Extreme cold, winter storm warnings issued for central Kansas

The National Weather Service in Wichita has issued an Extreme Cold Warning for central Kansas, including Salina, beginning midnight tonight through noon Thursday.

What to expect:

Wind chills as low as 25 to 30 below zero.
Increased risk of frostbite on exposed skin within 30 minutes

Residents are advised to dress in layers, cover exposed skin, and limit time outdoors.

Winter storm warning issued for central and southeast Kansas

The National Weather Service in Wichita has issued a Winter Storm Warning for central and southeast Kansas, including Salina, from midnight tonight through 6 a.m. Wednesday.

What to expect:

  1. 5 to 8 inches of snow
  2. Wind gusts up to 35 mph, causing blowing and drifting snow
  3. Hazardous travel conditions, especially during Tuesday's morning and evening commutes
