After a pair of games away from Salina to start the season, Sacred Heart played its first home game Friday night as the Knights faced the Ellsworth Bearcats.

The Knights (0-3) began the evening on offense, but their opening series resulted in negative yardage and a three-and-out.

Ellsworth (3-0) would answer with a pair of Cole Webber touchdowns to make the score 14-0 after the opening quarter.

A 35-yard field goal by Cam Yohe put Sacred Heart on the scoreboard and cut the Ellsworth lead to 14-3 early in the second quarter.

Unfortunately for the Knights, those turned out to be the only points they could tally, and the Bearcats tacked on two additional touchdowns to lead 27-3 at halftime.

Despite the deficit, Sacred Heart showed its toughness on both sides of the ball with big carries by both Michael Matteucci and Evan Bogart along with forcing several Ellsworth penalties and losses of yardage.

Ultimately, two more third-quarter Bearcat touchdowns completed the 39-3 win.

The Knights will now turn their focus to hosting the Belle Plaine Dragons on September 22.
