Instructions:	Do not drive into flooded areas or go around barricades. Nearly two feet of water will carry most vehicles away. Turn around, don`t drown.

Hazards include winds in excess of 40 mph and pea size hail. 

Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor damage to outdoor objects is possible.

The National Weather Service in Wichita has issued a severe thunderstorm warning in effect until 8:15 p.m. Tuesday for the following counties in our area.

This includes Interstate 70 between mile markers 209 and 225.

The storm is moving east at 10 mph. The weather service noted that 60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail are expected.

The National Weather Service in Wichita also has issued a severe thunderstorm warning in effect until 8 p.m. Tuesday that includes southwestern Ellsworth County.

The storm is moving southeast at 15 mph. The weather service noted that 60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail are expected.

Widely scattered storms are expected to continue until Thursday. 

Storms may become more numerous in nature on Thursday across central Kansas. 

A couple of severe storms will be possible on Tuesday but widespread organized severe storms are not expected through the week.

In 1889, a pair of powerful tornadoes struck central Kansas. 

The first twister, an F3 with a track five miles long, leveled two farms between eight and five miles southwest of McPherson. 

The second was a violent F4. It's track was 25 miles long and around 440 yards wide as it tore through Marion and Chase counties. This second twister destroyed 10 farms. On one of the farms, every building was swept away. The second twister killed two people and injured four.

This Day in Weather History: Twisters wreak havoc in central Kansas

A line of storms across western Kansas will move into central and south-central Kansas this morning. Storms will be capable of locally heavy rain and gusty winds. Severe storms are not expected but a strong storm can’t be ruled out.
