Coming off Saturday's big win over No. 9 Southwestern in overtime, the Kansas Wesleyan men's basketball team had to make a quick turnaround to face a tough Ottawa University squad on Monday night at Mabee Arena.

The Coyotes got the job done, using a few big runs and then held on for a 89-83 win over the Braves.

"To come off a big win on Saturday and have to turn around quickly, I thought we were really good for stretches tonight and others we got careless and sloppy with things, and that was tough," Wesleyan head coach&nbsp;<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/2305db4f-08d2-4547-854f-90de9eae10e9?elinkdata=5521" target="_blank">Anthony Monson</a>&nbsp;said.

Wesleyan fell behind early as Ottawa pushed out to a 14-6 lead in the first five minutes of the game."Ottawa's explosive offensively, they can really score it," Monson said.

The Coyotes battled back getting within a point on a 3-pointer by&nbsp;<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/999de077-2bcf-4e94-bec1-0a6d2ea1b9fa?elinkdata=5521" target="_blank">Grant Dye</a>&nbsp;and then took the lead 20-19 with 10:47 left in the first on a steal by&nbsp;<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/427b3e78-6836-49a3-a9a7-2e6230ceb2b7?elinkdata=5521" target="_blank">Caden Hale</a>&nbsp;and outlet to&nbsp;<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/a60b2b4e-d2b5-4eec-a7cb-939533477c94?elinkdata=5521" target="_blank">Jun Murdock</a>&nbsp;for the lay-up.

Ottawa came back to tie it 22-all, but the Coyotes got four straight points from&nbsp;<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/b1b7d57d-0d1e-4184-8926-a665a5fdf170?elinkdata=5521" target="_blank">Alex Littlejohn</a>&nbsp;to lead 26-22 with 8:01 to go.

The Coyotes extended the lead to 10 points for the first time with 6:25 to go on a bucket by&nbsp;<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/10b63fb9-e584-4f2e-9b68-8e190e5e2ed5?elinkdata=5521" target="_blank">Caden Hale</a>.

The Coyotes took a 13 point into intermission at 44-31 when the ball was tipped into the Coyote basket by Jayden Hibbitt for the ultra-rare basketball own goal just before the half.

"I thought we were a little tired and a little off, but at the end of the day we made enough plays to win the game and that's all that matters," Monson said.

Ottawa made a run at the Coyotes to open the second half, making it a 2-point game at 46-44 with 16:51 to go, but the Coyotes scored the next six points to take a 52-44 lead with 15:33 left.

The Braves again cut it to 2 before the Coyotes scored six straight again to take a 58-50 lead with 11:49 left on a free throw by Littlejohn.

Wesleyan never surrendered the lead, but only led by 10 points one more time at 67-57 with 7:36 left.

Ottawa cut it to three down the stretch, but the Coyotes made the plays needed to win the game, sealing the win with Murdock's free throws with 14 seconds left.

Littlejohn paced the Coyotes with 19 points and 15 rebounds, while&nbsp;<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/3e242c09-b4cb-411e-a6ff-f8dcfe35d795?elinkdata=5521" target="_blank">Caden Hale</a>&nbsp;had 15 as did&nbsp;<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/87d7ab72-3b54-41d7-b880-5418b57185d6?elinkdata=5521" target="_blank">Thurbil Bile</a>&nbsp;and Murdock added 13. KWU score 31 of 64 from the field for 48.4 percent.

Wesleyan has another quick turnaround, heading to Tabor on Wednesday before hosting York in Saturday's regular-season finale at 7 p.m. in Mabee Arena.

KWU Men's Basketball holds off Ottawa 89-83

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Max Abmas became the 12th player in men's Division I history to reach 3,000 career points and Texas held off Kansas State 62-56 on Monday night.

Abmas, a graduate transfer who played his first four seasons for Oral Roberts University, entered play needing six points to reach the milestone. He finished with eight and has scored 450 points for the Longhorns (17-9, 6-7 Big 12 Conference) this season.

Dylan Disu finished with a game-high 20 points for Texas. He made 5 of 11 shots from the floor and 10 of his 11 free throws, adding eight rebounds and three steals. Tyrese Hunter had nine points and seven boards. Dillon Mitchell totaled eight points and 10 rebounds with a pair of blocked shots.

