UPDATE: NWS issues winter weather advisories for our area

UPDATE: The National Weather Service has updated the snow total forecasts.

UPDATE: Winter weather advisories have now been issued for all counties in our area.

In addition to the upcoming freeze watches, all counties in our area also are under winter weather advisories because of expected snowfall.

The National Weather Service in Wichita has issued a winter weather advisory in effect from midnight to 10 a.m. Tuesday for the following counties in our area.

Ellsworth County

Lincoln County

Marion County

McPherson County

Saline County

Snow is expected with total snow accumulations of 1 to 4 inches. Higher snow accumulations of 3 to 6 inches possible along the Interstate 70 corridor.

Most of the snow accumulation will occur on grassy surfaces with snow expected to melt off during the afternoon. Besides the snowfall, sub-freezing temperatures are expected early Tuesday morning, which could kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.

Plan on slushy roadways with isolated slick spots. The hazardous conditions could impact the early morning commute. Slow down and use caution while traveling.

The National Weather Service in Hastings, Neb., has issued a winter weather advisory in effect from 10 p.m. Monday to 7 a.m. Tuesday for the following counties in our area.

Jewell County

Mitchell County

Snow is expected. Total snow accumulations of 3 to 5 inches are forecast, with locally higher amounts possible across north central Kansas. Winds during the snowfall are expected to be northwesterly, with speeds around 10 to 15 mph.

Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning commute.

The National Weather Service in Topeka has issued a winter weather advisory in effect from 10 p.m. Monday to 10 a.m. Tuesday for the following counties in our area.

Clay County

Cloud County

Dickinson County

Ottawa County

Republic County

Snow is forecast to begin late this evening and continue into Tuesday morning. Total snow accumulations of 1 to 2 inches are expected for areas along and south of Interstate 35. 2 to 5 inches of snow are forecast along and north of Interstate 70.  Temperatures are forecast to fall into the upper 20s and lower 30s Tuesday morning. Tender vegetation could be damaged if left unprotected.

Plan on slippery road conditions, especially on bridges and overpasses. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning commute.
