CLEVELAND (AP) —&nbsp;<a href="https://twitter.com/i/status/1798803133931323843">Kyle Isbel hit a tiebreaking RBI single in the eighth inning</a>&nbsp;that scored Adam Frazier and the Kansas City Royals beat the AL Central-leading Cleveland Guardians 4-3 on Thursday.

Frazier doubled off Hunter Gaddis (3-2) with two outs and Isbel followed with a liner to right, giving Kansas City a split of the two-game series. The clubs were rained out on Wednesday.

The Royals pulled within four games of Cleveland in the division, winning for the third time in 10 games since May 25. Sam Long (1-1) pitched a scoreless seventh and James McArthur picked up his 12th save in 16 chances.

José Ramírez hit a solo homer and drove in two runs for the Guardians, who have the third-best record in baseball at 40-21, trailing the Philadelphia Phillies and New York Yankees. Cleveland entered the day an MLB-best 21-7 at home.

Isbel was in the lineup for the first time since Sunday, when he sustained a head injury in a collision with teammate Bobby Witt Jr. against San Diego. He also is recovering from small facial fractures after fouling a ball off his face at Tampa Bay on May 25.

Ramírez homered for the eighth time in 20 games and has 50 RBIs in his last 46 contests.

Guardians starter Tanner Bibee struck out seven in five innings, allowing two earned runs on six hits. Singer had his shortest outing of 2024, going 3 2/3 innings and giving up two earned runs.

Both teams scored unearned runs in the first. Royals leadoff hitter Maikel Garcia reached on a miscue by Gold Glove second baseman Andrés Giménez and scored on Vinnie Pasquantino’s double. For Cleveland, Kwan singled and scored on a Josh Naylor grounder.

Royals: 2B Michael Massey (low back ligament strain), who was placed on the 10-day injured list on May 26, will be re-assessed Friday in Kansas City. “He felt a little better yesterday, so we’ll see when he can start working toward some baseball activities,” manager Matt Quatraro said.

Guardians: RHP Eli Morgan (right elbow inflammation) had a “small shutdown, but is going to start his throwing progression again,” according to manager Stephen Vogt. Morgan has only appeared in one game between IL stays -- working 2 2/3 innings at Colorado on May 29 -- since April 17.

⚾ Isbel's RBI single in the 8th lifts the Royals past the Guardians

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Kansas City Chiefs backup B.J. Thompson was taken to a hospital in stable condition Thursday after the defensive lineman experienced a cardiac event during a team meeting, a person familiar with the situation told The Associated Press.

The person, speaking to the AP on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the event, said team trainers and medical staff were able to react quickly and treat Thompson until paramedics arrived.

The Chiefs planned to wrap up their voluntary offseason workouts on Thursday, but a team spokesman said the practice would be pushed to Friday. That is when Chiefs coach Andy Reid and other players will speak to reporters.

The 27-year-old Thompson was a fifth-round pick of the Chiefs out of Stephen F. Austin in last year's draft. The only game Thompson appeared in was their regular-season finale against the Los Angeles Chargers, when Kansas City already had clinched its playoff spot and the game's outcome was meaningless. Thompson had two tackles in that game.

Those honored included Chapman’s Danny Jackson, Southeast of Saline’s Dylan Esch, Solomon’s Spencer Coup, and Sacred Heart’s Michael Matteucci, Hunter Newell, Luke Newell and Walker Tuttle, from the 2A state champion Knights

Further to the north the Kansas City Royals were looking to get back on track, but that will have to wait as thunderstorms in the forecast postponed their game with the Guardians

The Royals will play in a split doubleheader today, with game one at 1:10 and game two set for 6:40

And finally some news from the Arena Football League where on Wednesday the AFL welcomed in Gary Compton as Director of Football Operations

Compton will oversee all aspects of football ops, including team management, game scheduling, and player development, as well as the implementation of advanced training programs, to promote health and safety

During his time as an AFL head coach Compton won a championship, and has over 25 years of experience in football operations and management.

