The National Weather Service in Wichita is urging Kansans to stay weather-aware as severe storms are expected to develop Tuesday evening and continue into early Wednesday morning.

Forecasters say the primary threats include large hail, damaging winds, heavy rainfall and the possibility of tornadoes.

The timing of the storms will vary by location:

• 6 to 10 p.m. for areas in central Kansas, including Salina, Great Bend, and Concordia

• 8 p.m. to midnight for locations farther east, such as Hutchinson, Emporia, and Topeka

• 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. for southeastern Kansas, including Wichita, Chanute, and Coffeyville

The National Weather Service advises residents to monitor the latest forecasts and have multiple ways to receive warning information, especially overnight when storms may strike while people are asleep.

This round of storms could impact evening travel and overnight safety, so preparations should be made early. Local emergency management officials recommend charging mobile devices, securing outdoor items, and reviewing severe weather safety plans.

Salina Post will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as more information becomes available.
