UPDATE: Police, KBI investigating Sunday homicide in central Salina

Police are investigating a homicide that occurred Sunday morning in central Salina.

According to information released this morning by the Salina Police Department, on Sunday morning law enforcement dispatch received a call about a shooting that occurred in a residence in the 200 block of S. 10th Street.

"Salina Police officers and Salina Emergency Medical personnel responded and located a 35-year-old Salina resident with a gunshot wound. This person was transported to Salina Regional Health Center where he underwent surgery. Unfortunately, the victim succumbed to his injury," the Salina Police Department reported.

The case is being investigated as a homicide. A person of interest is in custody, the Salina Police Department noted.

Salina Police detectives are being assisted by the Kansas Bureau of Investigation.

"As further information becomes available, additional information will be released," the Salina Police Department noted in the news release.