Arthur Kaluma paced the Wildcats (15-11, 5-8) with 15 points and seven rebounds. Tylor Perry added 13 points and four assists, but he also had six of K-State's 13 turnovers. David N'Guessan pitched in with 12 points and seven rebounds.

The victory was in stark contrast to the Coyotes' 72-57 loss to Saint Mary on Wednesday in Leavenworth following a week-long layoff. Saturday's conquest was their second over the Moundbuilders this season and fifth in a row overall.

"This team is just tough," said Murdock who scored 29 in the second half and overtime periods. "I feel like we play hard, we're never going to give up no matter the situation we're in. We know they're a good team but we're also a good team and we knew we had to get this one tonight."

KWU improved to 18-7 overall, 14-4 in the KCAC; Southwestern fell to 21-4 and 16-3.

Wesleyan trailed 80-70 with less than four minutes left in regulation but stormed back, drawing even 81-81 on&nbsp;<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/b8e7d8a7-4ec0-43d1-b39a-c1a82b38c006?elinkdata=5314" target="_blank">Thurbil Bile's</a>&nbsp;rebound and basket from 15 feet out with 15 seconds left. Southwestern's Cevin Clark, the NAIA's leading scorer, missed a 3-point shot as time expired.

Trailing 89-87 with 1:47 left in overtime KWU scored six of the next eight points, Murdock accounting for four of them. Southwestern got within two twice, 92-91 and 94-93, but&nbsp;<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/5193ec31-4cc5-43f8-989c-1bb608bdaf30?elinkdata=5314" target="_blank">Izaiah Hale</a>&nbsp;and Murdock each hit the second of two free throws attempts - Murdock's coming with 8.5 seconds left that made it 96-93.

After a time out Clark, who finished with 38 points, missed a guard 3-point shot but teammate Justin DeMaria grabbed the rebound and launched a 3-pointer from the left baseline that rattled out as the horn sounded.

KWU trailed 45-36 at halftime after shooting 38.7 percent (12 of 31) the first half. The Coyotes shot 56.8 percent in the second half and overtime (21 of 37) by opting to attack the rim more often.

"I think sometimes we become too much of a finesse team and we bail teams out," Monson said. "We want to hit jump shots and 3-pointers. If you want to win the down the stretch and, in the postseason, you've got to get to the basket and you've got to be tough. Wednesday night when we were playing Saint Mary, we weren't very physically tough."

Murdock managed to stay in the game after picking up his fourth foul with 11:13 remaining. He went to the bench but returned four minutes later, scored 21 points and defended Clark the rest of the way without fouling out. Clark was 16 of 29 from the field including 2 of 7 from beyond the 3-point line.

"It's a big deal for him to play those last seven-and-a-half minutes guarding Cevin Clark and finding ways to make plays," Monson said.

"It was kind of tough especially with a scorer like that on their team. Cevin really knows how to score," Murdock said. "But that's the game and as long as I can play it's all good."

Murdock was 10 of 20 from the field and 15 of 17 at the line to go along with five assists and three steals. Littlejohn was 10 of 17 shooting (2 of 3 from long distance) and 9 of 11 at the foul line.

Littlejohn, who had 31 points and 13 rebounds in the first game against Southwestern, scored 11 in the first half then scored the first 11 points of the second half. He scored nine consecutive points later in the half as well.

"Me and Alex always tell each other to just be aggressive," Murdock said. "We're at our best when he's being aggressive and when I'm being aggressive that helps even more. They were letting us into the paint and that's where we were getting easy buckets."

The Coyotes committed just eight turnovers and were 26 of 31 at the foul line. Southwestern won the rebounding battle 37-34 but had been outrebounding its opponents by an average of 12 per game.

"This team is mentally tough beyond their years," Monson said. "This team mentally has lost some teammates and had to battle back through things, and they still haven't lost two straight games in a long time. Physically we're not every tough but mentally these guys are warriors."

The Coyotes close out the regular season with three games next week starting with a rescheduled contest against Ottawa at 7 p.m. Monday in Mabee Arena. The Braves (15-10, 10-9 KCAC) defeated Friends 86-73 Saturday in Ottawa.

KWU travels to Hillsboro for a game against Tabor at 8 p.m. Wednesday and finishes with a contest against York at 7 p.m. Saturday in Mabee Arena.