Seven area golfers earn All-State commendations

MANHATTAN, Kan. –&nbsp;2024-25 K-State men’s and women’s basketball season tickets will go on sale at 8:30 a.m., CT on Wednesday (June 5), athletic department officials announced today (June 4). &nbsp;

Following a season that saw the women's team reach as high as the No. 2 ranking, win 14-straight games, finish 16-2 in Bramlage, and host the First and Second Rounds of the NCAA Tournament in front of 20,000+ fans, the Wildcats return several key players including All-American&nbsp;Ayoka Lee, All-Big 12 First Team selection&nbsp;Serena Sundell, plus starters&nbsp;Brylee Glenn&nbsp;and&nbsp;Jaelyn Glenn.&nbsp;

General admission women's basketball season tickets start at $75 for football and men’s basketball season ticket holders, $100 for public, or $300 for a 4-Pack. Wildcat 4-Packs are available for approximately $4 per game.&nbsp;

After selling out of advanced public tickets to multiple games last season, the Wildcat men are set to return to Bramlage where they continue to perform well, posting a 29-4 home record under head coach&nbsp;Jerome Tang.&nbsp;

Fans have a variety of ticket prices and locations from which to choose from, with men’s basketball bench season tickets starting at $355 each. With the Wildcat 4-Pack, fans can purchase four season tickets starting at less than $15 per game.&nbsp;

Dunbar comes to K-State after spending the previous four seasons at Rice. He redshirted the 2023 season and will have two more years of eligibility remaining. He is joined in this year’s spring transfer window class by running back&nbsp;Dylan Edwards&nbsp;(Colorado), linebacker&nbsp;Alec Marenco&nbsp;(New Mexico) and quarterback&nbsp;Ta’Quan Roberson&nbsp;(Connecticut).

A product of Tarrytown, New York, Dunbar saw action in 25 games with 21 starts over parts of three seasons at Rice. After playing in one game in 2020, Dunbar played in all 12 games with nine starts in 2021 as he earned All-Freshman C-USA honors from the league’s coaches, while he started all 12 of his games played in 2022 en route to All-Conference USA Honorable Mention accolades.

During the 2022 campaign in which Rice earned a berth into the Lending Tree Bowl, Dunbar tied for ninth in C-USA with 10 pass breakups, including a career high three at Louisiana Tech. In 2021, Dunbar had nine pass breakups with two coming in the season finale, while he had a career-high seven tackles against Houston.

CLEVELAND (AP) — Kansas City shortstop Bobby Witt's Jr.'s throwing error led to Cleveland scoring three runs on an infield grounder in the seventh inning in the Guardians' 8-5 win over the Royals on Tuesday night in a matchup of the AL Central’s top two teams.

The Guardians trailed 5-0 in the fourth before storming back to win the series opener and push their division lead to five over the Royals.

Witt clobbered a pair of two-run homers, but his errant throw in the seventh was more than costly.

After Tyler Freeman's homer tied it 5-5 for the Guardians and chased starter Seth Lugo, Cleveland loaded the bases on a fielder's choice and two walks — one by Sam Long (0-1) with two outs when David Fry hit a grounder toward the middle.

Witt gloved it to the right of the base and initially tried to beat Josh Naylor to second for a force. When Witt realized he couldn't get Naylor, he unleashed a wild throw that first baseman Vinnie Pasquantino had no chance of getting.

The ball wound up in the photographer's pit. Because Naylor had already gotten to second base, he was awarded third and home.

Rookie Cade Smith (3-0) came on for Triston McKenzie, and Emmanuel Clase worked the ninth for his AL-leading 19th save.

Naylor hit a two-run homer for the Guardians, who reached 40 wins in 60 games for just the third time since 1995.

Witt connected in the third and fourth innings off Cleveland starter McKenzie, who has given up eight homers in his last three starts.

Down 5-0 in the fourth after Witt's second homer, the Guardians got Naylor's 16th homer while scoring three in the fourth off Lugo, who came in leading the AL in wins (9) and was 6-0 in six road starts.

It was the first meeting this season between two of the majors' most improved teams.

Witt's second homer, a 454-foot blast to center field, put the Royals ahead 5-0 in the fourth inning.

Guardians manager Stephen Vogt credits Royals manager Matt Quatraro for helping shape his path to the majors.

Vogt's first manager in the minor leagues was Quatraro.

“He taught me everything,” Vogt said. “How to work and act like a professional. I had him my first two years and I couldn’t have been more thankful for somebody to show me what it means to be a pro, what it means to work, what it means to hold your teammates accountable and hold yourself accountable to being the best you can be.”

Royals: OF Kyle Isbel wasn't in the lineup out of an abundance of caution after colliding with Witt in Sunday's game. Isbel was struck in the head by Witt’s knee as they chased a bloop. Isbel also recently fouled a ball off his face and suffered bruises and fractures. “This was just me being more careful than trying to rush him,” Quatraro said.

