, he's really good at what he does. And he's, I think the best thing he does, he communicates with everybody. Not only does he have a good eye for talent, but he talks to the coaches. He utilizes his staff and trusts them. And you end up with a product – he has to make that final decision. But it's still, he's using people making sure he covers all the bases that way.”

Q:&nbsp;How do you think the first-team offense performed in the last preseason game?

WORTHY:&nbsp;“I think we came out with a lot of excitement. I feel like that has just kinda been the moral of the group. Everybody came out juiced (and) ready. We didn’t want to come out (of the game because) we were having so much fun. That’s just our core right now. (Head Coach Andy) Reid says all the time, ‘let your personality show’ and I feel like we’re letting that happen.”

Q:&nbsp;On the team’s confidence heading into this season.

WORTHY:&nbsp;“I feel like things didn’t end how we wanted to last year and guys like Chris (Jones) said it well in the locker room, ‘How are we going to get better (and) how are you going to adapt and thrive off the situation? Are you going to come back better or are you going to come back still soggy or mad that you lost?’ A lot of guys in the offseason came back with a chip on their shoulder (and are) more conditioned and ready to work.”

Q:&nbsp;Did you feel things open up differently with a collection of elite receivers on the field compared to last year?

WORTHY:&nbsp;“I feel like definitely, for sure. In the preseason it is a little bit different from year two to year one. I was more comfortable. I was moving faster earlier on. It all just clicked, and everybody was working and moving how they were supposed to.”

Q: Have you reached out to Derrick Nnadi since his return to the Chiefs?

DANNA:&nbsp;“Yeah, he’s (Derrick Nnadi) here now. I think that’s a great thing. Blessings for him. I think anytime you can bring a veteran leader like him, a guy who is knowledgeable about the game (and) also knowledgeable about the system. He had a lot of success in this system (in) previous years, he spent his last seven years here, so I’m happy to see him back. There was a big smile on his face when he got here so Nnadi hasn’t changed. (He’s) still the same guy. We’re lucky to have him again.”

Q: How do you feel about how the defense played in the first half of the Bears game?

DANNA:&nbsp;“We knew we had a challenge. Our second preseason game wasn’t the showing we really wanted to have. It was a nasty taste in our mouth. That whole week we were emphasizing during practice on locking in, coming out aggressive and showing how our defense plays. I feel like that first half was a good little glimpse. I’m excited for some more action coming up (and) getting up there and balling with those guys. That was definitely a response to our second preseason game and that’s how we want every game to be. We want to set a tone from the jump and that’s how we execute.”

NASHVILLE (AP) —Cracker Barrel is sticking with its new logo but apologizing to fans who were angered when the change was announced last week.

“If the last few days have shown us anything, it's how deeply people care about Cracker Barrel. We're truly grateful for your heartfelt voices,” the company said Monday in a statement on its website. “You've also shown us that we could have done a better job sharing who we are and who we'll always be.”

The change was part of a wider rebrand, which has seen Cracker Barrel update its cluttered, antique-filled restaurants with lighter paint and modern furniture.

Many on social media, including Donald Trump Jr., criticized the new logo, with some threatening to boycott unless it was changed back. Sensing an opening, the rival chain Steak n' Shake called the new logo “a cheap effort to gain the approval of trend seekers.”

“Heritage is what got Cracker Barrel this far, and now the CEO wants to just scrape it all away,” Steak n' Shake said in a statement on X.

Cracker Barrel shares have dropped more than 10% since the new logo was introduced on Aug. 18.

On Monday, the Lebanon, Tennessee-based company emphasized that many things about Cracker Barrel won't change, including the rocking chairs on its front porches and vintage Americana and antiques scattered throughout its restaurants.

Cracker Barrel also said it will continue to honor Uncle Herschel — the older man in the former logo, who represents the uncle of Cracker Barrel's founder — on its menu and on items sold in its stores.

But Cracker Barrel said it also wants to make sure that the business stays fresh and attracts a new generation of customers.

“That means showing up on new platforms and in new ways, but always with our heritage at the heart,” the company said in a statement.

The company said it will also keep testing, learning and listening to its employees and customers.

Cracker Barrel shares fell less than 1% to close at $54.26 per share Monday.

• All Wells did during his first season on staff was tutor Avery Johnson to a school-record 25 touchdown passes, while his sophomore signal caller ranked fifth in school history in passing yards (2,985) and completions (238).

• Wells and Johnson helped guide a K-State offense that finished in the top 15 nationally in four categories and in the top 10 of school history in 15 game or season categories.