Coyotes rally past No, 9 Southwestern 96-93 in overtime

It took a gallant second-half effort for the Kansas Wesleyan Women's Basketball team to pull away from the Southwestern Moundbuilders for an 89-74 win on Saturday night inside Mabee Arena.

The Moundbuilders, who remain winless on the season challenged the Coyotes throughout the first half, but Wesleyan coach&nbsp;<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/f74df252-f936-4cc9-b8a6-17ec78dabfb3?elinkdata=5288" target="_blank">Ryan Showman</a>&nbsp;made a few halftime adjustments that seemed to work.

"I thought in the first half we did a really great job in our scoring possessions of executing, moving side to side, finding the right shot and then finishing, but we just didn't do it enough," Showman said, applauding his team's first half efforts. 

"I thought that was a big difference for us and when we got back in the locker room, it was like 'hey calm down we're good, let's get back to doing the stuff that makes us really great and we did that."

Also enter players like&nbsp;<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/b4fd5398-5939-44d0-9e4f-a36451d62eb2?elinkdata=5288" target="_blank">Jill Stephens</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/ebe1820b-f020-4b81-abf1-3fc7cefa5793?elinkdata=5288" target="_blank">LaMyah Ricks</a>.

Stephens scored 19 of her game-high 20, and Ricks netted 16 of her 18 points in the second 20 minutes, the duo combining for 17 of KWU's 25 in the third and 18 of 26 in the fourth.

"It also helps when&nbsp;<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/fb6212ca-e16e-4142-ac6d-e5c7af07d673?elinkdata=5288" target="_blank">LaMyah Ricks</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/2b6af613-3625-4842-8b50-c8d979570e5f?elinkdata=5288" target="_blank">Jill Stephens</a>&nbsp;knock down six or seven three's in the third quarter. That helped, it really helped loosen us up a little bit and we finally got some stops," Showman said.

He was also quick to credit a resilient Moundbuilder team on its effort.

"Credit Southwestern, they hung with us, they just wouldn't go away. There's still some games left and if someone isn't careful, they're going to get them."

Leading by only three at intermission, 38-35, the Coyotes got a 3 from Stephens to open the third and a free throw by Ricks to push the Coyote lead out to seven at 42-35. After a Southwestern bucket, Stephens hit another triple to push the lead out to eight with 7:59 left.

Southwestern cut to three again at 45-42, but the Coyotes responded right back with a 9-0 run to push the lead out to 54-52 with 5:10 left in the third on another Stephens triple.

Wesleyan led 63-53 after three quarters and pushed the lead out to 18 at 73-55 on a Ricks three, assisted by&nbsp;<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/bc48ed2f-0466-4bbb-9562-1aecbf084da6?elinkdata=5288" target="_blank">Catherine Bowman</a>.

From there, the Coyotes rolled, coming away with the 89-71 win.

Wesleyan's 89 points is the most scored by the team in a regulation game this season, and second best overall only to the 99 points in double overtime in the win over Sterling on January 17.

The Coyotes trailed by six in the first quarter, 15-9, but scored 10 straight points to take a 19-15 lead on&nbsp;<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/b12223e9-435b-4494-b0c4-6f75069f9748?elinkdata=5288" target="_blank">Alexis Dixon's</a>&nbsp;bucket with 1:48 left. KWU led 19-17 after 10 minutes.

A 3-pointer by&nbsp;<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/58266ea8-c446-46d5-8430-c7eb60993e10?elinkdata=5288" target="_blank">Angel Lee</a>&nbsp;pushed Wesleyan's lead out to 34-27 with 4:27 left in the second, but Southwestern got it back within a point at 36-35 on the heels of an 8-2 run. Free throws by Ricks sent the Coyotes into the half up 38-35.

The 20 from Stephens led all scorers as KWU had four in double figures as Ricks had 18, Dixon 12 and Lee 11 as KWU was 29 of 70 shooting for 41.4 percent for the game, but shot 50 percent in the second half.

Ricks led the Coyotes with nine rebounds. The Coyotes handed out 21 assists in the game, against just eight turnovers.

Coyotes pull away from pesky Southwestern in second half for 89-74 win

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — Hunter Dickinson had 20 points and 16 rebounds, and No. 6 Kansas rallied to beat No. 25 Oklahoma 67-57 on Saturday.