Guardians: RHP Gavin Williams (elbow soreness) pitched 2 1/3 innings in his second rehab start for Triple-A Columbus.

The Guardians were still considering options for Tuesday's starter to face Royals RHP Brady Singer (4-2, 2.63), who gave up a career-high 13 hits in his previous start at Progressive Field.

⚾Guardians score 3 on Witt's wild throw to down the Royals

The fall of 95’ marked the start of a new era at Southeast of Saline as two new fields, one baseball, and one softball, were built in Gypsum.

That same year, Mike Garretson began his coaching career at SES as the leader of the Lady Trojan softball team.

On Monday, 28 years and 423 wins later, Coach Garretson announced his retirement as Southeast’s head boys baseball coach.

“Everything about my time in Gypsum was good,” Garretson said. “Being on a baseball or softball field with the kids was always enjoyable. I grew up on a baseball field and this almost allowed me to stay a kid for a little while longer.”

Garretson, who retired from teaching at SES prior to this season, also prided himself on the academic side of the student-athlete experience, serving Southeast in the classroom as well as on the field.

“Coach Garretson filled many roles for us during his time here and he’s done so much more than just coaching during practices and games,” SES AD Doug Minneman said. “He was very involved in the school and teaching community here and he’ll be very difficult to replace. He did a fantastic job with our baseball program over the years and we definitely appreciate all he’s done here at Southeast.”

Under Garretson’s leadership, the Trojans became a force to be reckoned with, posting winning records in each of the last 12 seasons, with an overall record of 194-69 during that span.

“We’re set up really well and this program is on an upward trajectory,” Garretson said. “We played a lot of young kids this year with only two seniors and those guys got a lot of experience. They’ll be good but it’s not because of me, it’s because of all the youth coaches that worked with these kids from when they were young.”

Garretson concludes his stellar coaching career with an overall record of 423-200 between baseball (300-146) and softball (123-54).

In a statement issued on social media over the weekend, the long-time coach left a parting message for his team and former players.

“It’s been a wonderful experience to share the joy of baseball with the incredible student-athletes from Southeast of Saline,” he said. “I want to thank our past and present admins and honor my incredible group of assistant coaches who served our students. To all my past players, I appreciate every one of you, you always gave it your best and I enjoyed our time together on all those fields we shared.”

⚾️ Mike Garretson retires after 28-year coaching career at SES

<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/947fbe02-95a3-441e-b516-ac7265184d3f?elinkdata=10471">Jun Murdock</a> received numerous awards and recognition during his three years as a standout basketball player at Kansas Wesleyan.

Winning the Gene Bissell Male Athlete of the Year Award for a second time was as special as it was unexpected.

"It means a lot, it's a blessing to win that award," Murdock said. "Really, I didn't even expect to win it. There's a lot of good athletes at this school especially the ones that we were up against. It's just another way how the school shows a lot of love and respect to their student-athletes."

Murdock was recognized during the annual Yotee Awards earlier this month. He also received honor in 2022.

Murdock transferred to KWU after spending his freshman year at Friends. He sat out a year because of Kansas Conference transfer rules then immediately became the Coyotes' starting point guard for three years.

He earned NAIA All-America honors in 2022 and again this season after averaging 18.3 points, 4.9 assists, 3.8 rebounds, 1.8 steals and helping the Coyotes compile a 23-9 record. He was named All-KCAC three times - First Team this season and 2022 - and was on this year's All-Defensive Team and 2023.

Off the court Murdock was a key player on campus working as a resident assistant and in the Advancement Office as a graduate intern.

"I feel like it's definitely given me a lot of experience especially if I want to get into my career and work in the sports management field," he said. "(Being an RA) gives me a lot of experience working with people, being personal with people, learning about what they like and things like that.

"It let me do a lot of things I thought I would never do and I want to thank Michelle (Dolan), Cathy (Doubrava), Kay (Quinn) ... all of those people that work in advancement for giving me the opportunity to do that."

The experience also allowed him to do continue doing what he's most passionate about.

"It gave me a chance to come back and play my favorite sport for my last year," he said. "I love basketball, I've been loving it my whole life."

Murdock will continue to love it and will continue his career overseas having agreed to play professionally in England next season. He is slated to leave this summer.

"Just another chance for me to play basketball," he said. "Definitely another level so just continuing to work on my game."

KWU will always be a special place though.

