ASSARIA - Two minor earthquakes struck near Assaria early this morning.
The first, a 2.3 magnitude quake, struck at 12:59 a.m. Saturday northwest of Assaria, according to the Kansas Geological Survey. The quake was centered just east of S. Old U.S. Highway 81 between E. Salemsborg Road and E. Assaria Road.
The second, a 2.5 magnitude quake, struck at 4:32 a.m. Saturday just north of Assaria between S. Ohio Street and S. Old U.S. Highway 81.
The quakes were the second and third in the area in a 24-hour period. A 2.2 magnitude quake struck further northwest of Assaria Friday evening.