Dickinson, a 7-foot-2 center, had 24 points and 14 rebounds in the first matchup between the teams —&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/oklahoma-kansas-big-12-66cd35ec58e7a40736e59c87f26f8a12">a 78-66 win at home on Jan. 13</a>.

Johnny Furphy had 15 points, nine rebounds and three steals for the Jayhawks (20-6, 8-5 Big 12). Kevin McCullar, the leading scorer in the Big 12, returned after missing the previous two games with a knee injury, including a&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/kansas-texas-tech-basketball-score-44de925dfc8f30e91372e7d06feb93e5">79-50 loss to Texas Tech</a>. He finished with 10 points and eight rebounds.

Kansas now has won the last seven meetings with Oklahoma.

Jalon Moore had 17 points and Javian McCollum added 15 for the Sooners (18-8, 6-7).

Oklahoma was short-handed — John Hugley IV, a 6-foot-10, 275-pound forward/center, was out with a knee injury, while Rivaldo Soares, a 6-6 guard, was out with a left ankle injury.

Kansas trailed for much of the game but took a 49-46 lead on a 3-pointer by McCullar with about nine minutes remaining. The Jayhawks pushed their lead to 60-50 on a layup by Dajuan Harris and controlled the game from there.

The crowd was energetic from the start. Though the home fans were loud, a significant group of Kansas fans made the trip and were heard from when the Jayhawks made a big play.

A 3-pointer by McCollum gave Oklahoma a 23-16 lead in the first half, and another 3 by McCollum put the Sooners up 28-18. Oklahoma pushed the lead to 11 late in the half. Kansas surged, but Oklahoma still led 34-29 at halftime behind 13 points from Moore.

Oklahoma made just 4 of 22 field goals, including 1 of 11 3-pointers, in the second half.

Kansas: The Jayhawks needed this one after the embarrassing loss to Texas Tech. They locked the Sooners down and outrebounded them 40-29.

Oklahoma: It would have been a great win for the Sooners, but they went cold, as they have at times this season. Their scrappiness and energy couldn't overcome Kansas' talent or their lack of depth.

Sacred Heart traveled to Belleville on Friday night and, although both the games started off reasonably competitively, in the end, the Knights earned their second doubleheader sweep over the Buffs this season.

Sacred Heart Girls 51, Republic County 33

There was no 20-0 opening run to start this game as there was in the first meeting. Republic County scored first and held a couple of early leads, but trailed 10-7 after the opening quarter.

As the game progressed, quarter-by-quarter the Lady Knights added to their lead. Sacred Heart led by eight points at halftime, 10 points after the third quarter, and won the game by a final score of 51-33.

Skylar Douglas led Sacred Heart with 18 points. Katie Weiss added 13 in limited minutes on the floor and Avery Eshleman scored nine.

Sacred Heart is now 12-7 overall and 4-5 in the NCAA league.

Sacred Heart started off with some hot shooting, putting up 28 first quarter points, and never looked back.

Sacred Heart led 80-23 after three quarters en route to an 89-30 victory with a continuously&nbsp;running clock in the fourth quarter.

Six different Sacred Heart players scored double-figures in points. Eleven Knights saw playing time and every one of&nbsp;them scored at least two points.&nbsp;Sacred Heart improves to 16-3 overall and are now 6-3 in the NCAA league.

The Knights will now head home for a boys and girls twinbill and their final regular season games of the season.on Tuesday night. Sacred Heart will host Ellsworth on Senior Night.

Nelson was called for a foul as Kansas State (15-10, 5-7 Big 12) was trying to inbound the ball with 15.6 seconds left. That allowed the Wildcats to tie the game on two Cam Carter free throws. Nelson redeemed himself with a heavily contested shot and the Wildcats' length-of-the-court heave bounced off the backboard.

Peavy scored 17 points in the second half for TCU (18-7, 7-5), including 11 in an 20-2 run to take a 10-point lead with seven minutes remaining before the Wildcats worked their way back into the tie on Carter's free throws.

Emanuel Miller, TCU's leading scorer this season, didn't have a first-half point but finished with 10.

