The Sacred Heart Knights played their third consecutive game away from Salina on Friday night and faced an undefeated Sedgwick Cardinals team on its homecoming night.
The Knights were shutout for the majority of the game until a late touchdown made the final score 39-7 in favor of the Cardinals. Sedgwick is now 5-0 while Sacred Heart falls to 0-4.
Sedgwick led 13-0 after the opening quarter, 27-0 at halftime, and 39-0 after three quarters. Sacred Heart avoided being shutout by scoring with about 3:00 left in the game.
Despite the loss, the Knights have plenty to play for in the final three games of the regular season. Sacred Heart returns home to host Bennington on Friday, then travels to Herington for a Week 7 matchup before facing Republic County on its senior night on October 25th.
With Valley Heights in the driver's seat for the top seed in Class 1A, District 5, Sacred Heart could conceivably earn the second-seed and a district round home game on November 1st with head-to-head wins each of the next three weeks.
The Knights will face the Bennington Bulldogs at 7pm on Friday from JRI Stadium on the campus of Kansas Wesleyan University. The game can been seen and heard at salinapost.com.