TOTAL OFFENSE• K-State has totaled at least 375 yards of offense in 33 of the last 41 games dating back to the beginning of the 2022 season.

• The 33 games with at least 375 yards are tied for eighth among Power 4 programs and second among Big 12 schools. Georgia leads the way with 36, followed by LSU, Oregon, TCU, Texas and USC with 34, while Washington is at 33.

• During that stretch, K-State holds a 26-7 record when totaling at least 375 yards, while the Wildcats are 2-6 when going under that mark.RED ZONE SUCCESS• Since Chris Klieman’s first season at K-State in 2019, the Wildcats have been the best in the Big 12 in terms of converting red-zone opportunities into points.

WINNING FROM A YOUNG AGE• Despite only starting 15 career games, Avery Johnson has led the Wildcats to 10 wins to rank 11 in school history in wins among K-State signal callers since 1990.

• Additionally, his 67.7% winning percentage ranks ninth among those that have started at least 10 games.

ONE OF A SELECT FEW• Avery Johnson was one of only five players in the nation and one of three from Power 4 schools to record at least 2,700 passing yards and 600 rushing yards in 2024. He was joined on that list by Jalen Milroe (Alabama), Taylen Green (Arkansas), Devon Dampier (New Mexico), Riley Leonard (Notre Dame) and John Mateer (Washington State).

• Additionally, Johnson was one of nine signal callers nationally with at least 25 passing touchdowns and seven rushing touchdowns. The others to hit those marks were Cade Klubnik (Clemson), Rocco Becht (Iowa State), Alonza Barnett III (James Madison), Will Howard (Ohio State), Dillon Gabriel (Oregon), Jordan McCloud (Texas State), Caden Veltkamp (Western Kentucky) and Mateer.

MIDLAND, Texas (August 23, 2025)—Nate Baez slugged a three-run triple in the 7-3 win for the Wichita Wind Surge over the Midland Rockhounds at Momentum Bank Ballpark. C.J. Culpepper also earned his first Double-A victory with five shutout innings as the Wind Surge starter.

After Midland loaded the bases on three walks in the bottom of the first inning, Baez and Andrew Cossetti connected on a 3-2-3 double play, and Culpepper struck out Luke Mann to leave the jam unscathed. 

Culpepper would later finish with five shutout frames alongside three hits, four walks, and six strikeouts in his first win of the season.&nbsp;Ben Ross drove in the game’s first run on a sacrifice fly to right field in the top of the second to put Wichita on the board. 

Kala’i Rosario added two more runs on a double to left field three innings later to give the Wind Surge a 3-0 lead.&nbsp;Joshua Kuroda-Grauer hit an RBI single to right to give Midland their first run in the home half of the sixth before Wichita added four more runs in the top of the seventh on a bases-clearing triple by Baez and a run-scoring knock from Ross, giving the Wind Surge a 7-1 advantage heading into the stretch.&nbsp;

Tommy White hit a homer to right field; then the RockHounds got another run in the bottom of the eighth on an infield groundout to bring themselves within four, but Mike Paredes settled down and finished the night by striking out Mann looking to finish a 7-3 Wichita victory.

On top of the late-game outburst, the Wind Surge bullpen gave up just one hit over the final four and one-third innings of the ballgame.&nbsp;

Midland struck first on back-to-back RBI singles by Joshua Kuroda-Grauer and Cole Conn in the bottom of the second inning for a 2-0 RockHounds lead.

WASHINGTON (AP) —&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/epstein-maxwell-justice-department-interview-053ad2ae16f31b9d7300340d5f9349c5">Jeffrey Epstein's imprisoned former girlfriend</a>&nbsp;repeatedly denied to the Justice Department witnessing any sexually inappropriate interactions with Donald Trump, according to records released Friday meant to distance the Republican president from the disgraced financer.

The Trump administration issued hundreds of pages of transcripts from interviews that Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche conducted with Ghislaine Maxwell last month as the administration was scrambling to present itself as transparent amid a fierce backlash&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/jeffrey-epstein-justice-department-pam-bondi-03fbcd024f631440f7ed62b3c6927db3">over an earlier refusal to disclose a trove of records from the sex-trafficking case.</a>

The records show Maxwell repeatedly showering Trump with praise and denying under questioning from Blanche that she had observed Trump engaged in any form of sexual behavior. The administration was presumably eager to make such denials public at a time when the president has faced questions about a long-ago friendship with Epstein and as his administration has endured continued scrutiny over its handling of evidence from the case.

