Sacred Heart Sweeps Republic County in Belleville

Sacred Heart traveled to Belleville on Friday night and, although both the games started off reasonably competitively, in the end, the Knights earned their second doubleheader sweep over the Buffs this season.

Sacred Heart Girls 51, Republic County 33

There was no 20-0 opening run to start this game as there was in the first meeting. Republic County scored first and held a couple of early leads, but trailed 10-7 after the opening quarter.

As the game progressed, quarter-by-quarter the Lady Knights added to their lead. Sacred Heart led by eight points at halftime, 10 points after the third quarter, and won the game by a final score of 51-33.

Skylar Douglas led Sacred Heart with 18 points. Katie Weiss added 13 in limited minutes on the floor and Avery Eshleman scored nine.

Sacred Heart is now 12-7 overall and 4-5 in the NCAA league.

Sacred Heart Boys 89, Republic County 30

Sacred Heart started off with some hot shooting, putting up 28 first quarter points, and never looked back.

The Knights had already built a 47-15 advantage by halftime.   In a bit of irony, with 4:47 left in the third quarter, the score was 64-17. That was the exact final score of the first meeting between the two teams.

Sacred Heart led 80-23 after three quarters en route to an 89-30 victory with a continuously running clock in the fourth quarter.

Six different Sacred Heart players scored double-figures in points. Eleven Knights saw playing time and every one of them scored at least two points. Sacred Heart improves to 16-3 overall and are now 6-3 in the NCAA league.

The Knights will now head home for a boys and girls twinbill and their final regular season games of the season.on Tuesday night. Sacred Heart will host Ellsworth on Senior Night.
