Additional high wind warnings issued for counties in our area

Additional counties in our area have been placed under high wind warnings.

The National Weather Service in Wichita has issued a wind advisory until 10 p.m. and a high wind warning in effect from midnight to 4 a.m. Tuesday for the following counties in our area.

Ellsworth County

Lincoln County

Saline County

For the wind advisory, south winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph are forecast. For the high wind warning, northwest winds of 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 55 mph expected.

Damaging winds could blow down tree limbs and power lines. Power outages are possible. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

People should avoid being outside in forested areas and around trees and branches. If possible, remain in the lower levels of your home during the windstorm, and avoid windows. Use caution if you must drive.

The National Weather Service in Hastings, Neb., has issued a high wind warning in effect from 7 p.m. Monday to 4 a.m. Tuesday for the following counties in our area.

Jewell County

Mitchell County

North winds with gusts of 50 to 60 mph are expected. The strongest winds will occur for a one- to two-hour window immediately following the cold frontal passage.

Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Tree and minor structural damage is possible.

People should avoid being outside in forested areas and around trees and branches. If possible, remain in the lower levels of your home during the windstorm, and avoid windows. Use caution if you must drive.

South winds of 30 to 35 mph with gusts up to 60 mph are forecast.
