On Monday, Southeast of Saline officially announced that Francis Flax, long-time head coach of Brown Mackie College, would be assuming the role of head boys basketball coach at SES.

Flax is a local coaching legend here in Salina, winning two national championships as head coach with Brown Mackie, another as head coach of the Kansas Cagers, and a fourth national title as GM of the Salina Liberty.

In addition to being voted into the NJCAA basketball hall of fame in 2008, Flax has also followed the program closely as the father of Bryson Flax, who coached the team for the last six years

Over the weekend the Southeast of Saline track and field teams also posted a strong regional finish, with the boys team taking third, the girls team taking fourth, and seven individuals qualifying for state in 19 different events, including three relay teams.