"It's been a very big part of my life," he said. "These past four years definitely have made me a better person on and off the court and I just appreciate everything that I've been through here."

KWU's Murdock named Bissell Male Student-Athlete of the Year

<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/1c70d179-efc3-4f82-a62a-ad49c2b10651?elinkdata=10492">Madisyn Ehrlich</a> was stunned and thrilled upon hearing she had been chosen Kansas Wesleyan's Ginny Bevan Female Athlete of the Year during the annual Yotee Awards ceremony last month.

She was just as delighted to share her joy with her teammates, coaches and family.

"It's really exciting that I actually won it. I was up against some really good athletes from different areas of sports," said Ehrlich, a sophomore and standout distance runner in cross country and track. "I just think it's pretty cool in general that they had a track and field athlete because I don't really know when the last time a track and field athlete has won something like this."

It was indeed a huge night for the track and cross country programs. Freshman distance runner Damion Jackson was named Male Freshman of the Year and head cross country/assistant track coach <a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/232182cb-1cf5-4170-bee7-be0c5cbf71a7?elinkdata=10492">Garrett Young</a> the Coach of the Year.

"I think it was really cool to be able to represent my team and show that the track team is getting better as the years go on," Ehrlich said. "We're getting people for different areas of track - we've got sprinters, distance throwers ... it's just a really cool thing that we are building this program back up. We're putting our name out there."

Ehrlich, a graduate of Sacred Heart High School, did her part. She qualified for NAIA championships in cross country and indoor track and earned indoor All-America honors in the 1,000 meters and 4x800-meter relay.

She finished 158 places higher than she did as a freshman at the NAIA cross country meet and qualified for the finals of the NAIA indoor 1,000 meters in a school record time of 2:56.66. Her teammates in the 4x800 relay were Josie Koppas, <a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/d89f9c83-7d94-4a17-a08c-6b15ebd8ad3b?elinkdata=10492">Shelby Lingle</a> and <a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/98468153-d9c2-43a5-b152-05ac625291b2?elinkdata=10492">Joni Schroeder</a>.

Ehrlich received a surprise earlier this month when learned she was chosen to compete in the 1,500 meters in the NAIA Outdoors Championships in Marion, Indiana. She didn't meet the NAIA qualifying standard during the season, but the field fell short of the minimum number of entries and she received an invitation to compete after KWU coaches submitted her name for consideration.

The plethora of accomplishments aside Ehrlich was not expecting her named to be called during the Yotee ceremony.

"I was like 'wait, what, he called me?'" she said. "It was a really cool feeling when it hit and it's pretty cool just to see how the hard work has paid off and is continuing to pay off."

Ehrlich says Young and <a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/0e9e8a94-a7d6-43d3-86d2-ed2eac17c9c6?elinkdata=10492">Kyle Hiser</a>, Director of Track and Field and Cross Country, are the reasons for her success.

"It's cool to see where I started out as a freshman last year to how many gains I've made this year and how much stronger I've gotten," she said. "I credit my coaches for being able to push me. It's just progressively gotten better and better and I'm excited for the upcoming years to see what else I can do."

Ehrlich gives ample credit to her parents Jeff and Jeanine.

"I cannot explain how much they have done for me," she said. "I wouldn't be the person I am today without them. They've been there with me every step of the way and I'm very grateful for that."

Ehrlich said the award will help her confidence.

"I lack a lot of confidence sometimes but just seeing the success, my hard work pay-off is a big confidence booster," she said. "It just pushes me to be better and I'm getting more confident with my running every single meet, every single race."

