UPDATE: Red flag warnings issued for more area counties

UPDATE 4:30 p.m. Thursday: More counties in our area now face red flag warnings on Friday.

The National Weather Service in Topeka has moved Dickinson and Ottawa counties into a red flag warning in effect from noon to 9 p.m. Friday. The fire weather watch is no longer in effect.

West to southwest winds sustained at 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph and relative humidity as low as 15 to 30 percent are forecast.

Any fires that develop will spread rapidly. Outdoor burning should not occur.

Additionally, the National Weather Service in Topeka has issued a red flag warning in effect from noon to 9 p.m. Friday for the following counties in our area.

Clay County

Cloud County

Republic County

West to southwest winds sustained at 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph and lowest relative humidity values from 15 to 30 percent.

Any fires that develop will spread rapidly. Outdoor burning should not occur.

A red flag warning and a fire weather watch have been issued for counties in our area.

Red flag warnings

The National Weather Service in Wichita has issued a red flag warning for extreme grassland fire danger in effect from 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Friday for the following counties in our area.

Ellsworth County

Lincoln County

Marion County

McPherson County

Saline County

West winds at 30 to 40 mph, with gusts up to 60 mph, will be strongest over south-central and southeast Kansas. Additionally, relative humidity as low as 15 percent is forecast, with the lowest percentages over southern Kansas.

Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly and become very difficult to control. Outdoor burning is not recommended.

Fire weather watch

The National Weather Service in Topeka has issued a fire weather watch in effect from Friday afternoon through Friday evening for the following counties in our area.

Dickinson County

Ottawa County

West to southwest winds sustained at 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph and lowest relative humidity values from 19 to 32 percent are forecast.

Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.
