According to the Salina Police Department (SPD) on June 2 along with the Salina Fire Department (SFD), a joint search warrant operation was conducted at a south-central home.

During the search, devices were suspected of being homemade fireworks and explosives, and numerous chemicals were seized.

Those devices and chemicals were removed from the scene by Explosive Ordinance Disposal technicians and disposed of. The State Fire Marshal, Riley County Police Department Explosive Ordinance Disposal and SFD HazMat assisted in carrying out the operation.

Christopher Leger (33) of Salina was arrested in connection with the search warrant investigation.

Leger was booked into the Saline County Jail on two requested charges of Arson. He is also suspected of damaging an unoccupied residence by fire or explosion, associated with separate incidents.

This investigation is ongoing with the possibility of more charges forthcoming.

SPD and SFD would like to thank the assisting agencies, as well as the Kansas Department of Transportation and Salina community members, for their assistance in this investigation.