<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/1c70d179-efc3-4f82-a62a-ad49c2b10651?elinkdata=10492">Madisyn Ehrlich</a> was stunned and thrilled upon hearing she had been chosen Kansas Wesleyan's Ginny Bevan Female Athlete of the Year during the annual Yotee Awards ceremony last month.She was just as delighted to share her joy with her teammates, coaches and family."It's really exciting that I actually won it. I was up against some really good athletes from different areas of sports," said Ehrlich, a sophomore and standout distance runner in cross country and track. "I just think it's pretty cool in general that they had a track and field athlete because I don't really know when the last time a track and field athlete has won something like this."It was indeed a huge night for the track and cross country programs. Freshman distance runner Damion Jackson was named Male Freshman of the Year and head cross country/assistant track coach <a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/232182cb-1cf5-4170-bee7-be0c5cbf71a7?elinkdata=10492">Garrett Young</a> the Coach of the Year."I think it was really cool to be able to represent my team and show that the track team is getting better as the years go on," Ehrlich said. "We're getting people for different areas of track - we've got sprinters, distance throwers ... it's just a really cool thing that we are building this program back up. We're putting our name out there."Ehrlich, a graduate of Sacred Heart High School, did her part. She qualified for NAIA championships in cross country and indoor track and earned indoor All-America honors in the 1,000 meters and 4x800-meter relay.She finished 158 places higher than she did as a freshman at the NAIA cross country meet and qualified for the finals of the NAIA indoor 1,000 meters in a school record time of 2:56.66. Her teammates in the 4x800 relay were Josie Koppas, <a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/d89f9c83-7d94-4a17-a08c-6b15ebd8ad3b?elinkdata=10492">Shelby Lingle</a> and <a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/98468153-d9c2-43a5-b152-05ac625291b2?elinkdata=10492">Joni Schroeder</a>.Ehrlich received a surprise earlier this month when learned she was chosen to compete in the 1,500 meters in the NAIA Outdoors Championships in Marion, Indiana. She didn't meet the NAIA qualifying standard during the season, but the field fell short of the minimum number of entries and she received an invitation to compete after KWU coaches submitted her name for consideration.The plethora of accomplishments aside Ehrlich was not expecting her named to be called during the Yotee ceremony."I was like 'wait, what, he called me?'" she said. "It was a really cool feeling when it hit and it's pretty cool just to see how the hard work has paid off and is continuing to pay off."Ehrlich says Young and <a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/0e9e8a94-a7d6-43d3-86d2-ed2eac17c9c6?elinkdata=10492">Kyle Hiser</a>, Director of Track and Field and Cross Country, are the reasons for her success."It's cool to see where I started out as a freshman last year to how many gains I've made this year and how much stronger I've gotten," she said. "I credit my coaches for being able to push me. It's just progressively gotten better and better and I'm excited for the upcoming years to see what else I can do."Ehrlich gives ample credit to her parents Jeff and Jeanine."I cannot explain how much they have done for me," she said. "I wouldn't be the person I am today without them. They've been there with me every step of the way and I'm very grateful for that."Ehrlich said the award will help her confidence."I lack a lot of confidence sometimes but just seeing the success, my hard work pay-off is a big confidence booster," she said. KWU's Ehrlich named Bevan Female Student-Athlete of the Year at Yotee Awards

The Salina Liberty battled on Sunday but ultimately fell 34-31 in Dodge City at the hands of the Southwest Kansas Storm.

With this result, the Liberty slide to 3-2 on the year while the Storm improve to 3-3.

The Liberty were gifted a free point before a single second came off the clock when Southwest Kansas failed to get the opening kickoff out of the end zone.

Just one touchdown would be scored in the first quarter, and it would belong to the Storm as Caden Walters found paydirt from the goal line on a QB run.

Salina wasted little time striking back, opening the second quarter with a QB keeper of their own, as Charles McCullum gave Salina an 8-7 lead.

McCullum would extend that lead with his second rushing touchdown of the day, but a touchdown pass, a pick-six, and a safety for the Storm would allow Southwest Kansas a 23-15 lead at the half.

After trading turnovers at the top of the third quarter, Otis Odom would claim the third score on the ground for the Liberty, and a forced fumble in the red zone would keep the Storm silent for the whole frame.

The Liberty had a chance to take their first lead of the half early in the fourth, but a missed field goal gave the ball back to the Storm, who extended the lead to nine on a 15-yard connection to Todd Athey.

Not deterred in the slightest, Salina answered with yet another score on the ground, this time from Jamario Benson, and took a 31-30 lead on a rare four-point conversion with time winding down.

Unfortunately for Salina, defense and special teams would put the game on ice as a field goal and rouge point made the score 34-31, and a pick in the end zone intended for Demarius Washington put the final nail in the Liberty coffin.

Despite this loss, the Liberty keep their spot in fourth place among the nine remaining AFL teams, and will look to chase Albany, Billings, and West Texas down the stretch.

KANSAS CITY, Mo.—The Kansas City Royals announced this morning that infielder&nbsp;Bobby Witt Jr.&nbsp;and right-handed pitcher&nbsp;Seth Lugo&nbsp;have been named Royals Player and Pitcher of the Month, respectively, for May. The awards are determined by a local media vote.

