May 7, 1934 ~ March 29, 2024

Lola Irene Stock passed away on March 29th, 2024, at the Madison Regional Health System, Madison, South Dakota. Services will be held Tuesday, April 2nd, 2024, at the Willoughby Funeral Home, Howard, South Dakota. Visitation Monday evening 5:00 – 7:00 PM April 1st, and 1 hour prior to service. The family will be in attendance. Interment will be at Graceland Cemetery, Howard, South Dakotafollowing the service.

Lola Irene (Perry) Stock was born on May 7th, 1934, in Salina, Kansas to Leroy and Viola (Tickel) Perry. Lola spent her childhood in the Salina area. She graduated from Salina High School in 1952. After graduating, she attended Marymount College of Kansas in Salina. Also, she worked as a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. She met the love of her life at a dance at Smokey Hill Air Force Base â€“ Staff Seargent Otto Duane Stock, who was stationed at the base.  The two of them became inseparable. They were engaged and later married on January 23rd, 1955, in Salina. After Duane’s tour in Korea was complete, the couple moved to Brookings, South Dakota while Duane attended South Dakota State University.

Upon graduation, the couple moved to Howard, South Dakota where Duane and Lola worked the family farm with his parents Otto and Sophia. Lola raised four children while making a wonderful home for the family.  She was active in the Methodist Church, teaching Sunday school, Bible school and was a member of the church’s ladies aide.

Lola enjoyed raising her children watching as they grew into adults. As the family grew, she enjoyed watching the grandkids in their school and sporting activities. Later in life she enjoyed drawing and water coloring. Lola created many pictures that were given to family members to enjoy and have as keepsakes. Lola was an avid Minnesota Twins fan, even when they played the New York Yankees(Duane’s team). She could tell you after a few innings whether it was â€śthe Twins day” or not.

Those grateful having shared in her life include her four children: Christy Stock (Howard, SD), Shari Gillund (Overland Park, KS), Paul (Marcia)Stock (Salina, KS), William (Becky) Stock (Scottsdale, AZ). 4 Grandchildren: Jeremy (Holly) Gillund, Troy (Jayme) Gillund, Joshua Stock, Levi (Madison) Stock. Seven great-grandchildren: Austin Gillund, Paige Gillund, Payton Gillund, Addyson Gillund, Wyatt Gillund, Ella Stock, and James Stock. Also, many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Lola was preceded in death by her husband Duane, Son-In-Law Mike Gillund and Grandson Joshua Stock. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Beach United Methodist Church, 205 N Pleasant St, Howard, South Dakota 57349, to assist in funding their Sunday school operations.