The transcript disclosure represents the latest Trump administration effort to repair self-inflicted political wounds after failing to&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/trump-epstein-conspiracy-theories-bondi-bongino-fbi-a143076353acbc1193cb9697e7fc4a90">deliver on expectations that its own officials had created</a>&nbsp;through conspiracy theories and bold pronouncements that never came to pass. By making public two days worth of interviews, officials appear to be hoping to at least temporarily keep at bay sustained anger from Trump’s base even as they send Congress evidence that they had previously kept from view.

“I actually never saw the President in any type of massage setting,” Maxwell said, according to the transcript. “I never witnessed the President in any inappropriate setting in any way. The President was never inappropriate with anybody. In the times that I was with him, he was a gentleman in all respects.”

Maxwell recalled knowing about Trump and possibly meeting him for the first time in 1990, when her newspaper magnate father, Robert Maxwell, was the owner of the New York Daily News.

She estimated that she hadn’t seen Trump since the mid-2000s, again in a social setting. Asked if she ever heard Epstein or anyone else say Trump “had done anything inappropriate with masseuses” or anyone else in their orbit, Maxwell replied, “Absolutely never, in any context.”

Maxwell, a onetime socialite who was convicted in 2021 of helping lure teenage girls to be sexually abused by Epstein, was interviewed over the course of two days last month by Blanche at a Florida courthouse.

Blanche prefaced the interview by saying Maxwell had been given limited immunity, allowing her to speak freely without fear of prosecution for anything she said. The only exceptions, he said, were if she lied or gave statements inconsistent with what she’d previously said.

After her interview,&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/epstein-ghislaine-maxwell-justice-department-prison-27d53cd22f8c53d9f2b5012cea32eb5e">Maxwell was moved from the low-security federal prison in Florida</a>&nbsp;where she had been serving a 20-year sentence to a minimum-security prison camp in Texas. Neither her lawyer nor the federal Bureau of Prisons have explained the reason for the move.

The Epstein case had long captured public attention in part because of the&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/jeffrey-epstein-documents-prince-andrew-harvey-weinstein-1e20f426af0c610db7963cdaf85c209f">wealthy financer’s social connections over the years to prominent figures</a>, including Prince Andrew, former President Bill Clinton and Trump, who has said his relationship with Epstein ended years before. Epstein was arrested in 2019 on sex-trafficking charges, accused of sexually abusing dozens of teenage girls, and was&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/jeffrey-epstein-jail-suicide-prison-death-8d194a756f2b429067f009a0c70f96c0">found dead a month later in a New York jail cell in what investigators described as a suicide.</a>

The saga has consumed the Trump administration over the last month following an abrupt two-page announcement from the FBI and Justice Department that Epstein had killed himself despite conspiracy theories to the contrary, that a “client list” that Attorney General Pam Bondi had intimated was on her desk did not actually exist and that no additional documents from the high-profile investigation were suitable to be released.

The announcement produced outrage from conspiracy theorists, online sleuths and Trump supporters who had been hoping to see proof of a government coverup. That expectation was driven in part by comments from officials, including FBI Director Kash Patel and Dan Bongino, who on podcasts before taking their current positions had repeatedly promoted the idea that damaging details about prominent people were being withheld.

Patel, for instance, said in at least one podcast interview before becoming director that Epstein’s “black book” was under the “direct control of the director of the FBI.”

The administration had an early stumble in February when far-right influencers were&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/jeffrey-epstein-files-pam-bondi-trump-1a6af3e9fa1cfb6d267985a971a4929a">invited to the White House in February</a>&nbsp;and provided by Bondi with binders marked “The Epstein Files: Phase 1” and “Declassified” that contained documents that had largely already been in the public domain.

After the first release fell flat, Bondi said officials were poring over a “truckload” of previously withheld evidence she said had been handed over by the FBI and raised expectations of forthcoming releases.

But after a weekslong review of evidence in the government’s possession, the Justice Department said last month that no “further disclosure would be appropriate or warranted.” The department noted that much of the material was placed under seal by a court to protect victims and “only a fraction” of it “would have been aired publicly had Epstein gone to trial.”

Faced with fury from his base, Trump sought to quickly turn the page, shutting down questioning of Bondi about Epstein at a White House Cabinet meeting and deriding as “weaklings” supporters who he said were falling for the “Jeffrey Epstein Hoax.”

The kerfuffle also created bitter divisions within the administration, as Bondi and Bongino angrily clashed at a White House meeting last month. Bongino was uncharacteristically silent on social media for several days after that.