Witt Jr. ranked among Major League leaders in several offensive categories last month, including 2nd in runs scored (26), 3rd in RBI (25), tied for 5th in hits (35) and 6th in total bases (61). He matched&nbsp;Michael Massey&nbsp;for the team lead with 5 home runs and batted .315 (35-for-111) with multiple hits in 13 of his 28 games, as he currently leads the Majors with 25 multi-hit games this season. He put together a season-best 10-game hit streak from May 17-27, and on May 28, Major League Baseball announced that Witt Jr. was named American League Player of the Week for May 20-26, his first career weekly honor. He was the first Royal to win the award since&nbsp;Vinnie Pasquantino&nbsp;earned the honors for the week of Aug. 8-14, 2022, and he became the fourth Royals shortstop to ever win the award. Over that week, he landed among AL leaders in home runs (4, T-2nd), extra-base hits (6, T-2nd), hits (10, T-4th), slugging pct. (.923, T-4th) and OPS (1.356, 6th). Bobby Witt Jr, Seth Lugo named Royals Players of the Month for May

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Nick Loftin hit a walk-off sacrifice fly, Nelson Velázquez hit two RBIs and the Kansas City Royals defeated the San Diego Padres 4-3 on Sunday.

Loftin's sacrifice fly came after Velázquez pinch-hit a game-tying, two-run triple with no outs in the ninth. Velázquez finished the series with four RBIs.

“It is a huge win; we had to battle all weekend against a good team,” Loftin said. “It is big to get this win before we go into a big series this week. In that last at-bat, I just wanted to get a pitch up, something I could handle. I got to pitch up, and I was able to do enough.”

The Padres won the series, but Kansas City avoided the sweep. The Royals have not been swept this season and ended a three-game skid.

Cole Ragans allowed one run on five hits in six innings with six strikeouts and two walks. It was the ninth time this season Ragans had six or more strikeouts in an outing this season. Will Klein (1-0) earned his first-career win with a scoreless ninth inning.

“It felt great. I thought I commanded my stuff today," Ragans said. “I don’t think I changed anything. Just sticking to the process and going out there and executing that is the biggest thing. In late innings, we put together good bats. These guys are relentless. It is so fun to watch and be a part of.”

Vinnie Pasquantino hit a sacrifice fly in the fourth to give Kansas City a 1-0 lead. It was his fifth RBI of the series.

Fernando Tatis Jr. hit an RBI single in the eighth to give the Padres a 2-1 lead. Manny Machado followed up with an RBI single. This season, San Diego has scored 121 runs in the eighth inning, more than any other inning. Luis Arraez tied the game with an RBI single in the fifth.

Michael King pitched seven innings of one-run ball on four hits with four strikeouts and two walks. It was the fourth time this year that King had pitched seven or more innings. Reliever Enyel De Los Santos tossed a scoreless eighth. Yuki Matsui (3-1) was tabbed with the loss.

“That’s a good team, let’s not kid ourselves," San Diego manager Mike Shildt said. “They do a heck of a job, and it was a good series, and credit to them for Friday night’s comeback because they compromised their bullpen. They got us at the end today.”

The series featured the hit leaders in the National and American leagues. Arraez recorded six hits in the series, extending an eight-game hitting streak. Bobby Witt Jr. had five hits in the series. Arraez leads the majors in the category.

Royals: RHP Michael Wacha (left foot fracture) was placed on the 15-day injured list retroactive to June 1. Wacha was struck by a comebacker on the fourth pitch of his start on Friday night.&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/padres-royals-score-0a330acde8416b9e8accdb9c1dcb026d">He stayed in the game</a>&nbsp;and pitched 5 1/3 innings. Daniel Lynch IV was recalled from Triple-A Omaha in the corresponding move.

Royals: Kyle Isbel (nonconcussive head and neck injury) left the game in the fifth inning&nbsp;<a href="https://www.mlb.com/gameday/746301/video/cole-ragans-in-play-no-out-to-jose-azocar">after a collision with Witt</a>&nbsp;in centerfield. Isbel had to exit in the seventh inning on May 24 after fouling a ball off his face.

Padres:&nbsp;<a href="https://www.mlb.com/gameday/746301/video/cole-ragans-in-play-run-s-to-luis-arraez">Arraez exited the game</a>&nbsp;in the sixth inning after getting called out after a headfirst slide into second on an RBI single to end the inning. He was looked at by trainers in the middle of the inning but stayed in before being replaced in the next inning. After the game, Shildt said the substitution was just a precaution.
