Salina was cooler and drier than normal in March.
According to information from the National Weather Service in Wichita, the average monthly temperature at the Salina Regional Airport was 42.8 degrees, which was 2.5 degrees cooler than average. It was the coolest March since 2019.
The warmest daily temperature was 76 degrees on March 5, and the coolest was 9 degrees on March 19.
The record high for March was 96 degrees on March 21, 1907. The record low was -11 on March 11, 1948.
Salina also was drier than normal in March. According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, the official precipitation total for Salina was only 0.42 of an inch. That amount was 1.40 inches below average, making March 2023 in Salina the 15th driest March since records began in 1900, and the driest since 2015.
March 31 proved to be the windiest day of the month, with both the highest wind speed (44 mph) and the highest wind gust (58 mph) both recorded on that day.
