Hello and happy Wednesday everybody, it’s Tyler Henry, back with another KINA Sports Update presented by Salina Regional Orthopedic and Sports Medicine.

_________

On Tuesday Kansas State head coach Jerome Tang added yet another talented wing to his 2024-25 roster with the signing of All-Big Ten selection Coleman Hawkins

A 6-foot-10, 230-pound wing, Hawkins arrives at K-State after spending the last 4 seasons at Illinois, where he was a part of 96 wins, 4 Big Ten Championships and 4 NCAA Tournament appearances, including a run to the Elite Eight in 2023-24.

He was a key part of the Fighting Illini’s first run to the Elite Eight since 2005, leading the team in rebounding, steals, and blocks and ranking third in scoring en route to earning Second Team All-Big Ten honors from the AP.

_________

Last night also saw Zack Gelof hit his first home run in nearly three weeks as the Oakland As beat the Kansas City Royals 7-5 to end a nine-game losing streak.

A moment of silence was held before the game to honor Willie Mays, the Hall of Fame center fielder who died on Tuesday. Mays got the final hit of his illustrious career at the Oakland Coliseum in the 1973 World Series.

The series continues this evening at 8:40 in Oakland
