There is no better way to kick off summer than enjoying and learning from a beautiful garden.  Come join us on the 2024 CKD Extension Master Gardener Garden Tour in the Salina area on Saturday, June 8th from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The 2024 Garden Tour consists of five wonderful private gardens and the CKD Master Gardener Demonstration Garden.  Tickets for the tour are $20 and children 12 and under are free.  Tickets are available on June 8th at any of the gardens on the tour or can be purchased before the tour at Waters Hardware & Garden Store, or the K-State Extension office.

Here are the five private gardens that have graciously allowed us to visit this year:

The Baxa Garden (631 Briarcliff Road, Salina):  This garden is a ‘Backyard Garden Medley’ and here you’ll discover a peaceful and relaxing design of garden rooms that maximizes every opportunity.  From the beautiful and productive vegetables to the perennial and annual flowers, you’ll be inspired with ideas for your own space.  Don’t miss the beautiful pond, pocket prairie, and unique rain garden.

The Dolan Garden (104 W. Lake Drive, Salina):  We call this garden ‘Farm to Table’ for good reason.  You will find an organized and productive garden with a fantastic array of vegetables, flowers, and much more.  From the greenhouse to the garden to the table, this garden will inspire your own edible and flower gardening.

The Freelove Garden (835 Highland Ave., Salina):  This delightful garden is called the ‘Family Fun Palace’ and is perfectly designed to be both fun and relaxing.  The beauty of the garden speaks for itself. You’ll enjoy an amazing front porch, fountains, beautiful container arrangement, yard art, and much more.  Don’t miss any spot in this amazing space.

The Sammons Garden (845 E. Minneapolis Ave., Salina):  This garden is called ‘Summertime Blues’ and the cobalt blue theme throughout the garden is just one of the many beautiful features that you’ll love.  This small space has truly been transformed into an oasis of both beauty and fun.  From the newly renovated pond to the party bar to the she-shed and elf garden, this a truly one-of-a-kind garden.

The Reeves Garden (113 W. 2nd Road, Assaria, KS):  This is the ‘Garden on the Prairie’ and is truly a peaceful garden sanctuary that abounds with gardener resourcefulness and creativity.  You’ll enjoy the incorporation of original painting, repurposed objects, unique containers and yard art that blend beautifully with water features and beautiful plantings.

The Demonstration Garden (across from Kenwood Cove):  The Master Gardener Demonstration Garden is a public garden maintained by Master Gardeners and contains a wide variety of plants in each of the themed garden areas which have similar water, light, and maintenance requirements related to each gardening style.  Don’t miss the chance to walk through this beautiful public garden for ideas and inspiration for your own landscape.

We will have vendors at each garden with unique items for sale.  Vendors include:  Sunflower Follies by Meghan Hessman, Findings by Deon, The Clay Studio @ Bison Brae, Seriously Fun Art by Curt Krob, Designs by Mary Freelove, Red Raven Creations by Alex Shaw,  Creative Containers, Live Plants & Paintings by Chuck and Barbara Culley, Dyck Arboretum of Hesston (native plants for sale), and 2nd Chance Designs by Mike & Sandy King.

Money raised by this tour goes toward expansion and maintenance of the Master Gardeners Public Demonstration Garden in Salina and other Master Gardener community projects including Children’s Gardens, horticulture awards at the Tri-Rivers Fair, Master Gardener outreach events, and more. Thank you for your support.
