Extended heat advisory issued for central, south central, and southeast Kansas

The National Weather Service in Wichita has issued a heat advisory for parts of Central, South Central, and Southeast Kansas, effective from noon today until 8 p.m. CDT this evening. 

A second advisory has been issued for the same time frame on Tuesday.

Counties include Saline, Rice, McPherson, Marion, Reno, Harvey, Butler, Kingman, Sedgwick, Harper, Sumner, Cowley, Chautauqua, Montgomery, and Labette counties.
This includes the cities of Wellington, Augusta, Winfield, Haysville, Sedan, Derby, Hillsboro, Newton, Attica, Peabody, Salina, Marion, Park City, Rose Hill, El Dorado, Harper, Parsons, Lyons, Wichita, Independence, Valley Center, Andover, Arkansas City, Coffeyville, Anthony, Sterling, McPherson, Bel Aire, Hutchinson, Kingman, and Cedar Vale.

The intense heat and humidity increase the risk of heat-related illnesses. To stay safe, the National Weather Service recommends drinking plenty of fluids, staying in air-conditioned environments, avoiding direct sunlight, and checking on relatives and neighbors.

This advisory underscores the importance of taking precautions during this period of extreme heat.
