On Wednesday Tarik Skubal allowed just three hits over five innings for his 17th win as the streaking Detroit Tigers beat the Kansas City Royals 4-2 to move within a half game of a playoff spot with 10 games remaining.

Riley Greene hit a go-ahead home run as the Tigers won their fourth straight and ninth in the last 11 games. With the series sweep, Detroit won for the 25th time in 35 games to move within a half game of Minnesota for the third AL wild-card spot.

The Royals still hold a game and a half lead over the Twins but with Detroit in hot pursuit, will need to turn things around in their final nine games.

Wednesday was a great day for Kansas Wesleyan who opened conference play in three sports with a trio of big wins.

For the Coyote volleyball team that came in the form of a triangular sweep, defeating Mission and Sterling in three sets back to back,

Meanwhile on the pitch, the Coyote women’s soccer team collected their first win, shutting out York 2-0 in the conference opener.

The men’s soccer team would do the same, blanking York 2-0 in Nebraska for a crucial win to start conference play

And finally, speaking of men’s soccer earlier this week K-dub’s Mika Wernicke was named KCAC defensive player of the week.
