Lorene Helen (Chanay) Stockard

Lorene Helen Chanay Stockard, Princeton, KS was born on November 16, 1932 to Artie and Helen (King) Chanay, in Lawrence, KS. She attended Wellsville High School graduating in 1950. She grew up attending Wellsville Baptist Church, where she was then baptized in 1944. Lorene and Melvin Stockard were united in marriage on May 18, 1952 at the Wellsville Baptist Church. They moved to rural Princeton, where she resided until her death. She was a member of the Richmond United Methodist Church since 1953. Three children were born to this union, Ronald Keith, Rodney Dale, and Lori Diane. Lorene's first job was at Eddie's Casual Shoppe. She was a bookkeeper at Princeton Grain Company, which she and Melvin owned for 17 years. She also did bookkeeping for New Life Trucking and Franklin County Rural Water District. She was a Longaberger Consultant for 16 years. Lorene held many responsibilities while attending the Richmond United Methodist Church including being President of UMW, founder of JOY group, and participated in many mission trips by sharing the gospel through Vacation Bible School. She was also a member of Beta Sigma Phi Chapter for 60 years reaching the degree of Xi Masters. Lorene is survived by her children, Ronald (Karla) Stockard, and Lori (Larry) Brockus. Eight grandchildren, Jeremy Brockus, Lucas (Heather) Brockus, Lynsey (Corey) Ellis, Ryan Stockard, Kala (Jake) Gill, Katelyn (Austin) Durst, Olivia Stockard, and Paige Stockard. She was a Great Grandmother to twelve and Great-Great Grandmother to four, and had a special Swedish granddaughter, Maria Larsson. She is also survived by her sister, Mary Ryburn, and brother, Larry (Julia) Chanay, brother-in-law, Bernard Stovall, and sister-in-laws, Helen and Betty Chanay. Lorene is proceeded in death by her husband of 60 years, Melvin Stockard; son, Rodney Stockard; grandson, Kristopher Stockard; parents, Artie and Helen Chanay; brothers, Merle, Keith, Marlin Chanay; sister Leila Stovall. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 20, 2024 at Ottawa Bible Church, Ottawa, KS. Interment will follow at Princeton Cemetery, Princeton, KS. The family will receive friends for a visitation 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Lamb-Roberts-Price Funeral Home, Ottawa, KS.