Tylor Perry scored 18 of his 24 points in the second half to lead the Wildcats, making all 12 of his free throws, 10 in the second half. David N'Guessan added 12 points and Arthur Kaluma 11. Kansas State outshot TCU at 48% but made just 1 of 15 from the arc with the Horned Frogs doubling up Kansas State on the offensive boards 14-7 for 20 second-chance points.

The Wildcats finished the first half on a 12-5 run for a 28-24 lead.

Teams combined for 59 free throws. TCU was 21 of 30 and Kansas State 25 of 29.

A five-year Major League veteran, Schreiber (SHRY-ber) was named Boston’s Fireman Award winner in 2022, which honors the club’s top relief pitcher as voted on by the Boston Chapter of the BBWAA. He set career highs in appearances (64), wins (4), saves (8), innings (65.0), strikeouts (74) and holds (22) that season, which included a 17.1-inning scoreless streak. The Kansas Wesleyan basketball teams will return to Salina on Saturday night in search of big bounce-back wins over the Moundbuilders of Southwestern

WBB: Kansas Wesleyan (13-11, 11-7) vs. SW College (0-23, 0-19)

It has been all KWU of late against Southwestern, the Coyotes winning the last 11 games. They defeated the Moundbuilders 81-68 in the first meeting January 3 in Winfield and have a 24-17 lead in the series since January 2006.

The Moundbuilders entered the week seeking their first victory of the season. They lost to Bethel 81-54 Saturday in North Newton and 85-72 to Oklahoma&nbsp;Wesleyan&nbsp;last Wednesday in Winfield.

Southwestern averages 57 points and allows 79. The Moundbuilders are shooting 32 percent overall, 25.7 percent from long distance, are being outrebounded by 8.1 per game and average 20 turnovers. 

Senior forward Christy Wiebe leads the team in scoring (11.2 points) and rebounding (8.7). Freshman guard Kennedy Ford is next on the scoring list (9.4). Sophomore guard Macey Pond had 18 points in the first game against KWU.

Cevin Clark had 22 points, Mason Thiessen 21, and Jarvin Jennings 19 in the first game against KWU. Southwestern trailed 57-46 at halftime but made it close the second half.

Clark, a senior guard, leads the NAIA in scoring with a 27.1 average while shooting 48.4 percent from the field, 37.4 percent from long distance, and 85.4 percent from the foul line. He scored 19 against OKWU, 29 against Bethel and has tallied 30 or more seven times this season. Junior guard Justin DeMaria averages 12.5 points and junior guard Andrew O'Brien 10.4. Coyotes Back at Mabee to Host Southwestern on KINA

With the regular season winding down, Sacred Heart heads to Belleville on Friday night to face Republic County. 

Despite the struggles throughout the season for both the girl's and boys' teams from Belleville, they both played well at different points of the previous games against Sacred Heart.

Girl's game: Sacred Heart (11-7, 3-5) vs. Republic County (0-18, 0-8)&nbsp;

In the first meeting between the Lady Knights and Lady Buffs, Sacred Heart opened with a 20-0 run as it the game was never close. 

Despite trailing 13-0 after the opening quarter and 28-4 at halftime, Republic County hung with Sacred Heart in the second half outscoring the Knights 22-20.

Katie Weiss led Sacred Heart in scoring that night with 18 points, but she's been dealing with an injury that limited her playing time during the Lady Knights game against Beloit at home last Tuesday. 

Sacred Heart had a total of seven players score points that night, including all five starters with at least four points each.

Tip-off for the girl’s game is set for 6:00 pm from Belleville.

Boy's game: Sacred Heart (15-3, 5-3) vs. Republic County (1-17, 0-8)

In the second half of the doubleheader, Republic County hung with Sacred Heart in the first quarter. The Buffs had the lead three different times, before a late run made the score 19-10 after the opening eight minutes. 

From that point on, though, it was all Knights. Republic County was held to just seven points for the final three quarters and they all came in the third quarter.

Michael Matteucci and Evan Bogart led a total of nine Knights that scored in the game with 14 and 13 points, respectively.

Tip-off for the boy’s game is set for 7:30 pm from Belleville.

Additionally, the Knights and Buffs are in the same substate and could possibly meet for a third matchup depending on how the team records and seeding are finalized.

Sacred Heart Hits the Road for Rematch with Republic County

Tuesday was a great night for the Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs of Bennington, who pulled off the clean sweep of Ell-Saline to defend their home floor and complete season sweeps of both teams.

