Hello and happy Thursday everybody, it’s Tyler Henry, back with another KINA Sports Update presented by Salina Regional Orthopedic and Sports Medicine.

On Wednesday the Kansas City Royals completed their second-straight sweep, rolling to a sixth-consecutive victory, as Cole Ragans allowed one hit in six innings and Freddy Fermin drove in three runs to lift the Kansas City Royals over the Tigers 8-3

Ragans struck out a career-best 12 while holding the Tigers hitless until Riley Greene’s two-out single in the sixth, Kansas City is now just a game and a half back of the Guardians for first place in the AL Central

More locally today will mark the official start of state baseball and softball tournaments across the state of Kansas, and four of our area teams will be playing for state titles in their respective classes!

In Class 5A Salina South and Salina Central both find themselves in the baseball bracket, as the 8-seeded Mustangs take on the top seed in Bishop Carrol at 11, and the 7-seeded Cougars battle Pittsburg at 3:30

In Class 4A the 2nd-seeded Abilene Cowboys will square off with Rose Hill at 3:30, that game will be broadcast for free on Salina Post

And on Salina Post you can also find Southeast of Saline softball’s opening round contest against the 3-seed in Frontenac at 5:00