Girls Game: Bennington 43, Ell-Saline 32

In a close back-and-forth affair, inside play and offensive rebounds would win the day for Bennington, who staved off a late comeback bid from Ell-Saline.

With this result, the Lady Bulldogs move to 11-6 overall while Ell-Saline falls to 7-9.

The Lady Cardinals struck first in this game, getting out on an early 4-0 run, but by the end of the first quarter, Bennington was in control with a 10-6 lead.

That advantage would hold into halftime, but out of the break, Ell-Saline ramped up the pressure, attacking the basket and getting to the free throw line, where they were able to level the score at 31 all going into the fourth.

Bennington pulled ahead late thanks to some clutch free-throw shooting down the stretch, and survived a chaotic sequence late to pick up their second win over Ell-Saline on the year.

The Lady Bulldogs were led in scoring by Rori Miles (14), while Ell-Saline was anchored by Brin Hecker (13).

Boys Game: Bennington 48, Ell-Saline 41

On the boy’s side, this game had the makings of a shootout early but as both teams tightened the screws the Bulldogs were able to pull away and hold off the Cardinals late.

With this win, their second of the year over the now 8th-ranked Cardinals, Bennington moves to 14-3 while Ell-Saline falls to 13-3.

The Cardinals did a commendable job on all-state center Eli Lawson, denying him early touches and forcing Bennington to settle for jumpers and attack the basket without utilizing their big down low.

Despite getting just four first-half points from Lawson, the Bulldogs proved up to the task, with five different players scoring by halftime where they led 25-20.

The second half saw more of the same, but Ell-Saline found a spark offensively in the fourth quarter when Brogan Rowley knocked down back-to-back threes to trim the Bennington advantage down to three.

From there however, the Bulldogs were able to melt the clock and pull away at the free throw line, holding on for a 48-41 victory.

Bennington was led in scoring by Talan Pickering (16) and Eli Lawson (11) who did most of his damage in the second half.&nbsp;

Despite the loss Ell-Saline got excellent performances out of Brogan Rowley (18) and Kas Kramer (12).

The Lady Trojan defense came to play from the jump, holding Ellsworth to just four first-quarter points and using that early lead to pull away in a comfortable double-digit win.

This is the fourth-straight victory for Southeast, who moves to 14-5 overall and 7-2 in league play while Ellsworth falls to 8-10 and 2-7 respectively.

“We wanted to get the pedal to the metal early and I thought we did a good job of that,” SES head coach Shauna Smith said. “We came out like we needed to and we survived some early lapses.”

Three different Lady Trojans would finish the night in double digits led by Lexi Jacobson (13) Maddie Harris (12) and Aba Pearson (10).

On the other side of things, Southeast held Ellsworth without a single double-digit scorer. The Lady Bearcats were led by Paityn Tenbrink who finished her night with nine points.

Boys Game: Ellsworth 44, SE of Saline 33

On the boy’s side, Southeast again held Ellsworth to under 50 points but couldn’t get the offensive output to match, sputtering until the fourth and final quarter.

It was another big night for Will Cravens, who scored 24 of the Bearcats 44 points, including 14 of their 21 first-half total.

With this result, Ellsworth moves to 16-2 overall and 7-2 in league play while the Trojans fall to 10-9 and 3-6.

“We were good enough again defensively that this should have been a one-possession game against a team like this. Will is a darn good basketball player but I thought we would be a little better offensively and we just weren’t.”

The Trojans had just four players score, led once again by Connor Caselman (11) and Gannon Jacobson (10), with just 12 points from the rest of the team.

Both Southeast squads will close out their regular seasons next Thursday when they travel to Republic County.

Southeast Splits Senior Night Set With Ellsworth

Sacred Heart hosted Beloit on Tuesday night and, although both the boys and girls were in close games, the Knights were swept by the Trojans for the second time this season.

In the opener of the doubleheader, the Lady Knights fell behind 5-0 and 7-2 in the first quarter, but came back to tie the game at 7-7. Aside&nbsp;from that deadlocked score, Beloit led the entire game.

The Lady Trojans led 9-7 heading into the second quarter. Beloit runs of 7-0 and 6-0 sandwiched the lone two points for the Lady Knights in the period to make the Sacred Heart deficit 20-9 at halftime.&nbsp;
